Kenny Chesney Brings Immersive Live Experience to Sphere Las Vegas for 2025 Residency

0

For Kenny Chesney, known for exhaustive live shows that are long on the euphoria that comes from embracing the world and living life completely, it was only a matter of time until he found a new dimension. That moment is 2025, when the songwriter/superstar brings his full-tilt brand of American music to Sphere in Las Vegas.

“I’m always looking for ways to deepen the way No Shoes Nation experiences this music,” Chesney says of his decision to make 2025’s tour a trip to the next-level venue. “Over the years, they have shown me through their own response to these songs how passionate they are about what they mean, how these songs are part of their lives. When people give you that much heart, I want to give them even more.

“When we started talking about all of the possibilities playing Sphere offered, I was all in. Just the idea of 4D technology and the impossibly dialed in sound raises the experience for No Shoes Nation, literally immersing them in music, visuals, sound and being together. To me, this is going to be a whole new way of rocking the fans, and I can’t wait.”

The only country artist to be in Billboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years for the last 15 years, Chesney joins the select cultural icons U2, Dead & Company, Eagles, Phish and Afterlife Presents Anyma to headline the 17,600-seat spherical venue that has redefined the live entertainment experience and employs next-generation technologies. Sphere is known for its 167,000 individual speakers, which can be dialed in to each section with dazzling specificity, and fully immersive visual capabilities that deliver over 171 million pixels across a 160,000 square foot screen wrapping up, over and around the audience, plus 4D technologies including haptic seats.

With technology so advanced, the video content had to be shot on a special camera developed specifically for Sphere’s configuration, these shows will deliver the eight-time Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year as he’s never been seen before. They will also heighten the sensation of the music as those speakers exist behind the 16K x 16K resolution wraparound screen, the world’s highest-resolution LED display.

So powerful was the technology that Chesney said “yes,” without ever attending a concert.

He explains, “When we started talking, I flew to Vegas with my key tour team. We stood on the floor as they ran the film of U2’s show and we were completely consumed. We could see the band, but it was so much more than that. It almost took what they were doing and multiplied it by another dimension.

“Knowing how much intensity our shows generate, my mind started thinking about all the things we could do. Once you see how the show wraps all the way around you, the dreaming begins.”

Kept under wraps for nearly a year, Chesney and his team, along with experts from Sphere Studios’ tech and creative teams, have been working to create what will be a whole new experience in the way his music is experienced. With a vast catalogue of songs to draw from, these landmark shows will deliver a fully immersive and completely unique experience.

GINO VANNELLI Shares Second Single And Video “Stormy River” From Upcoming Release ‘The Life I Got (To My Most Beloved)’ Due Feb. 7

0

Acclaimed singer, songwriter, producer, and performer GINO VANNELLI has revealed a second single, “Stormy River,” from his upcoming album THE LIFE I GOT (TO MY MOST BELOVED) out February 7 via COA Productions with distribution by BFD / The Orchard. Written through a time of personal hardship as his late wife battled cancer, the self-written and self-produced album contains 11 finely etched tracks encompassing the emotional turmoil of losing one’s soulmate and finding the will to carry on.

“Stormy River” is a beautiful-yet-melancholic offering that sees GINO’s signature vocal range cascade across its heart-rending lyrics. It is accompanied by an intimate music video, both of which are out today, January 15. Stream/download “Stormy River” via your preferred digital platform HERE and watch its music video streaming below or via YouTube HERE.

GINO shares, “You will never know just how fragile you are until you are confronted with such a great loss that you begin to stare at the veil between life and death and find yourself trying to look through it, so as to see the one you love, your most beloved, that is gone.”

THE LIFE I GOT (TO MY MOST BELOVED) is GINO’s most intimate release in his expansive 50+ year career with sales exceeding 20 million albums worldwide. Marking his 22nd album overall and his first new studio album since 2019, it was written, arranged, produced, and recorded by GINO and co-producer Peter Fil at Inka Studio in Portland, OR, where GINO resides. Pre-order THE LIFE I GOT (TO MY MOST BELOVED) now on CD, vinyl, and digital download at https://orcd.co/ginovannellithelifeigot.

