Joe Satriani Releases “Pumpin’” from His ‘Elephants of Mars’ Studio Album

0

World-renowned guitarist JOE SATRIANI recently released his 19th studio album, The Elephants of Mars on April 8, 2022 with his newest single, “Pumpin’,” via his new label, earMUSIC, the international rock label of entertainment group Edel.

New single, “Pumpin’” showcases the band’s funky fusion party side, as Satriani describes “Pumpin’” as a high-energy, funky celebration about the visceral side of being alive. “Heart pumpin’, living large, moving fast and feelin’ good!”

The critical acclaim for the new album is in, with Guitarist Magazine calling the album “a multi-layered delight from start to finish,” and the video for the first single, “Sahara,” has now been viewed over 1+ million times since its release just a few weeks ago.

In 2020, with time constraints removed, The Elephants of Mars truly represents the album that Satriani himself hoped he could deliver with his band. “We did everything. We tried the craziest ideas. And we entertained every notion we had about turning something backwards, upside down, seeing what could happen.”

Similarly, the creative gates were wide open for all of the musicians to take liberties on the songs for The Elephants of Mars and share a side of themselves they hadn’t previously been able to.

For over three decades, the guitar virtuoso has traveled the world, playing to sold-out crowds as both a headliner and as the founder of the all-star “G3” guitar extravaganza. Satriani’s studio and live recordings have sold more than 10+ million copies worldwide to date, and, of his many solo albums, two have gone Platinum and four others went Gold — with 15 GRAMMY Award nominations between them.

His side project, Chickenfoot, featuring former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, former bassist Michael Anthonym and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smithm saw their debut album certified Gold and their second studio album debuted at #9.

Award-Winning Harmonica Virtuoso Mike Stevens Announces New Album, Breathe In The World, Breathe Out Music

0

Award-winning Canadian harmonica ace Mike Stevens is set to Breathe In The World, Breathe Out Music with the announcement of his new album — available May 20, 2022 via Stony Plain Records.

Known for his genre-bending, rules-eschewing approach to the harp, Breathe In The World, Breathe Out Music spotlights the multi-talented virtuoso in an inventively alternate way; while his unique vocal harmonica technique features prominently across all 12 songs, Stevens also provides lead vocals on four tracks — despite revealing a previous discomfort around singing.

‘Discomfort’ is an understated yet critical piece of the new LP’s puzzle; while the world was dealing with COVID-19, Stevens was also navigating a late-stage Lyme disease diagnosis that saw him experiencing difficulties with walking, cognitive function, and joint pain — to the point of often being unable to hold instruments.

That could have been earth-shattering for Stevens, of whom legendary Grand Ole Opry star Roy Acuff once said: “I’ve never heard anyone play the harmonica like you play the harmonica.”

“What happened, in a really strange way, is I played differently than I have on any other record because I didn’t have much memory,” Stevens shares of the songwriting process around the new release. “I was just reacting to what was there in the moment; it wasn’t about muscle memory, or licks, or things I’d thought about, or lines, or anything.

“It was strictly reactionary.”

From bluegrass to West African music, country to blues, fiddle tunes to experimental soundscapes, the result is a 53-minute offering that has Stevens sharing the spotlight with several notable guests — including Polly Harris, Cory James Mitchell, Kevin Breit, Jeff Getty, Jesse Wells, Art Hratchian, and Jeff Bird.

“It made it really easy to record,” Stevens says of the collaboration process with peers who offered patience and an important support network in addition to talent and skill. “I picked musicians and friends I knew could groove really hard and just respond in the moment, not over-thinking anything. There was no pressure.”

The forthcoming release features seven original songs, including new single, “Like A Little Bird” — featuring Polly Harris, and is available on digital platforms now.

Written about the time when Stevens and his wife, Jane, were caregivers for his mother, he’d purchased a budgie for companionship for her after his father passed away. Once, while his mother was asleep while very ill, he saw the little bird sitting on her hands for hours.

“It’s just the idea that, even when things were at their very darkest, there’s a light in there,” he says.

It’s his ability to capture life through music while also pioneering advanced harmonica techniques that weave through Mike Stevens’ 35-year career as both an acclaimed solo and collaborative musician, songwriter, composer, educator, author, keynote speaker, and humanitarian — including the registered charity he founded, ArtsCan Circle in support of Indigenous youth in isolated communities.

He’s performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage more than 300+ times, and collaborated with legendary artists such as Raymond McLain, Matt Andersen, Okaidja Afroso, the Atlantic Ballet, and more. In addition to receiving the Government of Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal as well as the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal, he’s won the Canadian Country Music Association’s Slaight Music Humanitarian Award, Canadian Folk Music Awards’ Innovator of the Year, Folk Music Ontario’s Estelle Klein Award, Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards’ Recording of the Year and multi-Entertainer of the Year nods, and more.

