Bon Jovi’s ‘Slippery When Wet’ Expanded For Deluxe Reissue

0

Bon Jovi will unveil their Diamond-certified best-selling third full-length album, Slippery When Wet, on vinyl and Digital Deluxe on February 28, 2025. The original record will be available in various configurations through the artist store, including an exclusive liquid-filled vinyl disc limited to 1300 copies worldwide, and a picture disc limited to 1500 copies. It also arrives on cassette limited to 500 copies. Additionally Slippery When Wet will be available as a Deluxe Edition with seven bonus tracks, on 2CD and digitally at all streamers.

The Deluxe Edition includes a long sought-after acoustic version of “Wanted Dead Or Alive” as well as four live recordings from the band’s historic 1987 Slippery When Wet Tour, two of which, including an epic “Let It Rock,” have not been heard before. The Deluxe also boasts exciting, previously unreleased mixes of “Livin’ On A Prayer (Thank You Goodnight Remix),” which was heard briefly in the band’s hit documentary series, and “Raise Your Hands (Extended Obie O’Brien Mix).”

Slippery When Wet hit like a tidal wave upon its initial release on August 18, 1986. The record debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and held the top spot for eight weeks. Not to mention, it emerged as “the top-selling album of 1987,” according to Billboard. It stands out as the band’s highest-selling record, going 12x-platinum. It houses instantly recognizable smashes such as “You Give Love A Bad Name,” “Livin’ On A Prayer,” and “Wanted Dead Or Alive.” Tracks from Slippery When Wet has tallied 9.4 Bilion streams to date. Speaking to the LP’s influence, Guitar World included it among the “Top 20 Hair Metal Albums of the Eighties,” and Rolling Stone named it one of the “50 Greatest Hair Metal Albums of All Time.”

The release of Slippery When Wet kicks off a busy 2025 for BON JOVI. Last year the band released its classic compilation album, Greatest Hits, on 2LP vinyl and achieved a coveted RIAA Diamond for their single “Livin’ on a Prayer,” recognizing sales of 10 Million certified units. This marks the band’s second career milestone following its Diamond status for their Slippery When Wet album. Throughout their illustrious career, BON JOVI has sold over a combined total of 72 Million RIAA certified units to date including the album ‘Crossroads’ (7x Platinum) and the singles “Wanted Dead Or Alive” (6x Platinum), “You Give Love A Bad Name” (5x Platinum) and “It’s My Life” (3x Platinum).

Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter To Host NAMM’s 40th annual TEC Awards

0

Capping a brilliant and successful 2024, legendary Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter is kicking off the new year with a full dance card at the 2025 NAMM Show to be held January 21-25 in Anaheim, California.

On Thursday, January 23, Baxter will serve as host for NAMM’s 40th annual TEC Awards. The virtuoso guitarist, a founding member of Steely Dan who later joined the Doobie Brothers, was inducted into the NAMM TEC Awards Hall of Fame in 2016. Says Baxter, “Having been honored by NAMM in the past, it is indeed a special privilege to host this year’s NAMM TEC Awards.”

This year, Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, record label founder and one half of the rock duo the White Stripes, Jack White will be honored with the TEC Innovation Award. White personally requested that he receive his award from Baxter. “That was very kind of him, and I appreciate it,” Baxter says. “We’ve never met, but I’m most impressed with Jack. He’s fearless and certainly innovative. I know that he once bought one of my signature Epiphone Firebirds, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity for a good musicians’-style hang with him.”

Before the TEC Awards, Baxter will participate in a special seminar titled Good Vibrations: The Science of Sound and Music for Healing, hosted by sound therapist Cimcie Nichols (daughter of Roger Nichols, Steely Dan’s iconic engineer), to discuss how music affects people physically, mentally and emotionally. “There’s a close connection between the physics of frequency and vibration and their ability to positively affect living things,” Baxter explains. “For instance, I’ve seen interesting research using focused frequencies to destroy cancer cells. Music, frequency and vibration are deeply analogous, and I’m really delighted to see Cimcie carrying on Roger’s work.”

