Shania Twain’s The Woman In Me: Diamond Edition To Be Released October 2

0

International icon Shania Twain, the best-selling female country artist of all-time in the US, announced the 25th anniversary of her GRAMMY-winning breakthrough album with The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition, this morning on Good Morning America during their “Summer Concert Series.” Watch the performance HERE.

Available October 2, via Mercury Nashville/UMG Recordings, Inc., the Diamond Edition contains a newly remastered version of the genre-busting, multi-platinum album.  The Diamond Edition also includes previously unreleased tracks, live recordings, and mixes that trace the evolution of an album that changed the way country music sounded. The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition will be available in two- and three-CD configurations, with the remastered album available in LP and Limited-Edition color variant LP versions, as well.

The three-CD box set contains 16 previously unreleased tracks, including five live performances recorded in December 2019 during Twain’s residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, and an entire “Shania Vocal Mix” containing early takes of 11 songs from nearly a year before the album’s release. In addition to the five Las Vegas performances, the “Live & Remixed” disc, available on both the two- and three-CD editions, features two tracks recorded in September 1998 at Dallas’ Reunion Arena for the Shania: Live DVD that also was carried on DirecTV; and nine remixes that show how Twain and producer, Robert John “Mutt” Lange, continued to adapt her sound as she began to cross into pop and international markets — and even into dance clubs.

Eight of the 12 songs from The Woman in Me appeared on Billboard‘s country singles chart, with four — “Any Man of Mine,” “(If You’re Not in It for Love) I’m Outta Here!” “You Win My Love” and “No One Needs to Know” — reaching No. 1. “Any Man of Mine” also gave Twain her first Top 40 crossover hit. The Woman in Me spent 29 weeks atop the country albums chart and was 1995’s best-selling country album. It won a GRAMMY for Best Country Album in 1996 and later was ranked No. 8 on CMT’s list of 40 Greatest Country Albums.

The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition is accompanied by a 48-page booklet containing liner notes from Twain, a 3,000-word essay written by renowned pop-culture journalist Eve Barlow, and photographs from John Derek, Albert Sanchez, Mark Tucker, Bo Derek, and Alexander E. Harbaugh.

The Woman in Me, Twain’s second album, debuted at No. 65 on the Billboard country chart in February 1995, entering the Billboard 200 three weeks later at 197. The album continued to climb steadily, finally hitting No. 1 on the country chart in July, the same week “Any Man of Mine” became Twain’s first chart-topping country single. By that point, the album was already gold; by the end of 1995, it had sold 4 million copies, making it the year’s top-selling country album. In 1996, it passed Patsy Cline’s Greatest Hits to become the best-selling album by a female country artist (a title Twain’s 1997 follow-up, Come on Over, would claim in 1999). The Woman in Me reached Diamond status for shipments of 10 million copies in 1997, then 12 million in 2000. It has sold an estimated 20 million copies worldwide.

Twain has sold 48 million albums in the US, making her the sixth best-selling female artist in the country, and 100 million albums worldwide. She is the only female artist to have three consecutive albums certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association for shipments of 10 million units.

James Bay Teams Up With Apple Music To Release ‘At Home With James Bay Session’

0

Today James Bay announces his collaboration with Apple Music as part of their latest installment of the Apple Music At Home Session series. For the special edition of the series James covers “Don’t Look Back In Anger” by Oasis and “Trouble” by Coldplay.

On the collaboration Bay said: “It’s funny, I didn’t really like Oasis or Coldplay as a kid. I picked up a guitar at 11 years old and wanted to be The Rolling Stones, Clapton, Hendrix. But as I got deeper and deeper into songwriting and studying great songs, I came to love Oasis, Coldplay and more great modern songwriters. I totally fell in love with the music. So much so that I now sit and play their songs to myself on guitar, that’s why I chose them, they’re just so timeless and brilliant.”

The session is just one of many recent achievements for Bay as he has taken the world by storm with his current single  “Chew On My Heart.”Performing on The Today ShowMahogany Sessions, and recently created his own 45 minute 10-song solo set on YouTube in support of #SaveOurVenues– the UK crowd fundraiser started to protect UK grassroots music venues at risk for permanent closure dur to COVID-19.

Also announcing today Bay will be performing “Chew On My Heart” for the song’s late night US tv debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Tuesday, August 25th! Be sure to tune in for what will be a memorable performance!

The track has continued to climb as it has entered the Top 30 at Triple A & Hot AC radio, hit over 10 million global streams and Rolling Stone recently praised it with: “If “Chew On My Heart” is any indication of what his forthcoming album is going to sound like, it seems like the musician is taking his sound in a more positive direction.”