Electronic Producer Jay Slay Teams Up With Scarlett Darling To Reinvigorate “Shape Of You”

0

Dramatically different from its predecessor, award-winning electronic artist and producer Jay Slay’s new rendition of Ed Sheeran’s chart-topping hit single, “Shape of You,” hits all the right notes with a sweet after-taste left behind.

Slay’s version of “Shape Of You” features gritty guitar and Latin-flavored percussion elements that lend an air of sensuality to this dancehall-inspired cover song. Featuring Scarlett Darling’s sultry vocals that pay homage to the original version of the song, long, sensual syllables tie into swift and seductive lyrics — captivating the listener and forcing them into a solid groove.

“I wanted to move away from strictly making original music,” Slay shares. “I wanted to expand into making the occasional cover song, having fun creating entirely new instrumentations and harmonization to well-known tunes.

“I wanted to bring life to these hits in different ways.”

High-octane sonic exploration is par for the course for the DJ, producer, and one of the leaders at the Edmonton, AB-based Vibe Raiders label. A classically trained pianist with 20 years of formal studies, Slay is endowed with a profound and deep understanding of the inner workings of music. This knowledge is the foundation that Slay’s productions live and breathe — where the outcome of the build is entirely limited by the imagination thanks to the vast array of modern production tools in his armor.

With 18 releases up to date — including the 200,000+ streamed “All Night Long” — Jay Slay’s success has led him to Digital Empire Records hosting five remix competitions for his original music.

Part of Slay’s job working at the Vibe Raiders label is event management, which ties flawlessly into his background as a DJ, party organizer, and innovator — like his ability to bridge between analog and digital music, including his signature DJ-ready bottle opener USBs.

While Slay is a formidable producer in the live music and studio music scene, he is also a respected asset of the music community; Jay finds himself with an altruistic mission tied into his music career as a music educator, a musician mental health speaker, and contributing author.

All this grinding and selfless contribution have led to Slay’s accolades — most notably his FM Radio Play across 120+ Canadian and the United States stations.

On top of that, he has reached 1+ million streams across direct streaming platforms, and received a #1 Most Added spot on the North American Indie FM Radio Stations in May 2020 for his single “All Night Long.”

Following 2019’s critically acclaimed release of her seventh consecutive No. 1 album, Wildcard, the Texas native ushered in her next musical era with the recent release of current Top 15-and-climbing single “If I Was a Cowboy,” while also adding her voice to Netflix’s new season of Queer Eye with inclusive anthem “Y’all Means All.” She is set to hit the road on The Bandwagon Tour with Little Big Town this spring.

In addition to Wildcard, the celebrated singer/songwriter’s lauded discography includes The Weight of These Wings (2016), Platinum (2014), Four The Record (2011), Revolution (2009), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2007) and Kerosene (2005). In addition, she has released three albums with her trio, the Pistol Annies, as well as 2021’s The Marfa Tapes, a critically acclaimed, raw and intimate recording with collaborators Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.

The most decorated artist in the history of the Academy of Country Music, Lambert has earned 37 ACM Awards (including the current ACM Entertainer of the Year title and a record-setting nine consecutive Female Artist of the Year Awards), 14 CMA Awards, three GRAMMY Awards, the Nashville Symphony Harmony Award, ACM Gene Weed Milestone Award and ACM Song of the Decade Award, plus was named 2019’s RIAA Artist of the Year. She is the youngest artist ever to serve as the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum’s Artist in Residence, joining a legendary list of predecessors including Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark, Tom T. Hall, Jerry Douglas and more.

SiriusXM Launches New Freakonomics Radio Network Streaming Channel

0

SiriusXM today announced the launch of a new Freakonomics Radio Network streaming channel. For this channel, the first to be dedicated to a podcast, the team behind Freakonomics Radio, one of the most enduring and popular podcasts in the world, will curate and present episodes from its deep archive, along with selections from other popular shows on the Freakonomics Radio Network, including No Stupid Questions, People I (Mostly) Admire, Freakonomics, M.D., and new programs to be launched later this year.

The Freakonomics Radio Network streaming channel is available to subscribers now on the SXM App at siriusxm.us/FreakonomicsRadioNetwork.

For over a decade, Freakonomics Radio has delivered storytelling and reporting that is both rigorous and entertaining. Hosted by Stephen J. Dubner, the show takes a curious-minded, data-driven approach to exploring real-world behavior and uncovering “the hidden side of everything.” Entering its twelfth year as one of the biggest podcasts on the planet, Freakonomics Radio is now growing faster than it ever has before, setting a listenership record in 2021.

SiriusXM’s Freakonomics Radio Network channel is the only place where listeners can tune in 24/7 to hear not only the latest episodes of Freakonomics Radio, but also a selection of provocative classics from the show’s 500-episode archive, like “Abortion and Crime, Revisited,” “The Economics of Sleep,” and “The Stupidest Thing You Can Do with Your Money.”

