Deep Purple To Release Super Deluxe Edition of Machine Head

0

Deep Purple unleashed one of the best guitar riffs since the invention of rock and roll with “Smoke On The Water,” a song dubbed the Beethoven’s 5th of hard rock. Since its 1972 debut on Machine Head, the song and the album have left an indelible mark on music, inspiring countless bands around the world.

Warner Records and Rhino honor the album’s enormous legacy with a comprehensive version introducing new mixes and previously unreleased live recordings. MACHINE HEAD: SUPER DELUXE EDITION will be available on March 29 as a 3-CD/LP/Blu-ray.

Highlighting the collection are several different versions of the album, including new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes by Dweezil Zappa. The 1974 quadraphonic mix and a newly remastered version of the original album are also featured, adding depth to the extraordinary set. Zappa’s newly remixed stereo version of “Smoke On The Water” is available today digitally. Listen HERE.

The Super Deluxe Edition also contains two captivating live performances. The first, recorded on March 9, 1972, at the Paris Theatre in London, captures the group’s unrivaled stage presence during the “Machine Head Tour.” The second, previously unreleased, was recorded in April 1971 at the Montreux Casino in Switzerland. The band planned to record Machine Head there that December, but the venue burned down right before the sessions began, an event immortalized in “Smoke On The Water.”

In the aftermath, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, singer Ian Gillan, bassist Roger Glover, and drummer Ian Paice relocated to the nearby Grand Hotel (empty for the winter season) to record the album. Despite the chaos, the band managed to create its most successful album ever, topping the U.K. album chart and cracking the Top 10 in the U.S., earning a double platinum certification in 1986.

The previously unreleased Montreux concert promises to be a highlight for fans. The audience recording covers songs the band recorded prior to Machine Head, including “Child In Time” (from 1969’s Concerto for Group and Orchestra), “Speed King” (from 1970’s Deep Purple in Rock), and “Strange Kind Of Woman” (from 1971’s Fireball ).

The new Dolb Atmos and 2024 mixes provide fresh and immersive perspectives on this classic album and were made by Zappa using the original tapes. In the liner notes, Zappa says: “It’s one of thoserecords where I think, ‘How did they come up with this?’ It’s got classical influences in the guitar and the keyboard, but then it’s got the blues and there’s little bits of funkiness And you have this singer who has the most killer voice. All these things come together in a way where it doesn’t sound like commercial music, yet people got really excited about it. It’s a fascinating recipe.”

My Next Read: “Dear Catherine Wheel: Bonkers Letters To U.K. Indie Artists With Genuine Replies” By Derek and Dave Philpott

0

For close to a decade and a half the Philpotts have been getting under the skin of musical artistes. Picking up on glaring errors in their lyrics or sometimes getting completely the wrong end of the stick (perhaps to irritate things a little further) they totally misunderstand the meaning of ‘poetic license’.

Hundreds of missives have landed on the real and virtual doormats of musicians, worldwide. In return, these lyrical legends have exercised their right to reply, correcting and sometimes confirming the authors’ summation of what went wrong… or right.

In this book, enquiries were aimed directly at U.K. Indie bands.. These included Adorable, The Bevis Frond, Bis, Catherine Wheel, Crazyhead, Cud, David Devant and this Spirit Wife, Flowered Up, Fuzzbox, Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie, The June Brides, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, New Fast Automatics Daffodils, The Nightingales, The Orchids, Paris Angels, Pele, Salad, Senseless Things, The Soup Dragons, Spacemen 3, Swervedriver, Talulah Gosh, That Petrol Emotion, 3 Colours Red, Thousand Yard Stare, The Telescopes and The Woodentops

‘Dear Catherine Wheel” is the result.

From Will Arnett, Crave Announces New Original Adult Animated Comedy Series, SUPER TEAM CANADA

0

Crave announced today a 10-episode order for the new, half-hour adult animated comedy, SUPER TEAM CANADA, its first commission of an animated series. The Crave Original series is produced in partnership with Thunderbird Entertainment’s Atomic Cartoons (Max’s YOUNG LOVE), and Will Arnett’s Electric Avenue (SNAKE OIL, TWISTED METAL), and is currently in production with a premiere set for 2025.

