Toronto Rockers DECIDER Prove Their New “Underwriter” Single Is A Sure-Fire Investment

0

Not every act introduces itself to the public by holding up a mirror to their innermost delusions. But Decider aren’t just a pretty fearless bunch: Like any skilled financial analyst, they’re good at weighing the angles. The Toronto-based duo of Eric Wood and Jake Israel have made the canny calculation to sign in to the music scene with their brooding single “Underwriter,” a recorded testament to the mental bargains we strike with ourselves just to keep keeping on.

With the composed solemnity of a grand tragedy, the song confronts us listeners directly, challenging us to acknowledge our most self-salvaging habits:

So you
You level out
Just to hide the pain
You push it down
Go underground
And throw it all away
But you should know
You’re not the same
As you were before

“Underwriter’ is a ritual statement, a plague we all share,” the duo says. “That thing that we tell ourselves that makes it alright, though its effects may be short-lived.”

And what about that enigmatic title?

“We all struggle with the cost of living. Some see that as a financial statement, while others share a voice that persists, a mantra that calms, or a wound that never heals. We may never be perfect, we might have to fight the pain of existence, but the underwriter of your consciousness is forever the judge, jury and executioner of your experience.”

That’s pretty heady stuff, but this pair have the musical goods to back it up. Fellow guitarists Wood and Israel complement each other to create a sound that’s Spartan yet never, well, under-written. Clean, unadorned arpeggios create a solid foundation for Wood to emote his scalpel-sharp lyrics—sentiments made all the more affecting by the gradual insinuation of string-section notes that are drawn out to the point of heartbreak.

The track is a tantalizing sample of Decider’s eponymous debut album, a nine-track manifesto that seamlessly blends elements of rock, alternative and progressive music into a unique sound tailor-made to convey the duo’s particular preoccupations. Hints of iconic artists like Incubus, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters and Big Wreck get swept up in an expansive soundscape that encompasses themes of love, loss and the triumph over adversity. Songs like “Mine to Lose” and “Tempted” – both of which have also been earmarked for single release – share thought-provoking visions of adoration, temptation and the very nature of being human.

Co-produced by Wood and Israel and mastered by the legendary Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel, Decider boasts a polished feel that showcases the duo’s raw talent and undeniable chemistry. In addition to their shared six-string duties, Wood lays down some haunting keyboards and Israel contributes understated yet firm bass guitar. And they aren’t afraid of relying on technology to embellish their efforts either: The album makes judicious use of state-of-the-art digital instruments and the latest remote recording and monitoring software.

The finished product is the culmination of four years of meticulous work, from writing and arranging to recording and mixing. “We’ve literally poured our very essence into this debut,” the group says. “The themes we explore on the album—we’ve lived them. We are living them.”

And they’ve been doing it for a long time. Wood and Israel grew up in the same neighbourhood, knew the same people and even attended the same schools. They just didn’t happen to meet until much later. But their similar musical tastes and love for the “craft of creation” created an instant and lasting bond. Over the years, they’ve been in bands together and cheered each other on when they weren’t.

Now that they’ve found their ultimate configuration and purpose as Decider, they can finally make good on the twin goals they’ve ways harbored: to create music they themselves would like to hear, and to amass a body of work that will stand the test of time. To Wood and Israel, the ultimate aim is to use their music to tell a grand, overarching narrative.

“The notion of a thematically rich and emotionally resonant story that explores the journey through the highs and lows of the human experience—hope, despair, redemption, reverie—really resonated with us. It gave the story we’re telling some substance.”

The next chapter in that story is a trio of music videos Decider have produced for “Underwriter” and the other two singles. For that endeavor, they’ve relied upon Israel’s extensive experience in videography, media arts and graphic design. They’ve even turned to Generative AI to develop the entire sequence in the infinite-zoom music video for “Tempted”. But whether they’re in the studio or the editing bay, don’t worry that technophilia is going to eclipse their interest in spinning a very flesh-and-blood yarn.

“Decider is a choice,” they explain. “A dichotomy of good and evil, the temptations we face, and the love we nurture.” And if you think that looks good on a balance sheet, just listen to how great it sounds.