In addition, today Bay announced he has been selected by Music Venue Trust (MVT) as one of their seven new artist patrons. MVT represent hundreds of grassroots music venues throughout the UK and have created patrons in four major categories: Artist, Broadcasting, Industry and Politics. During the current COVID-19 pandemic MVT patrons have played a vital role in raising awareness and funds through high profile campaigns such as #saveourvenues, which to date have raised over £2.5m for grassroots music venues in crisis. Bay joins the already impressive roster of MVT artist patrons who include Sir Paul Mcartney, Bill Bragg, Frank Turner, KT Tunstall and Elbow among many others.

On joining the MVT Bay said: “It’s vital that we don’t lose any music venues. They are so important to every artist’s growth, learning how to really turn a live show from a good night to a great one.”

Diana Krall Announces New Album This Dream Of You, Available Worldwide On September 25

0

Diana Krall will release her new album, This Dream Of You on September 25th.  The first single from the album, “How Deep Is The Ocean,” is a reimagining of the Irving Berlin classic.

This Dream Of You, produced in May 2020 by Ms. Krall, was mixed by Al Schmitt, who worked closely with the artist to achieve notable intimacy and immediacy with her voice in the final balance.

The performances come from sessions in 2016 and 2017, on which Krall worked with her friend and longtime creative partner, Tommy LiPuma.  Mr. LiPuma passed away in 2017 at the age of 80.

The album features Krall in a quartet with long-time colleagues, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton and Anthony Wilson on “Almost Like Being In Love” and “That’s All”, as well as a trio with Christian McBride and Russell Malone who play on “Autumn in New York” and “There’s No You.”

The duos include a wonderful first-take performance of “I Wished On The Moon” from Krall and bassist, John Clayton and two vocal cuts – “More Than You Know” and “Don’t Smoke In Bed” with accompaniment by pianist, Alan Broadbent, who also provided the string orchestration for “But Beautiful” and string arrangement on “Autumn In New York.”

The final session for this album took place at Capitol Studios with an ensemble featuring guitarist, Marc Ribot, the fiddle of Stuart Duncan and a rhythm section of Tony Garnier on bass and Karriem Riggins on drums. This line-up played “Just You, Just Me,” Irving Berlin’s “How Deep Is The Ocean” and the Bob Dylan song, “This Dream Of You,” on which Randall Krall plays accordion.

This Dream Of You is music for right now but it is also a “long playing record,” one that feels like a movie that you might share with someone because you know they’ll stay with it until the final reel. As Diana says, “If ‘But Beautiful’ is the overture, then ‘Singing In The Rain’ is the end title.”

This Dream Of You – Tracklist:

  1. But Beautiful
  2. That’s All
  3. Autumn In New York
  4. Almost Like Being In Love
  5. More Than You Know
  6. Just You, Just Me
  7. There’s No You
  8. Don’t Smoke In Bed
  9. This Dream Of You
  10. I Wished On The Moon
  11. How Deep Is The Ocean
  12. Singing In The Rain

Diana Krall is the only vocalist, in the jazz category, to have nine albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy Awards, ten Juno Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums.

With Over 20,000+ Streams & Counting, Hamilton, ON’s Pop Artists BUBL T’S Release EDM Version of “Dance In the Moment” — Available Now!

0

When it comes to pushing the boundaries of pop, Canadian artists Bubl T’s says “all things are fair game.” Nowhere is this more exemplified than on their newest single, “Dance In The Moment” and its EDM version — available now!

Featuring esteemed musicians in their own rights — Martina Aswani, Alex Whorms, Robert Bruce, Mark Shannon and Ruth Chan — Bubl T’s embrace a wide spectrum of genres and influences while creating their own unique brand of sound: catchy, fun and danceable pop songs with solid melodies, engaging structure, and great production.

“Lyrically, the song reveals the thoughts of a young woman at a busy dance club who is only interested in dancing,” Bubl T’s say about the track. “Ultimately, she’s happy when she connects with someone to dance with for the night.

“That’s all she’s really after.”

The EDM version of “Dance In The Moment” lands as a sensual and atmospheric track, while its pop-version counterpart, set for release later this year, comes in with a more driving, stronger musical theme throughout. “Ruth did the EDM arrangement of this song,” the band says. “She took all the vocal melodies and chord progressions from the original, but wove them in her own way.”

With over 20,000+ streams across Spotify and counting, Bubl T’s have released three additional singles since stepping onto the scene earlier this year: “Strange Reaction,” “Ready for Love,” and “Loser.”

“Dance In the Moment (EDM Version)” is available now.

