Vancouver, BC Singer/Songwriter KELE FLEMING Releases New Single Sure To Go Viral — ”The Latest Meme”

0

Canadian singer/songwriter and pop artist Kele Fleming has just released her latest single, “The Latest Meme” — available now.

Existential lyrics like “10 years on / So much is gone / Am I more weathered?” and “Age of distraction / What’s the attraction?” make it clear that Kele (pronounced Kelly) wrote this surprisingly upbeat and jazzy tune about the inevitability of coming to terms with aging and the overall struggles of staying adapted with the youth of the latest generation and their trends — the digital age, in this case.

“The Latest Meme” comes from the queer folk singer’s fourth and most recent album, The Song I’ll Write for My Whole Life (2020); the 10-track record marks her official comeback to the music scene, after nearly four years away.

The two-minute, 40 second-spanning track was written solely by Kele and recorded at Zed Productions in Vancouver, by studio engineer Sheldon Zaharko. Along with “The Latest Meme,” the two produced the rest of The Song I’ll Write for My Whole Life together between February and November 2019, before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As well as Kele’s vocal and guitar work, her newest single (and album) features piano work by Ron Yamauchi, bass tracks by Aaron Trory (bass), Tony Lee on the drums and additional guitars recorded by Scott Fletcher.

Though she grew up in small-town Ontario before spending many years in Nova Scotia and Vancouver Island, Fleming made the decision to become a Vancouverite in the 1990s to pursue her academic career and the diverse avenues of music. While there, her professional career kicked off when she fronted as the singer for a haunting indie band by the name of Hazel Motes.

Her music has always been packed to the brim with complex sonic elements, tender lyricism and the utmost passion; in her work, she explores deeply personal themes which are always executed flawlessly.

Since the mass outbreak of the life-threatening coronavirus, Fleming has released a variety of songs from the brand-new album as singles, including “Compassion Machine,” “Coda” and “Sea in Me.”On top of The Song I’ll Write for My Whole Life, Kele has three other studio albums: 2004’s Song From the Tin Forest, 2010’s World in Reverse, and 2016’s No Static.

Experimental Downtempo Music Duo Anaté Release Somber New Single, “First Time”

0

Ahead of their forthcoming debut studio album, experimental downtempo duo Anaté have released a stunning new single, “First Time” — available now.

The somber pop ballad is carried by a groovy drum and bass track which is accompanied by the ambient sounds of violins and a bone-chilling vocal melody.

A collaboration between French singer/songwriter Ana and Italian music producer, Andrea, the duo met in early 2019 during a trip to Brussels and — after having the revelation of sharing the same musical vision — have been writing and recording music together virtually since then.

The name Anaté, comes from the singer/songwriter and face of the project — whose full name is Ana-Maria Teodorescu. After being trained in classical piano from a very young age, she’s always been involved in writing and performing music; she is currently based between Paris, France and Berlin, Germany.

Andrea — who’s currently living in Milan, Italy — takes care of all things production when it comes to Anaté. He performed as guitar player with several local bands from early 2000’s to 2015, when he decided to focus on producing local artists and writing own music.

Anaté’s overall musical style is driven and defined by an omnipresent downtempo style, however, covers a variety of genres sonically. This unique approach to music makes sense once you understand the duo’s shared music taste. They’ve named bands such as Massive Attack, Hooverphonic, Dido and Amy Lee as not only some of their biggest songwriting influences, but also as an inspiration for production.

Uncoincidentally, “First Time” was actually the first song written by Anaté, in 2019. Andrea crafted the initial beat which immediately inspired Anate to write a song about the dark side of being in love.

“Don’t we all remember that moment when we first fell in love?” Ana says. “It felt like the only people in the world were you and that person… That you were sharing your own little secret and every moment together was almost magical.

“Until reality hits — one or both of you either gave too much or too little,” she adds. “You gradually start falling apart, watching the love story come to an end.”

“When I sent ‘First Time’ to Ana, she answered back after a few hours saying she was ‘jumping on the chair’ in her office because she had the perfect melody and lyrics for the song,” Andrea recalls.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the talented twosome also released their premiere single, “Confusion.”

“It talks about duality,” Ana says of the track. “It’s about the conflict between what we want and what we are ‘allowed to want,’ between who we are and expected to be… Between emotion and reason.

“We all experience moments of inner conflict like that,” she continues. “‘Confusion’ explores these contrasting concepts and invites us to embrace both.”

The song’s video was directed by the Argentinian Fausto Torelli Tulissi, and was filmed in Berlin. It explores duality in images, pictured as a constant back and forth between the heavy reality and a “dream world” — our inner world. It follows Ana’s journey to the point where she is finally facing and embracing herself.