Calgary Folk Roots Artist Lenny Oka Drives Through The Night To A Hopeful Tomorrow On “Hold Tight”

0

“Hold Tight,” the new single by Calgary, AB-based folk roots artist Lenny Oka is driving, bluesy, and harmonica studded, an adventure through the dark, starry night.

Hey, I wanna hold you tight, midnight blues
Hey, I wanna hold you tight we got nothing to lose
Midnight dreams, midnight blues again
Midnight dreams here we go again

You can almost picture the mist on the windshield, the atmospheric tunes on the lonely-hearts radio, and the vast, wholly enveloping night beyond the cozy confines of Oka’s car. Who knows what tomorrow might bring, but tonight is a universe all its own.

The lyric “I wanna hold you tight” was inspired by a past girlfriend – the one that got away. And the song imparts a sexy sense of urgency, a sense of stealing away to a possibly more promising future.

The sentiment matches Oka’s decision in 2018 to become a songwriter. “I was bored playing cover songs in Calgary and decided to take the leap to become a songwriter,” Oka recalls. “My music embodies the idea that artistic growth often comes from breaking free from self-imposed limitations.”
Lenny Oka embraces collaborations with other musicians and songwriters on this musical journey. He’s an artist/songwriter who strongly believes that breaking some chains and releasing songs allows one to grow. Lenny empowers his groove by playing with excellent musicians, while also inspiring his collaborators. He blends an eclectic mix of sounds and strives to create feel-good vibes that provide comfort and relief like a good cup of coffee.

How to Merge Fortnite Accounts in 2024

0

By Mitch Rice

Fortnite has become one of the most popular video games in the world, with millions of players enjoying the exciting battle royale action across various devices like computers, PlayStations, Xboxes, and Nintendo Switches. As players start playing Fortnite on different platforms, they may end up creating multiple accounts. Luckily, Epic Games, the makers of Fortnite, have provided a way for players to combine or “merge” their Fortnite accounts.

In this detailed guide, we’ll walk you through the simple steps on how to merge your Fortnite accounts, so you can have all your game progress, items, and in-game currency (called V-Bucks) in one easy-to-access place. By the end, you’ll be able to enjoy a smooth and unified Fortnite experience across all your devices.

1. What is Fortnite Account Merging?

Fortnite account merging is a feature that allows players to combine their Fortnite progress, cosmetic items, and V-Bucks (the game’s in-game currency) from multiple accounts into a single, primary account. This is particularly useful for those who have started playing Fortnite on one platform and then expanded their gaming experience to other devices.

By merging your Fortnite accounts, you can ensure that all your hard-earned progress, purchased items, and in-game currency are accessible in one centralized location, making it easier to manage your Fortnite identity and enjoy the game to the fullest.

2. Eligibility and Requirements for Merging Fortnite Accounts

Before you can merge your Fortnite accounts, there are a few important eligibility criteria and requirements that you need to keep in mind:

  1. One of the accounts you want to merge must have been played on either Xbox One or Nintendo Switch prior to September 28, 2018. The other account must have been played on PlayStation 4 during the same time period.
  2. Neither of the accounts you want to merge can be currently banned or disabled.
  3. You will need to have access to the email addresses associated with both of the Fortnite accounts you want to merge.

If your accounts meet these requirements, you’re ready to begin the account merging process.

3. How to Merge Fortnite Accounts

Merging your Fortnite accounts is a straightforward process. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

  1. Visit the Fortnite Account Merge website (https://www.epicgames.com/fortnite/account-merge/en-US/accounts/primary).
  2. Select the “Primary Account” – this is the account you want to keep and continue using after the merger is complete.
  3. Log in to the Primary Account using your credentials.
  4. Choose the “Secondary Account” – this is the account you want to merge with the Primary Account.
  5. Log in to the Secondary Account using its credentials.
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the account merging process.

It’s important to note that the merging process can take up to two weeks to fully complete, so be patient as your Fortnite items, V-Bucks, and other data transfer from the Secondary Account to the Primary Account.