Award-Nominated Multi-Talented Synth-Pop Artist GRUMPY KITTY BOY Gets Authentic & Reflective in Debut Single, “Airplane Wings”

0

Award-nominated and internationally esteemed Canadian artist Juro Kim Feliz is channelling his synth-pop alter ego Grumpy Kitty Boy and encouraging listeners to live authentically in this, his debut single, “Airplane Wings” — available now.

The song is all about examining life and relationships, even if it means risking loss or regret.

It’s a series of notions Feliz knows personally and all too well. “Switching gears in life is a tough choice to make,” he confides. “Arriving in Montreal from Manila as a student in December of 2013, the struggle to feel secure and find a place to call home became a recurring theme for me throughout the years.

“As I focused on my art as a contemporary music composer, other opportunities came to expand the boundaries of my world,” he continues. “Eventually gaining Canadian permanent status after more than six years, the decision to switch directions and develop a singer/songwriter career felt like a fresh start in living life.

“Then, I was invited to do a four-week artist residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts,” Feliz says of the plane ride to Nebraska and ultimate inspiration for “Airplane Wings.” “Writing the lyrics first, fleeting thoughts took off from staring at blue skies amidst examining personal feelings of being distant, unwanted, and left out.

“Riding an airplane captured an added feeling of placelessness in the making of the song, which was both liberating and overwhelming.”

With studies completed at the University of the Philippines and McGill University, Feliz has performed across Asia, Europe and North America as a heralded contemporary classical composer. He was nominated for a 2019 Golden Balangay Award for Excellence for Music and Entertainment, and has been a resident of the Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts (2018), the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts (2019), and the Canadian Music Centre Ontario (2018 – 2020).

A long-time pianist and keyboardist, Feliz soon honed in on songwriting as his sonic vehicle of choice. “It’s the most appropriate channel to express my world view,” he muses. “I figure: Be authentic! Embrace the grumpy!”

Harnessing the pull towards video game music and inspirations from The Midnight, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Sufjan Stevens, and Owl City’s synth pop sound, for example, Feliz started producing instrumental tracks in lieu of forming a band. “That process caters well to my composer instincts,” he shares. “This is an opportunity to express the ‘grumpy life’ through an alter-ego’s fictional eyes.”

It was the latch onto the pouting cat emoji that is Grumpy Kitty Boy, however, whose ‘world’ would become “as clear as daylight,” he says. “Through this, I can tell stories and be in touch with real, deep feelings about reality that’s often left ignored and suppressed in people’s conception of emanating positivity in life.”

“Airplane Wings” is available now.

What Is the Importance of Music Education

0

Math, literature, social studies, and science are subjects that have dominated the academic sphere for years. They are fundamental building blocks that our society cannot survive without. But what if there is another subject that could improve performance in all of these areas? What if there was something you could study to enhance your language skills, critical thinking skills, emotional moderation, and all-around brain function.

Proper music education enables success not only in art itself but in all areas academically and socially. According to research, music students have one of the highest rates of attendance — over 90%. It’s unsurprising the increasing pool of interest in the training. Because many students are often overburdened with other schoolwork, they rely on assignment help online to free up time for musical practice. You could see that the more they know about music, the more they want to discover.

Music and Mental Connections

Music is unique; it demands focus, vision, and critical thinking while promoting individualism and creativity. Music requires you to participate in mental exercises. Deciphering the notes and rhythms in one part of the brain to create beautiful and emotional melodies.

Playing an instrument utilizes the visual auditory and motor cortices to actualize this mental workout, strengthening the connections between the three areas. Neuroscientists have even found that the corpus callosum, the link between the left brain and right brain, is much more developed in musicians than in non-musicians. You do not have to be a prodigy or genius to experience the benefits of music.

Scientists have identified several learning disorders that can benefit and be treated with music education. Our understanding of these disorders shows us that they are simply miscommunication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. ADHD, for example, is the missing timing of the neural impulses between three areas of the brain – the visual auditory and motor cortices — the very three areas that play music affect the strongest.

So, imagine what a consistent workout regimen through music education could do to improve the mental capabilities of a struggling student. It is shown that on average, a recipient of music education IQ is 7.5 higher than someone not studying music.

Music for Young Minds

Music education must become an essential part of the academic curriculum at a young age. Most neuroscientists believe that for maximum benefits, a child should be introduced to musical training before the age of seven. Music quite literally shows the way that we learn. An experiment was done on 18 newborns between one and three days old.

They were placed inside an fMRI machine to examine brain activity while being subjected to different types of stimulation. When listening to the mother’s voice, the scan showed that all areas of the brain used for musical training were being used by the babies to understand their voices.