Created by Canadian Emmy®-winning writers, and brothers, Robert Cohen (HBO’s SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE, THE BIG BANG THEORY) and Joel H. Cohen (THE SIMPSONS), the animated comedy focuses on the exploits of six, little-known Canadian superheroes trying to save the world from evil giant robots, an unemployed octopus, and needy hardware store clerks. The stakes are high for these stereotypically underdog Canadian super-unknowns, who are called in as Earth’s last resort when all the other superheroes have been destroyed.

The band performed the record in full, omitting a few tracks that didn’t fit the bill. This concert recording will be available on April 20 for the first time as a 12” pink vinyl with a limited run of pink cassettes at participating record stores in Canada and the US.

The band’s legacy will be honoured with a yearlong celebration, starting with the designation of the Record Store Day Canada Ambassadors, then a deluxe package of their breakthrough album, Up To Here, the latest installment of a series of special deluxe packages released over the last few years– Road Apples 30th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset (2021), Fully Completely Vinyl Release (2022), Phantom Power 25th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset (2023). Plus, a four-part Amazon documentary, and much more.

In 2022, they were inducted into Canada’s Walk Of Fame for Humanitarianism in pursuit of social and environmental justice. They had previously received a star on the Walk Of Fame in 2002 for Arts & Entertainment. Rhino Announces Vinyl Reissues For Keith Sweat’s Make It Last Forever And Eric Benét’s A Day In The Life

0

Rhino Records celebrates the start of Black History Month today by announcing vinyl reissues of albums by two legendary architects of modern R&B: Keith Sweat’s triple-platinum debut, Make It Last Forever, and Eric Benét’s breakthrough release, A Day In The Life.

Keith Sweat made an impressive debut with Make It Last Forever, a triple-platinum album about love and romance that showcased his smooth vocals and soulful melodies. A hit out of the gate, the lead single, “I Want Her,” went to #1 on the R&B chart, peaked at #5 on the Hot 100, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album produced three more Top 10 R&B hits: the title track, “Don’t Stop Your Love,” and “Something Just Ain’t Right.” In 1998, Make It Last Forever ranked at the top of Billboard’s year-end R&B chart, establishing Sweat as a trailblazer in contemporary R&B.

Eric Benét’s sophomore album, A Day In The Life, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. On the album’s first single, Benét is joined by guest vocalist Faith Evans for “Georgy Porgy,” a song the rock band Toto originally recorded in 1979. Benét’s version was popular in Europe and the U.S., where it was a hit on the R&B and pop charts. The album’s second single, “Spend My Life With You,” was an even bigger hit. Featuring singer Tamia, the song soared to the top of the Hot R&B chart, where it stayed for three straight weeks. The single was certified gold and nominated for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2000 Grammy Awards.

The Grateful Dead Break The All-Time Record For Most Top 40 Albums on Billboard 200

0

Today, the Grateful Dead have broken the record for most Billboard Top 40 albums of all time, by any act in history. Further cementing the legendary band as one of the world’s most treasured musical and social phenomena, Dave’s Picks Vol. 49 debuts at #25 on this week’s Billboard 200, and marks the Dead’s 59th album in the Top 40. On the heels of Dave’s Picks Vol. 48, which tied both Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley’s chart records this past fall, the latest edition of the beloved 13-year-old series pushes the group into a category of one. But beyond this staggering statistic, the historic achievement serves as a tangible testament to the enduring connection between the Grateful Dead and their ever-expanding audience. Nearly 60 years since the band’s inception, that bond is as strong today as it has ever been, spanning several generations and bringing newer and younger followers into its fold every day. As fans continue to adopt the group as part of their personal identity, the Grateful Dead’s all-encompassing ecosystem continues on its precedent-setting path of growth in the modern era.

