World class cellist Hauser, celebrated for effortlessly transcending boundaries in classical crossover, has released his highly anticipated album, ‘Cinema’, which is out now via Sony Music Masterworks. This sweeping homage to unforgettable film melodies is Hauser’s first solo foray into the genre, offering a more introspective and curated collection that reflects his own cinematic passions. The album was preceded by his soul stirring rendition of “What Was I Made For?,” the Oscar winning hit by Billie Eilish and Finneas from the Barbie Movie. Reimagined as a powerful solo cello piece, the single is paired with a visually striking music video that finds Hauser at his most expressive, channeling the song’s vulnerability and depth through his unmistakable artistry.
‘Cinema’ features 25 tracks recorded with the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Robert Ziegler, spanning decades of cinematic history. The selections highlight both the grandeur and intimacy of film music, ranging from the sweeping drama of “Tara’s Theme” from Gone with the Wind to the contemporary melancholy of the Billie Eilish cover. The album features a powerful lineup of iconic themes, including the “Mission: Impossible” theme, “Music Of The Night” from Phantom of the Opera, and Sam Smith’s Oscar winning song “Writing’s on the Wall” from Spectre. Hauser recently concluded his successful solo North American tour, The Rebel Is Back!, and is now bringing his cinematic performances to Europe this fall. As Hauser explains, “Some of these pieces are hidden jewels. They may not be instantly recognizable to everyone, but I believe they’ll become new favorites once people hear them through the lens of the cello.”