Both tracks are a preview to the duo’s forthcoming debut album, Confessions. Featuring 10 tracks, the LP is described by Ana as a “journey that leads us to being who we are when no one is watching…

“Ten confessions shared as songs.”

Confessions will be available this June 2021.

Handle With Care: Toronto Blues Rock Powerhouse MELANIE? Says “Be Careful With My Heart” in New Single

0

There’s no question about it: Canadian blues rocker Melanie? says “Be Careful With My Heart” in this, her latest single.

Adding to her 500,000+ streams and counting, the new bluesy pop ballad is chocked full of emotion, tasty guitar leads and a simple, yet groovy bass line. It’s all par for the musical course for the Toronto-based artist (nee Melanie Goldman) who Clash Magazine recently described as “defiant in her outlook, staunch in her approach, and completely, utterly ruthless in her execution.”

Melanie? says her music has been influenced overall by not only a variety of classic rock legends like Robert Plant and Kurt Cobain, but modern trailblazers as well, such as Alabama Shakes, the Marcus King Band and the legendary Leon Bridges. The avid mental health advocate describes her overall sound as not just “rock,” but “blues,” “pop,” “growth” and “self-love.”

As a psychotherapist in training and an avid mental health advocate, Melanie? understands the importance of keeping healthy and staying productive during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why she’s been focused so hard on making music for her fans.

In addition to that, she launched a fundraiser last May to help support the Unison Benevolent fund’s COVID-19 Relief Project by selling masks with her own logo on them. 100% of proceeds went to the cause and helped her well surpass a $10,000 CAD goal; to help out with the good cause, Spotify pledged to match every donation dollar for dollar and in the end, helped raise a whopping $15,000 overall.

Though Melanie?’s Masks for Music fundraiser is now closed, for those who missed out on the masks, they are still available to order via Melanie?’s GoFundMe page.

Prior to the Mask for Music campaign, Melanie? released 2020’s “Love Sucks” as a Valentine’s Day single for her fans. The groovy and infectious foot-tapping tune followed the release of the homegrown Ontarian’s 2019 debut single, “Yeah Yeah.” On top of that, Melanie? has a trio of demos for fans to hear on her official website.

Duran 40 on Pandora features the band’s biggest hits and fan favorites from across their career, gathered in a new original format merging music and talk. The collection includes all four band members along with special guests providing commentary on the making of, and inspiration behind the music. Special guests Mark Ronson and Nile Rodgers will join Duran 40 as they share personal memories and stories about Duran Duran’s body of work. Pandora’s Duran 40 will be hosted by the BBC’s Claudia Winkleman; the program will be available exclusively via Pandora starting January 28, with broadcast versions airing on SiriusXM’s Volume (channel 106) and First Wave (channel 33).

Additionally, Duran frontman Simon Le Bon will host WHOOOSH! beginning January 27 at 9 PM ET exclusively on SiriusXM’s Volume channel. WHOOOSH! is a weekly music show featuring Le Bon chatting and playing some of his favorite records including new discoveries. Le Bon is joined by Duran insider and band associate Katy Krassner as they discuss their latest song obsessions and new music that excites them. WHOOOSH! first debuted on Duran Duran’s website in 2020, and now moves exclusively to SiriusXM with all new programs in 2021 airing on the Volume channel and as a new podcast.

“It all began as a lockdown thing,” said Simon Le Bon. “It dawned on me that the only music I was listening to was what I was working on, and the stuff that got me into a band in the first place. So I switched on my ears, and went on a trip down a sonic rabbit hole. What a revelation – there is so much great new talent, so much music out there. Katy is the foil that makes it all work. And so a radio show is born. WHOOOSH! – it’s the sound of your mind expanding to take on a new idea.”

“Duran Duran is one of the most influential bands of the last 40 years, and we are thrilled to welcome Duran 40 and WHOOOSH! on Pandora and SiriusXM for our listeners,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer of SiriusXM. “Their hit songs, iconic videos, and extensive music catalog have been embraced by multiple generations of fans who can now hear the music and the great stories behind them from the band members themselves and an array of truly special guests.”

As 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the band’s debut album release, internationally acclaimed, multi-platinum selling, award-winning pop legends Duran Duran will return to the stage this summer for a handful of live dates in the UK and Europe. The band recently released a poignant and highly praised tribute cover of David Bowie’s ‘Five Years,’ in honor of what would have been Bowie’s 74th birthday (listen here). On Thursday, January 28, Duran Duran’s new music video for ‘Five Years’ will premiere on YouTube at 12 PM ET. Watch HERE. Immediately prior to the video premiere, keyboardist Nick Rhodes will appear on the band’s Instagram Live answering questions with fans, after which bassist John Taylor will host a live Q&A on the band’s YouTube channel.

