Vans and Foo Fighters Commemorate 25th Anniversary of Debut Album with Special Edition Sk8-Hi

0

Foo Fighters will commemorate the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album with Vans, the original action sports brand and global icon of creative expression. The 1995 release of Foo Fighters was the first major step in the ascent of Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear and Rami Jaffee to their esteemed position as the last great American stadium rock band. Vans will join forces with the 12-time Grammy winners to release a special, limited-edition Vans Sk8-Hi on January 29, days ahead of the February 5 release of Medicine at Midnight, the bands 10th album.

Vans

Vans have been a go-to favorite throughout the Foo Fighters’ career, worn from the studio to stages all around the world. A high rotation style among its members, the band chose the Vans Classic Sk8-Hi for its timeless form, maintaining the iconic appearance of the silhouette and enhancing it with Foo Fighters’ signature emblem. The black, white and red details naturally lend to a perfect collaboration for both Vans and Foo Fighters.

The Sk8-Hi features black uppers with red contrast stitching, the Foo Fighters’ double F logo in white on the medial and lateral sides, and “Foo” and “Fighters” in red on the heel. A 25th anniversary edition embroidery tag is found on the tongue, and the Sk8-Hi’s traditional Sidestripe is only hinted at, with its shape outlined in contrast stitching—a nod to Foo Fighters’ stripped-down musician style.

Mary McCartney will direct Abbey Road Studios documentary ‘If These Walls Could Sing’

Mercury Studios, the music-first content studio from Universal Music Group, has announced If These Walls Could Sing, the untold story of the world-famous Abbey Road Studios, directed by celebrated British photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney. The feature-length documentary will be produced by Academy Award, BAFTA and Prime Time Emmy Award-winner John Battsek following a new development deal between Mercury Studios and Battsek’s Ventureland. Development of the documentary has been overseen and will be executive produced by Universal Music UK’s Marc Robinson and Mercury Studios CEO, Alice Webb.

Mary McCartney brings a unique and personal perspective on the history of Abbey Road. She says, “Some of my earliest memories as a young child come from time spent at Abbey Road. I’ve long wanted to tell the story of this historic place and I couldn’t be collaborating with a better team than John and Mercury Studios to make this creative ambition a reality.”

Alice Webb says, “Mercury Studios could not be partnering with a more visionary and passionate team than Mary McCartney and John Battsek to tell Abbey Road Studios’ incredible story on film for the first time. We are passionate about showcasing work of pioneering film makers of the highest quality – which is why we are delighted Mary is bringing her creative vision to this project.”

Isabel Garvey, Managing Director of Abbey Road Studios, said, “If these walls could sing. I have lost count how many times I’ve heard that said at Abbey Road Studios over the years. I can’t wait for some of these stories to finally come to life in what will become a timeless documentary.”

If These Walls Could Sing marks the first time Abbey Road has opened its doors to a feature length documentary and will be the centrepiece of the legendary recording studios’ 90th anniversary celebrations which begin in November this year. It will tell countless stories featuring an all-star cast of interviews, unparalleled access to the studios and, of course, a spellbinding soundtrack.

Nobleton, ON’s Country Artist Matt Morson Puts His Heart on His Sleeve in Tear-Jerking New Single, “Take a Chance”

0

After making his official comeback last summer, Nobleton, Ontario-born country singer Matt Morson has just released his latest single — it’s called “Take a Chance.”

Though the powerful country ballad sounds like a bit of a different approach for the Nobleton-based artist, it’s actually a style of song he admits to write in quite frequently — though it’s one he’s neither recorded or released prior to 2021.

Upon talking about “Take a Chance,” Morson revealed it had actually been written for a while. “[It] was written many moons ago, for my girlfriend, if I’m being honest,” he reveals. “Since then, it has become so much more…

“It’s not just a love song, but also a song of hope.”

The three-minute, 20 second-spanning track is chocked full of slide guitars, reverbs and tear-jerking, yet uplifting chord progressions. There’s also a beautiful and roaring guitar solo, which simply oozes raw emotion. On top of that, the hard-hitting chorus is backed and harmonized by a beautiful (and mysterious) female voice — his girlfriend, perhaps?

In the chorus of “Take a Chance,” the duo compliment each other perfectly when they sing: “So baby take a chance / Open up your heart and grab my hand / Break down those walls and learn to love again / Try to understand that you can.”

“The message ‘take a chance’ could be applied to anything,” Morson says. “Because of all of this, it is a song I am very proud of and one that a great many people had input in to make perfect.”

