3x GRAMMY Award-winning, RIAA multi-platinum certified artist Lizzo is fresh off the release of her anthemic new single “About Damn Time,” available now via Nice Life Recording Company/Atlantic Records. Now, the superstar is continuing the launch of her new era by announcing The Special Tour; extensive North American arena dates with support from special guest, Atlanta rapper Latto. Produced by Live Nation, the tour kicks off on September 23rd in Sunrise, FL and runs through November with stops including New York City on October 2nd and Los Angeles on November 18th, full routing is available below.

New single “About Damn Time” heralds Lizzo’s highly-anticipated upcoming album SPECIAL, due July 15th with pre-orders available now HERE. Lizzo has already had a packed 2022 with a double duty hosting and performance gig on Saturday Night Live, and visits to NBC’s The TODAY Show and CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden, the latter of which saw Lizzo teasing “About Damn Time” by giving fans an exclusive first listen (watch HERE), followed by an “80s v Today Dance Bop Riff-Off” (watch HERE). Lizzo can also currently be seen in Amazon Prime Video’s #1 reality show, Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls, streaming now exclusively via Prime Video.

Lizzo recently added “fashion entrepreneur” to her multi-hyphenate career by joining forces with parent company Fabletics, Inc. for the launch of her revolutionary new shapewear brand, YITTY. Named after her childhood moniker and based on the principles of self-love, radical inner confidence, and effortless, everyday wear, the game-changing, size-inclusive brand marks an industry first: no-shame, smile-inducing shapewear designed for all body types, with sizes ranging from size 6X to XS. A 3x GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, rapper, actress, and so much more, Lizzo has shifted the sound, soul, and spirit of popular music and culture. 2019’s now-classic, RIAA platinum certified debut album, CUZ I LOVE YOU, bowed at #4 on the Billboard 200, fueled in part by such history-making hits as the platinum certified “Tempo (Feat. Missy Elliott),” the 2x platinum “Juice,” the 4x platinum “Good As Hell,” and the 7x platinum “Truth Hurts.” The latter of which ascended to #1 on Billboard’s “Hot 100,” affirming Lizzo as only the third female rapper to top the chart without a featured artist, as well as the first black solo female R&B singer to claim the top spot since 2012. “Truth Hurts” dominated the chart for seven weeks, further making history as the longest running #1 by a solo female rap artist ever. Named by Rolling Stone as one of the “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time,” “Truth Hurts” went on to earn a 2020 GRAMMY® Award for “Best Pop Solo Performance,” with CUZ I LOVE YOU (DELUXE) receiving that year’s GRAMMY® for “Best Urban Contemporary Album” and “Jerome” earning “Best Traditional R&B Performance.”

Crowned 2019’s “Entertainer of the Year” by both TIME and Entertainment Weekly, Lizzo has adorned the covers of countless publications around the globe, spanning Rolling Stone, Billboard, Elle, British Vogue, and many more. Among her many unforgettable TV appearances, Lizzo has lit up the stage at the American Music Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, the BET Awards, Saturday Night Live, and an epic opening performance at the GRAMMYs, to name just a few. Expanding her imprint and influence across media, Lizzo lent her voice to the 2019 animated film,UglyDolls, and joined Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, and Cardi B in the all-star cast of that same year’s critically acclaimed Hustlers.

Lizzo maintained this unstoppable momentum on 2021’s RIAA gold certified “Rumors (Feat. Cardi B)” and is now set to create her biggest, boldest, and brightest revolution thus far with her massively anticipated second full-length offering SPECIAL for Nice Life Recording Company/Atlantic Records, due July 15th.

Journey Set To Release First Studio Album Of All New Songs In Over A Decade

1

As one of the world’s most beloved rock bands, Journey continues to create new music and thrill audiences night after night in sold out arenas worldwide in conjunction with AEG as their promoter.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, Journey have 25 gold and platinum albums, including the fifteen-million selling Greatest Hits collection, with total sales adding up to 80 million records around the world.

Emerging from the pandemic with a supercharged new studio line-up, today, the members of Journey unleash the first single “You Got The Best Of Me” off their forthcoming studio album, Freedom – due out July 8.

