My Next Read: Bitten by the Blues, The Alligator Records Story by Bruce Iglauer and Patrick A. Roberts

0

It started with the searing sound of a slide careening up the neck of an electric guitar. In 1970, twenty-three-year-old Bruce Iglauer walked into Florence’s Lounge, in the heart of Chicago’s South Side, and was overwhelmed by the joyous, raw Chicago blues of Hound Dog Taylor and the HouseRockers. A year later, Iglauer produced Hound Dog’s debut album in eight hours and pressed a thousand copies, the most he could afford. From that one album grew Alligator Records, the largest independent blues record label in the world.

Bitten by the Blues is Iglauer’s memoir of a life immersed in the blues—and the business of the blues. No one person was present at the creation of more great contemporary blues music than Iglauer: he produced albums by Koko Taylor, Albert Collins, Professor Longhair, Johnny Winter, Lonnie Mack, Son Seals, Roy Buchanan, Shemekia Copeland, and many other major figures. In this book, Iglauer takes us behind the scenes, offering unforgettable stories of those charismatic musicians and classic sessions, delivering an intimate and unvarnished look at what it’s like to work with the greats of the blues. It’s a vivid portrait of some of the extraordinary musicians and larger-than-life personalities who brought America’s music to life in the clubs of Chicago’s South and West Sides. Bitten by the Blues is also an expansive history of half a century of blues in Chicago and around the world, tracing the blues recording business through massive transitions, as a genre of music originally created by and for black southerners adapted to an influx of white fans and musicians and found a worldwide audience.

Most of the smoky bars and packed clubs that fostered the Chicago blues scene have long since disappeared. But their soul lives on, and so does their sound. As real and audacious as the music that shaped it, Bitten by the Blues is a raucous journey through the world of Genuine Houserockin’ Music.

My Next Read: Goin’ Off: The Story of the Juice Crew & Cold Chillin’ Records by Ben Merlis

0

As Hip-Hop first exploded throughout New York City’s boroughs and surrounding towns, a new generation was emerging—the first to be raised on the genre. At the center of it all was a collective known as the Juice Crew, led by the charismatic radio personality Mr. Magic, whose Rap Attack was the first program of its kind on a commercial station. His DJ/engineer Marley Marl pioneered production techniques that defined the golden era of Hip-Hop and formed the basis of Cold Chillin’ Records, which was founded in 1986 by Len Fichtelberg and Tyrone Williams.

Goin’ Off chronicles the rise and fall of Cold Chillin’ and its partnership with Warner Bros. Records. It follows the careers of the label’s recording artists through first-hand accounts of industry players, producers, MCs, and DJs: Roxanne Shanté was a fourteen-year-old battle rapper who spawned the diss record; MC Shan engaged in a legendary cross-borough feud with KRS-One; Kool G Rap was a foundational participant in what the media dubbed “gangsta rap”; Big Daddy Kane’s quick-witted lyricism changed the way people rhyme; the collegiate Masta Ace sought to uplift his community during the height of the crack epidemic; The Genius (aka GZA) co-founded the rap dynasty Wu- Tang Clan; and the enigmatic Biz Markie had the world singing along to his hit anthem “Just a Friend.” Plagued by corporate censorship and a landmark sample-related lawsuit in the 1990s, Cold Chillin’ folded, leaving behind a legacy shrouded in controversy and a catalog that influenced multiple generations of rap artists.

The Full Low Down on Uber’s Liability Insurance and How it Affects You in Case of an Uber Accident

0

Technology has rapidly changed the way people do things on a daily basis. One sector that was affected is your commute to work. Now, with many ridesharing apps available, people like you choose to get to their destination by hiring an Uber or Lyft car, which is akin to a comfy private limo service but much cheaper. Uber is now the leading choice of many commuters because of its user-friendly interface.

As much as you enjoy this ridesharing services, one thing that is inevitable and always unforeseen while you’re on the road is an accident. No one wants an accident and no one plans for it to happen, but it can happen when you least expect it. No matter how cautious you are on the road, you are never in control of other the drivers, pedestrians, road conditions, and even the weather.

Suing Uber if You’re Injured by their Driver in an Accident

If you are riding an Uber or you got into a collision with an Uber driver, can you sue the Uber company and the Uber Driver itself? An Uber and Lyft accident lawyer in Los Angeles said that this is a very good question that riders of Uber must ask themselves at least once in their life.