4. What Gets Transferred During a Fortnite Account Merger?

When you merge your Fortnite accounts, the following items will be transferred to your Primary Account:

  • All purchased cosmetic items, such as skins, emotes, and other visual customizations
  • Your total V-Bucks balance (the in-game currency)
  • Your progress and items in the Save the World campaign, including Llamas, Defenders, Heroes, Schematics, Survivors, and more

However, some items will not carry over from the Secondary Account, such as:

  • Your Support-A-Creator status
  • Any Unreal Marketplace items you may have purchased
  • Your progress in the Creative mode, including any islands you’ve created
  • Your Save the World account level and campaign progress

By merging your Fortnite accounts, you can ensure that all your hard-earned progress, purchased items, and in-game currency are accessible in one place, providing a seamless and unified gaming experience across all your devices.

Merging your Fortnite accounts is a valuable feature that allows you to consolidate your progress, cosmetic items, and V-Bucks into a single, primary account. By following the simple steps outlined in this guide, you can easily combine your Fortnite identities and enjoy a hassle-free gaming experience on multiple platforms.

Remember to check the eligibility requirements and be prepared to provide the necessary information to complete the account merging process. With your Fortnite accounts merged, you can focus on the battles ahead and dominate the game across all your devices.

How Background Music Shapes Our World

0

By Mitch Rice

Imagine a bustling restaurant devoid of music. The clatter of cutlery, the murmur of conversations, and the hiss of the espresso machine would create a cacophony. Now, add a gentle jazz melody. Suddenly, the atmosphere transforms, becoming more intimate and inviting. This is the power of background music, a seemingly subtle element that shapes our emotions, behaviours, and overall experience in a variety of settings.

Remember you need to be 18+ to gamble within the UK and please feel free to visit BeGambleAware.org for information on how to gamble safely.

The Science of Sound: How Music Affects Us

Music has a profound impact on the human brain. Upbeat tempos can elevate our mood and heart rate, while slower tempos have a calming effect. Music can also trigger emotional responses, with certain melodies evoking feelings of nostalgia, happiness, or even sadness. This is due to the way music interacts with the limbic system, the part of the brain associated with emotions and memory.

Online Casinos: Setting the Stage with Sound

The online casino industry leverages the power of background music to create a specific atmosphere and influence player behaviour. Up-tempo and exciting music often accompanies online slots real money games, heightening the sense of anticipation with each spin. Conversely, calmer music might be used in table game sections, promoting focus and strategic thinking. Some online casinos even offer features that allow players to customize their background music, catering to individual preferences. While enticing “free spins no deposit” offers and “no deposit bonus” promotions might initially draw players in, it’s the carefully curated soundscapes that keep them engaged and potentially revisit the platform to play their favourite free fruit machines game! Responsible gambling practices are key here, so remember to set limits and prioritize entertainment over chasing wins.

Restaurants: A Symphony of Flavors and Sounds

Background music plays a significant role in the restaurant industry as well. Upbeat tempos can encourage faster dining, increasing table turnover. Conversely, slower and more relaxing music can create a more intimate atmosphere, ideal for longer meals and conversation. Restaurants often tailor their music selection to their target audience and desired ambiance. A trendy bistro might feature upbeat electronic music, while a fine dining establishment might opt for classical melodies. The right background music can enhance the dining experience, leaving a positive impression on customers and potentially influencing their order choices.

Movies: The Soundtrack to Our Emotions

The power of background music is perhaps most evident in the film industry. Movie soundtracks are meticulously crafted to evoke specific emotions and enhance the on-screen narrative. A suspenseful thriller might utilize jarring orchestral pieces to build tension, while a romantic comedy might feature light-hearted pop tunes to create a sense of joy. Background music can even subliminally influence our perception of characters and events. By manipulating our emotions through sound, filmmakers can create a more immersive and impactful viewing experience.

The Art of the Auditory Experience

Background music is more than just a pleasant addition to our surroundings. It’s a powerful tool that subconsciously shapes our experiences in a variety of settings. From online casinos carefully crafting soundtracks to heighten player engagement to restaurants using music to influence dining behaviour, the world around us is filled with silent seducers, influencing our emotions through the power of sound. So, the next time you find yourself captivated by a movie scene, savouring a delicious meal, or spinning the reels on online slots (remember, responsible gambling is key!), take a moment to appreciate the subtle yet significant role background music plays in shaping your experience.

