The Country Music Association of Ontario Announces Performers for CMAOntario Festival & Awards Weekend

1

The Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAOntario) is proud to announce the first wave of performers for the CMAOntario Festival & Awards Weekend taking place May 31-June 2, 2024 in Mississauga. In addition to the 13th Annual CMAOntario Awards Show, CMAOntario Festival & Awards Weekend will include Songs & Stories: Songwriters in the Round, R2i TuneUp Conference, Street Fair, Bonfire, Tailgate Party, and Sauga Sunday.

On Saturday, June 1 the CMAOntario Festival & Awards Weekend will present Tailgate, and Bonfire – two free concerts at Celebration Square. Fans can celebrate the anticipation of the CMAOntario Awards with the afternoon Tailgate party featuring entertainment from nominees and fan favourites such as Andrew Hyatt, Jessie T, New Moon Junction, and Emily Clair. The CMAOntario Bonfire will give fans a chance to take in Ontario’s hottest new music and rising stars with evening concert performances by Jason Blaine, Les Bilinguish Boys, Karli June, Mackenzie Leigh Meyer, Lemon Cash, and Abby Stewart.

On Sunday, June 2 at Celebration Square, the City of Mississauga’s music office will present Sauga Sunday. This free, family-friendly afternoon concert will show why Mississauga was named Canadian “Music City of the Year” with an all-women lineup of the city’s top country talent featuring Elyse Saunders, Nicole Rayy, Bree Taylor, Alessia Cohle, Kendra Gabrielle and Jade Hilton.

The 13th Annual CMAOntario Awards Show, hosted by Jason McCoy and Teigen Gayse, will include exciting performances by: Karli June, who is nominated for four CMAOntario Awards this year; Owen Riegling, Jason Blaine, and Nicole Rayy, who are each nominated for three CMAOntario Awards; Griffen Palmer, up for two CMAOntario Awards; Elyse Saunders, nominated for Female Artist of the Year; River Town Saints, nominated for Group or Duo of the Year; Sugar Crush, first time nominees for Francophone Artist or Group of the Year; Callie McCullough, nominated for Roots Artist or Group of the Year; and Ryan Langdon, who is celebrating 200,000 streams and counting on his latest single “Soul & My Sanity”. The CMAOntario Awards, presented by Slaight Music, will take place on Sunday, June 2 in Hammerson Hall at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. Tickets for the CMAOntario Awards Show are on sale now.

The CMAOntario Awards Show will also include the Impact Award, which recognizes an artist, group, industry personality or organization that has left an enduring and indelibly positive footprint on the landscape of country music in Ontario. The 2024 Impact Award will be presented to Charlie Major.

Rising to the forefront of the Canadian Music scene in the early to mid-nineties, Charlie had a heyday at radio when he became the first Canadian artist in history to score six BDS #1 hits off of his debut album. Nine more chart topping hits would follow, and Charlie would crisscross the world headlining tours and connecting with his fans at fairs and festivals.

But as the old saying goes “fame comes with a cost” and it wasn’t long before a major US label signed Charlie, moved him and his family to Nashville. The head of the label told Charlie his sound needed to change and become “more country.” The marketing department thought his records might sell better in the US if he appeared on the album cover in a Stetson, and added more fiddles and steel guitars to his edgy songs. What the label did not know was that even though Major might sell out concerts, he was not the type of guy who ‘sells out’ his career. Charlie’s integrity to remain true to his fans, himself and his music was immovable and so he relinquished the dream of the big US record deal and returned to his homeland where he continues to be embraced.

Over a decade later Charlie is as successful as ever, he headlines his own tours and pairs up with the likes of ZZ Top to rock arenas full of fans from coast to coast. He has sold nearly half a million records in Canada alone and won three Juno Awards and seven CCMA’s, but you wouldn’t know it to meet him, and he would not tell you. He wears the cloak of humility, just like the hardworking folks that he represents in his music. Truly a Canadian legend and one of the accomplished ‘nice guys’ in the game, Charlie would not have it any other way.

We will have more information to come, but we cannot wait to see you. Thank you for all your support over all these years” said the Jonas Brothers.