“The SiriusXM audience is amazingly large and diverse,” said Stephen Dubner, “and we can’t wait to get our stuff in their ears.”

“It’s exciting to be able to take a show as groundbreaking and successful as Freakonomics Radio and give listeners, new and old, an entirely unique way to experience it,” said Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer. “We can’t think of a better partner to launch this first-of-its-kind streaming channel with than Stephen and his team.”

In addition to its flagship show, the Freakonomics Radio Network produces some of the most listened-to podcasts — for a combined reach of over 160 million listeners last year. They include No Stupid Questions, where Dubner and co-host psychologist Angela Duckworth explore the weird and wonderful ways in which humans behave; People I (Mostly) Admire, in which the unorthodox economist Steven Levitt speaks with other high achievers to ask questions that only he would think to ask; and Freakonomics, M.D., hosted by Bapu Jena, an economist and physician who explores the intersection of economics and healthcare.

The Freakonomics Radio Network channel is just the latest example of SiriusXM’s commitment to providing multiple platforms for audio creators. Recently, the hosts of the award-winning horror comedy podcast Last Podcast on the Left launched Open Lines, a live weekly call-in show on SiriusXM’s Faction Talk (channel 103) after bringing their podcast back to wide distribution through Stitcher; and the popular advice expert, host, and digital creator Tinx launched the It’s Me, Tinx Live radio show on SiriusXM Stars (channel 109) following the launch of her chart-topping Stitcher podcast It’s Me, Tinx.

Bruce Hornsby Returns With New Album “‘Flicted” On May 27, 2022

0

‘Flicted, the new studio album from award-winning pianist, singer and songwriter Bruce Hornsby, is set for release on May 27 via his own Zappo Productions/Thirty Tigers. Recorded last summer, the new record is the follow up to Hornsby’s acclaimed albums, Absolute Zero and Non-Secure Connection.

In celebration of the forthcoming record, the album’s lead single “Sidelines,” featuring a duet with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend and Blake Mills on guitar throughout, debuts today alongside an accompanying video. Co-written by Mills and co-produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, Hornsby says, “‘Sidelines’ is a song about hysteria in various forms, starting with the Salem witch trials of the 1600’s then to the present-day pandemic-era panic. It features angular melodic content vocally and a pointillistic middle instrumental section.” Listen to/share it HERE and watch/share the video HERE.

Of the video, director Kitty Ninon Anais Faingold recalls, “I wanted the video to read like visual poetry by using allegorical imagery and a stream of consciousness method of working. I also wanted to give it a hand-crafted feel to emphasize the sensitivity of the song and vulnerability of the lyrics, so I worked with watercolors on thin computer paper which I then took photos of. This gave the animation a lot of texture and a level of DIY analogue imperfection which I think works well with the idea of vulnerability and human emotion.”

‘Flicted completes a trilogy of song collections (Absolute Zero and Non-Secure Connection) based on film “cues” Hornsby composed for writer and director Spike Lee. This unique approach enables him to build upon and explore new stylistic techniques while collaborating with a wide variety of talented artists. On ‘Flicted, Hornsby’s goal was to make a more upbeat record overall, speaking on COVID-19 using the world of science as a recurring influence.

“The album title ‘Flicted relates to this strange time in which we live, when the world is basically, well, ‘flicted,” adds Hornsby.

Co-produced by Hornsby and Tony Berg, the 12-track album features additional production work from Rechtshaid and Wayne Pooley. ‘Flicted also features a duet with Danielle Haim on the pandemic shut-down era piece “Days Ahead” as well as further contributions from Rob Moose who provided several arrangements and performances individually and as a member of yMusic. The record also includes a re-imagining of Chuck Berry’s “Too Much Monkey Business,” marking the first cover song to ever appear on Hornsby’s studio releases.

In addition, Hornsby and his band the Noisemakers will embark on an extensive run of 2022 tour dates. Kicking off on March 26, the tour includes performances at Los Angeles’ Troubadour, Chicago’s Athenaeum Theatre and Cincinnati’s Taft Theatre as well as appearances at the Elkhart Jazz Fest, Rocky Mountain Folk Festival, Strings Music Festival and more. Further 2022 dates will be announced soon, while the current tour routing can be found below.

Based out of Williamsburg, VA, Hornsby first rose to national prominence with The Way It Is, his 1986 Grammy-winning debut album with The Range. The title track became the most-played song on American radio in 1987 while Tupac Shakur’s timeless song “Changes” builds on “The Way It Is” and set the stage for many subsequent versions of the track, including Polo G’s recent single “Wishing For A Hero.” In 1991, Hornsby collaborated with Bonnie Raitt, playing on her iconic hit “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Additionally, Hornsby was a part-time member of the Grateful Dead from September 1990 to March 1992, performing over 100 concerts in America and Europe. In 2019, Hornsby co-wrote “U (Man Like)” with Justin Vernon for the latest Bon Iver album i,i. Hornsby has also written six full film scores for Spike Lee including his recent Netflix series “She’s Gotta Have It,” and contributed music to five others, including 2021’s NYC Epicenters 9/11→2021½.