“You Got The Best Of Me” will be followed this summer by an epic, fifteen-track set of new original songs that brings back the grand scale of the group’s greatest moments, along with updated and bold new directions and sounds.

“I wanted kind of a punky rendition of ‘Any Way You Want It’”, says the group’s founding member, guitarist, songwriter, and producer Neal Schon about the single. “I usually don’t go in saying I’m going to look for something like that, but then it just came to me, like “Wheel in the Sky” did years ago. It just kind of flew out of my mouth.”

While the forthcoming album was made with visions of arena and stadium stages, it started from humble beginnings. In 2020, as COVID swept the globe, Schon was stuck at home like the rest of us. “During the pandemic, there wasn’t much to do,” he says. “I spent a lot of time in my little studio at home, learning how to play keyboards and looping. Some of those ideas ended up being songs. So it kind of came out of nowhere.”

As the band’s legend continues to grow larger and their touring gets bigger, Freedom will be the first album of new material to be released in eleven years, since 2011’s Eclipse, and in addition to longtime keyboard player and primary lyricist Jonathan Cain and vocalist Arnel Pineda, one more member was recruited for the upcoming album — bassist extraordinaire Randy Jackson, who had played on Journey’s 1986 album Raised on Radio.

Success of exhibit secures trust of The Rolling Stones and a second Canadian stop of UNZIPPED

0

After a successful run, November 2021-April 2022 at THEMUSEUM in Kitchener, Ontario, originally intended to be the only Canadian stop on The Rolling Stones | UNZIPPED international tour, THEMUSEUM has good news for Rolling Stones fans across the country. THEMUSEUM has secured the Canadian rights to UNZIPPED and the confidence of The Rolling Stones management to bring the world-class exhibition to Winnipeg this Spring.

The Rolling Stones | UNZIPPED will be on display at Expo Live! at Portage Place in Winnipeg from June 11 to July 31 before returning home to London, England to celebrate the band’s 60th anniversary.

Following engagements in major centres including London, New York, Sydney and Tokyo, THEMUSEUM demonstrated tenacity in the race among other major Canadian cities to secure UNZIPPED as its largest exhibition to date. Over the last four months, the 10,000 sq ft exhibition transformed THEMUSEUM and provided a once in a lifetime opportunity for Canadian fans and visitors.

As the first international exhibition by and about The Rolling Stones, UNZIPPED provides visitors with the opportunity to relive the cultural phenomenon of the world’s greatest rock band and experience their legacy as the band that built rock and roll. The exhibition boasts more than 300 original objects from the Stones’ personal collection, including a realistic reconstruction of their Chelsea flat ‘Edith Grove.’ Along with instruments and stage designs, rare audio fragments, video footage, personal diaries, iconic costumes, posters, and album covers, the exhibition concludes with a mind-blowing three-dimensional Rolling Stones concert for visitors to experience.

As the band celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2022, the honour to continue hosting the exhibition in Canada is even greater. With 60 years of history displayed throughout the exhibition, The Rolling Stones have entrusted Canadian audiences with a backstage pass into the world famous rock band’s fascinating journey.

The immersive experience of UNZIPPED didn’t stop with the exhibition on display in Downtown Kitchener. THEMUSEUM’S curation of The Ronnie Wood Art Exhibition, located in the heart of Uptown Waterloo during UNZIPPED’s run, brought a wide range of artwork that spanned the artist’s talented career. The art exhibition included approximately 50 original works of art, featuring a combination of original works, prints, and setlist works. Original artwork, along with signed prints and setlists were available for purchase, allowing Kitchener-Waterloo residents and visitors to take a little piece of The Stones history home with them.

THEMUSEUM is incredibly grateful to the community, and accredits its proud sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and community members for making the Canadian debut of UNZIPPED a massive success. The community support brought forth by the Region of Waterloo, festival partners, The Fashion History Museum, Princess Cinemas and Kitchener Musical Society Band and the Kitchener BIA along with numerous bars, hotels and restaurants also played a critical role in making “The Year of The Rolling Stones” in Waterloo Region one to never forget.