Their monumentally successful North American run, which hit legendary venues including Toronto’s Rogers Centre, Chicago’s Wrigley Field and Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, concluded in 2023 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In 2024, THE TOUR continues its trek around the globe, returning next to South America for the first time in 10 years. The LATAM leg of THE TOUR will see the band perform in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina, along with three performances across Mexico. Standing out as one of the most successful groups of the 21st century, Jonas Brothers—Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas—have sold north of 20 million albums and counting, garnered two GRAMMY Award nominations, earned 26 Billboard Hot 100 hits, logged three consecutive #1 debuts on the Billboard 200, and generated billions of streams. Among many accolades, they’ve recently claimed a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2019, they notably ignited the comeback of the decade with their Platinum-Certified Republic Records debut, Happiness Begins. It yielded the history-making, 5x-Platinum smash “Sucker,” which minted them as “the first group in the 21st century to debut at #1 on the Hot 100,” exploded as the “longest running #1 Pop Airplay Single of 2019,” and received a GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.” Bowing at #1 on the Billboard 200, Happiness Begins impressively scored the “biggest sales week of 2019 at time of release” and housed the Double-Platinum “Only Human” and Platinum “Cool.” The band supported the album with the worldwide “Happiness Begins Tour” —selling over 1.2 million tickets—and the Amazon Original documentaries Chasing Happiness and Happiness Continues. Along the way, the members simultaneously juggled prolific solo careers extending into television, film, and successful business ventures. In 2023, Jonas Brothers once again proved they are a constant force, embarking on a new era with the release of The Album, via Republic Records. The Album was produced by Jon Bellion and features hit singles “Waffle House” and “Wings.” In support of the new album and this new era for Jonas Brothers, they kicked off “The Tour” with two sold-out shows at New York’s iconic Yankee Stadium on August 12th and 13th. “The Tour” will include stadium and arena dates around the globe through 2024, resulting in the band’s biggest and most extensive tour to date.

Stephen and Gillian say “Is it really 31 years since this was first released? It doesn’t seem that long ago, but that’s old age for you. We’re both very excited that this album (our first attempt at the pop solo spin off malarkey) is getting another outing. This time with added vinyl connoisseur appeal and remixed sleeve artwork”

Today, Toronto rap titan, AR Paisley drops a fresh take on the hip hop genre, with his dynamic collaboration “Supply & Demand” featuring viral Punjabi rap artist Harsh Likhari. “Supply and Demand” sees Paisley, an artist who has cemented his place as Toronto’s newest hip hop ambassador, join with Likhari, who gained international recognition through his collaboration with Connor Price on a single that remains true to the essence of old school hip hop.

Blending nostalgic hip hop with traditional Punjabi melodies with a seamlessness that complements both artists’ refined sound, ‘Supply & Demand’ offers a fusion of sounds that fuels Paisley’s buzz along with the demand for the rising star. The official music video merges the diverse lifestyles of the rap mavericks, alternating between AR Paisley’s Toronto home shot by videographer Jyotti Tatter and Harsh Likhari’s New Delhi, India stomping grounds, in striking visuals directed by Tango.

Paisley reflects on his motivation for the single, saying,“ I wrote this song at the start of 2024 after taking a break from the studio for a bit. I came back with a fresh mindset and fresh ears which helped piece this song together showcasing my lyrical abilities.” He also cites his desire to be a catalyst, driving up-and-coming talent to the forefront of the industry, giving others the affirmation he once desired, as another motivation for the collaboration.

‘Supply & Demand” follows Paisley’s recent Valentine’s Day release “Only You” and surprise feature on “Drippy” a collaboration with the late Sidhu Moose Wala, which accumulated over 15 million views, and charted #9 on Canada’s Billboard Hot 100.

AR Paisley’s influence extends far beyond Canadian borders, leaving an indelible mark on international markets through electrifying tours alongside AP Dhillon and Sidhu Moose Wala. His captivating stage presence and undeniable talent culminated in a sold-out Toronto date during his own headlining Canadian tour. In tandem with his musical conquests, AR Paisley’s ‘Paisley’ fashion line has cultivated a devoted and independent following, fueled by its limited-edition designs that transcend mere apparel, encapsulating a lifestyle and culture uniquely his own.

Modern AV Equipment Kicks Your Event Up a Notch

0

By Mitch Rice

When the famous Canadian academic Marshall McLuhan said, “the medium is the message,” he meant that the same message will be perceived very differently depending on how it’s delivered. Decades ago, radio features differed tremendously from TV broadcasts — the substance of the speech meant more on radio, but someone also needed to be photogenic for maximum appeal on TV.

In the digital age, today’s event holders are wise to consider the implications of this underlying idea, even if they’re using neither medium. Technical problems are unacceptable, as the AV equipment needs to impress their audience, or their message’s substance may get lost in the shuffle.

Let’s check out how the leading AV rental companies can kick your event up a notch.

Premium Equipment

It’s essential to get the basics done well, so industry leaders like Toronto AudioVisualRentals.ca offer premium equipment that ensures all video and audio are crisp. Guests should have no trouble seeing and hearing live streams or speakers.

