Country Artist Leanne Pearson Pays Ode to Sassy Cats Everywhere with Fun, Folky “Caturday”

0

Multi-award winning and chart-rising Canadian singer/songwriter Leanne Pearson pays tribute to the much-loved furry, four-legged friends that bring simplicity and joy to complicated modern lives with the release of her new single, “Caturday” — available now.

Whether it’s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or whatever… Every day is “Caturday” in Pearson’s lyrically layered world. Fun and folky with acoustic guitar and upbeat, lilting vocals, the sweet song about the special relationship is sung from the perspective of the cat-as-narrator.

Like any cat you could possibly know, this one is a bit of a smartass. Oh, and as a cat, it’s your right to follow your human into the bathroom, too — no place is off limits.

I may have four legs
But I got a brain
I could say it over and over again
While I lounge blocking your computer screen
Anywhere you look, I’m in between
None of your emails make sense
Because I walked all over them

Proudly describing herself as an ‘independent Canadian country girl,’ Leanne Pearson took home the award for both Music Video of the Year for her song “Hot Pursuit,” and Album of the Year for her 12-track release, Pull It Off, at the 2019 Manitoba Country Music Awards, as well as Female Artist of The Year at the 2018 awards.

She’s had four Top 100 songs on Canadian Country Radio, with one of her first, “Get Outta My Heart,” hitting the Top 50.

In 2019, Leanne and her music were featured on an episode of the HGTV show, Property Brothers; the entire episode features Leanne and her now husband, Jordan, buying and renovating their home.

“Caturday” is available now.

Indigenous Blues Singer/Songwriter DONITA LARGE Hails the Power of Her Lineage in “Ancestors in My Bones”

0

In light of a person’s lineage playing a strong role in the choices they make and the person they become, Indigenous blues singer/songwriter Donita Large pays tribute to the power of her heritage in this, her new single “Ancestors in My Bones” — available now.

“When in circle and we pray, an Elder will say, ‘Pray in your own way. All beliefs are respected in the circle,’” Donita shares of the song that is certain to speak to those who feel an ancestral connection around the globe. “I want my listeners to know that this prayer is shared with the same intention.”

The song begins with full, reverberating drum beats — the kind you can feel down in your bones — and a Cree prayer, recited by Donita’s own father Frank. A rattle begins its pebbly, rhythmic shake, and then rich guitar; Donita’s voice is soulful and crystal clear, calling on the power of those who came before her.

I feel the ancestors in my bones
They’re calling me to protect my home
Mother Earth is crying for us to atone
I cannot do this alone

The lyrics then take a journey from the individual experience to the universal, as Donita asks her listeners, “Do you feel the ancestors in your bones? Are they calling you to protect your home?”

It’s a message that struck Donita almost like lightning as she was heading home many years ago from a voice-intensive workshop in Banff, Alberta. A phrase had stuck with her: “I feel the ancestors in my bones,” which was something she had shared with the group during one of the sessions. She recalls immediately pulling over to the side of the road to scribble down the lyrics.

For years, she sang the song accompanied by a hand drum or a rattle, as a means to honor the stories of her Cree and Métis ancestors at events. Still, she felt it needed more for its recording.

Following an introduction to award-winning producer Chris Birkett, well-known for having produced five of singer/songwriter and activist Buffy Sainte-Marie’s albums, Birkett soon presented Donita with a master of “Ancestors in My Bones” less than two months later.

“I had tears streaming down my face when I heard it for the first time,” Donita shares. “All I could say was, ‘nailed it!’”

“Ancestors in My Bones” follows Donita’s debut single, “Going To Walk That Line;” released this past summer, and produced by Cindy Paul, the song soared to hit #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown — a rare case for a new artist, and telling of Donita’s inimitable talent.

“Ancestors in My Bones” is available now.

The world’s leading music video network announces video of the year

• The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears” saw 615M global views
• The U.S. Top Ten welcomed multiple newcomers for 2021 to the list such as Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, and Polo G
• The Global Top Ten list featured a diverse list of artists of multiple genres, languages, and locations, including Karol G, Justin Bieber, and J Balvin

NEW YORK (December 13, 2021) – Vevo, the world’s leading music video network, today released part two of its annual year-end look back on music video viewership, highlighting the top music videos of the year globally and in the U.S.