This ridesharing accident attorney said that you can sue Uber itself or an Uber driver if you are in an accident with an Uber car. This is true whether you are riding in the Uber car as a driver and passenger, you are a pedestrian hit by an Uber driver, or you own another vehicle that has been hit by an Uber car.

However, there are certain things that you must now about suing. According to an expert Uber and Lyft accident lawyer in Los Angeles, suing the Uber company itself or the Uber driver depends on certain scenarios because Uber is using a confusing insurance model based on whether the app was on or off during the time of the accident.

Thus, the amount of insurance money that will be available to you will hinge on whether the app was in use during the moment of impact. For best results of your case, you must contact a reputable firm like West Coast Trial Lawyers to ensure that you will be able to navigate the intricacies of the law, so you can get the just and proper compensation you deserve.

Understanding How Uber’s Insurance Can Impact Your Accident

When you’re in an Uber accident, a ridesharing accident attorney said that an Uber driver has three varying kinds of insurance coverage with their corresponding amounts. These insurance coverage plans come from different sources, depending on the driver’s status or use of the app at the time of the accident. These scenarios are:

  • The Uber Driver’s App is Not Engaged

If the Uber driver is not available to accept any service and the app is not engaged, he is essentially off the clock and is not considered working for Uber. When the Uber car hits you in this scenario, you can only rely on the driver’s own personal insurance policy.

This means that the Uber car is just like any other normal car on the road because the Uber app is inactive. Just because this private car has as an Uber car sticker, it does not mean that you will automatically be covered by the Uber company’s insurance.

In the state of California, there are certain laws that require their drivers to carry insurance. The specifics of these are they must carry at least this minimum coverage:

  • Bodily injury liability coverage which amount to $15,000 per person / $30,000 per accident minimum.
  • Property damage liability coverage which is worth $5,000 minimum.

They also recommend the following, but this can be waived as per new current CA regulations:

  • Uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage at $15,000 per person / $30,000 per accident minimum.
  • Uninsured motorist property damage coverage with $3,500 minimum.

If the Uber app is not engaged, these are the minimum damages you can expect from an Uber driver. Hopefully, your driver has the foresight to get a much bigger insurance coverage. Another option is to go through litigation with the help of your trusted West Coast Trial Lawyers, so you can sue the driver for further damages.

  • The Uber Driver’s App is Engaged

If the Uber Driver’s app is showing as available and he is ready to give rides, this changes the scenario of your insurance claim. If the driver is on the job, but doesn’t have any passenger yet, and he ends up hitting you, you can ask for damages through their own private insurance PLUS you can ask for more because Uber provides a contingency insurance plan for cases like this.

Please be aware that this contingency insurance allows you to get another $50,000 per person ($100,000 per accident) in liability coverage, plus an additional coverage of $25,000 in property coverage for your damaged property like your car repairs.

  • The Uber Driver Has a Passenger on Board

If there happens to be a passenger on board at the time of the accident, the Uber puts the full weight of its insurance protection for their driver. Now, the liability insurance coverage is upped to $1 million and there is another $1 million in property coverage that will be available to you.

As you can see, the amount of money you can claim on insurance will depend on whether you are an Uber passanger at the time of the accident, and whether the driver has engaged the app or not. These factors will determine if you will go after the driver or Uber itself.

Suing the Uber Driver If You’re an Injured Passenger

As a passenger, you will also be covered by the full $1 million Uber policy. On top of that, since you are just the passenger, you will never be at fault. Your claim will be settled by Uber itself because you have availed of their services. You can immediately file an insurance claim against the company. Because things are pretty cut and dry, there is generally no lawsuit in this scenario but a settlement.

Suing the Uber Driver Who Caused an Accident

It is totally possible for you to sue the Uber driver if you where in another vehicle (as a driver or passenger) that was hit by the Uber car. You can also sue if you are a pedestrian who was hit by an Uber car.

Again, in both scenarios, the insurance coverage will be determined based on the engagement of the Uber app. If the driver was off the clock, then Uber will deny liability of any claims. If the driver was in transit to pick up a passenger, then the contingency insurance of Uber will kick in.

Bottom Line

Whatever scenario you are in, it is best to consult a personal injury lawyer to help you with you navigate your legal options. Even if it is not your fault, you have to seek the advice of a lawyer because these insurance agents will try to low ball you and get you to agree to a very low rate that is not commensurate to the trauma, pain, and inconvenience this accident has cause you.

You need an honest and reliable legal consultant to help you sort out the specifics of your case. Lawyers in a reputable firm like the West Coast Trial Lawyers will be your partner to help you gather evidence and organize your documents, so you can focus on the more important aspect of recovery and getting your life back in order post-accident.