Musician & Broadcaster DANNY MARKS Spotlights Radio’s Enduring Power to Connect With “Man on the Radio” Single

0

Whether we’re alone or in a crowd, listening to the radio has always felt like a one-on-one experience. It seems like the DJ is talking directly to us. It’s where many of us have formed unique, personal connections with the songs we’ve heard as if they’re our own personal playlist. As a broadcaster himself, Danny Marks knows the power of radio very well. And as a lifelong musician and singer-songwriter, he’s celebrating radio’s enduring influence with his new single, “Man on the Radio.”

“Radio has come up big to reach people at home and heart in trying times, an intimate connection that reaches around the globe,” says Marks. “‘’Man On The Radio’ comes from this place.”

Soulful, smooth, country-tinged blues with a heartfelt, nostalgic tone, “Man on the Radio” is Danny Marks’ story about his love and reverence for a music medium that has been a cherished part of his life from childhood to today. The single advances a new album by Marks called Lifeline, due out this summer.

Take my hand, understand I’m the man on the radio.
You’re just in time for the show and I wouldn’t start without you.
One by one, that’s how it’s done. We’ll have fun together.
You and me – the sweet frequency.
Good company, whatever the weather.
I’m the man on the radio.

For over 100 years, radio has been our good company through trying times and good times alike. For Marks, the Toronto-born and raised music maker and connoisseur, radio is an inter-generational phenomenon; radio is truly in his blood.

“Radio reached my Dad in the 1920’s from the Cotton Club, Grand Ole Opry, and beyond,” recalls Marks. “Dad would get a crystal set, in the 1920s, and listen to the Cotton Club with Cab Calloway. He passed along that love to us, with a shortwave radio and the art of radio.”

As a kid, Marks would fantasize about hosting his own radio show when he wasn’t obsessing over his love of the guitar.

“When I was twelve years old, I was part of a radio play at the national broadcaster, CBC,” he remembers. “They had crinkled up stuff to make it sound like a fire, coconut shells for the horses’ hooves, A little funny door on a platform to open and close. We gathered around the mic and the performers had their arms around each other’s shoulders. I’d been to drama school, but radio – it seemed so intimate. Being on that side of the mic – I always wanted to.”

The guitar Marks got when he was 11 and the lessons he took afterward were his first steps toward musical success in Canada and the U.S. as a founding member of late ‘60s / early ‘70s pop-rock band Edward Bear, signed to Capitol Records. However, his love for “being on that side of the mic” also led to success on the airwaves in a different way. He became ‘the man on the radio’.

In 1987, Marks was discovered by CBC radio producer David Malahoff and was put on to a show called “Basic Black” with Arthur Black and Shelagh Rogers. That was Marks’ learning ground throughout the ‘90s before being offered his own show on Toronto’s CJRT FM, which became JAZZFM91. For over 20 years, Marks has hosted the BLUZ.FM show, a Saturday night oasis of “all the colours of the blues” including one hour of “Beyond the Fringe” global music.

For Marks, hosting a radio show is quite parallel with playing a live performance.

“The idea that you can tell a story through a succession of songs on the radio, is not unlike how I would work a set at my performances,” explains Marks. “It’s so beautiful to hear one song dovetail into another and the mood shift. What you look for in joining music to tell a story.”

And in this age of digital streaming and playlisting, radio’s story is still a never-ending one for Marks and many others. “In the 21st Century, radio’s days are far from gone.”

Graham Nash Announces Live Album Out May 6

0

Two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and founding member of both the Hollies and Crosby, Stills & Nash, Graham Nash will release his new album Graham Nash: Live on May 6 via Proper Records. The record features Nash performing his first two critically acclaimed solo albums, Songs For Beginners and Wild Tales, in their entirety, recorded on tour in the Northeastern U.S. in September, 2019.

In celebration of the forthcoming release, Nash is debuting the live version of his classic song “Military Madness.”