The next day, Friday, January 24, at 5pm, Baxter and his ace band – drummer Mark Damian, bassist Hank Horton and keyboardist Freddie Ravel – will be performing on the Roland stage.

In addition, on Saturday, January 25, Baxter will join musician, songwriter, record producer and advocate for music creators Larry Batiste for the seminar The Art and Business of Songwriting, which is also the title of Batiste’s recent book that guides readers through the ins and outs of song structure and music marketing. “Larry is an extremely talented cat and a good friend,” Baxter says. “Along with everything else he does, he’s been the musical director for the TEC Awards ever since I can remember. I’m very flattered that he would ask me to be part of his seminar, and I’m honored to be so active at NAMM this year. I have a tremendous place in my heart for that organization.”

In recent months, Baxter has been highly visible with appearances on multiple media platforms. His extensive and entertaining interview with the popular YouTube host Rick Beato has racked up close to one million views.

“That interview was very enjoyable and a lot of fun for me,” Baxter notes. “Rick is a skilled musician himself, and he does his homework. Reading the comments online has been most gratifying – people seemed to get a lot out of the conversation.” He laughs. “Some of them say things like, ‘I didn’t know Skunk played that solo,’ or ‘That’s my favorite record – he was on that?’ The reactions to the interview have been most gratifying.”

As Steve explains: “It’s always a joy for me to play at Trading Boundaries, a magical intimate place full of beautiful lights and exotic imagery, illuminating the darkest time of year over Christmas and New Year… It’s the perfect location for my acoustic set.”

‘Live Magic At Trading Boundaries’, set for release on Friday, January 17th, 2025, collects various recordings from these shows from over the years, and also features appearances from regular collaborators including brother John Hackett on flute, Roger King on keys, Rob Townsend on flute & sax, & Amanda Lehmann on guitar & vocals. 19. The Journey 00:03:36

Listen to the track ‘Ace Of Wands’ (originally from his debut solo album ‘Voyage Of The Acolyte’) performed live.

Over the course of 19 tracks, Steve explores various facets of his catalogue, including Genesis classics like ‘Blood On The Rooftops’ & ‘Horizons’, stripped down solo material such as ‘Ace Of Wands’ & ‘Hands Of The Priestess’, and magical renditions of his much-acclaimed classical catalogue like ‘Black Light’ & ‘The Journey.’ As a result, this album shows a completely different side to his playing: “Somehow, you can feel the special atmosphere through the sound of the music on this new live album, which is a complete contrast to my live rock shows.”

“I love the delicate dreamlike quality of this show with John and Rob interplaying beautifully on flute and sax, interspersed by surprising moments of power, such as the point when Roger’s keys become the sound of a full blown pipe organ!” The album also features two performances of tracks from Amanda Lehmann’s most recent solo album ‘Innocence and Illusion’, “Amanda’s lovely vocals on her own spellbinding songs also provide a special contrast.”

Steve has recently been reissuing his classical catalogue, and the latest two in the series, ‘Metamorpheus’ & ‘Tribute’ are available now. Both albums have been newly remastered for vinyl, and are available as Gatefold 180g LP’s in both black and limited coloured vinyl editions for the very first time. New digipak CD editions are also available, and they can all be ordered here.

These follow hot on the heels of his critically-acclaimed new studio album ‘The Circus and the Nightwhale’. A rite-of-passage concept album with a young character called Travla at the centre of it, the 13 tracks have an autobiographical angle for the musician who says about his 30th solo release: “I love this album. It says the things I’ve been wanting to say for a very long time.”

Doves Release New Song ‘Cold Dreaming’

0

Doves head into an optimistic New Year of SOLD-OUT UK Tour dates and the countdown to their expansive, sixth studio album with the release of the dramatic, synth-and-strings, psychedelic soul single, Cold Dreaming. Clearing another misted window for listeners to peer through in anticipation of upcoming long-player, Constellations For The Lonely, the single crashes in on a tall wave of recurrent synth riffs, deep beats and sky-reaching soundtrack orchestration.

