Lionsgate has opened preorders for a new 4K Ultra HD Steelbook edition of Oliver Stone’s 1991 biopic ‘The Doors’, scheduled for release on February 17, 2026. This edition features the theatrical cut of the film, which Stone now considers the definitive version, presented in 4K with Dolby Vision and English Dolby Atmos audio. The release includes collectible Steelbook art by Akiko Stehrenberger, described as a hallucinogenic tribute to Jim Morrison, and an interactive slipcase design. The film stars Val Kilmer as the mercurial lead singer alongside Meg Ryan, Kyle MacLachlan, Kevin Dillon, and Frank Whaley, chronicling the band’s rise in Los Angeles and Morrison’s eventual decline.
This 4K upgrade introduces several exclusive “Lionsgate Limited Extras,” including a new director’s introduction by Oliver Stone and the featurette “Val, Oliver & Jim: The Making of Morrison.” Additionally, the set features brand-new conversations with Val Kilmer’s children, Jack and Mercedes Kilmer, along with footage never previously released. These new segments are paired with a comprehensive library of legacy special features, such as the documentary ‘The Doors: The Road of Excess’, fourteen deleted scenes, and various featurettes exploring the band’s history in Los Angeles and Morrison’s time in Paris. The two-disc set also includes an audio commentary by Stone and interviews with the original production team.
Available for a suggested retail price of $44.99, with current preorders listed at $34.99, the release is part of Lionsgate’s ongoing commitment to high-quality catalog restorations. The 100GB 4K disc is region-free, while the included Blu-ray is locked to Region A. The package aims to capture the sound and spectacle of the late-1960s rock scene through modern technical specifications. Fans can secure their copies now through the Lionsgate webstore to ensure delivery around the February street date.