Margo Price Confronts Addiction, Depression & The Demons of Her Past In New Music Video for “Hey Child”

0

Margo Price releases her official music video for “Hey Child,” the climactic centerpiece of her latest album, That’s How Rumors Get Started (Loma Vista). With a soaring, scorching slow-burn of an arrangement backed by the Nashville Friends Gospel Choir, The New York Times’ T Magazine calls “Hey Child” a standout track that “begs to be played on the open road,” and Esquire hails it “a chest-thumping rallying cry for, as [Price] says, ‘people to get their shit together, in one way or another.'” The new visual delivers a gripping and tenacious depiction of the personal demons that Margo Price has overcome throughout her career, from the jail time she served for substance abuse to the power she has reclaimed from years of tragedy and despair.

“‘Hey Child’ was a song that was written back in 2012 not long after my husband Jeremy and I lost our son Ezra,” says Margo. “We were playing shows with our rock and roll band Buffalo Clover and occupying most of the bars in East Nashville. We had begun hanging with a rowdy group of degenerate musician friends and partying harder than The Rolling Stones. We were outsiders to what was going on with mainstream Nashville in every sense and it was the beginning of my bourbon drinking phase. The song was about how many of our talented friends were drinking and partying their talents away but after a few years had passed, we realized it was just as much about us as our friends. I had retired it when the band broke up but Sturgill Simpson resurrected it when he asked me if I would re-record it for That’s How Rumors Get Started.

“I knew I wanted Kim to direct the video. She and I wanted to show pieces of my past lives and how I have moved on. It was both therapeutic and painful to revisit those memories and who I used to be. I know so many people who struggle with substance abuse. I just lost a family member to alcohol. My second cousin Tammy locked herself into a hotel room and drank herself to death two months ago. In another life, that could have been me. If you know someone struggling with depression and/or addiction, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, or SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357.”

On May 28th, for the first time since 2019, Margo Price and her band will headline a concert to an audience of in-person attendees. Announced today, the socially-distanced show will take place outdoors at The Caverns Above Ground Amphitheater in Pelham, TN, where all aspects of the event will adhere to strict guidelines that protect the health and safety of everyone involved.

Ahead of The Caverns performance, Price is scheduled to join Chris Stapleton for two shows in April, in addition to an appearance at the socially-distanced Moon Crush Festival. Full tour dates are listed here, and fans can expect to see ferocious sets full of music from That’s How Rumors Get Started. Produced by Sturgill Simpson and co-produced by Margo Price and David Ferguson, the record just underscored another momentous year for Margo Price. She finished 2020 with one of the Top 10 most-played albums and singles on Americana Radio, released her Perfectly Imperfect at The Ryman live album, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS This Morning, The Daily Show, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Amanpour, Good Morning America, MSNBC and much more. She also brought her Runaway Horses radio show to Spotify, where it will now live as an ongoing podcast.

Folk Musician JAMES CULLETON Uses AR Technology to Bring Children’s Concept Album & New Single to Life

0

It’s time to meet the main characters in Canadian folk musician James Culleton’s children’s concept AR technology album Unusual Friendships, with this: the release of his new single “Little White Paws” — available now!

“‘Little White Paws’ describes each of the characters in Unusual Friendships and gives the listeners the basic facts to what they are about to embark on,” Culleton shares of the song in its relation to the album. “This first song is sort of a preface to the full story.”

With a collection of 14 original songs, the 36 minute-spanning record features a mixture of traditional and contemporary roots song while succinctly retelling the symbolic tale of acceptance and equality relayed through a peculiar friendship which blossoms unexpectedly between a black cat and a white rat. Though rats and cats are thought to be enemies, the dynamic duo stick together throughout Unusual Friendships to fight and earn the respect of others.

The mixed media album is based on the children’s story Unusual Friendships: A Little Black Cat and a Little White Rat, written by the award-winning Métis author Beatrice Mosionier — who is also Culleton’s aunt; the 71-year-old novelist wrote the rhyme-heavy book as symbolism for difficulties Métis persons experience.

Touched by the story, Culleton decided to take his own shot at Unusual Friendships — but from a sonic approach. Though he breathed new life into the classic Canadian tale by recording an entire concept album based around it alone, just that didn’t seem to be enough for the contemporary multimedia artist.