Both worldwide and in the U.S., The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears” tops the list with 615M views globally, and 102.9M views in the U.S. Released at the top of the year, “Save Your Tears” popularity was fueled by The Weeknd’s massively successful Superbowl performance, a slew of Billboard Music Awards, Juno Awards, and BRIT Awards wins and more, resulting in a standout year for the star.

In Vevo’s Global Top Ten Videos list, the #2 slot is “EL MAKINON” by Latin powerhouses Karol G and Mariah Angeliq with 556M views. The Black Eyed Peas and Shakira’s hit, “Girl Like Me,” is #3 at 519M views, and Justin Bieber’s “Peaches” featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon with 442M views at #4. Lil Nas X’s “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” with 402M views takes 5th place.

In the U.S., The Weeknd is followed closely by Lil Baby’s “On Me.” Lil Baby is Vevo’s most-viewed artist of this past year (770 million views).

Vevo’s U.S. Top Viewed Videos chart is filled with first-timers to the list, including Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, Polo G, and Coi Leray with Lil Durk. Newcomer Olivia Rodrigo took two slots in the U.S. chart, with both “drivers license” (79.9M) and “good 4 u” (64.8M) taking the 6th and 7th spots respectively. In data published by Vevo last week, it was found that Rodrigo has grown her total video catalog viewership 8x to 357 million total views in the U.S. in 2021, after breaking into the mainstream with her debut album, SOUR.

“Every year, we really look forward to publishing our Most Viewed Videos of 2021. As the global music video destination for artists of all genres and career stages, it’s really exciting to see which videos resonated at scale and made an impact this year with our audience. The Weeknd has had a standout year, topping our Global and U.S. charts with ‘Save Your Tears.’ The must-watch video is a perfect example of Abel’s creativity as he pushes boundaries and made something truly groundbreaking for his fans.

“From established names like Lil Baby and Karol G to the next generation of stars like Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo, we have seen artists push the boundaries of creativity and storytelling and our audiences have consumed these across a range of screens across our network.

“Additionally, Vevo had the opportunity to collaborate closely with a number of these top-charting artists for our originals, creating some additional great visual content which was enjoyed and viewed in high volumes throughout the year,” said JP Evangelista, SVP of Content, Programming and Marketing, Vevo.

Primus Pays Tribute To Rush In 46-date extension of its wildly popular ‘A Tribute To Kings’ Tour

0

Primus has announced an extensive, 46-date, coast-to-coast extension of its wildly popular ‘A Tribute To Kings’ Tour, paying homage to prog-rock legends, Rush. ‘A Tribute To Kings’ will find the Bay area trio performing Rush’s 1977 album ‘A Farewell To Kings’ in its entirety, following a set of their own music. As bassist Les Claypool told Rolling Stone, the tour is about paying tribute to a band that has given him so much inspiration over the years.

“Hemispheres was my first concert,” Claypool said, referring to Rush’s 1978 album and tour. “Originally we’d always kind of joked around about doing Hemispheres…but we settled on Kings, because A) it was the first Rush record I ever heard and B) it contains ‘Cygnus X-1,’ which has always been my favorite Rush tune. It seems to be a good one for us to tackle; 2112 seemed a little obvious.”

The announcement follows the massive success of the first leg of ‘A Tribute To Kings,’ which was long-delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s just the latest in a long series of Rush-related milestones for Primus, who first opened for their musical heroes in 1992.

“Geddy, Alex and Neil had been superheroes to Larry, Herb and I in our teens,” Claypool recalled, “so when we all became pals while touring together in the early ’90s, we were pretty delighted; partially because of the musical geek-out factor but mostly because the three guys whom we had admired so much from afar, turned out to be truly great, down-to-earth humans, and like us, a tad eccentric.”

Kicking off in Oklahoma City before winding its way throughout the US, the second leg of ‘A Tribute To Kings’ will also include the tour’s first stops in Canada, beginning with two dates in Toronto on May 13-14. Rush was formed in Toronto in 1968. The second leg will also feature special guests Battles, Black Mountain, and The Black Angels.
