Indie orchestral architect Andrew Bird continues the 20th anniversary celebration of ‘The Mysterious Production of Eggs’ with an expanded symphonic tour and a sweeping new box set. The era-defining album, recorded and scrapped three times before release, returns in grand scale, performed in full with leading orchestras across the US and abroad.
The orchestral run includes newly added dates in San Francisco, Cincinnati, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, and Minneapolis. Bird opens with Britten Sinfonia at London’s Barbican Hall, then reimagines Eggs alongside symphonies and philharmonics throughout the year. The album now lives in concert halls with the same restless spirit that shaped it.
A deluxe 20th Anniversary Box Set is available now, featuring 3LPs, previously unheard demos, live takes, alternate versions, and Nu Deco Ensemble arrangements. The collection includes 54 pages of unseen photos, reflective essays by Andrew Bird and Anders Lindall, and new artwork by Jay Ryan. A digital companion release, ‘Borrow or Rob,’ streams now with unreleased tracks “Blood” and “Capital I.”
“I was playing all day and night in a kind of fever,” Bird told The Guardian. “I was 29 and had been feeling like a has-been, but suddenly I felt like an artist.” Two decades later, ‘The Mysterious Production of Eggs’ remains a cornerstone of indie music, its loops, whistles, and poetic architecture still resonating across generations.