GINO has remained one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music having sold over 20 million records worldwide. From rock, to jazz, to soul, even classical, he’s left no musical stone unturned. Starting his career in 1973, he was one of the first Caucasian artists to perform on Soul Train and toured with the legendary Stevie Wonder. He gained momentum with his first single, “People Gotta Move” in 1974 and continued to make waves as he releases his hit single, “I Just Wanna Stop” reached #1 in Canada and #4 in US on Billboard’s Hot 100. The single garnered GINO a Grammy Award-nomination for “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” in 1978. In 1979, he won his second Juno Award for “Best Male Vocalist” and continued to churn out hits including the Top 10 singles “Living Inside Myself” (1981) and “Wild Horses” (1987).

GINO caught the attention of Pope John Paul II with his 2001 song “Parole Per Mio Padre” (Words For My Father) and performed it for the Pope himself at the Vatican. He then released Canto (BMG) in 2003 which featured contemporary classical songs sung in English, Italian, Spanish and French.

In 2013, GINO performed for the first time in over 15 years in Los Angeles, CA at the historic Saban Theater which was recorded and released as a CD/DVD compilation, Live In LA, in 2014 and charted at #1 on Amazon. In 2021, GINO released his latest album, More that A Good Thing, which contains a contemporary remake of “The River Must Flow” (from his Gold-certified 1976 album Brother To Brother) featuring Brian Mcknight on backing vocals and Michael Phillips on talk box.

Some things get better with age and GINO is the living embodiment of that sentiment. His standing as a powerful and innovative live performer has seen him continue to perform sold-out shows across the globe whether it’s piano-voice concerts in theaters, singing before symphony orchestras in concert halls, big bands or even pop ensembles. GINO has announced three new shows in 2025, with more to be announced in the following weeks. See him live at one of the below dates:

Midge Ure Brings ‘Band In A Box’ Tour to North America

0

Midge Ure is gearing up to make a highly anticipated return to North America with his innovative ‘Band In A Box’ tour, kicking off at the renowned Cruel World Fest in Pasadena, California, on May 17. Known for his groundbreaking work with Ultravox, Visage, and his celebrated solo career, Ure continues to captivate audiences with his ability to blend iconic hits with modern production techniques. This tour promises an electrifying mix of fan-favorites, performed with his long-time collaborator Charlie Round Turner in an intimate yet powerful format that showcases their mastery of guitars, synths, loops, and samples.

“This year sees the continuation of the sell out UK ‘Catalog Tour’ taking me into Belgium, Holland, Germany and Scandinavia with various festivals in South Africa and Dubai so I’m far from resting on my laurels.

“I’m nervous and excited about bringing my Band in a Box set up back into the US and Canada, especially forward to performing at the Cruel World Festival in Pasadena. A few friends and contemporaries have played there before and tell me great things. A great chance for listeners of Kroq and 91x from the old days to hear some of the songs those cutting edge stations used to play.”

Ure also recently released a live album Midge Ure Royal Albert Hall 04.10.23. The gig took place on his seventieth birthday in October of 2023, a one-night only concert at the iconic venue celebrating his entire catalogue including playing Ultravox’s Vienna album in full. Joined by his long-time Band Electronica and special guests, cellist Caroline Dale (London Metropolitan Orchestra, Peter Gabriel, David Gilmour, Sinead O’Connor), and composer Ty Unwin who worked with Midge on his 2017 Orchestrated album.

Midge talks about the recording: “This album was never meant to happen. The restrictions involved when playing a prestigious venue like the Royal Albert Hall were so great that recording audio or video was out of the question, or so I thought. Modern mixing desks have the capability to multitrack record these days so we tend to record most shows, so finding out we had a recording of that magical evening was a relief. A deal was struck with the venue and this is the result. A little moment captured forever.”

Midge Ure on playing the 2025 Cruel Fest Line-Up. “Having seen most of my musician friends play Cruel World I was feeling a little ‘left out’ but with the success of my ‘Band in a Box Tour’ of North America last year I felt this was the right performance format and the perfect time to step up and play some of those Ultravox, Visage and solo tunes.” He adds “‘Band in a box’ is me and long time keyboard sidekick Charlie Round Turner jumping between guitars and synths, loops and samples to bring the audience the sound and feel those classic tunes deserve.”