Barring his most recent release, Morson’s music is heavily influenced by the classic sounds of the southern rock, blues and country genres — from near and far. The rising star first picked up a guitar at the age of 11 when growing up in the rural community based just outside of the GTA. His goal? To master Led Zeppelin’s 1969 classic “Communication Breakdown.”

As he honed his skills and mastered the art of a stage presence, Morson began incorporating his passion for music in his work by assisting in production and general event logistics for various Canadian music festivals. Over time, the charismatic artist discovered a burning desire to perform, and eventually landed himself on stage with the same high-energy band he still performs with to this day.

Over the last five years — with the help of his bandmates and various producers and collaborators — Morson has released a handful of singles, including “Don’t Cry Over Me,” “Wanted Man,” “Nevada Girl,” “Girl On the Bar” and 2020’s “Why Woman.”

Award-Winning Huntsville, ON’s Country Artist ALEXIS TAYLOR Whisks Audiences on a “Getaway” with New Single

0

With a year of increased travel restrictions both behind us, and ahead further still, award-winning Canadian country-pop artist Alexis Taylor’s new single is the “Getaway” audiences just may need.

“If there was ever a need to escape from reality and take a vacation, 2020 and 2021 are it,” the Huntsville, Ontario-raised, Nashville, Tennessee-based artist muses. “Since so many of us were stuck inside our homes, I had the idea that perhaps a vacation does not necessarily mean going to a particular place, but rather a ‘Getaway’ can be about the person or people you are with.

“Don’t get me wrong,” she insists, “I love going on trips — especially to the beach! But to me, it has never been about going to a certain place, it has always been about being with that person who makes it feel like a vacation, no matter where you are. It’s simply the fact that you’re together, and spending time with them; that’s what makes the days feel special.

“We may not be able to travel where we want to right now, but we still have each other. Sometimes, surrounding yourself with the people you love during the hard times is exactly what you need to pull through!”

Produced by multi-award winning musician John Willis (Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, Willie Nelson, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan), “Getaway” is the latest to land from Taylor, and follows last year’s trio of singles, “Just One Look (Wariner Remix),” “Cool With That,” and “Desperado.”

Since first stepping onto the scene in 2016, Alexis Taylor has racked up over 350,000+ streams across all platforms, played Canadian Music Week, CMA Fest in Nashville, Tennessee, and opened for the likes of Marshall Tucker Band, Love and Theft, Meghan Patrick, Doug Seegers across his Scandinavian tour, and more.

She’s won ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ at the 2018 Tennessee Music Awards, and has been nominated for ‘Modern Country Vocalist of the Year’ at the 2020 Josie Music Awards this September.

Upgrading Your Wardrobe: 5 Best Timepieces From Breitling

0

Timepieces are special. Some people believe that they are a remembrance that bonds everyone together. It can be a present that you can give or receive, an heirloom to be passed on your family’s next generations. It can also serve as a fashion statement or a sign of social status and many more. Regardless of the reason for wearing it, it all boils down to the fact that its main purpose is to tell time.

One of the most purchased in the market today is a Breitling watch. The company has been producing top-quality timepieces since 1884. It is well-known for its technical and highly accurate chronographs. This article will cite some of the best models that you can add to upgrade your wardrobe.

Breitling Superocean 1957 Steel

The SuperOcean shows a difference for Breitling Watches, as it publicized an advance into diver’s watches in 1957. The collection’s first few models got rid of the seconds’ chronograph counter but replaced it with an hour-long, more useful to divers. At present, the SuperOcean remains a diver’s watch, but it has a more useful seconds counter.

This model is an eccentric timepiece that can be worn easily on a daily basis. The Superocean is one of the most popular collections of Breitling. When it comes to their materials, impressive craftsmanship and high-quality movements, getting one and adding a piece from this group is a sure win.

Aviator 8 B35 Automatic Unitime 43 Stainless Steel

One of the most crucial watches to world wanderers is a world time watch like Breitling’s Unitime. The dial of the Aviator 8 can display 24 world time zones in a glance, making it easier for you to know when to make a call to London, for instance. It has a black dial and clear Arabic dial for easier time checking.

Breitling introduced the aviator chronograph in 1936 and since then has begun a link to aviation that still fits up to this day. Aviator watches are also famous for their larger size, triangle marker at 12 and easy to read black dial. If you want to add another watch collection, you can never go wrong with this model.