Nash’s career as a solo artist took flight in 1971, with these two seminal albums showcasing the depths of his abilities as a singer and songwriter. His solo debut Songs For Beginners includes the hits “Simple Man,” “Chicago/We Can Change the World” and “Military Madness,” and Wild Tales, released in 1974, features “Prison Song,” “Oh! Camil” and “You’ll Never Be the Same.” While the songs on these albums are largely autobiographical—dissecting Nash’s relationship and subsequent breakup with Joni Mitchell, recalling his 3,000-mile sea voyage with David Crosby from Florida to San Francisco by way of the Panama Canal, and remembering his parents—they also show the depth and breadth of Nash’s songwriting and storytelling, chronicling society’s frayed edges during the Vietnam era, championing the defense of free speech, calling for prison reform as well as political reform and more.

“I’ve been trying to figure out why Songs For Beginners and Wild Tales [were] so popular and I think it’s that intimacy and that immediacy of my emotions,” explains Nash. He goes on to note, “We’re supposed to learn from history and it doesn’t appear as if we’re learning much. Songs like ‘Military Madness’…is that not relevant today? The hope that we can change the world, isn’t that still relevant today? I’m very flattered that my music seems to have lasted this long, but I’m also a little upset that we have to keep singing a song like ‘Military Madness’ right up to the present. Enough already!”

In celebration of the forthcoming record, Nash is touring the U.S. throughout 2022 accompanied by longtime collaborator and This Path Tonight (Nash’s 2016 solo album) producer Shane Fontayne on guitars and vocals, and former CSN keyboard player and vocalist Todd Caldwell. Nash and friends will perform songs from his days in the Hollies through his years with Crosby, Stills & Nash and from his beloved solo recordings, weaving anecdotes and tales from his 50-year career throughout the evening. See below for a list of upcoming dates; tickets are available at grahamnash.com.

In addition to his two Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions (with Crosby, Stills & Nash and the Hollies), he was inducted twice into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as well—as a solo artist and with CSN—and he is also a Grammy Award winner. Towering above virtually everything that Graham Nash has accomplished in his multifaceted career stands the litany of songs that he has written and introduced to the soundtrack of the past half century. His remarkable body of work, beginning with his contributions to the Hollies catalog, continues all the way to This Path Tonight (2016), his most recent solo album.

His passionate voice has long been heard in support of peace and social and environmental justice. The No Nukes/Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) concerts he organized with Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt in 1979 remain seminal benefit events. In September 2013, Nash released his long-awaited autobiography Wild Tales, which landed him on the New York Times Best Sellers list. In recognition for his contributions as a musician and philanthropist, Nash was appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II. While continually building his musical legacy, Nash is also an internationally renowned photographer and visual artist whose work has been shown in galleries and museums worldwide, and his photography has drawn honors including the New York Institute of Technology’s Arts & Technology Medal, an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, and the Hollywood Film Festival’s inaugural Hollywood Visionary Cyber Award. Most recently Nash released A Life In Focus: The Photography Of Graham Nash (via Insight Editions), in which he reflects on more than fifty years of an extraordinary life in an extensive collection of personal photographs and artistic stills.

Crowded House Announce 2022 North American Tour

0

Today, iconic multi-platinum selling band CROWDED HOUSE officially announced their highly anticipated North American tour that follows on the heels of both sold-out Australian and European legs of the tour along with their seventh studio album Dreamers Are Waiting. The new music as well as the tour features founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour along with producer and keyboardist Mitchell Froom, guitarist and singer Liam Finn and drummer Elroy Finn.

“Crowded House are delighted at long last to be able to play shows in North America. We have been picking up the pace recently as the world opens up and can’t wait present the show with this band lineup in absolute top form to the good folk of North America, from sea to shining sea,” said Neil Finn.

Crowded House is a long standing and much-loved vehicle for the song writing talents of Neil Finn. Formed in Melbourne Australia in 1985 out the ashes of New Zealand’s Split Enz by Neil, Paul Hester and Nick Seymour, their eponymous self-titled debut album on Capitol Records went on to global success with the hits “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Something So Strong”. Those songs and many that followed are still resonating with audiences today, the former in particular being one of the most covered songs of the last 20 years. The band’s first incarnation lasted from 1985 through 1996 with 4 studio albums and enjoyed much success worldwide, becoming particularly beloved for their freewheeling and interactive live shows. This lineup said Farewell to the World on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in 1996 with a now legendary performance in front of 150,000 people.

