Albums eligible for 2020 Polaris Music Prize consideration must be released between May 1, 2019 and May 31, 2020. An independent jury of music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers from across Canada determines the Long List and Short List. Eleven people from the larger jury pool are then chosen to serve on the Grand Jury. This Grand Jury will select the Polaris Music Prize winner.

Walk Off The Earth releases flavourful anthem in time for Canada Day

0

With less than one week away, there’s no denying that Canada Day is going to be different than in years past but what hasn’t changed is our strong Canadian pride and love for all things local.

That’s why beloved Canadian Juno-winning artists, Walk Off The Earth have teamed up with French’s Ketchup for Canada Day to create an uplifting and unique rendition of O Canada using ketchup bottles as their main source of instrumentation! Tapping, squeezing the bottle, tossing around french fries, and even creating a flute from the bottle!

Check out the band’s video below for an uplifting and unique rendition of the national anthem to hopefully share and inspire other Canadians.

1-minute tip for artists: Read a kids’ book.

Just as there are certain smells or songs that can take us back in time, picking up a book you loved as a kid can also be a mind-bending experience.

Standing Room Only! Live Music Returns to Toronto’s The Senator Restaurant this weekend!

0

The historic and incomparable Senator Restaurant, long associated with live music, proudly introduces a new LIVE concert series for the summer: the ‘Senator Serenade from the Balcony’ — starting this Friday, June 26th!

The Victoria Street mainstay has taken musical matters into their own hands, transforming their balcony into a well-spaced stage 25 feet off the ground to ‘Serenade’ patrons and passers by alike every week from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.

“It’s a Senator Serenade from the Balcony,” Senator Restaurant operations manager Sybil Walker enthuses of creative and safe workaround to satisfy Toronto live music lovers in the time of COVID-19. “In the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons, we are hoping to raise our community’s spirit with this balcony concert series.”

And speaking of lemonade, a freshly squeezed selection of the restaurant’s summertime specialty will be on sale at street level by Senator staff, as well as pastries, sweets, coffee, tea, and more.

First up this Friday, June 26th will feature multi-award winning Toronto vocalist Ori Dagan performing six feet apart alongside guitarist Nathan Hiltz and saxophonist Alison Young.

Located directly behind Yonge-Dundas Square, the outdoor endeavours will continue throughout the summer. Audiences at home can tune into the livestream via the Senator’s Facebook page, and have the opportunity to tip performers virtually.

After a year of milestone achievements for ASCAP music creators, two standout singles take home top honors. “Sucker” (The Jonas Brothers), co-written by ASCAP songwriter Louis Bell and published by Sony/ATV Tunes LLC, takes Song of the Year. Most Streamed Song of the Year goes to “Old Town Road (Remix) Feat. Billy Ray Cyrus” (Lil Nas X), co-written by ASCAP hitmakers Jozzy and Trent Reznor and published by Form and Texture Inc., Kobalt Music and Songs by MPA Music Publishing Accelerator.