Indigenous Queer Artist Edzi’u Drops New Single “This Love” Ahead of Upcoming EP Tunnel Vision

0

Tahltan and Tlingit Canadian artist Edzi’u unveils her latest musical journey with the ethereal echoes of new wave and rich cultural storytelling. Her new single, “This Love,” leads the way for her upcoming record. The indie pop storyteller’s EP, ‘Tunnel Vision,’ delves into themes of love, heartbreak, and grief across four tracks. Through a deeply sensual and vulnerable ensemble of songs, Edzi’u intertwines a spectrum of human emotions, captivating listeners with her modern 80s pop sound, delicate vocals, and passionate lyricism.

“This Love” is a deeply romantic and poetic lead single, combining emotive lyrics over dark and haunting synth melodies. As she sings of a love that appears to awaken the strongest of emotions – desire and hate – Edzi’u delivers an honest, addicting and otherworldly musicality. Although expressed through lush vocals and light-as-a-feather composition, “This Love” is successful in lighting a fire within anybody who listens to it.

“Sugar” is an appropriately sweet song off of Tunnel Vision as it delivers a story of past lovers with its soft reverb and longful songwriting. This track blends seamlessly into “Not Enough,” a melancholy number that dresses futuristic beats as an 80s pop ballad.

The EP ends with “Ego Death,” a more upbeat number compared to its predecessor as it decorates itself with pulsating electro-pop drenched in reverb drums. Expressing a story of strength and liberation, “Ego Death” tells the story of somebody who is rising above a love that they realize isn’t real.

Following the announcement of Tunnel Vision, which is slated for a summer 2024 release, Edzi’u has several tour dates throughout this summer including Adaka Festival, Jam In Jubilee, Vancouver Pride and Vines Art Society.

Edzi’u is a Tahltan and Tlingit artist based in Vancouver, Canada on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. As she fuses her inspirations of cultural storytelling with ethereal vocals, Edzi’u draws inspiration from her roots and life experience as an indigenous person, delivering a discography and musicality that is deeply poetic and impactful. Her upcoming EP Tunnel Vision is preceded by two full-length studio albums, including Kime Ani (2018) and Potlatch in the Box (2023). Following her sophomore album, Edzi’u made a name for herself as an inimitable force in the Canadian music industry and has unapologetically expressed her two-spirit indigiqueer identity. Not only is Edzi’u a rising pop icon to keep on your radar, but she is also a cultural advocate and spirited storyteller.

Upcoming Edzi’u Tour Dates:
June 28 to July 1, 2024 – Whitehorse – Adaka Festival
July 4th – Abbotsford – Jam In Jubilee
July 26-Aug 4- Vancouver – Vancouver Pride
August 16th – Vancouver – Vines Art Society

Paul Weller’s “Fly On The Wall” B-Side And Rarities Reissue Out August 9

0

Paul Weller’s 2003 compilation “Fly On The Wall” – a collection of b-sides, remixes and rarities is being given the reissue treatment on August 9th.

A triple vinyl compilation, it brings together rarities from Paul’s time first at Go! Discs and then subsequently Island Records.

Spanning the period 1991 – 2001, the set hasn’t been available since its original release in 2003.

Additionally, this release will also be made available digitally for the first time.

Spanning a time when Weller was incredibly prolific and on the top of his game – so much so, he could throw some of this material onto B sides when it could so easily sit side by side on any of the 3 albums released around this period.

Bustling with energy and style, this collection is a stellar document of a star maturing and growing in confidence. Highlights include: The Loved, Fly On The Wall and The Riverbank (a reworking of a classic Jam B side – Tales From The Riverbank). The track-list also features Weller’s take on some classic tunes, including Lennon’s Sexy Sadie & Instant Karma, Dylan’s I Shall Be Released and a sparkling live version of Neil Young’s Ohio which was originally on The Weaver E.P. Remixes include Portishead’s working of “Wild Wood”.

Catfish And The Bottlemen Announce 10 Year Anniversary Release Of ‘The Balcony’

0

As they prepare for their groundbreaking return to the live circuit this summer, BRIT Award-winning, arena-filling giants Catfish and the Bottlemen today announce a special anniversary reissue of their multi Platinum-selling breakthrough debut album The Balcony. Released on September 13, the album will be available on limited edition 1CD, Cassette and ultra-clear 2LP with inverted white artwork and 6 bonus tracks. Fans can also access a 7” box set, limited to 2,000 copies worldwide, which features the full album, plus “Hourglass” (Ewan McGregor version) and rare bonus track “ASA”, available on a 7” again for the first time after the original pressing 10 years ago.

