A surreal tale of righteous vengeance gets the full animated treatment from Ecce Shnak. The genre-defying NYC outfit have shared new videos for “Katy’s Wart,” out now, along with a Bandcamp release. It’s a hidden gem originally featured on their 2019 album ‘Joke Oso,’ now reborn as a definitive piece of band lore.
The story arrives in two forms: a three-minute “Animated Music Feelm Version” and an immersive ten-minute “Extended Feelm Version” with a backstory that builds tension around a well-dressed maniac whose cruelty finally triggers a cosmic intervention. Heroic twin sisters fend him off with help from otherworldly agents of chaotic justice, as five purple goddesses are conjured to deliver instant karma. A blistering indictment of bigotry and cruelty, the surreal narrative came to life through the production-direction team of Hollye Bynum and Sam Owens alongside David Roush, with eerie animation crafted by the titans at Titmouse Productions.
Pronounced Eh-kay sh-knock, Ecce Shnak have built a reputation in New York’s experimental scene for high-wire performance, a volatile yet meticulously crafted sound where technical precision meets inspired mayhem. The band is David Roush (composer, bassist, and one of two singers), Bella Komodromos (vocals), Chris Krasnow (guitar), Gannon Ferrell (guitar), and Henry Buchanan-Vaughn (drums). Critics have struggled to box them in, with Big Takeover praising their mix of mathy rock, sub-metal weight, prog-infused punk, pop infectiousness, and classical grace all working in harmony.
The band are joining platinum-selling legends EMF for a series of UK dates, having toured the US west coast together in 2025 alongside Spacehog. Ecce Shnak also feature on EMF’s indie dance track “LGBTQ+ Lover,” made in support of the queer community. “Our precious pals in the legendary dance-pop crew EMF have invited us to be the opening act for 6 joyful days in the UK,” shares David Roush. “So trampuce along with us.”
2025 was a big year for the band, anchored by the spring release of their ‘Shadows Grow Fangs’ EP, recorded and produced by Jeff Lucci, mixed by Nicholas Vernhes (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, The War on Drugs), and mastered by Grammy winner Joe LaPorta (David Bowie, The Weeknd, Foo Fighters). They also dropped the live ‘Backroom Sessions’ EP and two club remixes with German producer Eskei83 and world-famous DJ-producer Madison Mars. “Katy’s Wart” now bridges their catalogue with their future, as they move toward their anticipated full-length ‘Dandy Variances,’ due later this year via Records Man.
