Billy Joel is opening the vault. Teaming up with Legacy Recordings, the Piano Man has announced Billy Joel: And So It Goes—a monumental, 100-plus-track digital-only anthology arriving alongside the two-part, five-hour documentary chronicling his life and music. Out now, the project mirrors the film’s musical journey and expands it, featuring career-defining hits, deep cuts, live performances, and alternative versions spanning five decades.
The massive release includes eight never-before-heard recordings that illuminate new corners of Joel’s storied career. Among the highlights are “December Theme (December Song)” from the Cold Spring Harbor sessions, “My Life (From The 100th – Live At Madison Square Garden),” and “An Innocent Man (Live In London),” each offering a unique glimpse into his creative evolution.
Fans will also discover new sonic treasures like “Tomorrow Is Today (2025 Mix),” “You’re My Home (Live At Sparks),” “Everybody Has A Dream (Cold Spring Harbor Sessions),” “Vienna (Nuremberg Masterclass),” and “No Man’s Land (The Shelter Island Sessions),” an unreleased early studio version of the River of Dreams favorite. Together, they form one of the most expansive and historically rich retrospectives ever released by a major artist.
Over the next year, Joel’s YouTube channel will become a digital museum of rarities unearthed during the documentary’s creation. New videos include the never-before-seen first live performance of “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant (Live At CW Post),” his earliest televised appearance “Long, Long Time” (from WSIU The Session, February 10, 1972), and unreleased footage of “Ain’t No Crime (Billy Joel Tonight),” “Stiletto (Live At The Summit),” and “Sometimes A Fantasy (Live At The Summit).” The video for “Allentown (Live From Long Island)”—the 2022 mix—will also make its online debut.
Adding to the celebration, Joel’s landmark Greatest Hits Volume I and II is out now to mark its 40th anniversary. For lifelong fans and new listeners alike, And So It Goes is a time capsule of the Piano Man’s unmatched storytelling and musical mastery—proving that five decades later, Billy Joel’s melodies still hit right where they always have: the heart.