Written by Van McCann and recorded in London’s Chapel Studios with producer Jim Abiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys), The Balcony propelled Catfish and the Bottlemen into the UK top 10 and the public consciousness, scooping them the BBC Introducing Award at the 2014 BBC Music Awards and British Breakthrough act at the 2016 BRIT Awards. Featuring the BPI Platinum certified hits “Cocoon” and “Kathleen” as well as another 4 certified Gold singles, its infectious, arena-ready riffs and relatable lyrics about small town teenage life won the band legions of fans. An unrivalled work ethic that saw them relentlessly tour the UK, Europe, the US and beyond has forged a connection that’s stronger than ever 10 years, hundreds of shows and millions of album sales later.

The 2LP, 1CD and cassette releases feature the original track listing plus special acoustic versions of “Cocoon”, “Kathleen” and “Pacifier”, recorded in 2015 for 1 Mic 1 Take, “Rango” (single version), longtime supporter Ewan McGregor’s 2015 acoustic cover of “Hourglass,” and rare fan favourite bonus track “ASA”. Longstanding fans will be thrilled to get their hands on the 7” box set, which is inspired by the limited run of 7” singles used to promote the band before the album’s release. It includes album versions of each of these singles, plus “ASA” and “Hourglass” (Ewan McGregor version), and replicates the artwork that was originally released. Full track listing below.

The news of the reissue comes in the wake of a spectacular return from Catfish and the Bottlemen, who sold out their biggest ever show, at Liverpool’s 32,000 capacity Sefton Park, just a week after going on sale. The Liverpool concert comes ahead of three huge open air shows in Cardiff and Edinburgh, announced last month, both of which went on to sell out in minutes, as well as their epic return to the Reading & Leeds Festival mainstage, which they headline for the second time in 2024. They’ll play Dublin’s RDS Simmonscourt on August 31 before heading off on extensive tours of Australia and the US, with nearly half of these huge global shows already sold out.

Catfish and the Bottlemen’s arena-filling sonic outlook has cemented their place amongst Britain’s most successful bands of the 21st Century. Signing to Island Records in 2014 after years of intense touring, The Balcony was followed by their landmark #1 album The Ride and 2019’s Gold certified The Balance. They’ve amassed over one billion streams, two million album sales and are closing in on 10 million single sales. On stage Van McCann possesses unique magnetic energy, and is considered one of modern rock’s great live frontmen. In the five years since releasing their debut album, they’d sold over half a million tickets, and have played to over 2 million people.

10 years on from the release of their classic debut, with the anthemic new single “Showtime” and an epic live summer ahead of him, Van McCann is back where he’s meant to be: headlining festivals, working on new music, and beginning a dynamic, exciting new era for Catfish and the Bottlemen.

0

KATSEYE – the first-ever global girl group formed using KPOP artist development methodologies – is launching in epic fashion this summer, dropping two singles in the lead up to the release of the group’s debut EP, out in August via HYBE x Geffen Records, and the premiere of a Netflix docuseries about their origin story.

The bold first single from KATSEYE – will be released June 28 12:00 AM ET / June 27 9:00 PM PT. Pre-save HERE. The group’s second single will follow in July.

The Netflix docuseries “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE” follows the year-long process of creating this one-of-a-kind girl group. With unprecedented access, the series will be a compelling portrayal of the journey to global stardom, including insight into the unique training and development program from HYBE and Geffen Records. The series, which will premiere this summer, was directed by Nadia Hallgren (Becoming) and produced by HYBE, Interscope Films and Boardwalk Pictures.

Ranging in age from 16 to 21 and coming from immensely different cultures, the six members of KATSEYE are: DANIELA (Atlanta, GA USA); LARA (Los Angeles, CA USA); MANON (Zurich, Switzerland); MEGAN (Honolulu, HI USA); SOPHIA (Manila, Philippines); and YOONCHAE (Seoul, South Korea).  Today, they revealed the KATSEYE logo. Vogue named the group as one of the “Acts to Watch This Year,” and noted, “KATSEYE’s members are out to change the look and sound of modern pop as we know it.” PEOPLE declared, “Feminine, powerful and unique is the only way to describe the hot new girl group that is KATSEYE.”