Midge Ure is still hosting his Backstage Lockdown Club giving fans exclusive access to a series of intimate, musical events on a monthly subscription basis.

Tour Dates
May 17 – Pasadena, CA – Cruel World Fest
May 18 – San Francisco, CA – The Chapel
May 19 – Denver , CO – Oriental Theater
May 21 – Pawling, NY – Daryl’s House
May 22 New York, NY – Sony Hall

Elmore James’ Hits & Rarities: A Definitive Collection of Slide Guitar Blues Mastery To Be Released In 2025

0

Without Elmore James, the slashing sound of electric blues slide guitar would have been very different indeed. The Richland, Mississippi native played an immeasurable role in defining the modern concept of applying a bottleneck across the strings of a guitar, and his tortured vocal cries and wails were every bit the thoroughly thrilling equal of his sizzling fretwork. Sunset Blvd.’s Hits & Rarities offers a definitive look at the legendary James’ later career, offering 36 classic songs from his last great blast of recording for Harlem producer Bobby Robinson in Chicago, New York and New Orleans. It’s available in two-CD and two-LP configurations.

Spanning 1959-1963, the set offers a magnificent overview of Elmore’s releases on the Fire and Enjoy labels. Its searing contents offer superlative testimony as to why James is considered one of the greatest slide guitarists in blues history. The collection’s doom-laden opening track “The Sky Is Crying,” cut with Elmore and his trusty Windy City band, the Broomdusters, revived his career when it became a major R&B hit in 1960. This deeply moving version of his immortal “It Hurts Me Too” dented those same charts posthumously for the slide wizard in 1965.

James revisited several of his other classics for Robinson as well; “Standing At The Crossroads,” “I Believe,” “Talk To Me Baby,” and “Twelve Year Old Boy” hit at least as hard as his previous waxings of the songs. Of the fresh originals, “One Way Out” (cut shortly before Sonny Boy Williamson #2 waxed his better-known version) and a Crescent City-cut “Shake Your Moneymaker” are blistering houserockers, while the stunning “Something Inside Me” reigns as one of the most agonizing downbeat blues in the proud history of the idiom. “Bobby’s Rock” and “Pickin’ The Blues” compellingly spotlight Elmore’s singular prowess on his axe.

James gained plenty of experience as a working bluesman long before he ever set foot in a recording studio. He rambled with revered Delta bluesman Robert Johnson and gigged with the second Sonny Boy (Rice Miller) prior to making his belated debut on shellac with his first version of “Dust My Broom” for Lillian McMurry’s Jackson, Miss.-based Trumpet label. It pierced the R&B Top Ten during the spring of 1952.

Instead of encoring for Trumpet, James hightailed it up to Chicago, where he formed the Broomdusters and recorded “I Believe,” his next smash on Modern Records’ Meteor imprint in 1953. Elmore made more splendid blues sides for Modern’s Flair logo as well as the parent label, but scored no more hits there or on Mel London’s Chicago-based Chief label in ’57 (Mel licensed them to Vee-Jay Records for national consumption). It took the recordings on this compilation to restore James to national prominence, although he didn’t really have much time to benefit from their release.

Elmore died unexpectedly of a heart attack in May of 1963 at age 45, providing an unfortunate sudden end to the slide guitar king’s amazing career. He left these seminal recordings behind to influence and educate future generations of blues and blues-rock guitar slingers that would follow in his outsized footsteps. Whether on CD or LP, the 36 titles on Elmore James’ Hits & Rarities will always rank with the greatest postwar blues recordings of all.

The stacked billing expands with the darker sonics of forward thinking producer Liquid Stranger, the return of legendary house act Claude VonStroke, trip-hop pioneer Tipper, UK drum & bass flag bearers Chase & Status, and the larger than life DJ Diesel aka Shaquille O’Neal.

House and techno enthusiasts can look forward to performances from in demand collaborator Wax Motif, Dutch sensation Mau P, techno powerhouse Eli Brown, esteemed house production duo SIDEPIECE, piano-house icon LP Giobbi, techno new school selector Layton Giordani, and fast riser Max Styler.

