0

Matchbox Twenty, the multi-platinum, hit-making pop rock band, announced today a 50+ date summer tour. Produced by Live Nation, “Matchbox Twenty 2020” will get underway on July 17 at the Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem, PA and will wrap-up with an epic night under the stars at L.A.’s iconic Hollywood Bowl on September 28. All dates will also feature special guest The Wallflowers.

Matchbox Twenty fanclub members can purchase tickets beginning Tues., Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. ET. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Fri., Jan. 17, starting at 10 a.m. ET at LiveNation.com.

“Matchbox Twenty 2020” is the band’s first tour since 2017, when they reunited for the “A Brief History of Everything” tour to mark the 20th anniversary of their RIAA Diamond-certified debut album Yourself or Someone Like You

Rob Thomas said, “I’m proud to be a part of the greatest pop rock band in the world and I can’t wait to play with them again. Stepping on stage with Matchbox and sharing those songs with the fans feels as natural as breathing to me at this point.”

Matchbox Twenty is working with VNUE’s DiscLive to offer fans limited-edition “instant” collectible CD sets and digital downloads from each show of the tour. Fans may pre-order the CD sets via Ticketmaster for a $5 discount when they purchase their tickets. VIP ticket buyers will receive a download card free with their purchase of every VIP package.

Matchbox Twenty is Kyle Cook, Paul Doucette, Rob Thomas, and Brian Yale. The group has sold over 40 million records worldwide, and earned multiple chart-topping singles, countless accolades, including five GRAMMY nominations, four American Music Award nods, and the 2004 People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Musical Group.”

Fueled by such classic songs as “Real World,” “Back 2 Good” and the No. 1 smash hits “Push” and “3AM,” 1996’s Diamond-certified Yourself or Someone Like You proved a worldwide sensation and instantly established Matchbox as global superstars. 2000 saw the band release the four-times Platinum Mad Season, containing the No. 1 singles “Bent” and “If You’re Gone.” Matchbox’s third release, More Than You Think You Are, also was certified Platinum and featured the No. 1 hit, “Unwell.” 2007’s greatest hits compilation album with six new songs, “Exile On Mainstream” yielded yet another No. 1 track, “How Far We’ve Come,” while the band’s most recent album, 2012’s “North,” exploded into the top position on the Billboard 200 release – Matchbox Twenty’s first-ever chart-topper and No. 1 debut.

Furthermore, Rob Thomas has proven one of the most highly decorated artists of recent years, receiving three GRAMMY Awards, 11 BMI Awards, the first-ever Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award, and two Billboard “Songwriter of the Year” honors for both his chart-topping solo work, as well as collaborations with such legends as Santana, Mick Jagger, and Willie Nelson. Thomas’ collaboration with Carlos Santana on “Smooth” was also named the No. 2 “Most Popular Song Ever” on Billboard’s list of the “100 Most Popular Songs Behind ‘The Twist.'” He was also named to Billboard’s “Top 20 List of Hot 100 Songwriters 2000-2011” at No. 5 and was the top-ranked artist/songwriter on the list. His fourth studio album, 2019’s Chip Tooth Smile featured the hits “One Less Day (Dying Young)” and “Can’t Help Me Now.” Total record sales for his output exceeds 80 million worldwide.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1989 by singer-songwriter Jakob Dylan, The Wallflowers have won two GRAMMY® Awards and earned a string of Gold and Platinum albums since their eponymous debut album in 1992.

The Wallflowers released Bringing Down the Horse in 1996, which featured the hit songs “One Headlight,” “6th Avenue Heartache,” “3 Marlenas” and “The Difference.” “One Headlight” received two GRAMMY® Awards (“Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” and “Best Rock Song”) in 1998 and is also listed at No. 58 in Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Pop Songs.” In 1998, their cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” for the Godzilla soundtrack was Top 10 rock track, as well. The Wallflowers went on to release an additional three albums before going on hiatus in 2005. Dylan then launched a solo career and released 2008’s Seeing Things and Women + Country in 2012. Two years later, the Wallflowers reunited with their sixth studio album, Glad All Over.

Jakob Dylan starred in Echo In the Canyon, one of 2019’s most successful theatrical documentaries. The film and accompanying soundtrack explored the beginnings of the Laurel Canyon music scene and featured new studio recordings of classic songs by The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas and others, as recorded by Fiona Apple, Beck, Cat Power, Eric Clapton, Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, Stephen Stills, Neil Young, and more, all interpreted by, and featuring, Dylan.

The Canadian Music Hall of Fame was established by CARAS in 1978 to acknowledge artists that have made an outstanding contribution to the international recognition of Canadian music. In 2016 the Canadian Music Hall of Fame found a permanent home with the opening of Calgary’s Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (NMC). NMC will launch a new Canadian Music Hall of Fame exhibition on March 20, 2020, featuring personal artifacts and memorabilia from Arden.

“I am so honoured to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame,” said Arden. “I’ve spent my career creating and performing music that I hoped would resonate with others. I feel incredibly humbled to be recognized with this award and to join such an esteemed group of past honourees whose art has helped connect us to one another as Canadians.”

