Back After 25 Years! Rockers BLU BONES Release Comeback Single, “She’s Got a Way With Love”

0

After more than 25 years apart, London, ON’s hard rock influencers, Blu Bones, have reunited to bring fans a colourful and rockin’ new single, “She’s Got a Way with Love” — available now.

The two-minute, 50 second-spanning rock song came to fruition after frontman Gord Prior decided it was time to address all the emails and social media tags he received from longtime fans “begging” for Blu Bones to either get back together or record something new, at least.

“Most of us never thought of reuniting or doing anything new musically after all of these years,” admitted Gord. “But because of social media, over the past decade, we’ve received so many emails from fans and friends we never knew we had — from all over the world.

Gord continued: “They’ve begged us to do something new for a long time. To reunite somehow. This song, this moment, it just felt right and the timing was perfect for everyone.”

“She’s Got a Way with Love” is heavily reminiscent of the esteemed band’s classic sound with a tasteful twinge of late 1970s-era Cheap Trick and modern-day Alice Cooper — yay for power pop goodness.

The unexpected comeback single is scheduled for a Feb. 14 release and will see the London-based band reunite in a fully-animated music video, created by the dedicated and talented team at Flikli Animation.

After privately seeking out animators through his personal Facebook page, Flikli’s long standing CEO, Rich Adkin, graciously raised his hand to help animate the brand-new tune. It only helped that Rich was a die-hard Blu Bones fan and had been since their beginnings in the early 1990s.

The trippy and dazzling project takes place in a magical world, where the members of Blu Bones seemingly never aged following their disbandment. Additionally, this world allows them to do absolutely anything that their creative imaginations allow.

“She’s Got a Way with Love” was mixed and recorded by the legendary Matty Green at Studio 55 in Los Angeles, California. Matty has not only worked with the likes of Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay, but Sir Paul McCartney as well.

Blu Bones is lead vocalist Gord Prior, guitarist Boris Novosel, bassist Barry Donaghy, drummer Steve Thomas and Ray Coburn on the keyboards.

Cosmic Balladeer MISTER K Is Prepared For Anything: Debut LP ‘In Event of Moon Disaster’ Is Available Now

0

Lorette West, MB’s folk-pop musician Kevin Roy Kratsch — known professionally as the cosmic Canadian balladeer that is Mister K — has just released his debut album, In Event of Moon Disaster, and single “Tamarack” — available now.

To celebrate, Mister K has recorded a live, acoustic rendition of the song from the comfort of his own backyard in the region of Lorette West. The powerful performance of “Tamarack” features the aspiring musician’s wife Avery on backup vocals and guitar — and their adorable bulldog Luna, for emotional support.

Mister K points out that one of the sonic “easter eggs” found in the new album comes from his little canine companion; every time the word “moon” is sung on In Event of Moon Disaster, Luna rings a bell.

“If you listen hard enough,” he adds.

Overall, In Event of Moon Disaster is described as a musical journey through highs and lows, or “a pendulum swung through the hardship of darker days” (like the song), according to Mister K. Inspired by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it’s ultimately about overcoming adversity, emerging from the darkness and finding the light at the end of the tunnel; or even some sense of hope.

“I knew I wanted to make an album steeped in poignant and vulnerable themes, but I wanted it to also have some pop and sparkle.”

The nine-track, 34 minute-spanning effort is reflective of the works of Neil Young and was written solely by Mister K and recorded at Paintbox Recording Studios in Winnipeg, MB. In terms of the genre and overall style found within In Event of Moon Disaster, Mister K calls himself a “cosmic folk-pop balladeer.”

The artist co-produced the record with the help of engineer Rusty Matyas (The Sheepdogs, Imaginary Cities); on the collaboration process with Rusty, Mister K said that they found inspiration and empowerment together through the strength of healing associated with music and art.

As well as his latest single: the two-minute, 15 second-spanning “Tamarack,” In Event of Moon Disaster features hits like “Hundreds of Dollars,” “Lonely One,” “Game of Hearts” and “Harmony.”

Canadian Matriarch of the Blues, Vancouver’s DALANNAH Pays Tribute In “Lullaby for the Missing and Murdered Women”

0

Canadian matriarch of the blues and veritable force of musical nature Dalannah Gail Bowen — known professionally as Dalannah — has just released her first piece of original music, since her 2019 album Looking Back; it’s called “Lullaby for the Missing and Murdered Women” and acts as a tribute to the many, many Indigenous women of the world who have gone missing and/or lost their lives to violence.

Even before hearing the tear-jerking five-minute, 20 second-spanning single, the listener is met with the powerful image of its accompanying artwork. A collage of 60 individual Indigenous women who unfortunately went missing; never to be heard from again.

Dalannah revealed she was inspired to write the song after working for the Missing and Murdered Women’s March. “I had witnessed the devastation and the impact that this experience has had on the many communities, individuals and families and women,” she said. The veteran musician continued: “It has been devastating and has heightened the witnessed injustice towards Indigenous women.”

Because of the continued injustice pertaining to these wicked acts and tragedies, Dalannah said that she intended for the heartfelt song to offer some form of comfort to the families and friends of those left behind.

Born of African-Canadian and Cherokee heritage, Dalannah Gail Bowen’s indisputable prowess as a prolific singer, songwriter, actress, playwright, storyteller, event producer, social activist, International Memphis Blues Awards semi-finalist and Blues Hall of Fame Master Blues Artist has secured her standing as a fixture of the blues, rock and soul music-making scene for over 40 years.

Canadian Musician Magazine says she “has a truly spectacular set of pipes, and a most commanding stage presence,” before adding that Dalannah “has one of those voices that lays claim to part of your soul the first time you hear it, and never lets go.

“Smoky. Earthy. Soulful. Powerful. But it’s not just the voice, it’s what she does with it. So much emotion. So much control.”

Critics and colleagues across the board have long been ones to agree; an in-demand vocalist, she has performed alongside or opened for the likes of Led Zeppelin, B.B. King, Willie Dixon, as well as The Monkees and The Guess Who during her time with all-female group, The Feminine Touch.

Along with her brand-new single, Dalannah’s has released three albums: her 2007 debut, Mama’s Got the Blues, Them Menz (2012) and 2019’s Looking Back — which features the popular singles “What the Hell is That?” and “Look Ahead.”

Rather, VSQ is a series of string quartet projects developed and produced by CMH Label Group, an independent record company based in Los Angeles. The CMH team works with an ever-evolving cast of arrangers, producers, string players and other creatives to bring each project to life. The series began unofficially in 1999, when CMH began releasing string quartet tribute albums on affiliate Vitamin Records.