What’s the moral of this experiment? We use music to understand language, tone, cadence, and emotion. We are innately musical beings, so encouraging that growth could only make us better at what we know.

In conclusion, music is not just an art; it’s an idea; you hear the melody, which moves you. It makes you feel emotions. The notes and rhythms imply things, but it’s up to the lease not to give that meaning. Music is abstract; it doesn’t need anything outside of itself to be understood. Music empowers people to create and experience things they would have no means of experiencing otherwise.

In a Nutshell…

Music can build you up or tear you down. It is a powerful force that needs to be understood; it stands tall on its own and deserves to be taught for that reason alone. It encourages discomfort as you try something new; it promotes critical thinking to analyze its infinite possibilities. It encourages creativity as you work to interpret a beautiful piece of music and encourages self-discipline and personal growth as you work to better your talents.

Imagine a world where music education is another part of the daily curriculum. All students head to piano class after algebra or choir rehearsals after launch. A more well-rounded student body produces higher test scores or even a higher graduation rate.

In a lot of ways, we can predict it’s benefits, but in a lot of ways, we also can’t. So, encourage yourself to ask this single question: how can an investment in future generations like music education the landscape of tomorrow?

Music and Education: Advantages of Music on Education

0

Many people tend to believe that music and arts are not important to the students. They only perceive them as tools for extracurricular activities. Others believe that these programs are not beneficial at all and that they are just time-wasting activities. This is, however, not the case, as music education has enormous benefits to the student’s life, especially those who are still in their early stages of life.

  • Music plays a central role in ensuring that the learner can advance academically. It is also a useful component during the earlier learning years, especially in kids.
  • Music also gives the students a gateway or room for expression of one’s feelings in a manner that is motivating.
  • It also bolsters learners’ critical thinking abilities.

It is no doubt that music education, whether it is the instrumentals or the vocals, plays a vital role in ensuring the success of the learner.  This happens by enabling the student to improve on the concentration levels and inculcating critical thinking in the learner. This improves a student’s academic performance, especially in custom essay writing.

Also, music has a positive impact on the brain of the learner. This means that is a student is subjected to music daily, then there is a higher likelihood that the responses of the brain improve significantly. Thus, revealing the incredible impact of music education on learners.

Importance of Music Education

There are advantages that come with music education. These benefits are on the elementary skills of the learner. Besides, the advantages are also on the enhancement of student’s learning and skill development in diverse areas.

Language Development

The relationship between music education and students’ development lies in the impact that the vice has on language development. This makes young learners benefit from music education immensely, not forgetting the importance of language development in young ones.

According to research, music education plays a vital role in the physical development of the section of the left brain. The left part of the brain is the one responsible for language processing. Music rewires the circuits in a manner that’s second to no other.

Besides, there is a relationship that has been established amongst language, music, and socialization. The development of the language in the young learner works towards enhancing that parts of the brain that are responsible for the processing of music.

Music education enables the learner to have verbal confidence. This, in return, bolsters the learner’s social life, as he or she gains the skills to communicate and socialize effectively. Lastly, this makes the young ones competent with their diction.

Smartness

As per research conducted on children aged six years for nine months, the kids were trained on playing piano and vocals. After nine months, it was discovered that their intelligence quotient had improved. This is because of the juxtaposition that was made concerning another group that was given drama lessons and a third group that never underwent the lessons at all.

The group that was participating in the piano and voice lessons scored three points higher than their counterparts. The group that was participating in the drama lessons did not score highly in the IQ test. However, there were significant changes that were observed in terms of their behavior. These social behaviors were not observed in the piano and voice group.

Improvement of Spatial Skills

Research on music education reveals that there is a relationship between music and temporal intelligence in children. Music education enables children to have a clear vision of the elements that belong to each other for a specified period. A good example is playing computer games.

Final Thoughts

Conclusively, music education impacts the learners’ know-how, as those who take part in the practice tend to score high in tests. Research also reveals that learning institutions whose art and music tutors are of exceptional quality are likely to produce the best instructors.

When the surrounding environment comprises of creativity and innovation, smart people who are taking part in activities that bring joy, even the learners who are not into art and music would definitely start doing better. This means that the surrounding has a great impact on people. For instance, in the case of negative surroundings, people mainly become pessimistic and vice versa.

Finally, since music education improves the concentration of the learner, the act means that their memory retention ability also suffers a good deed. In many cases, persons who have reaped the benefits of music education tend to remember information faster as compared to the rest who have not experienced the same.