How to Care for Your Grand Piano

0

Now, sometimes seen as a symbol of a bygone age of class and refinement, the grand piano occupies a special place in any home. It can be used to entertain guests, further your own knowledge of music, or just look beautiful day in and day out. These are masterwork pieces of art in their own right, and they should be treated as such. To that effect, you shouldn’t neglect your piano in any way and should do everything in your power to keep it in as pristine condition as possible. The instrument will only appreciate in value over time if you keep it looking as beautiful as it did the day it left the workshop.

Here are a few basics to keeping your piano as glorious as it can be:

Keep it clean.

This step might seem obvious, but far too often, people forget to do a regular wipe-down of their grand piano. Even if it gets consistent use, going into all of the nooks and crannies with a duster to remove any unwanted debris will keep your piano clean and ensure that nothing gets into the delicate inner workings. A grand piano cover will prevent airborne dust and hair from becoming lodged between the keys and other internal components. Even if all your piano does is sit there and look pretty, it still needs some TLC from time to time.

Be wary of humidity.

Because of the large amounts of felt, wood, and oxidizable metals found in a grand piano, they are extremely vulnerable to humidity. If the room is too humid, this will lead to a decline in the quality of the materials that make up the piano, as well as risks of the wood expanding due to the moisture. The ideal temperature for a piano is in the realm of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, with a humidity of approximately 50 percent overall. Avoid putting the piano near any vents, heaters, fireplaces, or rooms with large windows. Having both a dehumidifier as well as a humidifier on hand is essential to keeping the room in which you keep your grand piano suitable.

Play your piano.

You don’t have to be Mozart or even truly competent at all with your piano skills to accomplish this task. Beginner piano tips are abundant on the Internet, and you should at least make some effort to play your piano to keep the inner mechanisms in working shape. Not only that, you’ll be able to get a more comprehensive idea as to the state of your piano and diagnose any issues before any technician even shows up. Pianos are meant to be played, plain and simple.

Conclusion

Should your grand piano ever deteriorate to the point where you need to call in a technician, it will likely be an expensive call even before any work has been completed, doubly so if the piano has to be taken to a dedicated workshop beforehand. Using these simple tips, you can delay or even outright prevent the need to have expensive outside help to restore your piano. Ensure that debris is kept away at all times, that it’s in an environment suitable for the materials that make it up, and don’t forget to tickle the ivory once every so often.

Can Music Personality Predict Compatibility

0

Just like temperaments, music personalities have common characteristics and habitual traits. Psychologically, the human mind is attracted to another human mind with similar intellectual features. Meeting someone who eats the same thing you eat, hate the same thing you hate gives you a sense of fraternity and increasing the possibilities of becoming best friends or even life partners. This fact is the same for music personality, and your music preferences reveal quite a lot about your personality having someone with the same music preference, rhythm and lyrical understanding with you. This status will draw you closer and spawn familiarity and closeness. Music personality varies from the diamond in the rough to the precise opposite- unchained melody, also the heart of gold and shining star, each of which has distinct features. So can music personality predict compatibility? Let’s find out.

WHAT DO MUSIC PREFERENCES REVEAL ABOUT PERSONALITY?

The type of music you listen to somewhat speaks a lot about who you are, what you do in your spare time and things you hold in esteem. A person who is a lover of lyrics will most likely love artistic works, nature, and write-ups. A detailed individual with an eye for the most little things, slow to anger and a deep thinker sometimes gets lost in their world. In all, while a person who loves rock music with loud, deep beats will be a fun-filled extrovert with a spicy lifestyle. Parties and trips will be a function for such a person, and a social lifestyle is a good tick.

MUSIC PREFERENCE AND PERSONALITY

So then what relationship lies between music preference and personality? What influence does music preference have on nature? Being a lover of rap music will have you with playlists featuring mostly rap songs. Rap songs are known to depict a high level of lingual understanding. Being able to put deep meaning in everyday words, syncing them with figures of speech and still keeping things on the beat is a challenge. People with this music preference tend to look for deeper meanings even in everyday conversations. Music preference and personality are intertwined concerning everyday life. While they range between introverts and extroverts, their nature is directly affected over a while with regular trap songs. We can, therefore, say that the type of music you listen to can change the way you think and superficially, the way you are.

