Ali Gatie Announces Global ‘All The Things I Wish I Said Tour’

0

Today, multi-platinum Canadian singer Ali Gatie announced his 2024 ‘All The Things I Wish I Said Tour.’ Produced by Live Nation, the 21-date global run kicks off on Friday Jan 26 — Detroit, MI — Saint Andrews Hall, with stops across North America, Europe and the UK in Toronto, Montreal, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam and more before wrapping up on Sunday, April 21 in London at Earth Hall.

With his delicate fusion of R&B and pop, Ali Gatie has quickly become one of the most impactful artists in the world. He’s garnered over 3.6 billion global streams, boasts 2.4 million TikTok followers, and is nearing the 1 billion-view mark on YouTube. Alongside his solo successes, he has also collaborated with artists like Ty Dolla $ign, Alessia Cara, Tate McCrae, Marshmello, and MAX.

Ali Gatie’s music is intimate in a way that almost feels private. The Toronto-raised artist’s pop-meets-R&B is often vulnerable, wounded, and yearning — listening is less like thumbing through his diary than stumbling upon the pages he’s ripped out and stuffed at the bottom of a drawer. Hits like double-platinum acoustic love letter “It’s You” and the 2021 EP, The Idea of Her, demonstrate how affecting such an approach can be — he shares the contours of his emotions in hopes that listeners see themselves reflected. And his fans, The LISNers, have connected to these songs in a way that feels profound. After blossoming his sound via bigger projects like 2020’s You, he’s now accumulated over 3.5 billion streams across platforms. Gatie isn’t the type to care about such numbers, but it’s evidence of the powerfully authentic bonds he’s been able to form. The Idea of Her is full of new leaps, including a colorful collaboration with Marshmello and Ty Dolla $ign called “Do You Believe,” which makes it the perfect next step for both Gatie and The LISNers — the EP underscores his unguarded approach to songwriting while emphasizing that there are new worlds out there to explore. “I want my fans to know I’m still figuring this out,” he says of his next chapter. “I might not know for five or 10 years, but this is where I feel like I sit most comfortably. You can expect the unexpected.”

Chicago And Earth, Wind & Fire Launch Legendary Co-Headlining Heart & Soul 2024 North America Tour

0

Today, music legends Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago, two of the most successful and critically-acclaimed bands of all time, have announced the return of their renowned co-headlining tour across North America – Heart & Soul 2024 Tour. The Live Nation produced tour brings together the timeless music of Chicago and the iconic catalog of Earth, Wind & Fire for one unforgettable night of music filled with epic sets from each artist that will culminate in an encore performance with both bands on stage together. The 30-city tour kicks off on July 10 at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO making stops in Toronto, ON; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA and more before wrapping up in Palm Desert, CA at Acrisure Arenaon September 7.

With more than 200 million albums sold, 11 GRAMMY® wins and nearly 30 nominations between them, the tour will continue to provide unparalleled entertainment from two of America’s most legendary musical groups. Billboard hails that Chicago is one of “the most successful American rock band[s] of all time, in terms of both albums and singles” and “been able to fill arenas with satisfied fans” with music that has endured throughout time while Rolling Stone has described Earth, Wind & Fire as “a funk-fusion powerhouse that changed the sound and history of popular music.” In 2016 Chicago was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Hall in 2000.

ormed in Chicago, IL in 1967, Chicago is the first American band to chart albums in Billboard’s Pop Top 40 in six consecutive decades, ranking as the highest charting American band in Billboard’s Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists. In their 56 years of existence, Chicago have sold over 100 million records, making them one of the best selling music groups of all time. This “rock and roll band with horns” found success with their original sound of pop and rock fusion, including hits “Make Me Smile,” “25 or 6 to 4,” “Saturday In The Park,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” and so many more. To date, the band has had 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive Number One albums, 11 Number One singles and 5 Gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 39 albums have been certified platinum, and the band has a total of 48 gold and platinum awards. Chicago’s lifetime achievements include two Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and an induction of its original members into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Additionally, their first record (a double album) was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame, and original band members Robert Lamm and Jimmy Pankow were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Chicago continue to be true ambassadors for their beloved hometown, carrying the city’s name with pride and dignity around the world.