Navitimer 01 Blue Dial

While the Colt and Superocean collections are a bit more popular, the Navitimer is the most noticeable Breitling watch. The Breitling Navitimer 01 Blue Dial might be one of the brand’s most expensive options in 2019. But, if you seek a timepiece combined with elegance, exceptional functionality, and accuracy, it is a money well spent.

No one can go wrong in choosing Breitling’s most iconic model. Aside from being recognizable, it is also said to be an excellent watch for a pilot. High-level timepiece collectors adore Navitimer. Any watch manufacturer can produce excellent dress and diver watches, but an aviation piece is something you do not see every day. If you are a collector that already has many watches, Navitimer 1  is a good pick.

Colt Skyracer

The Colt collection was first launched in the 1980s and was initially made for armed forces. The model’s military roots are very obvious in its tough build and the unidirectional rotating bezel. The moment it became available to the public, it gained audiences because of its reliability, readable design and sturdiness. With its reasonable price, it then became the brand’s most accessible model.

Sleek, lightweight, versatile, the Breitling Colt Skyracer might be one of the low-priced watches the company released in 2019. Despite its price, the quality of this model was never compromised. Featured with legible dial, sporty design, exceptional functionality and excellence resistance to corrosion and scratches, this model is a solid choice.

Breitling Chronomat B01 42

Another collection that offers excellent watches is the Chronomat. As it says in its name, the timepieces under this group have chronographs- a complication that most watch collectors like. They offer eye-catching watches despite the ordinary designs because of the color scheme that is being used.

The Chronomat was relaunched in 1984 after Ernest Schneider assumed Breitling. Its main target community is aviation but also got popular with sea and land dwellers. The Chronomat B01 42 was launched in 2020 that came with a different strap and a 70-hour power reserve. If you are looking for a watch with an interesting combination of colors, this model is best.

Takeaway

Timepiece collection requires dedication and good eyes for details. This is a passion that not everyone has. If you are one of those aspiring watch collectors or who simply wants to upgrade your wardrobe with new watches, the list provided in this article will be a big help.

Live Nation, the world’s leading live entertainment company, today announced it has acquired a majority stake in Veeps, a ticketed live stream platform custom-built for artists, by artists.

Created by Joel and Benji Madden of the band Good Charlotte, the company’s artist-centric mentality has set it apart from others in the space, especially in terms of execution and monetization. The platform is designed for ticketed live streams, and facilitates enhanced engagement between artists and fans with features like chat and exclusive merch purchases, while also supporting broad social marketing and intimate VIP offerings. Veeps is also commission-free, which means artists don’t pay hefty fees to use the platform and can more easily grow their careers through live streaming. Established in 2017, Veeps has continued to evolve its services based on the unique needs and requests of artists.

Veeps has helped artists make millions of dollars in revenue, drawing incredible talent from emerging artists to established acts alike, including Brandi Carlile, Liam Payne, Pete Yorn, Louis Tomlinson, Architects, Rufus Wainwright and many more. The platform hosted around 1,000 ticketed live stream shows in 2020 alone, delivering some of its highest monthly ticket sales and revenue in the back half of the year.

“We are impressed with what Benji and Joel have created with Veeps and their platform will create new ways to enjoy thousands of Live Nation concerts,” said Michael Rapino, President and CEO of Live Nation Entertainment. “Live streaming is a great complement to our core business, and essentially gives any show an unlimited capacity. Looking to the future live streams will continue to unlock access for fans – whether they are tuning into a sold out show in their hometown, or watching their favorite artist play in a city halfway around the world. The most critical element of live streaming is the artist on stage, and with Live Nation’s unmatched inventory feeding into Veeps, together we will help fans enjoy more live music than ever before.”

“Benji and I have worked extensively with Live Nation over the last two decades and we’re very happy to be joining a company that is such a big supporter of artists and artist-led businesses. It’s a natural fit and evolution for our business,” said Joel Madden, cofounder of Veeps. “This partnership is a demonstration that premium, ticketed live streams have earned themselves a permanent place in the verticals of every artist business. Last year Veeps live streams helped artists — both big names and new acts — make over $10 million dollars for themselves, their families, their crew and their chosen causes and we’re looking forward to helping even more artists connect with fans this year in ways that support their art and their development.”

“We’ve always believed that taking an art-first approach to live stream shows helps artists create the kind of performance they can be proud of, and an experience that fans love. This means applying as much creativity and thoughtfulness as you would with any in-person show,” said Benji Madden, cofounder of Veeps. “We will only see this platform get more innovative as concerts return and we layer into shows in even more ways. We’re incredibly grateful for our team who continues to hustle non-stop and we look forward to amazing things ahead alongside Live Nation.”