MUSIC AND PERSONALITY

Artists have an idea of telling their story and selling their point of view through their music, thus telling us a lot about who they are and how they think. Music and personality go hand in hand where the social attributes of a person are concerned. Music is a form of art, a form of expression, communication, and even a view of a lifestyle. Like you cannot give what you don’t have, you also cannot tell what you don’t know. Opera music says a lot about the personality of Oprah Winfrey. The voice and genre tell about a different kind of beauty that takes a lot of endurance, talent, and strength to produce a finished artistic vision. This product is heard in the hearts through the ears, almost telling the story of her life. Music is more than just a word; it is a personality.

PERSONALITY AND MUSIC PREFERENCE

Having registered the influence music preference has on the character, we also have to acknowledge the influence personality has on music preference. Personality and music preference constitutes a significant function of who you’d grow up to be. Nature determines your music preference, a highly religious person will most likely not listen to trap music, and a quiet nerd would surely not opt for rock and roll. The things you like and what you like to do in your leisure would determine the type of music you listen to every day. If you love to play games, then music with an excellent beat would be a regular choice, if you write articles, then music with a solemn beat and reliable lyrical power will be an option. Although once in a while, people explore other music genres outside their regular choice, when all things are equal your habits determine your choice where personality and music preference is concerned.

WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE DIFFERENT MUSIC

This question is the same as asking why people have different personalities and temperaments. An average human will intellectually remain the way he/she is from birth in the next ten years except affected by the people met, experiences seen and abstract feelings he/she has come in contact within life. Someone somewhere may have gone through the same thing you have similar yielding personality and mode of thinking. This reason is why you should check music interests in dating profiles before choosing a lover. You can, therefore, relate with such a person in words and thoughts, the same way someone somewhere has absolutely no connection with anything you have experienced, which yields different personalities. And as previously stated explains why people like different music.

CONCLUSION

What music preferences reveal about your personality will determine the length of relationships with someone with standard features and someone with distinct characteristics. Your music preferences and personality in comparison to your personality and music preferences, tell vividly why people like different music. Also, having the same musical character does predict compatibility and mutual intellectual capability. It does not ensure the longevity of the relationship as sometimes something new and diverse is just what you need to spice up your lifestyle. Music and personality can, therefore, predict compatibility.

THE BLACK CROWES Announce 2020 North American Tour

0

The Black Crowes’ Chris and Rich Robinson will herald the thirty-year anniversary of their landmark quintuple platinum debut album Shake Your Money Maker with a world tour beginning June 17 in Austin, Texas. Tickets and VIP packages are on sale now. To celebrate the announce, the band will play two intimate shows, first at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City this evening, followed by the Troubadour in Los Angeles on November 14. More info about tickets will be shared on @theblackcrowes Instagram page. The Black Crowes, which Melody Maker proclaimed as “the most Rock n’ Roll Rock n’ Roll band in the world” will be playing their debut, described by Rolling Stone as, “a guitar-party cracker that marries Southern R&B crunch and Anglo cock-strutting attitude” in its entirety plus all the hits from the band’s illustrious catalogue. The ever-volatile Robinson brothers have not played a show since 2013 when they vowed never to play or speak together again. Thankfully for fans, times seems to have healed these wounds.

Chris Robinson says of reuniting, “I’m thrilled & blessed to be playing with my brother celebrating the music we’ve made & bringing our lives together full circle. Long live Rock n’ Roll & The Black Crowes!”

Rich Robinson adds, “First and foremost, I’m really happy to have my brother back in my life. To be able to play music again together and celebrate the first record we made as kids, is a gift. To have these songs stand up after 30 years is something I could’ve never fathomed.”

In 1990, when journalists were lamenting the death of rock, as cheesy pop and hair metal dominated the charts, Atlanta’s Black Crowes gave the genre a swift and much needed kick in the ass with Shake Your Money Maker. Fueled by singles “Jealous Again”, “Twice As Hard”, “She Talks To Angels”, and the rollicking cover of Otis Redding’s “Hard To Handle” the band immediately took the rock world by storm, topping Rolling Stone’s “Best New American Band Readers Poll” in late 1990.

The Black Crowes went on to release eight studio and four live albums, selling in the tens of millions along the way; they sold out shows around the world; had legendary guitarist Jimmy Page join as a member; got kicked off a tour with ZZ Top for insulting the sponsor; got screwed by bad record deals; got married and divorced, fought amongst themselves and the rest of the world; in other words they’ve done everything a legendary rock group should do. 2020’s reunion and tour produced by Live Nation is sure to further cement the band’s legacy as one of the best and most loved rock bands of all time.