Earth, Wind & Fire are a music institution. In 1969, music legend Maurice White birthed the music force named after the elements from his very own astrological charts. With soul as deep as the planet, Earth, Wind & Fire charted a history that will live on forever. They’ve scored eight number one hits and have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. They’ve released 23 albums; eight of those albums went Double Platinum and hit the Top 10, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time. They’ve won an impressive nine GRAMMY® Awards including one for Lifetime Achievement (2012). In 2000, Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, cementing their lasting impact on popular music and, in 2019, their contributions to arts and culture was acknowledged in Washington DC with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors.

The music of Earth, Wind & Fire is more alive than ever as they continue to inspire new audiences and thrill those who have been with them from the beginning. Like the elements in their name, Earth, Wind & Fire’s music has withstood ever-changing trends in the world and shows no sign of vanishing as they continue to create joy and uplifting music that will forever reach a sacred universal atmosphere. From the funky and infectious “Let’s Groove” to the timeless dance classic “September” to the heartfelt “Reasons,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s catalog of hits has become the soundtrack to many lives; now, then and forever.

Victoria Houser Unveils Poignant Tribute To East Canadian Roots In ‘By the Ocean’ From New EP ‘Somewhere Close To Home’

0

Toronto-based Singer-songwriter Victoria Houser showcases her superb storytelling once more in her new single “By the Ocean” from her new EP Somewhere Close To Home.

The song is an ode to her East Canadian roots and explores the magic of her upbringing in the coastal town of Hubbards, Nova Scotia. Each verse pays homage to a member of her family and the crucial role they played in her early life.

“My family and the vibrant tales of our home served as the heartbeat behind ‘By the Ocean.’ Each verse encapsulates the essence of one of them; my mom, my dad, my two sisters, and my brother, all of whom played roles in shaping who I am.”

For Houser, now based in Toronto, ON, writing the song was second nature, and the words “poured out effortlessly, resonating with my deep connection to home.” The song is a thank-you to the people and the memories that made Houser who she is today.

Not only do Houser’s carefully crafted lyrics reflect the tranquility of her hometown and the comfort of family life, but the musical composition itself—a clever blend of folk, roots, and country—further envelopes the listener in the sounds of the coast. Blended with Houser’s warm voice and authentic narrative, the song transports us into a peaceful, seaside life.

“The musical arrangements in ‘By the Ocean’ sought to echo the coastal melodies of my childhood, serenading listeners with the sounds of my home,” Houser says.

“By the Ocean” is Houser’s second single from her new EP, Somewhere Close to Home. The album’s title is derived from a lyric of “By the Ocean”: “In my final resting place / Please lay me somewhere close to home / Near the singing of the waves.”

The title, lovingly chosen by Houser, “mirrors the emotional compass guiding these four tracks—a longing for the sanctuary of home, whether it’s the serene coastal vibes of Nova Scotia or the nostalgic comfort found in the company of dear friends and lovers.”

The second single comes on the heels of Houser’s heart wrenching “When You’re Sober,” an upbeat, unusually melancholic, and infectious track about the turmoil of a failing relationship.

“Every song on Somewhere Close to Home carries a piece of my story, inspired by moments of joy, heartache, and the intricate threads that connect us to our roots,” Houser says. “By the Ocean” is no exception, and the earnest new single wraps listeners in the luxury of coming home.

Dracula Jackson “Dreams” Up Pop-Rock Magic On New Single

0

Did you ever have a dream that stuck with you so doggedly and irresistibly that you began to question your hold on reality itself? That’s the kind of experience Dracula Jackson – a.k.a. Annapolis singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Sean Jackson – has conjured up with “Dreams,” the haunting new single from his most recent album, Shadows of a Ghost.

An arresting alt-pop number with the persistence of a particularly turbulent night, “Dreams” takes hold of your waking brain and won’t let go. Supple acoustic guitar and delicate piano mesh perfectly over simple yet insistent drumming, providing a firm bed for Jackson’s plaintive, ethereal vocal lines. The echoey, late-night vibe of the production keeps his voice in the eerie near-distance as he repeats lines so poetic in their minimalism that they practically become a mantra:

I can’t fall asleep
I think about you
I think about you
A secret that I keep
I think about you
I think about you
A cascade of multi-tracked vocals rings in the chorus, as the words become a hymn to disorientation:
And it’s all in my dreams
I know it’s a sin, but I don’t know where to begin
And it’s all in my dreams
Just give me a sign so I know you weren’t a dream

Jackson says he meant for the song to convey “an unexpected encounter with a stranger in the night,” accompanying the narrator on “a journey whose destination is unclear. Did it happen? Was it real? Maybe the dream itself is more important than the truth.”