As his first-ever children’s album, the Winnipeg-based artist made it his mission to ensure his listeners — whether kids or adults — could be fully-immersed into the musical adaptation. How did he do it, some might ask? Well, he partnered up with an augmented reality (AR) company by the name of Artivive to help turn the exciting listening experience into a wondrous animated experience.

For the full multimedia experience, all listeners have to do is download the Artitive app on their smartphones or tablets and scan Culleton’s latest album cover and bring it to life with the vivid and spectacular, music-backed animations illustrated by James and his 13-year-old daughter Mae Culleton.

“The illustrations are the beginnings to a new version of the book, Unusual Friendships,” Culleton shares. “I wanted the animals to still be animals, but appear to play instruments, and dance and jig.

“Making the illustrations for the album took lots of time,” he continues, recalling the process. “I redrew the cats several times in trying to give them the right personality. ‘Little White Paws’ is based on a cat my Aunt had named Buddy, and the dog in the story is visually based on my dog, Clara.”

The album features Al Simmons on banjo and harmonica, as well as feature vocal harmonies and French-version leads from Franco-Manitoban musician Andrina Turenne. On top of that, there’s an adorable chorus of “cats” contributed by some of the children in the St. Boniface neighbourhood in Winnipeg. Unusual Friendships was recorded at Scott Nolan’s Song Shop with Jamie Sitar in Manitoba.

Though Culleton has released several other family-friendly records — including Spooky Songs, At Christmas Time and Vanished Days — Unusual Friendships serves as his first-ever kid’s album. It’s also his ninth overall release as a songwriter.

Unusual Friendships and the lead single, “Little White Paws” — which was recorded in both English and French — are available now.

At 3.5 Million+ Streams, New Brunswick Country Star LAURIE LEBLANC Longs for “Another Night Like This”

0

Canadian country singer/songwriter Laurie LeBlanc longs for “Another Night Like This” in this, his new single — available now.

“Imagine a warm summer night, the kind when fireworks and butterflies are ever so present, and you just don’t want it to end,” the Bouctouche, New Brunswick-based artist muses. “It may be your first love, or it may be ‘the one’…

“And if we’re lucky, it happens to us once in our lifetime.”

Adding to his 3.5 Million+ streams across platforms, the song is the latest to land from Laurie LeBlanc’s most recent full-length offering, When It’s Right It’s Right (2020).

Best known for his enveloping, all-encompassing east coast Acadian sounds, the album features 10 original songs, each co-written with some of Nashville’s top songsmiths; it was produced by multi-Canadian Country Music Award-winner Jason Barry, and features members of Dean Brody’s touring band.

Inspired to push his desire to write in English — and with a loving nudge from his wife and manager, Jeannette, with whom he also co-created another single on the album with, “All In” — When It’s Right It’s Right is LeBlanc’s second all-English release to date. Previous albums include Couleurs (2018), 20 (2015), Noël de la Pitoune (2014), Noir et Blanc (2012), La Pitoune (2010), and his initial all-English release, Influences (2013). “She wanted me to record an English album for a while,” he explains. “I needed to step out of my comfort zone, and it turned out to be a truly gratifying experience.”

“Another Night Like This” was an instant contender when narrowing When It’s Right It’s Right down to its final track listing.

“I loved this song from the first moment I heard it,” LeBlanc recalls. “The writer’s description of a magical night between two lovers, blended with a sexy, laid-back energy? I knew right away it would be a cut on the album.

“I wanted this album to have a diverse sound, but it’s also important to me to make people happy through my music,” he continues. “If I can connect with a song, then hopefully other people will too.

“When It’s Right It’s Right has a little bit of everything I like. There’s up-tempo, fun stuff, happy love stories, and even some country rock in there, too. It was hard to choose the final cuts for the record, but at the end of the day I think it turned out just right.

“‘Cause… When It’s Right It’s Right, right?”

Linus Entertainment Acquires Stony Plain Music Publishing

Curated by respected blues historian and long-time host of CBC Radio’s Saturday Night Blues, Holger Petersen and Linus Entertainment today announced the acquisition of the Stony Plain music publishing catalog.

“It’s been just over two years since Linus Entertainment acquired the Stony Plain Records catalog, things have gone so smoothly and they have done such a good job with the recordings it felt like the right home for the publishing catalog as well,” commented Holger Petersen, who started Stony Plain publishing 49 years ago from his home base in Edmonton, Alberta with long-time partner Alvin Jahns.