Hard hitting sonics will also prevail with acts like rock-influenced dance pioneers Sullivan King B2B Kayzo, meteoric electronic acts Levity and Tape B who will play individual sets in addition to a B2B, drum & bass producer Reaper, and rising Toronto bass DJ and producer Canabliss among the phase one slate.

“We’re thrilled to bring you our most diverse lineup yet – featuring top current acts, emerging talent, throwback classics, and fresh genres for curious explorers. With “Flavors” across four main stages and smaller experiences, we encourage wandering to discover something new. A big thank you for all the awesome ideas we got from our DJ survey participants – you’re partners in shaping the future of Elements Festival!”, says Elements Co-Founder Timothy Monkiewicz.

Elements Festival’s four main stages embody the natural forces it celebrates. The Fire stage crackles with high-energy performances for thrill seekers, while Earth transforms into a surreal dreamscape of glowing trees, cosmic mushrooms, and floating jellyfish. Air serves as a hidden sanctuary of sound nestled deep within the woods, while Water becomes a sunlit playground with acrobats, playful characters, and festivalgoers are encouraged to embrace swimwear and dive into an immersive 360° stage experience.

Elements has evolved into a standout multi-day camping festival, thriving at its location of Long Pond set in the woodlands near the racetrack featuring an on-site solar farm to drive sustainability initiatives. Fans can explore art cars reminiscent of Burning Man and rows of guest-created theme camps known as Vibe Villages amidst the grounds, large-scale art installations, interactive performances, and 3D video projection mapping, alongside a Health & Wellness lineup offering yoga, sound baths, aromatherapy, dance, comedy, and multidisciplinary workshops.

Elements Co-Founder Brett Herman adds, “At Elements you’re living on a different planet for 3-4 days. There’s so much to experience beyond the music, there’s always something happening in the Bizarre, Fun Factory, Plaza, Wellnest, and countless other places in the festival grounds… Just moving from place to place you’re guaranteed to strike sparks, start a side quest, and find like-minded vibes.”

One of the most unique things about Elements is its participatory culture. From fans hosting interactive camps in the Vibe Villages, to curating pop-up performances along the paths and creating surprise happenings in the woods, the festival invites, embraces, and supports its festival family that aspire to BE the Elements.

Another cornerstone of Elements’ community spirit is the Art of Change program, designed to uplift marginalized voices. In 2024, the program focused on environmental change. Applications for the 2025 Art of Change program will open closer to the event, while submissions for Vibe Villages, artists, and performers are now live.

Tier Three GA and VIP passes are available through the official Elements Festival website as well as an all-new option for 2025, dubbed the “Entourage Pass”, which grants backstage access & more. Attendees can choose from diverse accommodations, including car camping, glamping, nearby hotels, and ready-to-go RVs or tents. Shuttle passes, providing transport from major Northeast cities, are also on offer for those preferring not to drive.

BRIT FLOYD—”widely recognized as the world’s premiere Pink Floyd experience” (Rolling Stone)—returns to the stage in 2025 with their biggest and most spectacular production to date, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Pink Floyd’s iconic album Wish You Were Here complete with the group’s award-winning laser and light show, massive circular screen, inflatables, and theatrics. In addition, BRIT FLOYD this summer will collaborate and perform on a massive double-bill run of five shows throughout iconic venues in California and Nevada with musician/producer-icon Alan Parsons.

Presented by Palladium Entertainment, this year’s celebration of the Wish You Were Here album will kick off with dates in the UK beginning February 19 in Manchester, UK and ending March 9 at Symphony Hall in Birmingham ahead of the group’s U.S. shows. The tour will honor the iconic album (released in 1975) which features four of Pink Floyd’s most beloved songs—“Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” “Welcome to the Machine,” “Have A Cigar” and “Wish You Were Here”—and is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time.

Every night, in a two-and-a-half-hour-plus show, BRIT FLOYD will perform the music of Wish You Were Here as well as classic tracks from Pink Floyd’s magnificent catalog of albums, including Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Animals, The Division Bell, Meddle, and more.