The 13-time Grammy nominee has solidified his status as a highly sought-after collaborator. Hornsby’s own 23 albums have sold over 11 million copies worldwide, and he has appeared on over 100 records including releases with Bob Dylan, Don Henley, the Grateful Dead, Stevie Nicks, Ricky Skaggs, Bob Seger, Chaka Khan, Brandon Flowers, Bonnie Raitt, Sting, Mavis Staples, Willie Nelson and more.

Five Finger Death Punch Drop New Single “Afterlife” And Announce 2022 North American Headlining Tour

0

multi-platinum hard rock powerhouse Five Finger Death Punch released “AfterLife,” the title track from their highly anticipated forthcoming new studio album. The band’s longtime collaborator Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Papa Roach, Skillet) helmed the producer duties of the ninth and arguably most diverse record of the band.

The track’s release coincides with the band’s announcement today of their upcoming 2022 North American headlining tour presented by Live Nation, kicking off in Portland, Oregon on August 19th. The tour will span over 30 dates, closing out on October 15 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The band will be joined on tour by rock icons Megadeth, with additional support from The HU, and Fire From The Gods, promising an intense multi-faceted night of heavy rock music.

Today’s announcement is just the beginning, as the band is also slated to announce additional tour dates next week. They encourage fans to stay tuned in on their social channels for more information.

One of the most successful rock acts in modern music, Five Finger Death Punch have been hard at work in the studio over the past year writing and recording the follow-up to their 2020 album F8. The album, produced by Kevin Churko, debuted at #1 on Rock charts around the world with top 10 mainstream chart debuts in the USA, Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and more. It produced four #1 hit singles with “Inside Out,” “A Little Bit Off,” “Living The Dream,” and “Darkness Settles In,” the latter of which saw the band tie the record for most consecutive #1’s on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart with seven chart-toppers in-a-row with Disturbed. The band has amassed over 8 billion streams and 3 billion video views to date and have sold over one million tickets between 2018 and 2020 alone.

5FDP is also venturing into the film space, with their appearance in the upcoming horror-thriller film THE RETALIATORS, a Better Noise Films production, which is set for a fall 2022 theatrical and streaming release. The band appears both onscreen and on the film’s original soundtrack, alongside some of the biggest names in rock: Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee, Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, From Ashes to New, The HU, All Good Things, and more. This past August, the movie had its WORLD PREMIERE at Arrow Video FrightFest in London. Its North American premiere took place at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles as the OPENING NIGHT film for ScreamFest, where the production took home an award for Best Make-Up and earned itself rave reviews, with a rare rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which it still maintains today.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have amassed 25 top 10 hit singles and 12 #1 singles. Having become one of the most recognizable names in music, 5FDP frequently play all major festivals and sell out arenas around the world. Since their debut album, The Way of the Fist came out in 2007 the band has released seven consecutive albums that were certified Gold or Platinum by the RIAA, as well as two chart topping Greatest Hits albums. Twitter Adopts Limited Duration Shareholder Rights Plan, Enabling All Shareholders to Realize Full Value of Company

0

Twitter, Inc. announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously adopted a limited duration shareholder rights plan (the “Rights Plan”). The Board adopted the Rights Plan following an unsolicited, non-binding proposal to acquire Twitter.

The Rights Plan is intended to enable all shareholders to realize the full value of their investment in Twitter. The Rights Plan will reduce the likelihood that any entity, person or group gains control of Twitter through open market accumulation without paying all shareholders an appropriate control premium or without providing the Board sufficient time to make informed judgments and take actions that are in the best interests of shareholders.

The Rights Plan does not prevent the Board from engaging with parties or accepting an acquisition proposal if the Board believes that it is in the best interests of Twitter and its shareholders.

The Rights Plan is similar to other plans adopted by publicly held companies in comparable circumstances. Under the Rights Plan, the rights will become exercisable if an entity, person or group acquires beneficial ownership of 15% or more of Twitter’s outstanding common stock in a transaction not approved by the Board. In the event that the rights become exercisable due to the triggering ownership threshold being crossed, each right will entitle its holder (other than the person, entity or group triggering the Rights Plan, whose rights will become void and will not be exercisable) to purchase, at the then-current exercise price, additional shares of common stock having a then-current market value of twice the exercise price of the right.

The Rights Plan will expire on April 14, 2023.

Additional information regarding the Rights Plan will be contained in a Form 8-K to be filed by Twitter with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
