Matt Berninger Of The National Debuts ‘Distant Axis’

0

In anticipation of Serpentine Prison, the upcoming debut solo record from Matt Berninger — frontman of critically acclaimed group The National — Berninger is premiering the new track, Distant Axis, alongside a video which he directed with his brother, Tom Berninger, and Chris Sgroi.

Berninger explains about the track, which he wrote with The Walkmen’s Walter Martin, “I met Walter Martin fifteen years ago when The National opened for The Walkmen on a tour of shitty clubs in the American Southeast. On that tour I learned a lot about how to be in a band without ruining your life. I also learned a lot about Florida, Tennessee and Georgia. Walt and I have stayed friends and about three years ago we started passing ideas back and forth. Distant Axis started from a sketch Walt sent me named Savannah. I think it’s about falling out of touch with someone or something you once thought would be there forever.”

Serpentine Prison is due October 2. The album, produced by famed Memphis multi-instrumentalist, Booker T. Jones, will be released via Book Records, a new imprint formed by Berninger and Jones in conjunction with Concord Records. The album features contributions from a wide array of notable artists, including Matt Barrick (The Walkmen, Jonathan Fire*Eater), Andrew Bird, Mike Brewer, Hayden Desser, Scott Devendorf (The National), Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz), Booker T. Jones, Teddy Jones, Brent Knopf (EL VY, Menomena), Ben Lanz (The National, Beirut), Walter Martin (The Walkmen, Jonathan Fire*Eater), Sean O’Brien, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan), Kyle Resnick (The National, Beirut), Matt Sheehy (EL VY, Lost Lander) and Harrison Whitford (Phoebe Bridgers). Additional production on the album was provided by Sean O’Brien.

In addition to his duties as frontman of acclaimed rock group, The National, with whom he won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for 2017’s Sleep Well Beast, Berninger also collaborated with Brent Knopf (Ramona Falls, Menomena) under the moniker El Vy for the 2015 release Return to the Moon. In 2019 Berninger appeared in Between Two Ferns: The Movie and teamed up with Phoebe Bridgers to contribute the song, Walking on a String, to the film’s soundtrack.

Dawes Announce New Album ‘Good Luck With Whatever’ Out October 2

0

– Veteran American rockers, Dawes, have announced the release of their extraordinary new album. The Los Angeles-based band’s seventh studio LP, GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER, arrives via Rounder Records on Friday, October 2; pre-orders are available now. Produced by 6x GRAMMY® Award-winner, Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit), at Nashville’s famed RCA Studio A, GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER is heralded by today’s premiere of Who Do You Think You’re Talking To?, available now at all DSPs and streaming services. The high-spirited track is joined by an official companion video, streaming now at the official Dawes YouTube channel.

GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER – which marks Dawes’ first release on their new label, Rounder Records – follows a series of acclaimed self-released albums including 2013’s STORIES DON’T END, 2015’s ALL YOUR FAVORITE BANDS, 2016’s WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE, and 2018’s PASSWORDS, all of which reached the top 10 or higher on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts.

From its first downbeat, the new LP sees Dawes frontman, Taylor Goldsmith, grappling with the expectations of adulthood on a remarkable cycle of new songs fueled by many of the same elements that first earned the band worldwide attention and applause – graceful melodies with kinetic riffs and intricate musical interplay. Throughout the album, Dawes once again prove incredibly adept at pushing the emotional limits of the classically structured rock song, a testament to their tightly honed yet imaginative musicianship and the gripping specificity of Goldsmith’s songwriting. A culmination of their entire catalogue and decade-long career all wrapped up in nine glorious tracks, GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER reclaims the rugged urgency and easy confidence of Dawes’ early work while tapping into the veteran band’s intense musical connection more effectively than ever before.

“In the past, I’ve definitely been more precious about the way I wanted the songs to sound, but that’s never as fun,” Goldsmith says. “The music we make is everyone’s mode of expression, and the other guys all have chops that I don’t have and never will. The fact that we’re able to lean on each other and celebrate each other as individuals just makes us so much more excited about getting to play together in this band.”

Dawes also recently unveiled LIVE FROM RICHMOND, VA, a spectacular 11-track concert recording available exclusively as a digital download via Bandcamp; all proceeds will be divided between Reform LA Jails and Black Lives Matter Los Angeles.