The assembled band of musicians that audiences have come to love and respect worldwide over the years will take to the stage to perform note-for-note renditions of all the classic Pink Floyd tracks. The ensemble includes BRIT FLOYD’s long-time guitarist/lead vocalist and musical director Damian Darlington, bassist/lead vocalist Ian Cattell, and Canadian Idol Winner vocalist Eva Avila, along with the other expert musicians who have joined the ranks of BRIT FLOYD over the last decade.

In the past, touring musicians from both Pink Floyd and Roger Waters’ touring band have shared the stage with BRIT FLOYD in the U.S., UK, and Europe. They include Pink Floyd bassist/vocalist Guy Pratt, backing vocalists Durga McBroom, and Roberta Freeman; Pink Floyd saxophonist Scott Page; Hammond organist/keyboardist Harry Waters (who will join BRIT FLOYD for 30 shows: 10 in the UK and 20 in the U.S.); and drummer Graham Broad, who are both from Roger Waters touring band. Expect to see some of these artists making guest appearances on the 2025 dates.

Having performed over 1,200 shows since their launch in Liverpool, England in January 2011, BRIT FLOYD have circled the world, sold out tours across Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and the Middle East. They have performed concerts at some of the world’s greatest venues, including London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall, the awe-inspiring Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado; the historic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles; and ‘The Showplace of the Nation,’ NYC’s Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan. The BRIT FLOYD show has become a phenomenon, widely regarded by many as the world’s greatest rock tribute experience.

Country Music Hall of Famers Brooks & Dunn, Actor Graham Greene Among Those to be Inducted at 64th Annual Western Heritage Awards

0

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is proud to name Country Music Hall of Famers Brooks & Dunn and actor Graham Greene among the distinguished panel of recipients and inductees to be honored during the 64th annual Western Heritage Awards ceremony on April 12, 2025, at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The Presenting Sponsor of this year’s ceremony is the National Western Stock Show’s “Honoring the Legacy” Campaign.

The Western Heritage Awards serve as the induction ceremony for the Museum’s Hall of Great Westerners and Hall of Great Western Performers, as well as the presentation ceremony for the Lifetime Achievement Award and Chester A. Reynolds Award, named after the Museum’s founder.

“We are thrilled to announce the exceptional inductees for this year’s Western Heritage Awards,” said Pat Fitzgerald, President and CEO of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. “Each individual being inducted embodies the spirit of the American West in their own unique way, contributing to its rich tapestry of culture and history. We’re excited to celebrate and honor their vast talent and contributions for generations to come.”

Every year, the Western Heritage Awards also honor individuals who have made significant contributions to Western heritage through creative works in literature, music, television and film. More announcements will come next month that highlight the individuals who will be honored for their creative achievements from 2024. That announcement will include ticketing information for seminars and events that will be open to the public during the Western Heritage Awards weekend celebration.

Both honorees and inductees receive a Wrangler, a bronze sculpture of a cowboy on horseback created by the late Oklahoma artist and 2017 Hall of Great Westerners inductee Harold T. Holden.

Louise S. O’Connor
Dr. Baxter Black (1945-2022)

About Louise S. O’Connor

Louise S. O’Connor is a rancher, photographer and author. She has spent the last 40 years interviewing, photographing and writing about the people of the ranching culture of her native Texas Coastal Bend. She has created a vast and rich archive of stories as told by hundreds of men and women, representing a wide variety of cultural and ethnic origins. Louise’s background as a member of a seventh-generation Texas ranching family instilled a deep understanding of the region’s peoples and history in which ranching dates back to the early 1720’s.

O’Connor began photographing and roaming ranches as a child. She studied photography under Ansel Adams, Brett Weston and Al Weber at Friends of Photography in Carmel, California. Her work has been seen at esteemed locations across the country including the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City and The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.

Her books and projects capture the vibrant storytelling of the people of a unique ranching culture. She presents their lives and dreams; especially the way they reflect upon their profound understanding of nature and the land they lived and worked on, and the animals they lived among.

