Denyse LePage, one half of the Montreal disco and Hi-NRG duo Lime, died after suffering a stroke, according to a post from her manager Robb Cooper on her official Facebook group. A family tribute described her passing as sudden, noting she left the day before her birthday celebration. She was a vocalist, songwriter, and composer whose voice helped define one of the most recognizable sounds to come out of the Canadian dance music scene in the early 1980s.
Alongside then-husband Denis LePage, Denyse built Lime into a genuine dance floor institution. Their 1981 debut single “Your Love” hit number 1 on the Billboard Dance chart in the US and went gold, launching a run of records that brought the glossy, high-voltage pulse of Montreal club culture to floors around the world. “Babe We’re Gonna Love Tonight” reached number 6 on the Billboard Dance Chart in 1982, and “Unexpected Lovers” followed in 1985 with another top 10 placement. The duo produced and mixed their music themselves, building their contagious dance-floor sound from a home studio with a creative self-sufficiency that was rare for the era.
Denis LePage, who later became known as Nini Nobless, died in August 2023 at age 74 following a battle with terminal cancer. With Denyse’s passing, both original members of Lime are gone. What remains are the records, still shimmering, still built entirely for movement.