The Future is Augmented!: AR is Constantly Making the Front Pages Across Several Industries

0

The fictional days are long gone now. With technology taking centre stage in almost all aspects of our life, possibilities are being successfully converted into practicalities; at least most of them. Although fictional content has directed ‘impractical’ realities towards its audience, science has proven otherwise. As innovations have spearheaded their way into all industries, concepts such as augmented and virtual reality have been absolute game-changers. Ever since its inception, AR has derived applications that are not just limited to entertainment sector. AR is being used in the healthcare industry for predicting tumors and diseases as well as studying them through a virtual representation. Among the list of fascinating applications, certain end-uses in healthcare have stood out and at the current pace, AR looks set to dominate the ICT space. Driven by a wide range of applications, the global AR market is set to be worth $125 billion by 2026, states Fortune Business Insights in its latest report.

What the term ‘Augmented’ Really Means…

Although many are aware that AR is being used on a wide scale across the world, only a slightly lower majority really understands what the concept is. It is difficult to explain AR in a tech-savvy language. To put it in simpler terms, augmented reality is when another reality is embedded onto the current reality to study certain outcomes. Evidently, applications of this concept can range across diverse industries, accounting for the exceptional abilities that it holds. In textbook terms, the word augmented is used to describe something that is intensified or amplified to a considerable extent. Just like the dictionary meaning, augmented in AR is used to describe the amplification of current reality by adding another reality.

Revolutionary AR Taking Healthcare Industry by a Storm!

Although the concept is known for its application in the entertainment industry, it is currently making headlines across the healthcare industry. AR had certainly left a long lasting impression when it first burst onto the scene. The idea of a third world reality had understandably startled the human brain, but no one could have remotely predicted that it could also do wonders in the healthcare industry.

  • Delivering Efficient Treatment: AR is not just limited to research and study, but is being used along with other concepts in treatment procedures. AR is used to implement virtual demonstrations for patients undergoing physical rehabilitation. Although this might not seem that significant on paper, the use of AR in physiotherapy is turning out to be hugely beneficial. Patients are able to sync in tandem with these demonstrations and thus speed up the recovery process in physical injuries.
  • Integrating Advanced Concepts: The most obvious application is to try out something onto something and see whether it is working through predictive outcomes. Just like this, AR is being used to study the integration of modern technologies in healthcare devices and equipment by major companies across the globe. This seems to help companies avoid losses of failures and trials and this save a lot of money as well as time. The development lifecycle span of any device in the healthcare industry can be reduced to a great extend through the integration of AR at an early stage.
  • Assisting Surgical Procedures: We are all quite aware of the importance ‘precision’ holds in surgical procedures. With very little or almost no room for error, surgeons readily welcome all the help they can get in terms of surgical efficacies. From conducting minimally invasive surgeries to severe applications such as locating tumors in sensitive body parts, AR holds huge significance in surgical procedures.

Although it is still early days, AR has managed to attract considerable attention from across the world. With countless applications, there has been an increase in the studies conducted through and on AR in the past decade. There is no doubt that AR has created a sense of excitement not just among professionals, but also within the observers and consumers. Companies such as Google and Facebook are actively investing in AR as well as AR-based concepts. With numerous possibilities, augmented reality has the potential to attract billion-dollar investments in the coming years. If early predictions are to be believed, the future looks exciting and AR could just be the next big thing in the ICT space.

100K Views! 155k Streams! MICAH BARNES Says ‘Thank You, Canada!’ For Coming Along on his Groundbreaking Cross-Country Virtual Tour

0

With over 100,000 views of “Vegas Breeze” and 155,000+ streams on Spotify, Canadian jazz master Micah Barnes is extending big thanks to his Canadian fans as he completes his creative and inventive digital cross-country tour.

The 14-date national tour was held virtually to celebrate the release of his new album, Vegas Breeze — which also hit #1 on the iTunes Jazz Album charts!

“I’m one very grateful jazz singer,” Barnes shares of the experience. “COVID-19 has effected so many people in so many ways, and I appreciate the opportunity to ‘travel’ into the ears and hearts of so many with this unique concert series we offered.”

Home to #1 chart-topping hits “That’s Life” and “When In Rome (I Do as the Romans Do)” — Vegas Breeze is available now!

Following the success of his #1 iTunes Canada Jazz Chart album, New York Stories, the new album sets its new stage immediately, transporting listeners back to Sin City’s yesteryear of legendary showrooms and iconic entertainers working ‘the strip.’

“Finding the songs for Vegas Breeze was a gas,” Barnes recalls of his meticulous search of 50s and 60s-era pop. “It meant hours and hours of enjoyment, discovering lesser known material of the classic showroom era.