O’Connor’s published works, such as “Cryin’ For Daylight,” “Tales From the San’tone River Bottom,” “Wild Rose,” “Milam’s Revelation Cookbook,” and “The History of Marfa and Presidio County,” co-written with Dr. Cecilia Thompson, reflect her deep respect and admiration for the history and the people that were engaged in all aspects of a working ranch before modernization and radical change happened after World War II.

She has been awarded an Honorary Master of Art degree from Bath University in England for her work in the preservation of Texas History. O’Connor’s works have been published by Texas A&M University Press, and her photographic exhibition of “Cryin’ For Daylight” is a permanent part of the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University.

About Dr. Baxter Black (1945-2022)

Dr. Baxter Black, large animal veterinarian, cowboy poet, and philosopher, grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico immersed in agriculture and the ranching way of life. His decision to become a veterinarian occurred when he realized that no matter what came about, he could always ‘fix your cow.’

After graduating from vet school at Colorado State University in 1969, he ended up in Idaho working as the company vet for J.R. Simplot Company. During this time, driving around and talking to old cowboys, his storytelling style started to take root. Dr. Black began writing poetry based on the cowboys’ tales. With no TVs and few radios, he would take his guitar and recite the stories back to the cowboys. They loved it.

In 1980, while working as a vet for a pharmaceutical company in Denver, Dr. Black’s reputation as an entertainer began to spread. Soon, the constant requests for his brand of poignant, insightful and hilarious storytelling allowed him, after 20 years as a working vet, to transition from part-time cowboy poet to full-time cowboy entertainer. His audience grew to expect physical performances and onstage antics which always guaranteed a laugh. Dr. Black spoke throughout the U.S., Canada and Australia.

His weekly column, “On the Edge of Common Sense,” was carried by over 130 newspapers and his radio program aired on 150 stations through the years. The author of 30 books, he sold over 2 million copies of his books, CDs and DVDs. He was a guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” multiple times and was a regular commentator on NPR’s “Morning Edition” for 20 years.

Over his 40-year career, Dr. Black wrote about what he knew – cowboys, cowgirls, rodeo, cattle, horses and ranch life. He wrote with a flair that still captures the imagination of everyone who reads his stories today, regardless of whether they work on a ranch or live in an urban setting. More importantly to Dr. Black was that no one was a stranger, whether they sat next to him on the airplane for thirty minutes or had known him for decades. Every person he met was a friend.

Graham Greene
Anthony Quinn (1915-2001)

About Graham Greene

Graham Greene was born in 1952 on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario, Canada. When he was old enough, he left school and headed out into the world. Over the years he was a construction worker, security guard, bouncer, carpet layer, bricklayer and laborer. In the early 1970s, he studied civil technology and became a draughtsman. He then studied welding and became an iron worker.

Over the years he was involved in the music industry as a roadie, eventually working as a lighting technician, then an audio engineer, while also working part-time in acting. He switched back and forth between music and acting for a time, eventually landing a TV role in 1979. He then became executive director for a Native arts organization and started acting full-time. He worked in theater and film in England, Norway and South America.

Greene has won many theater and film awards, including a Dora Mavor Moore Award for his work in Toronto theater, three Gemini Awards – including a lifetime achievement award – given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, an Oscar nomination, a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame, and a Golden Boot Award. He was named to the Order of Canada, which is Canada’s highest honor, and has been awarded honorary doctorates from several universities and membership in the Masonic Lodge. Today, he continues to gain awards, such as Best Actor at the Tokyo International Film Festival. He still works in several acclaimed television series and films as well as being an ambassador for the Dreamcatcher Foundation.

About Anthony Quinn (1915-2001)

Someone once said, “If I was left on an island, I’d reconstruct the rocks. I have a need to say I was here.” And that’s how Anthony Quinn spent his life – leaving his mark on the world. His creative mind and spirit continue to move us and enrich our lives through his art and acting.

He was born under the gunfire of the revolution in Chihuahua, Mexico in1915 to a half-Irish father, Frank Quinn, and a Mexican-Indian mother, Manuela Oaxaca, who both marched under the banner of Pancho Villa. Manuela and Frank were separated when she became pregnant with Anthony and was forced to leave the battlefield. When Quinn was only 8 months old, his mother hid him in a coal wagon and escaped to El Paso, Texas. They would not find Frank again until Quinn was almost 3 years old. A second child was born less than a year later, his sister, Stella.