“Jann is a multi-dimensional artist who has been entertaining and captivating audiences for over 25 years,” said Allan Reid, President & CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards & MusiCounts. “I’ve had the great pleasure of working closely with Jann over the years and I have so much respect for her as a songwriter and as a performer but equally for her tenacity and grit. She’s respected and adored for her catalogue of heartfelt music, unapologetic honesty and entertaining quick wit, we are thrilled to welcome her into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.”

Pearl Jam will release their much-anticipated eleventh studio album, Gigaton, on Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records on March 27, 2020 in the US. Internationally, the album will be released and distributed by Universal Music Group. The first single, “Dance of the Clairvoyants”, will be released in the coming weeks.

“Making this record was a long journey,” explains Mike McCready. “It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.”

Gigaton’s cover features Canadian photographer, filmmaker, and marine biologist Paul Nicklen’s photo “Ice Waterfall.” Taken in Svalbard, Norway, this image features the Nordaustlandet ice cap gushing high volumes of meltwater.

Critically Acclaimed Pianist Joey Alexander Announces Major Label Debut Album ‘Warna’

0

Today, Joey Alexander, the Grammy-nominated jazz pianist, composer and bandleader announces the release of his major label debut album, WARNA via Verve Records. Slated for release January 31, the album is primarily a collection of reflective, moving new and original music by an experienced and confident musician. You can pre-order the album here.

Translating as “colour” from Alexander’s native language of Bahasa, WARNA follows four Motéma Music albums that garnered the pianist three Grammy nominations and such honors as historic critics’ and readers’ poll victories in DownBeat and JazzTimes. Joining Alexander on the new album are bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Kendrick Scott, who comprise the core piano trio. On select tracks, Venezuelan-born percussion Luisito Quintero, and flautist Anne Drummond, join on to stunning aural effect.

WARNA unfolds like entries in a road journal. Alexander channels what he sees, hears and feels from his travels into his astonishing melodic gift. The track “Downtime” was written by Joey to honor those special moments that occur off the concert stage, exploring new cities or just hanging out with family and friends.

“I wanted to share with people my original work based on my experiences on the road and onstage playing with different musicians, and the musical conversations,” says Alexander of his new album.

Alexander continues to captivate fans and critics alike. His performance at NPR’s Tiny Desk, was heralded by the outlet as “a set that ranks among the year’s finest jazz performances at the Tiny Desk” and his undeniable talent was showcased on a 60 Minutes interview and a Today Show appearance.

Alexander’s live performances have been enthusiastically received, and he just announced a string of North American tour dates that include Washington, DC, New York, NY, San Francisco, CA, Toronto, ON, and Denver, CO. Additionally, in July he will have two major overseas dates, in Italy at the Umbria Jazz Festival at Teatro Morlacchi and in the Netherlands at the North Sea Jazz Festival.

Alexander arrived in New York as a lightning bolt in the spring of 2014, performing at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s annual fundraising gala. At the helm of a packed-out theater containing some of Manhattan’s most elite arts benefactors, Alexander amazed the audience with a remarkably lyrical rendition of “’Round Midnight.” A standing ovation ensued, and Alexander hasn’t slowed down since. The following spring, the New York Times wrote in an enthusiastic profile that “For a jazz pianist, the mastery entails a staggering breadth of knowledge about harmony, rhythm and orchestration, all converging in an eloquent synthesis. Joey Alexander has a handle on a good deal of that.” From there, he went on to receive three Grammy nominations, with two of Alexander’s four previous albums topping the Billboard Jazz Albums chart.

Canadian Soprano & Author Tonia Evans Cianciulli Wins Canadian Book Award for “The Heart’s Obsession” on Opera Singer Georgina Ann Stirling

0

Canadian soprano, singer/songwriter, and author Tonia Evans Cianciulli has won a Canadian Book Award for her recent release, The Heart’s Obsession — available now!

Forging a thrilling musical journey from across the surging sea of Twillingate, Newfoundland, and beyond, The Heart’s Obsession serves as a standing ovation for one of Canada’s most notable starlets, opera singer, Georgina Ann Stirling, also known as Marie Toulinquet, and ‘The Nightingale of the North.’

Together with her co-author Calvin D. Evans, Cianciulli celebrates the historical ripple effect one woman’s voice carried throughout the world, plus the love and loss the starlet must’ve felt during the increasingly isolating years of her meteoric rise to fame.

Separating fact from fiction through careful examination of the trail of documents and artifacts left behind after the prolific artist’s passing in 1935, and detailing unique insights into challenges faced by professional opera singers, the book brings Stirling’s astounding legacy into the 21st century.

Cianciulli — who has performed with renowned companies such as Opera York, Toronto Opera Repertoire, Opera Mississauga, Sarnia Orchestra, Brampton Lyric Orchestra, and more — also released an album to accompany the book. The Heart’s Obsession book and companion album is a vibrant feather in the cap of the ardent Stirling-devotee; previous releases include a Ron Hynes cover album, Beckon Me Home, “Marie,” “Nightingale Sings,” and more.

The Canada Book Awards recognizes Canadian authors and their outstanding accomplishments, creative achievements, and contributions to the world through literary mediums.

The Heart’s Obsession and The Heart’s Obsession Companion album are available here.