Inherently adaptive with a history of near constant challenge and change, Cold Dreaming finds Doves hitting rude form in the midst of a new period of flux, seeing Andy and Jez Williams taking on lead vocal duties in the studio as well as on stage. Carried by the avalanche of goodwill, joy and relief of their fans following the release of Jimi Goodwin-fronted single, Renegade, in November, the response to the band’s 2025 touring plans has been equally rapturous. 12 of 16 dates, including two dates at Manchester’s Aviva Studios SOLD OUT within hours.

While this year’s live dates will go ahead without Goodwin, Constellations For The Lonely found the three-piece together in the studio, circling shared ambitions for a new, classic Doves album. Where Renegade’s sense of rainy dystopia reigned, Cold Dreaming finds the band exploiting their deep love for psych-soul’s fast-burning golden era of the late-60s and early-70’s, quoting visionary producers, Charles Stepney and David Axelrod as creative references.

Considering lyrics riven once more with Doves typical sense of poetic longing, Andy Williams says: “‘Cold Dreaming’ is a song about forgiveness. Trying to forgive and move on. As a minimum, these days, resilience is the thing that you need more than ever, certainly as a musician. Perhaps the lyrics do touch a bit on what we’ve been through.”

Andy, Jez and long-term keyboardist, Martin Rebelski briefly hit the road for winter nights in intimate venues during November, performing Doves’ most recognisable singles, deep cuts and new album tracks for fans lucky enough to get tickets. Bringing the set to venues with an average 300-person capacity, the packed shows were the first live dates the band had played since 2019.

Bob Mould Returns With ‘Here We Go Crazy’ And Announces 2025 Tour

Bob Mould is celebrating the new year with the announcement of a long-awaited new studio album. Here We Go Crazy arrives via Granary Music/BMG Records on Friday, March 7. Pre-orders are available now for standard vinyl, limited-edition colored vinyl, limited-edition t-shirts, CD, bundles, and more.

Mould’s 15th solo album and first full-length new album in more than four years, Here We Go Crazy – which follows 2020’s critically acclaimed Blue Hearts – is heralded by today’s premiere of the lead single and title track, “Here We Go Crazy,” available everywhere now. An official music video directed by Gus Black is streaming now via YouTube.

“I’ve been spending time in the Southern California desert over the past few years, and the video was shot there. Chilly wilderness atop a mountain, expansive vistas below the hills, distant places to escape life’s routines,” Mould says, “’Going crazy’ can be many different things. The joy of reckless abandon, the uncertainty of the world’s future, the silence of solitude.”

Produced by Mould at Chicago, IL’s famed Electrical Audio in early 2024 and then finished and mixed at Oakland, CA’s Tiny Telephone with longtime engineer Beau Sorenson, Here We Go Crazy once again features backing by the crack rhythm section of drummer Jon Wurster and bassist Jason Narducy, and together the trio bring a bracing attack to eleven new Bob Mould songs.

“On the surface, this is a group of straightforward guitar pop songs. I’m refining my primary sound and style through simplicity, brevity, and clarity, “Mould says, “Under the hood, there’s a number of contrasting themes. Control and chaos, hypervigilance and helplessness, uncertainly and unconditional love.”

Mould and band (drummer Jon Wurster and bassist Jason Narducy) will mark the arrival of Here We Go Crazy with US headline dates getting underway April 1 at San Diego, CA’s Music Box  and then traveling through mid-May. Highlights include stops at venues including Pioneertown, CA’s Pappy & Harriet’s (April 2), San Francisco, CA’s The Fillmore (April 5), Seattle, WA’s Neptune Theatre (April 7), St. Paul, MN’s Palace Theatre (April 19), Chicago, IL’s Metro (April 25-26), Boston, MA Paradise Rock Club (May 2), New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge (May 3), and Washington, DC’s Black Cat (May 7).