Dave’s Picks Vol. 49 consists of two complete Grateful Dead shows from Stanford University’s Frost Amphitheatre on 4/27/85 and 4/28/85; back-to-back hometown performances that reaffirmed the band – then twenty years into their immortal run – as a San Francisco institution. Like each of Dave’s Picks quarterly installments, the top-grade, beautifully packaged compendium was produced and curated by Grateful Dead Legacy Manager and Audio Archivist, David Lemieux. Vol. 49 is Dave’s Picks’ 41st title to enter the Top 40 and the Grateful Dead’s 45th Top 40 record released by Rhino Entertainment. It also debuts #1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales this week, marking the first time the Dead have topped that chart.

“This could be the most unlikely and unexpected record in music history, and is a testament to a few things,” says David Lemieux, who celebrates his 25th Anniversary with the Grateful Dead in 2024. “First and foremost is the exceptional and consistent quality of the Grateful Dead’s more than 2,000 live shows. On the heels of this is the loyalty and passion of the many Dead Heads who have made this record possible. And to top it off, the Grateful Dead have a partnership with Rhino that ensures these many album releases are produced with care, love, and respect for both the band’s music and legacy, and the Dead Heads themselves. It’s an honour and privilege to work for this community, and our aim is to keep building on this record by delivering the quality of recordings Dead Heads have come to expect for many years ahead.”

Mark Pinkus, President of Rhino, adds, “It is truly remarkable to witness the Grateful Dead’s enduring legacy and profound impact. Their music and culture transcend time, and this groundbreaking achievement is a testament to their ongoing influence. Rhino is honored to continue to share their meaningful and magical music with Dead Heads, both old and new.”

“This remarkable achievement speaks not only to the genius and vision of the Grateful Dead, it is also a reminder of their truly epic live shows that reinterpreted their great American songbook every single time they took the stage! Simply put, this is another incredible milestone for a band who has never compromised, and has always done everything on their own terms,” says Bernie Cahill, Founding Partner, Activist Artists Management and manager of the Grateful Dead.

With the impending release of Dave’s Picks Vol. 50 (Palladium, New York City – 5/3/77), in addition to 50th Anniversary reissues, high-fidelity vinyl pressings, a new season of the Good Ol’ Grateful Deadcast and so much more on the horizon in 2024, the Grateful Dead remain committed to serving their always-growing community and time-honored traditions, with a pioneering devotion to complete accessibility.

The Grateful Dead is a social and musical phenomenon that grew into a genuine American treasure. In 1965, an entire generation was linked together by common ideals, gathering by the hundreds and thousands. This movement created a seamless connection between the band and its fans. As the band toured, Dead Heads would follow. Not because it was a part of popular culture but because it is a true counterculture that exists to this very day-one that earnestly believes in the value of its beliefs. By 1995, the Grateful Dead had attracted the most concertgoers in the history of the music business, and today remains one of the all-time leaders in concert ticket sales. Eventually, the caravan evolved into a community with various artists, craftsmen and entrepreneurs supplying a growing demand for merchandise that connected them to the music. Today, the connection is as strong as ever. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and received a GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Their final tally of 2,318 total concerts remains a world record. The Grateful Dead recently celebrated their 59th Top 40 album on the Billboard chart, a feat no other group has achieved.

Billy Currington Announces Spring 2024 Tour With Kip Moore

0

Billy Currington will hit the road this spring with Kip Moore and special guests Larry Fleet and Redferrin on select dates, produced by Live Nation. Taking his Multi-Platinum hits and energetic live show to major markets including Atlanta, Nashville, New York, and more, tickets go on sale this Friday (1/26) at 10am local time.

Billy Currington has spent nearly two decades topping the country charts, parlaying his rich, emotion-laden tenor and unerring song sense into some of the format’s most memorable hits. Across multiple Platinum-certified albums, the Georgia native has tallied 12 No. 1 singles, including 4X Platinum hit “People Are Crazy,” 3X Platinum “Good Directions,” 3X Platinum “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right,” plus Double-Platinum “Do I Make You Wanna,” Platinum “We Are Tonight,” and more. Equally skilled at delivering upbeat summertime anthems as well as exploring the complexities of life and love with a poignant ballad, Currington joined Jessie James Decker on the wistful, slow-burning duet “I Still Love You.” Two new songs – “City Don’t” and “Anchor Man” – are out now, with more new music on the way.