“Although most people think of The Rat Pack as the classic ‘Vegas’ sound, my whole focus for Vegas Breeze was to look beyond them, and explore the many other showroom headliners who were popular back in the day.

“On the album’s title track, ‘Vegas Breeze,’ we pay tribute to the mid-60s Vegas vibes of Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach, and Dusty Springfield,” he continues, for example. “It’s a flashback to a simpler and easier time when the world just wanted a little distraction and fun, and a little something to dance around to at the backyard BBQ!

“And wait until you see the video,” he teases, if you haven’t yet. “We tried to create a ‘24 hours in Sin City’ feel, featuring a certain ‘former Nylon’ as the headline entertainer in every showroom on the Strip. It’s a loving look back at the city in its most classic era, and I hope it takes audiences into three and a half minutes of pure fun and escapism!”

Born in Vienna and raised in Canada, Micah Barnes cut his teeth in the cabarets and jazz clubs of the city while still a teenager, before joining a cappella vocal group The Nylons in 1989. A JUNO Award-nominee, the years since have seen Barnes’ catapulting solo career has proffer extensive International touring, top-charting at #1 — including but not limited to Billboard hit “Welcome To My Head” and debuting #1 on the iTunes Canada Jazz Chart for Vegas Breeze and also singles “That’s Life” and “When In Rome (I Do as the Romans Do)” — and an extensive coaching roster for some of the industry’s most elite entertainers.

Vegas Breeze is available now.

Pop-Trap Crossover “Wits End” Has Artist Ashley Sage and Producer GemimindBeatz Stepping Out of Comfort Zones

0

Brooklyn-based producer GemimindBeatz and RnB singer/songwriter Ashley Sage have come together in a pop-trap pairing for this, their debut collaboration, “Wits End” — available now.

Mixed by multi-Gold/Platinum selling and Grammy Award winning engineer Michael Ashby (Cardi B, Latoya Jackson, Fetty Wap, Zoey Dollar, Offset), “Wits End” smoothes the surface as a lyrical lid-pop into frustrations with the ‘talking phase’ of a new relationship and feeling fed up with random drips of romantic engagement.

But dig deeper and music lovers will find themselves bearing witness to a debut crossover so rife with sonic chemistry, they’d never guess the collab came from a chance encounter.

“My production partners and I met Ms. Ashley Sage at an art showcase in Brooklyn, and we instantly connected,” Gemimind recalls. “She showed up to our studio the very next day to kick ideas around, which resulted in the initial freestyle that became ‘Wits End.’”

With a voice like a canary, the songstress has quickly made waves with her introspective, catchy releases that unleash her quirky, light-hearted personality. Drawing on jazz, RnB, and reggae influences, Ashley Sage is said to use music to ‘get honest with herself,’ and brought exactly that energy to the table that day.

“This song has us stepping out of our comfort zones,” Gemimind continues. “Ms. Sage usually keeps to her singer-songwriter, ‘slice of life’ and indie RnB roots, whereas I usually veer towards a more hardcore rap sound.

“This is actually my first non-rap professional release.”

GemimindBeatz first discovered his unique ear for melodies at the age of just three, and spent his adolescence and teens studying with a range of mentors. “It was important to me to continuously expand my repertoire with a deep understanding of musical foundations,” he shares. “Once I had my heart set on producing hip-hop, my goal became clear.”

That clarity has translated into a concerted dedication to training towards a more sophisticated trap / rap sound, he adds, describing his now-signature brand of heavy polyrhythmic drum patterns, counterpoint melodies, and lush harmonies. “I use my classical and jazz styling as the basis.”

GemimindBeatz’s breakthrough mixtape Macro-Wave was his first self-produced showcase, and he’s since created an independent studio MailBox Money in Bushwick, Brooklyn alongside fellow artists and collaborators YeVetta, Bishop 98baby, and 10PushUps.

“Wits End” is available now.

My Next Read: Music Lessons By Bob Wiseman

0

Bob Wiseman believes most things in life are universal or, as Lauryn Hill says, everything is everything. Bearing in mind that advice, Wiseman writes about finding the link between music and daily life, like what is common between Mary Margaret O’Hara, hiding around the corner with the lights turned off in order to record herself and his 5-year-old insisting he stop hurrying to her dance lesson and marvel at the fluff ball she is blowing toward the ceiling. Each entry is unique and compellingly written, but the themes throughout — on improvisational music, life lessons, and conflict — are ubiquitous.