It’s a little unforgiving because anyone considering working with you may shy away if the AV is of poor quality, but getting it right doesn’t guarantee their business, either. Proper sound and visuals are a prerequisite to running a solid event, but it’s not going to wow your event’s attendees.

3D Mapping

Thankfully, leading AV equipment has evolved beyond just showing people on screens or letting them talk through speakers. 3D mapping manages to cast whatever visuals you have onto 3D objects, rather than just 2D screens.

Imagine if you could cast your branding and logos on the façade of the building hosting the event, so attendees walk through it when they enter. You can get creative and run with this idea so long as you have the right equipment.

Installations

The best equipment in the world won’t make a good impression on your audience if it isn’t installed properly. Most people running events have people and places to see and can’t be everywhere all at once.

Trust the premier AV equipment rental businesses to expertly install their gear so it’ll be there when you need it and work flawlessly.

Consultations and Other Services

Everybody understands how a microphone and screen work, but there’s more to an event than having the basic equipment. Does your event currently have a floor plan? Do you understand the capabilities of all the equipment you’re renting?

Leading AV rental companies can deliver the equipment, set it up, and remain on-site to handle everything. If you want to save some money by handling it yourself, they can deliver the equipment and leave you to it.

From planning the event beforehand to staying on-site afterwards to help clean and return everything, they will have your back throughout the entire process. Whether it’s a corporate conference, trade show, charity event, or whatever else, the best AV rentals give you constant support.

Those leading events need to focus on the core of their value proposition and business model, not the technical equipment needed to spread their messages. If they pair with an AV rental company that ticks off all the boxes above, they’ll be free to focus on what matters most.

Produced by Live Nation, the monumental 40-date North American tour will include 3 news shows in addition to the rescheduled dates. PEACE OUT™ is set to kick off in Pittsburgh, PA and include stops in iconic arenas across the U.S. and Canada, including Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, New York’s Madison Square Garden, Austin’s Moody Center, Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, Chicago’s United Center, Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, and more before wrapping in Montreal, QC at Bell Centre on January 26, 2025. A highlight of the tour will be a stop in Boston for a special hometown show on New Year’s Eve 2024.

When the tour originally kicked off in September 2023, the Associated Press lauded it as “positively brilliant,” while USA Today noted that “the band was in peak form for this victory lap.” Echoing this sentiment, the Philadelphia Inquirer praised Aerosmith’s “ability to make such a grand-scale performance feel like a raw and raucous club date,” while PEOPLE described the show as “epic,” declaring that “Aerosmith is peacing out with a bang.” The 2024 run promises fans an electrifying show of Aerosmith’s groundbreaking hits performed in an immersive 360° production as they celebrate 50 years as America’s greatest rock band.

Celebrating their 50th anniversary, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Aerosmith have sold more than 150 million albums around the world, produced genre-defining music videos such as “Amazing,” “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got A Gun,” “Livin’ On The Edge,” and “Love In An Elevator,” and launched extravagant record-shattering global tours, most recently with their smash hit Las Vegas residency. The band has broken numerous boundaries, including becoming the first rock band with a massive commercially successful hip-hop collaboration with Run DMC on “Walk This Way” and the first hard rock band to appear during a Super Bowl Halftime Show with their 2001 performance, and in 1999, Aerosmith became the first band to have their own themed attraction at Disney World in Florida and later Paris with the launch of the Rock ‘N’ Roller coaster starring Aerosmith. The Black Crowes are leaving the bullshit in the past. 15 years after their last album of original music, the Robinson Brothers present Happiness Bastards – their 10th studio album. Some may say the project has been several tumultuous years in the making, but we argue it’s arriving at just the right time. Call it brotherly love or music destiny that brought them back together, the highly anticipated record consecrating the reunion of this legendary band just may be the thing that saves rock & roll. In a time where the art form is buried beneath the corporate sheen of its successors, The Black Crowes are biting back with the angst of words left unsaid penned on paper and electrified by guitar strings, revealing stripped, bare-boned rock & roll. No gloss, no glitter, just rhythm and blues at its very best – gritty, loud, and in your face. Since The Black Crowes reunited in 2019, they’ve made a triumphant return to form with over 150 shows spanning 20 countries worldwide, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Shake Your Money Maker, the album that put them on the map. The Robinson Brothers and longtime bassist Sven Pipien headed to the studio with producer Jay Joyce in early 2023 and the experiences of years past transcribed themself through the music as the band found their way back to their roots. And it’s finally here – Happiness Bastards is out now.