Multi-PLATINUM singer/songwriter Kip Moore recently released his fifth studio album DAMN LOVE. Praised by Holler as “the best album of Kip Moore’s career.” Moore’s DAMN LOVE WORLD TOUR in 2023 saw more play sold-out headlining shows – including stadiums – in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, The U.K., Europe, and the U.S. Known as “one of country’s more thoughtful artists” (Billboard), Moore has toured the world earning acclaim and a rabid fanbase as an all-in performer in each setting, consistently selling out headlining shows internationally with huge followings. Praised by Noisey as “an uncompromising, genre-defying artist firing on all cylinders” Moore has blazed his trail, with “a bit more Southern rock than traditional country… to be a Kip Moore fan suddenly became a marker of your having a certain refinement in your country-music taste” (Chicago Tribune). Moore first splashed into the mainstream with the double-PLATINUM “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck” in 2012, then followed up with three more best-selling No. Ones (“Hey Pretty Girl,” “Beer Money” and “More Girls Like You”). In 2024, Moore will hit the road with Billy Currington as part of a limited Billy Currington & Kip Moore: Live In Concert run, as well as join HARDY this summer for his QUIT!! Tour.

Tennessee-born troubadour Larry Fleet grew up on a stack of records spanning Merle Haggard, Otis Redding, Willie Nelson, and Marvin Gaye. A thoughtful songwriter with a knack for a one-liner, an ear for a sturdy hook, and a powerhouse voice that strikes like a match, Fleet was working blue-collar jobs to make ends meet long before landing his recording contract with Big Loud Records. Six years in, the devout family man is turning heads among fans and critics with albums full of soon-to-be-classics; 2021’s tribute to the music that raised him, Stack of Records, his aptly titled 2019 debut, Workin’ Hard, and his third effort, Earned It, out now. Saving Country Music puts it simply: “If you’re looking for the future of traditional country music, then look no further than…Larry Fleet.” A road-tested live show standout, Fleet wrapped 2022 and 2023 with his headlining One For The Road Tour and Larry Fleet Live, respectively, following up crowd-winning opening slots supporting Darius Rucker, Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Jon Pardi, and many more. He just announced his upcoming headlining run, The Earned It Tour, set for the top of 2024.

In many ways, Warner Music Nashville’s rising artist Redferrin is a musical version of the famous Jack Daniels Old No. 7 blend. Made in Tennessee just like the whiskey, the singer-songwriter is emerging from behind the scenes of country’s edgy new post-modern era. He packs a punch you can’t ignore, and although his mix of country heart and hip-hop swagger might be an acquired taste, he’s been bringing fans a full-bodied buzz for years now – most recently with his viral hit “Jack & Diet Coke,” which has surpassed 25 million global streams and charted on Spotify’s Viral 50 (US) chart. But with his long-awaited Old No. 7 debut, out February 16, those fans can now savor their buzz longer than ever. Each song on the EP was co-produced by Redferrin himself – another important new ingredient making Old No. 7 his most potent (and exciting) small-batch yet. Best known as a collaborator, his co-written hits include good-timing anthems by early believers Florida Georgia Line – tracks like “Lil Bit” (featuring Nelly), “New Truck,” “Countryside” and more, plus a record-breaking Canadian No. 1, “Can’t Help Myself” by Dean Brody & The Reklaws. No longer sending his best songs away, Redferrin is all-in on his artistic vision. The man behind the scenes is now stepping into the spotlight and it’s about time. The 2024 Amazon Breakthrough Artist to Watch has amassed over 60 million global streams so far and will tour across the country throughout the year with artists such as Niko Moon, Billy Currington and more.

The tour will also offer a variety of different VIP packages and experiences for fans to take their concert experience to the next level. Packages vary but include premium tickets, invitation to the Neon Lounge, exclusive signed poster, VIP merchandise gift & more.