Poverty led them to search for work as fruit pickers in California and they eventually settled in East Los Angeles where Frank worked at Zelig’s Studio, taking care of the animals and training as a cameraman.

Quinn’s interest in art developed early and recognition was quick to follow. At age 9 he began sculpting, and within three years entered a statewide California competition and won it with his plaster bust of Abraham Lincoln. He began drawing sketches of movie stars he would see when his father took him along to the studio. He mailed one sketch to Douglas Fairbanks, and much to his surprise he received a check for $25 in return.

When Quinn was 11, tragedy struck. Frank was killed outside their home in East LA by a passing automobile. Quinn vowed to support his mother, sister and grandmother. He started skipping school and working at odd jobs to help support the family. Before the age of 18, he had worked as a migrant farm worker, newsboy, preacher and taxi driver. He also made $5 a fight as a welterweight boxer.

Quinn entered another contest during his junior year in high school, with an architectural plan for a marketplace, and again he was named a winner. The prize this time was to study and work with the famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, an encounter which was to change Quinn’s life forever. Wright taught him that the average man does not know how to live, and that it is the job of the architect to build – not to the physical size of the man, but to the size of man’s spirit.

Finally, someone had put into words the hunger that Quinn had felt all his life – to live and create to the size of the spirit of man – which became the motto by which he would live. Wright also taught Quinn that a good architect must be able to convince people of how they ought to live, and sent him to acting school to improve his speech. Quinn worked as a janitor to pay for his lessons.

When one actor fell ill, the teacher asked Quinn to take his part in the play. He received wonderful reviews and thus began his career as an actor. When he began to get small parts in plays and films and earn as much as $75 a day, he asked Wright whether he should continue to act or to pursue his career as an architect. Wright told him there was always time to become an architect later.

After more than 60 years of performing on stage, in television and film, with a career that included the creation of truly classic characters in “La Strada,” “Viva Zapata!,” “Lust for Life,” “Requiem for a Heavyweight,” and “Zorba the Greek,” and as recipient of two Academy Awards and six nominations, Quinn will be remembered as the consummate actor who received international acclaim and the respect of his peers and the public.

Although he had painted and sculpted since the age of 6, it was not until the 1980’s that Quinn discovered he could have another career as an artist. He had always sculpted small pieces of stone and wood he found while he was working on location in the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East. In that decade he began to enlarge these “maquettes” into full-sized sculptures with the intention of decorating his home. To his surprise, people started asking him where they could buy the artwork. He was given a one-man exhibition at a gallery in Honolulu, Hawaii and sold every piece in the show.

He continued making movies and in his free time on set would forage among the dunes. Between scenes, he would transform the objects, which most people would consider just rocks, stones, and scraps of wood, into works of art. He found beauty in everything he saw.

Besides his achievements in acting, sculpting and painting, Quinn also wrote two autobiographies, “The Original Sin,” published in 1974, and “One Man Tango,” published in 1994. Quinn finished his last film, “Avenging Angelo,” with Sylvester Stallone, in May of 2001. In June of the same year, he died of respiratory failure at the age of 86. He was survived by his sister Estella, his wife Katherine and 12 children.

Warner Glenn

About Warner Glenn

Warner Glenn, a fourth-generation cattle rancher and renowned land and wildlife conservationist, was born and raised on the J Bar A Ranch, located near the Chiricahua/Pedregosa Mountains in Southeast Arizona. Glenn’s family came to that part of the country to homestead in 1896.

Glenn married Wendy Paul in 1960 and together they raised two children, Cody and Kelly. Until her untimely death in 2014, they were strong community leaders, advocates for local causes like the cattle ranching industry and wildlife issues, and innovators in the creation and formation of The Malpai Borderlands Group, a non-profit organization that was founded in their home at the Malpai Ranch. Malpai Borderlands Group is now celebrating its 31st year representing environmentally correct and sustainable cattle ranching, collaborative science and preservation of open spaces and wildlife corridors. Today, Glenn continues to serve as a board member for the Malpai Borderlands Group.

