Today, GRAMMY-nominated recording artist mgk releases the official music video for “starman,” an anthemic standout from his blockbuster 2025 album lost americana. The visual directed by Sam Cahill incorporates the massive Statue of Liberty stage set from his ongoing, arena-conquering lost americana tour, as well as footage from the live show.
A fan-favorite both on record and on tour, “starman” captures mgk’s own relatable struggles with fear and escapism by recasting the iconic chorus of Third Eye Blind’s 1997 alternative hit “Semi-Charmed Life” in a modern context. Written, produced, and performed alongside Travis Barker (who drums on the song) and other longtime mgk collaborators and friends SlimXX, BazeXX, Nick Long, and No Love For The Middle Child, the song swirls together new wave glow, pop-punk speed, and explosive rock energy to become an undeniable sing-along. After a brief winter break, the lost americana tour picked back up again over the weekend in Europe and is set to return stateside on May 15 in Wheatland, CA, before wrapping on July 1 in Ridgefield, WA. Tickets and information can be found HERE.
The “starman” video follows the January release of “times of my life,” a sobering look back at lost love recorded with the lost americana crew but dating back to a draft composed during the Tickets to My Downfall sessions. Ahead of the tour, mgk released the Tickets to My Downfall (All Access) anniversary edition, featuring five unreleased cuts. Executive produced by Barker, the additional tracks are a true extension of the groundbreaking LP, offering fans a glimpse into the creative vault and showcasing the same irreverent spirit that fueled mgk’s career evolution.
Upon release, lost americana landed in the Billboard 200 Top 5 and became mgk’s third consecutive No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart. In late November, he teamed up with Jonas Brothers for a fizzy, swoon-worthy remix of the LP’s inescapable hit “cliché.” An enduring cornerstone of lost americana, the song inspired an iconic music video also directed by Cahill complete with choreography by Sean Bankhead (Usher, Tate McRae), as well as the candid, piano-powered rendition, “cliché (sad version).” mgk has recently been revealing sharply designed lyric videos for lost americana’s songs on his Youtube channel.