As in-person concerts return in 2021, Veeps will continue delivering its core experiences while also tapping into Live Nation’s network to connect fans with exclusive content, new vantage points, sold out shows, and unparalleled access to events all around the world.

Benji and Joel Madden, alongside cofounders Sherry Saeedi and Kyle Heller, will remain at the helm of Veeps, with their full team staying on to continue with all operations of the business.

Frampton Forgets the Words, the new studio album by The Peter Frampton Band, will be released April 23 via UMe. Frampton Forgets the Words was co-produced by Frampton and Chuck Ainlay and was recorded/mixed at Frampton’s own Studio Phenix in Nashville. With his infamous 1954 Les Paul Phenix—which was lost in a plane crash in 1980 and recovered more than 30 years later— Frampton brings virtuosic guitar playing to songs by David Bowie, George Harrison, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz and more.

Frampton notes, “This album is a collection of ten of my favorite pieces of music. My guitar is also a voice and I have always enjoyed playing my favorite vocal lines that we all know and love. These tracks are my great band and me paying tribute to the original creators of this wonderful music. So much fun to do and I really hope you enjoy it too.”

Peter Frampton is among the most celebrated guitarists in rock history. At 18, he co-founded one of the first supergroups, Humble Pie. By 22, he was touring incessantly and making use of the talk box which would become his signature guitar effect. He’s collaborated with such legendary artists as George Harrison, David Bowie, Jerry Lee Lewis and Ringo Starr, among many others, and has toured with the likes of Stevie Nicks, Greg Allman, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, and the Steve Miller Band. In 2014 he was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame.

The Roots’ ‘Do You Want More?!!!??!’ Deluxe Edition Out March 12

0

It’s been 26 years since Do You Want More?!!!??!, the groundbreaking second studio album and major label-debut by The Roots. Originally released on January 17, 1995 via DGC Records, Do You Want More?!!!??!, brought The Roots’ neo-soul bohemian zest to life and established them as leading figures of hip-hop-jazz. The album which peaked at #22 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart, features their singles “Distortion To Static,” “Proceed” (considered one of their most signature recordings), and the rap ballad “Silent Treatment.” Led by MC Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, the Philadelphia rap crew are going back to where it began with a 3LP, 4LP and a digital deluxe collection of Do You Want More?!!!??! to be released on March 12, 2021.

Going back to the vault, this deluxe edition is drawn from the original recordings and features eighteen bonus tracks curated by Questlove; some of which have never been released and others that have never previously been available digitally. The 3LP deluxe vinyl edition features five bonus tracks — “Proceed II Feat. Roy Ayers”, “Proceed III”, “Proceed IV (AJ Shine Mix)”, “Proceed V (Beatminerz Mix),” along with five remixes of “Silent Treatment” — plus a 24-page booklet featuring images taken by Mpozi Tolbert, essays by Questlove and Black Thought as well as track-by-track commentary. While the 4LP edition features all of the above plus the additional eight bonus tracks; “In Your Dreams Kid (I’m Every MC),” “The Ultimate (Original ’94 Version),” “……(dot dot dot…on & on),” “Pffat Time,” “Swept Away (Original Draft),” “It’s Coming,” “Lazy Afternoon (Alternate Version),” and two remix versions of “Distortion To Static.”

What made them stand out from other artists who were intertwining hip hop with jazzy influences and prominently using live instrumentation was the Roots’ unabashed confidence with experimentation and letting the music speak for itself. As Albumism says, “While the live instrumentation is integral to their artistic success, it is not the sole attraction. Even 25 years ago, Black Thought stood out as a commanding lyricist, as did Malik B, his more publicly reserved rhyme partner. ” A quarter of a century after the release of Do You Want More?!!!??, they are still considered to be one of the greatest live acts in the industry and have been named as such by Rolling Stone. They are also the house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and served in the same role on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon from 2009 to 2014.

Do You Want More?!!!??! has been considered by critics as a classic of hip-hop-jazz. Chicago Tribune music critic Greg Kot celebrated the group’s ability to “mate hip-hop wordplay, funk rhythms and jazzy textures” and called the album “an impressive display of skills, intelligently arranged and performed.” In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source‘s 100 Best Rap Albums. On November 2, 2015, twenty years after its release, the album was certified Gold. The album stands out from The Roots’ iconic discography as it showcased a pioneering live band that put their own spin on a genre that was still coming into its own.