In 2007 following the tragic death of Paul Hester, Neil and Nick felt emotionally compelled to bring Crowded House back, to put some more good history, as they described it, into the story of the band. Drafting in new drummer Matt Sherrod and with long time touring member Mark Hart they released the album “Time On Earth” to critical acclaim and toured the world. Another album, ‘Intriguer”, was recorded in 2009 and Crowded House was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2016, at the same time reprising its Farewell shows at the Sydney Opera House with 4 nights of stunning performances.

North By Northeast Music Festival Puts Focus Into The Clubs June 14-19, 2022

0

The festival with a capital ’N’, as in Next to discover the best bands before they break through is back; North by Northeast (NXNE) is officially starting to unveil its 2022 plans right as the sun starts to warm our souls.

Taking place in the nation’s entertainment mecca that is Toronto, Canada’s quintessential annual cultural explosion featuring music and more is set to span June 14th – 19th and feature more than 300 of the world’s best artists of today — and tomorrow.

Case in point? NXNE had Grimes, Lumineers, Daniel Caesar, Run The Jewels, The Weather Station, Sarah Harmer, Metz, Sarah Harmer, the Arkells, Sam Roberts, Lizzo, Future Islands, Vince Staples, Billy Talent, Post Malone, Feist, and thousands more on stages as part of the festival… All before they became household names.

“We’re back and taking over more than 20 of Toronto’s top live music venues,” NXNE Founder and President Michael Hollett reveals. “We want to make it very easy for people to come back to live music and experience stage-hopping like festivals used to be.”

NXNE makes great music accessible and inclusive to all, no artists are asked to pay to apply to play, all performers are paid, and admission to Club Shows in 2022 is low cost or free.

A preview of the forthcoming roster will be announced on May 4th, and passes are available for sale today, Tuesday, April 26.

Speaking of which, full festival five-day passes are $20 — an inflation-defying $9.99 less than they were in 1995 when NXNE launched. “That’s actually cheaper than when it first started,” Hollett notes. “Especially given the pummelling the live music scene has taken over the last two years, we committed to removing financial barriers to NXNE to best connect artists with audiences; even for artists, it’s free to submit and they get paid to play.

“We have had an incredible response to our submission process and can’t wait to present these great acts to the world,” Hollett continues. “It’s time to experience live music again – and listen to the future at NXNE.”

The festival is committed to gender equity and BIPOC representation boasting a diverse line up that reflects the festival’s core theme “Talent is Everywhere.”

NXNE is proud to work with their supporting partners of this year’s festival including Slaight Music, Indie88, Gladstone House, Steam Whistle, Bulova, Long & McQuade, Yamaha, Exclaim, Grassroots, along with showcase sponsors KW TheMuseum, The City of Brampton, Music Manitoba, and WKBO The Bridge – with funding made possible by FACTOR, Canada Summer Jobs.

NXNE will take place Tuesday, June 14th – Sunday, June 19th in Toronto.

Massey Hall is pleased to announce An Evening with Emmylou Harris & The Jayhawks on Monday, August 15, 2022. This show replaces the postponed An Evening with Emmylou Harris & Patty Griffin as Patty Griffin is unfortunately no longer performing as part of this show.

Current ticket holders to this postponed event will be honoured for the new date.

A 14-time GRAMMY winner and Billboard Century Award recipient, Emmylou Harris’ contribution as a singer and songwriter spans 40 years. She has recorded more than 25 albums and has lent her talents to countless fellow artists’ recordings. In recognition of her remarkable career, Harris was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008 and earned a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 2018.

Massey Hall is excited to announce the return of The Jayhawks to its iconic stage for what promises to be a special evening of live music. The Jayhawks and their rootsy sound were definitely swimming against the tide when they emerged from a crowded Minnesota music scene in 1985. Over the course of almost 4 decades, 11 albums, and countless memorable live shows, this beloved band soared to heights few ever achieve while winning the hearts and minds of numerous critics, fans and peers in the process.
