5 Best Online Jobs For College Students

0

Most students have the same common problem: they need extra cash. Some of them have to pay tuition, while others just need some money to gain financial independence. There are also students who have children, and in this case, the need for extra money is particularly strong. In addition, students have to pay rent and buy food and clothing, just like anyone else.

Some universities offer off-campus jobs. However, they are often not easy to get because of the high demand. Besides, finding a job is a challenging task because students still have to attend classes, prepare for exams, and participate in extracurricular activities. Fortunately, we all live in the internet age so students are no longer limited to office jobs. They can work online, with no need to leave their room, being able to have their own schedules.

Things to Consider Before Applying for a Job

Before you apply for a job, you should prepare. First of all, you need a resume. Include any relevant work experience. However, if you’re a student, the chances are that you don’t have any work experience so you may include relevant extracurricular activities and memberships to clubs at your university or college, along with any skills that can make you look like a good candidate. Make sure to proofread your resume and make it as professional as possible.

You should also figure out exactly what you’re looking for in a job so that you can make the right choice when analyzing hundreds of different options. If your schedule is relatively stable, you can choose part-time jobs. In this case, you will get an hourly pay rate, along with some possible additional benefits. However, if you’re looking for a flexible schedule, you should choose gig jobs. Such jobs are based on contracts between you and employers, and they imply more informal conditions.

Keep in mind that gig workers are responsible for filing their own taxes and handling their business expenses. It’s important that you understand all the differences between gigs, full-time, and part-time jobs so that you can choose an employment arrangement that fits your objectives and needs.

Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien Releases “Brasil” Near-Nine-Minute Song & Short Film Under EOB Moniker

0

Following the non-LP teaser “Santa Teresa”—hailed as “beautifully ambient” by NPREd O’Brien of Radiohead has unveiled the first impression of his debut album under the moniker of EOB.

Written by O’Brien, “Brasil” is a near 9-minute epic that begins life as a plaintive ballad built on the bare bones of O’Brien’s voice and acoustic guitar before blooming into a grandiose motorik rave-up anchored by the rock-solid drumming of Omar Hakim and a hypnotic bassline from O’Brien’s Radiohead bandmate Colin Greenwood. Produced by Flood (who also contributes System 700 synth) and mixed by Alan Moulder, the dimensions of “Brasil” are further expanded by engineer Adam “Cecil” Bartlett’s programming, David Okumu’s guitar playing, and recording engineer Richie Kennedy’s sampler programming.

Director Andrew Donoho’s take on “Brasil” translates the song’s otherworldly feel into a global narrative exploration of the human condition. “‘Brasil’ was one of those tracks just dripping with magic from the very beginning,” Donoho recalls. “Everything started clicking very quickly. Empathy, togetherness, wonder, spirituality, and exploration resonated from the song and the references, and I wanted to write a large scope, otherworldly concept weighted in humanity. Ed and I both shared a love of space and the abstract concepts surrounding time, so I started building a narrative around transcending the physical barriers of our bodies and the temporal barriers of linear experience.”

In O’Brien’s words, “Brasil is a state of mind, not a place or time,” making the song a natural soundscape for a re-imagination of human experience balancing the terror of the elimination of the individual with the beauty of a universal oneness. “H.P. Lovecraft, Kubrick, and Junji Ito have created some of my favorite sci-fi narratives,” he says. “But I’ve always wanted to reinterpret their horrific premises into a more poetic and optimistic notion. What if an alien or higher being were to come to earth to help us achieve a greater existence, and not to destroy us? What would it look like if everyone on earth shared thoughts, experiences, and actions? The theory that humans, as a species, actually represent one large, singular organism has always fascinated me, and I wanted to explore that concept visually through a variety of different character perspectives, mediums, and impressionistic visual effects. All these layers and ideas culminated into our narrative for ‘Brasil.’”

The early 2020 release date of the first EOB album will be revealed shortly, as will the album’s title. The recording of the album began in the fall of 2017 and concluded in early 2019. In addition to the aforementioned production and mixing by Flood and Moulder and contributions from Omar Hakim, Colin Greenwood, Adam “Cecil” Bartlett, David Okumu and Richie Kennedy, EOB’s debut album features Laura Marling, Adrian Utley, Nathan East and Glenn Kotche.

The Modern-Day Involvement and Evolution of Rock

0

After coming to the forefront of the music industry in the late 1940s, rock music has since been integrated into successful digital sectors to enhance its modern-day popularity. While there have long been discussions over whether the genre itself is slowly being phased out as the music industry continues to adapt to social changes, it appears unquestionable that rock and roll still has the credentials to thrive in the foreseeable future.

As a result, we’re going to look at the genre’s gaming connection, while also analyzing how it has evolved to stay relevant.

Gaming Connection

For many, many years, playable music titles, which focus predominantly on the rock genre, have been developed across a range of different consoles. Although it was released back in 2003, Amplitude was one of the earliest releases that allowed for a player-controlled digital rock experience. In addition to creating and publishing Amplitude, Harmonix also sought to expand the possibilities to allow for multiplayer gaming and did so with their 2007 title, Rock Band. Through providing drums, a guitar and a microphone within the original set, gamers could immerse themselves in over 2,000 songs due to the downloadable library that was available through the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 adaptations.

Following the success of the 2007 version, Harmonix eventually released Rock Band 4 on the next generation consoles back in 2015. While the premise of the game remains much the same, it’s development onto contemporary platforms demonstrates the genre’s ability to evolve and succeed in any era. Moreover, aside from the traditional gaming sector, the iGaming market has also developed several slot games around iconic rock stars. Along with the Ozzy Osbourne title available at popular online casino NetBet, there’s also the five-reel Jimi Hendrix slot which includes the rock legend’s music in the background, while the purple haze free spin feature assists in capturing a nostalgic 1960’s music vibe.

How Contemporary Changes Have Affected the Genre and Music Creation

Over the last few years, the increase in streaming platforms has resulted in numerous artists altering how they go about producing their music. Much like in other markets where digital alternatives have negatively impacted upon traditional foundations, in the music industry there has been a decline in album purchases. With newly-developed services like Apple Music and Spotify, listeners are actively able to create their own playlists, which some argue disregards the carefully constructed nature of complete album narratives.

Moreover, the payment structure which surrounds digital services is also influencing the construction of new music. In years gone by, artists were paid by album or singles sales, whereas, in modern-day society, plays which surpass the 30-second mark equate to one stream listen, and thus hold monetary value. Additionally, musicians are adopting short introductions and repetitive hooks to secure stream listens, which is a distinct change from song formats when rock music was at its peak.

Despite Change, There’s a Place for Rock

As mentioned above, there are many variables which have altered the foundations of modern-day music, but, even in spite of that, the rock genre continues to find a place within society. For as long as gaming platforms remain popular, creations such as Rock Band and the Jimi Hendrix slot are going to have the foundations to succeed within an ever-changing society.