Glenn, his daughter Kelly, and granddaughter Mackenzie continue to own and operate two working cattle ranches and lease a third, with one of these ranches having the Mexican border fence itself as its southern boundary. Glenn’s son, Cody, and Cody’s wife, Mary, are the support team to keep operations going.

In 1996 and again in 2006, Glenn was the first person to photograph two separate Mexican jaguars in the Arizona/New Mexico borderlands. Some environmentalists then pressed federal officials for an initiative to declare parts of Arizona and New Mexico “critical habitat” for jaguars, which would have had a negative impact on the cattle industry.

Glenn, along with many jaguar experts, said such a move was not necessary nor fundamental in the preservation of jaguars in Arizona and New Mexico because the occurrence was rare. He was able to stem the initiative. Today, Glenn continues to be a vocal proponent for both jaguars and landscape conservation on both sides of the border in that region.

Glenn is a community leader, a port in the storm, and a voice of reason who is known for stabilizing situations and encouraging collaboration. He has fundamentally changed the world of conservation and ethical ranching and hunting for the better.

At the age of 89, Glenn conducts all his cattle work on horse or mule back, has two packs of hounds, and with his daughter still trails and catches stock-killing mountain lions.

In 2008, Warner was presented with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Southwest Regional Recovery Champion Award for his leadership in conserving the Malpai Borderlands and protecting the jaguar.

This honor was followed by Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords recognizing Glenn for his dedication to the Southwest in the Congressional Record, and the Arizona Game and Fish Commission presenting Glenn with Environmentalist of the Year.

Glenn has also been inducted into the Willcox Cowboy Hall of Fame in Willcox, Arizona, and the Arizona Outdoor Hall of Fame. In 2016 he was presented the Environmental Stewardship Award by the Cochise County Farm Bureau, and New Mexico Governor’s Conservationist Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.

In all his accomplishments, Glenn has always been a cowboy first! He can rope with the best of them – roping cattle in the brush with ease and even roping a bear once that was killing one of his calves. He has always handled his cattle with respect.

Glenn, with Wendy by his side, ranched through the toughest droughts, the worst economic times, and, for more than 70 years, has raised and maintained a top-notch herd of cattle. Glenn is a modest man who has had a huge impact on his local neighborhood, the youth associated with his family, and the widespread circle of folks who call him a friend. His faith in God has never wavered, and his love of this country, his family and his way of life have never faltered.

Brooks & Dunn

About Brooks & Dunn

Once artists like Brooks & Dunn hit the Country Music Hall of Fame, folks didn’t expect much in the way of new ideas. Thirty-plus years into their career, Brooks & Dunn long ago dialed in their generation-defining sound and style. The best-selling duo of all time, their yin-and-yang, country-rock blend has earned them 20 Number Ones – plenty of material to fill stadium-rocking set lists. And with a Grammy-winning, course-of-history shifting catalog written mostly themselves, they could rest easy knowing without doubt they left a permanent mark on the American songbook.

But Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn have always been the restless type. Released November 15, 2024, their latest album, “Reboot II,” is the sequel to their acclaimed 2019 album “Reboot” and follows the same format of giving today’s most engaging artists, in and out of country music, the near-impossible task of reimagining an iconic Brooks & Dunn song; except this time, the artists were given maximum creative freedom.

With styles ranging from progressive country and classic bluegrass to heavy metal, orchestral pop, and beyond, the very fabric of songs most country fans know by heart has been transformed. Whether it was ‘90s grunge, ‘70s style studio rock, or swampy soul, the duo encouraged each artist to throw out the playbook.

The new album’s 18 tracks include reinterpreted hits such as “Neon Moon,” “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” and “Believe,” resulting in a dynamic and eclectic collection that spans genres and generations.

Brooks & Dunn continue to break records, tallying the longest-running country music residency in Las Vegas, and crisscrossing North America year after year on their sold-out tours. They recently announced 2025 dates for the first leg of their “Neon Moon” tour. For a full list of upcoming tour dates and to purchase tickets, visit brooks-dunn.com/.