4 Tips for Students to Effectively Use Music to Spark Creativity in Writing

0

Writer’s block is an enormous problem that every writer has to deal with. Even the most renowned authors will tell you that they’re not immune to this age-old problem. Despite their creativity and writing prowess, they also struggle with this problem at some point. Now imagine what it can do to a student.

Writer’s block can inhibit the flow of ideas and make student’s well run dry. Even after putting efforts to rack their mind for ideas, it just remains blank.

This is an extremely strong force that prevents most students from completing assignments. While postponing work is an option for students, there’s always a better way to handle writer’s block.

Students can use music to spark creativity and enhance the flow of ideas. Music helps to stimulate the brain naturally. It inspires you to write and floods you with ideas.

But what is the best way for students to effectively use music to spark creativity? This guide highlights how students can use music to overcome writer’s block.

Establish Your Writing Goals

To get the right inspiration for your writing, you must first identify your writing goals. By writing down what you hope to communicate with your audience, you will be able to select music that will spark the right emotions.

Some questions to ask that will determine what music to play include:

  • What is my theme? Am I writing about politics, is it a story about natural calamity, or am I discussing religion?
  • What emotions do I intend to evoke with my writing?
  • What tone do I intend to adopt? Is it friendly, serious, or abstract?

The answers to these questions should enable you to select the best music to incorporate in your writing process to trigger the flow of ideas.

Go for Music that Complements Your Writing Goals

Music creates the right mood for your writing. Stirring the right emotions should get students closer to achieving their writing goals. It’s, therefore, important to select a playlist that is related to the topic of choice.

So how do you choose the right music? Your writing goals should inform your selection of music. Make sure you choose music that complements your goals in order to evoke the right type of emotions.

If you’re working on custom writing about natural calamities, listen to music with lyrics that are ideal for emotional topics. Music from artists like Adele should inspire you to write on emotional topics.

On the other hand, if you decide to write on positive topics, consider listening to songs composed by Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, among other similar artists. These artists are known for creating music that develops positive feelings in listeners.

While the suggestions above work for most students, not everyone has the same taste for music. Music is personal. So choose songs that will help you trigger the most creativity.

Listen Before You Start Writing

Once you’ve selected your songs, take enough time to listen to them. Listening to the lyrics and understanding them will put you in the songwriter’s mind. You’ll get insights into what the artist intended to pass across through their art.

Meanwhile, you can close your eyes and reflect on your content. In addition to getting more ideas for your content, listening to music will help to spark emotions and get you in the mood to write.

As you listen to music, have a place where you can jot down any ideas that come to mind. 10-15 minutes should be enough to absorb the music and get a few ideas that will help you write a better essay. You’ll be surprised your essay might take a different angle than you anticipated.

Start Writing

When you start writing, music can help you focus. This can happen in two ways. First, you may have too many ideas in your head, which can easily make you distracted. Listening to music can assist you to control the flow ideas and get rid of any distractions.

Second, when writing in a silent room, don’t you ever feel the silence being extremely loud? For most students, it does. The best way to deal with it is to have some smooth music in the background.

Better still, you could listen to some instrumentals to increase your concentration span. Make sure the volume is low to medium because blasting music can reduce concentration.

Indeed arts feed each other, especially in this case where music can inspire students’ writing. Most times, students listen to music while on a morning run or when taking a bus home only to discover a writing idea buried within the song’s lyrics.

And it’s not that alone. The mood the music sets can inspire students to write even when experiencing writer’s block. So make music part of your writing, and you will have a story to tell!

4 Reasons to Take Online Music Lessons During a Pandemic

0

It’s not a secret that 2020 hasn’t gone the way anyone expected. Since it looks like things will remain the same for awhile, people are looking for ways to cope. One possibility is to consider using the time spent at home to learn how to play a musical instrument. From the best online guitar lessons for kids Toronto to piano lessons for an adult, there’s something for just about everyone.

Why online music lessons during a pandemic? Here are some reasons that might apply in your case.

Maintaining Healthy Habits

Many of the things you used to do in order to care for your physical and emotional well being are off the table right now. That means you need to find healthy substitutes that will keep you going for the foreseeable future. Along with creating a home gym and rediscovering the delights of taking walks in the evenings or early mornings, consider the idea of taking music lessons online.

The lessons give you something to look forward to during the day, much like you used to look forward to a meal out with friends or a trip to the gym. There’s also the virtual interaction with the instructor so you actually get to talk to another human being. Even the time you spend rehearsing in between lessons provides one more way to occupy your time and enjoy the day a little more.

Finally Doing Something You’ve Wanted to Do For a Long Time

In your heart of hearts, there was always a desire to learn how to play a musical instrument. Given the fact that you have the time now, why not use it to fulfill that desire?