Adding to the excitement, renowned country rocker David Lee Murphy and country hitmaker ERNEST will accompany Brooks & Dunn on the REBOOT 2024 Tour. Fans can expect electrifying performances from “country greats” (Dallas Observer) Brooks & Dunn with Fort Worth Star Telegram praising their show as “the dream of the ‘90s country was alive and well, successfully passed down to a new generation of singers and fans alike.”

With 20 No. 1 hits stretching back to 1991, two GRAMMY awards, dozens of ACM and CMA honors and a discography counting more album sales than any duo in history – regardless of genre – Brooks & Dunn’s influence on today’s country has never been in question. Hits like “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” “My Maria” and “Believe” have propelled the duo to more than 30 million albums sold, with the New York Times heralding “together they helped drive the power-country era of the early-to-mid 1990s and continued to benefit from the sea change in the genre they helped initiate right through their most recent albums.” Their original “Merle Haggard meets The Rolling Stones” vibe made them progressive stars in their own right. The duo’s recently released collaboration project REBOOT debuted at No. One on Billboard’s Top Country Albums. The impressive feat marks the first time the duo has topped the album charts since 2009 while simultaneously earning the duo their 10th Billboard 200 Top 10 album, the most of any country duo or group in the chart’s history. In 2019 the duo was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in the “Modern Era Artist” category and they hold the record for the longest running Country Music residency in Las Vegas. The Doobie Brothers Announce The 2024 Tour

0

Four-time GRAMMY Award winners and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, The Doobie Brothers, have announced The 2024 Tour which will touch down in 38 U.S. cities, many of which the band has not played in several years, beginning with Seattle at the White River Amphitheatre on June 15, 2024. The 2024 Tour will go on to major markets like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and New York City at Madison Square Garden on August 7, 2024, before wrapping in Salt Lake City at the USANA Amphitheater on August 30, 2024.

The Doobie Brothers will also be joined by GRAMMY Award winning artists Robert Cray and Steve Winwood on various dates. A Blues Hall of Fame inductee, Robert Cray and his band have been touring worldwide since 1974, and singer-songwriter Steve Winwood has composed countless hits over the past five decades including “Higher Love,” “Valerie,” “Back In The High Life Again,” among many others.

The 2024 Tour follows The Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour which had TOM JOHNSTON, MICHAEL MCDONALD, PAT SIMMONS and JOHN MCFEE back on the road together for the first time in over 25 years. Selling nearly 50 million albums worldwide, The Doobie Brothers have had five top-10 singles, 16 top-40 hits, 3 multi-platinum albums, 7 platinum albums, 14 gold albums and own a rare diamond record for their 1976 album, Best of the Doobies.

In 2023, the band released a new single, “Lahaina”, their first release since their 2021 album Liberté. The song, which also featured Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro, and Henry Kapono, is in support of those affected by the devastating fires in Maui last year. Along with this new music, The Doobie Brothers’ collection of timeless hits will once again be played by the artists who wrote them, providing fans the rare opportunity to see these Rock and Roll legends performing their full catalog of songs on stage.

For over five decades, The Doobie Brothers have been known for delivering mind-blowing, roots-based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven rock and roll – all of which recently culminated in an induction into the 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Boasting one of the most loyal fan bases in music, selling more than 48 million albums, and winning four GRAMMY® Awards, The Doobie Brothers continue to write and record new material and tour the world. Their No. 1 singles “Black Water” and “What a Fool Believes,” both gold, lead a catalog of indelible songs that include: “Listen to the Music,” “China Grove,” “Jesus Is Just All Right,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “Long Train Runnin’,” “Take Me In Your Arms,” “Takin’ it to the Streets,” “Minute by Minute,” “You Belong to Me,” “The Doctor” and more. In all, the Doobies have tallied up five top 10 singles and 16 top 40 hits. Beginning with their multi-million-selling sophomore collection Toulouse Street, the Doobies have 3 multi-platinum, 7 platinum, and 14 Gold albums. Best of the Doobies has sold more than 12 million copies – a rare “diamond record.” In 2021, the band kicked off their 50th anniversary tour which reunited Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, and John McFee on stage. Additionally, The Doobie Brothers released their autobiography, Long Train Runnin’ on July 26, 2022.
