Additionally, the band is gearing up for a run of sold-out European and U.K. tour dates following their sold-out, 21-date headline Imaginal Mystery Tour last month in North America—see full tour routing below and get tickets HERE.

Magdalena Bay is the Los Angeles by way of Miami duo consisting of Mica Tenenbaum (vocals, producer, songwriter) and Matthew Lewin (producer, songwriter). The two first met at an after-school music program in Miami where they grew up, bonding over shared musical influences and eventually starting a prog rock band Tabula Rasa. That band broke up, but when Tenenbaum and Lewin crossed paths again in college, they reconnected with the goal of making something closer to pop music that blends retro and futuristic elements under the moniker Magdalena Bay. They released a series of EPs leading up to their critically acclaimed debut album, Mercurial World, in 2021 and went on to sell out their first headlining tour, play numerous festivals around the world—including Coachella in 2023, tour with Charli xcx, Caroline Polachek, Flume and collaborate with Lil Yachty, JIHYO, Blu DeTiger and more.

Rising Star Maggie Antone Confirms 2025 North American Headline Tour

0

Today, rising vocalist, songwriter and producer Maggie Antone confirms a run of headline dates in early 2025, with support from Eli Winders, Molly Forbes and Kinsley. See full routing below—including stops in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Antone’s hometown of Richmond and more—and get tickets beginning this Friday at 10A.M. local time HERE.

Additionally, Antone will make her debut at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry on December 13 alongside other rising country artists—get tickets HERE. The performance at the historic venue closes out a nonstop year, which saw Antone release her debut album, Rhinestoned, tour with 49 Winchester, Ella Langley, Trampled by Turtles and Kat Hasty, play shows with Brent Cobb, Ian Munsick, Marty Stuart and The Red Clay Strays and perform at festivals including Bonnaroo, Bourbon & Beyond and Born & Raised.

Antone’s critically acclaimed debut album, Rhinestoned, was released in August via her own label Love Big in partnership with Thirty Tigers—get it HERE. Named one of the best albums of 2024 by Rough Trade, Rhinestoned features singles “Everyone But You”—praised by Holler as a “tender and sweetly shy ballad”—“Suburban Outlaw,” title track “Rhinestoned,” “Johnny Moonshine” and a solo version of “I Don’t Wanna Hear About It,” which was previously released as a duet with Brendan Walter.

Antone’s playful humor, distinctly raspy drawl and undeniable charisma land the initial punches on Rhinestoned. A closer listen reveals the vocalist, songwriter and producer’s overarching desire to heal her heart by opening up and extending a helping hand to anyone who wants to do the same. It’s Antone’s ability to contrast her raucousness with a disarming vulnerability that makes Rhinestoned the honest affirmation of life’s ups and downs she hoped it would be. “No matter how big or small it is,” Antone says, “when you’ve gone through something and you hurt, it matters.”

Rhinestoned was co-produced by Antone alongside Carrie K. (Noah Kahan, Jessie Murph, Suki Waterhouse), with writing contributions from Trent Dabbs (Ingrid Michaelson, Kacey Musgraves), Aaron Raitiere (Lady Gaga, Ashley McBryde), Jillian Jacqueline (Keith Urban, Little Big Town) and Antone’s longtime hero Natalie Hemby (The Highwomen, Miranda Lambert).

Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Antone has been hailed as a bold new voice on the rise in alternative country. Her cover of Tyler Childers’ “Lady May” won her instant attention, and Interpretations, a follow up collection of covers including Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” John Prine’s “Spanish Pipe Dream” and more, was released in late 2022 to early acclaim. A songwriter since the age of 16, Antone has made music her full-time job since leaving college in late 2021. She is determined to make music that connects with people and write songs that make audiences feel seen and heard, a quality she deeply admires in the artists that have so inspired her to choose this path.

5 Surprising Facts About Echo & the Bunnymen’s “Porcupine”

When Echo & the Bunnymen released Porcupine on February 4, 1983, the album arrived as a reflection of a band pushing through internal tension, artistic reinvention, and record label doubts. Despite its troubled creation, Porcupine became a pivotal moment for the band, peaking at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and solidifying their reputation as post-punk pioneers. With its iconic cover shot in Iceland and standout singles like “The Cutter” and “The Back of Love,” the album earned gold certification in the UK. Yet, beneath the snow-covered surface lies a treasure trove of little-known stories.

1. The Album Was Rejected Before It Was a Masterpiece

The original version of Porcupine was outright rejected by the band’s label, WEA, for being “too uncommercial.” This initial iteration, devoid of its now-celebrated string arrangements, was deemed too raw and dark. Only after the band rerecorded sections and added Shankar’s haunting string contributions did the label give it the green light. Shankar’s work on tracks like “The Cutter” brought a cinematic layer that ultimately defined the album’s sound.

2. Its Working Title Was The Happy Loss

Before it became Porcupine, the album bore the enigmatic working title The Happy Loss. While the final name reflects the prickly interpersonal dynamics within the band and the record’s introspective themes, the original title hinted at a mix of melancholy and optimism that characterized much of Echo & the Bunnymen’s ethos during this era.

3. Iceland Almost Didn’t Happen

The album’s now-iconic cover and promotional visuals were shot in Iceland, but that decision came at the last minute. Originally planned for Scotland, the lack of snow forced the production team to pivot. In Iceland, the band braved subzero temperatures and treacherous conditions near Gullfoss waterfall. According to Ian McCulloch, one misstep could have sent them plummeting hundreds of feet. The stark, icy landscape perfectly captured the album’s ethereal yet brooding vibe.

4. “The Cutter” Was Inspired by Cat Stevens

During the recording of “The Cutter,” guitarist Will Sergeant suggested that Shankar incorporate the melody from Cat Stevens’ 1967 hit “Matthew and Son.” This subtle nod to the past, combined with Shankar’s distinct string flourishes, created one of the band’s most enduring tracks. It climbed to No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming their first Top 10 hit.

5. The Band Nearly Imploded During Recording

The creation of Porcupine was fraught with tension among the band members. Bassist Les Pattinson grew weary of the music industry, drummer Pete de Freitas diverted his energy to producing other artists, and guitarist Will Sergeant worked on his solo project. Meanwhile, lead singer Ian McCulloch felt immense pressure to prove the band’s worth. Producer Ian Broudie (later of Lightning Seeds fame) managed to corral these disparate energies, steering the band through what could have been their breaking point.

From its turbulent inception to its icy visuals, every layer of Porcupine tells a story of struggle, reinvention, and triumph. It’s no wonder the album resonates as one of Echo & the Bunnymen’s crowning achievements. W

Burton Cummings’ Isolated Vocals For The Guess Who’s “American Woman”

“American Woman,” released in January 1970 by Canadian rock band The Guess Who, became an iconic anthem, reaching number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian RPM chart. Created spontaneously during a live jam session in Southern Ontario, the track’s riff and lyrics were improvised by guitarist Randy Bachman and vocalist Burton Cummings.