The truth about Jackson is that he’s a major talent on multiple fronts. Following the example of one of his idols, Prince, he’s practically a one-man band on record: “Dreams,” like the other eight tracks on Shadows of a Ghost, showcases his skills on drums, bass and guitar, at the keyboard, and of course behind the mic. (Co-producer and co-engineer Chris Seaton, a friend of Jackson’s since childhood, plays steel guitar on the new single, as well as Mellotron and synth elsewhere on the album.)

But the late Minneapolis wonder is hardly the only touchstone for Jackson’s output. On the writing front, he’s been influenced by everyone from The Beatles to The Smiths to Interpol. Real life, though, is reliably his greatest muse, with his work across several albums acting as a kind of diary of his personal journey through love, loss, longing and finally love again. (With his wife, Laura Brino, he performs in their act Lily and the Pearl.)

While he’s only been recording under the Dracula Jackson moniker for two years, this reliably prolific artist has been performing since the age of 15 and had recorded two full albums of original material by the time he was old enough to vote. Shadows of a Ghost combines new material and previously unreleased tracks from what’s already been a near-career’s worth of activity, forming what Jackson calls “a virtual scrapbook of memories.” One listen to “Dreams,” and you’ll have a new memory for of your own.

Collette Cooper Presents: DARKSIDE OF CHRISTMAS Chapters 1 & 2

0

Following on from 2022’s impactful Darkside of Christmas Chapter 1, Collette Cooper, known for her individual, unmistakable voice returns this festive season with Darkside of Christmas Chapter 2 (Thelonious Punk Records.)

Reflecting the current political and social environment caused by the impact of national and global events, Darkside Of Christmas Chapters 1 & 2 takes a more poignant approach to the seasonal album, aiming to recognise the recent difficulties that have been felt by many around the world, touching on themes of love, loss and empathy, tied together with wry wit, edgy humour and outstanding musicianship.

While the theme may at first appear saturnine, Darkside Of Christmas’ ultimate sentiment is an uplifting feeling of spirituality and hope, laced with a devil-may-care party spirit designed to unify those who feel that the hour of ‘forced fun’ is upon them. Songs such as ‘Run Santa Baby’, sees old Saint Nick feeling the pinch of frostbite, while Cooper’s rendition of ‘What A Wonderful World’ (recorded live in one take) sails over the sound of an old honky-tonk piano with the odd broken key, conjuring the essence of a singalong around the fire after a few too many glasses of Christmas spirit.

A more personal sentiment is projected on the original track ‘Another Day’ – dedicated to Collette’s best friend Claire Bonham, who unexpectedly passed away in March 2020 (the last time they spent time together was New Year’s Day 2020), while the classic jazz standard ‘It Ain’t Necessarily So’ is given a unique treatment with the addition of the melody from ‘Carol Of The Bells’.

The final jewel in the crown is the addition of legendary British actor Ray Winstone, who introduces the album by reciting a compelling, original poem by Collette Cooper, setting the tone for what is to come.

Chapter 2 opens with another Cooper-penned poem, this time recited by award winning, gritty British actor, Maxine Peake to start the haunting original composition ‘When the Snow Falls’.

Chapter 2 sees Cooper reinvent her single from 2020, Lost Soul, with a gospel inflected a cappella opening followed by a full-on funk-blues experience entitled Lost Soul (Piece of Mind).

The final new track ends the project like it began with Cooper’s unique take on an old Carol, this time being ‘Coventry Carol’ whose theme of war and strife is a chilling echo of today’s headlines and given that it was recorded in September it is an eerie example of art predicting life.

Said Collette: ‘A lot of love, blood, sweat, tears, and snow has gone into this album.’

Recorded at Abbey Road and Dean Street Studios, (Collette’s body of work is mostly recorded live in one or two takes) with original artwork by the acclaimed photographer Rankin, Darkside Of Christmas Chapters 1 & 2 is a distinctive and stylish work, destined to indulge all of this years’ Scrooges and maybe a few Tiny Tim’s for good measure!