The catalog includes songs by Maria Muldaur, Ronnie Earl, Colin Linden, Amos Garrett, Kevin Breit, Doug Sahm, Sonny Rhodes, Harry Manx, Paul Reddick, Sue Foley, Big Dave Maclean, Tim Hus, Charlie Angus, Jay McShann, Rita Chiarelli, Walter ‘Shakey’ Horton, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, and Cindy Church, and songs recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Jeff Healey, Long John Baldry, Downchild, Dutch Mason, MonkeyJunk, and Jr Gone Wild.

“These songs are part of the history of North American roots music, written by Grammy, Juno, and Blues Music Award winners, and we couldn’t be prouder to be their music publisher,” stated Linus Entertainment CEO Geoff Kulawick.

How Much Data Does Online Gaming Use

0

You might remember your childhood when your parents brought an Atari console. This was the best moment for you. Your dad helped in setting it up and then a time frame was designated for its daily use. You were asked to follow the schedule for gameplay. If you were to neglect the time frame then the game would be taken away from you and you would never be able to play it again. Of course, you did not want that to happen so you adhered. As time passed, your love for the game increased. According to your perception, this time was about love for games and even more so about a lovely time with siblings. You would wait all day for the designated time for your video games. Oh, what lovely days those were. Life was beautiful with simplicity and games.

Nowadays, the world has become very tough and complicated and the games have turned into a very entertaining form of art. By playing these games, one enters into a virtual world of wonder. In the past, video games were very simple. They consisted of a console along with some cassettes for a video game. The console was hooked up to a television to play these cassette games. It usually consisted of two controllers that were attached to the console. We were more than two siblings so we had to wait for our turn. Only two people could play at one time and it was too difficult to sit there waiting for your turn.

Modern Video Games

Now the story is different. The new version of video games is the online realm and it has become much more entertaining now. Games are available for every age. A variety has been introduced in modern gaming so preferences are available in this case now. Modern games have been designed by skill-set. These games range from candy crush to call of duty (COD).  These games are played through the internet and there is no restriction on how many players can play at one time. The players may be from different countries. They can play at a single time at their own locations.

However, there are some requirements for every modification. Video game evolution has taken games from Atari console to online video games. It means that there is a need for an internet connection to your PC. And we’re not saying just any internet connection, you have to ensure that it is an internet connection that offers at least 100 Mbps download speed and a stable network. You can check out AT&T internet plans in this regard as they fulfill the requirements and offer much more. After an internet connection, you would be able to play games. However, some basic requirements need to be fulfilled for playing games at your place.

Gaming Device

It is clear now that a device is a basic requirement for playing modern games. As there was a console in the past, now games are played on laptops and smartphones. There is a variety of games now but first-person shooter games are all the rage. They are played on laptops or PCs while Candy Crush and other games of the sort are played on smartphones. Whichever type of game you are playing you will need a fast internet connection. Data is used up by these games while playing and downloading them. There is a popular belief that games use up a lot of data. But it’s not the reality. After downloading, minimal data is used by these games.

Internet Connection

When you have decided on your gameplay device, then there is a need for a good supply of internet connection. A 1 Gig fiber-optic connection is not required for shooting your enemies in your game. There is only a need for a stable internet connection that can provide good download speed and low ping. Any Internet service provider (ISPs) that fulfills the requirements can be subscribed to. As discussed earlier, AT&T internet is a good match for gamers. However, whichever provider you choose just to ensure that they offer you good downloading speed and unlimited data at a reasonable cost.

Download Speed

In online gameplay, download speed is a very essential requirement. The remote servers often set system and internet requirements for you to be allowed to play. If the speed is good, you will receive access, otherwise, you may be removed from the game. Being a pro gamer, the download speed of 100 Mbps is enough for you. If the latency is low as well then a download speed of fewer than 100 Mbps is also enough.

Latency

The speed at which the information about the game is transmitted between two remote devices is called the latency of that internet connection. The faster the latency, the more instant will be transmission. The unit of Ping is milliseconds (ms). When ping is less than 100 ms, there would be no significant problem.

Data Allowance

We have heard from many people that a good game to be played online requires much data. But in reality, you don’t need to worry about it. Because new games are evolving and have fewer data requirements.  You can play games with limited data, as long as you choose games according to your data availability. Like a social media platform, these online video games also require minimal data. But if you are watching videos or movies for hours then obviously more data will be used.  You need enough data for downloading a video game. Large video game files require a huge chunk of your data, so you can download these games only when you have enough supply of data like at the start of the month.

Here is some information about popular games and their data requirements.

Sr. Online Game

Call of Duty (Black Ops IV) 80MB

Call of Duty (WW II) 40MB

Conclusion

While playing online games, you would use less data than that used by your family watching a movie or a cat video. However, it is good sense to keep a check on your data allowance if it is limited, to ensure you do not run out before the end of the month.
