Jim James and The Claypool Lennon Delirium Set Co-Headline Tour

0

Jim James and The Claypool Lennon Delirium have announced plans for a summer 2019 co-headline tour. The two acts will join forces for nine dates across the United States and Canada – beginning June 21 at Salt Lake City’s Eccles Theater and then continuing into early July.

“For over 150 years, the firm of Claypool and Lennon has been providing clients with only the finest in rock and roll delirium and stark raving madness. This summer, I am excited and honored to say that we will be teaming up to offer a brand new twist on one of the most time tested and proven methods for inducing beautifully swirling and whirling delightfully delicious delirium: the healing power of rock and roll!” said James.

“Tour pairing is often a challenge in my world but I think we have a good package with The Delirium and Jim James. Jim’s music, from my perspective, is palatable to the masses yet has just enough eclecticism to keep an oddball like me intrigued. I look forward to shambling around the country with him,” said Les Claypool.

Presales begin Wednesday, March 6 at 10 am (local). Local presales follow on Thursday, March 7 at 10 am (local). All presales conclude Thursday, March 7 at 10 pm (local). All remaining tickets will then be released to the general public on Friday, March 8 at 10 am (local). In partnership with RPM, $1 from every ticket purchased for the Jim James + Claypool Lennon Delirium Summer 2019 Tour will benefit My Morning Jacket’s Waterfall Project, this time benefitting the Young Authors Greenhouse, a nonprofit organization in Louisville, KY that inspires students ages 6-8 from diverse communities to grow their imaginations through writing.

Smithsonian Folkways Celebrates “The Social Power of Music” In New Box Set

0

On February 22,  2019 Smithsonian Folkways Recordings will release The Social Power of Music, a new box set that examines the roles of music in our lives from many angles and through many voices.  Over four CDs, 80+ tracks and an illustrated 124-page booklet, The Social Power of Music presents some of the most powerful moments in Smithsonian Folkways’ vast and ever-expanding catalog, putting them in conversation with each other to highlight the ways song has shaped the societies we live in

The Social Power of Music looks at this music through four different perspectives.  Disc 1: Songs of Struggle channels the visceral power of the fight for civil rights, featuring household names from Folkways’ archives including Woody GuthrieThe Freedom Singers and Pete Seeger, and songs that defined a generation.  Disc 2: Sacred Sounds presents music from many religions and spiritual practices, in some cases drawing from rarely heard or known ceremonies.  Disc 3: Social Songs and Gatherings shows how we use music to come together, often in celebration.  Disc 4: Global Movements looks to the use of roots music in key political movements around the world, tapping into anti-fascist verses, odes to the working class, and polemics against governmental corruption and violence.

The box set, and the idea of music’s centrality to the way people connect to one another, inspired the upcoming Smithsonian Year of Music, which presents music and sound events in Washington, DC and around the country every day throughout 2019.  The series will kick off with a listening party for the compilation on January 2, 2019 at Songbyrd Record Café and Music House in Washington DC.  “The Social Power of Music” will also be the animating theme of the 2019 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, which takes place annually on the National Mall.

Listen to a sampler from the box set here:

The massive scope and virtuosic assembling of this box set may reflect the original vision of Smithsonian Folkways to record and document the entire world.  Songs that rang true in the 1960’s, railing against the plight of women, minorities and human rights, are just as poignant over fifty years later, as the world has begun to roll back much of what was gained by the global civil rights movements. There’s a visceral power, a frisson, in hearing how the lyrics in The Social Power of Music reverberate across generations and cultures.  The hope for the artists making this music at the time, for us listening now, and for those writing new songs inspired by this music, is the same as it ever was: to show us the paths to make a better world.

Brought together on these four discs is music from labels that Smithsonian Folkways has acquired over the years, including Arhoolie, which documented the music of social gatherings throughout the US, and Paredon, which released activist music from around the world, as well UNESCO and Monitor, which documented folk traditions across the entire globe.   Civil rights legend Fannie Lou Hamer, a woman who shook the halls of power, leading a congregation in song with her mind “set on freedom.”  Lebanese musician Marcel Khalife’s quavering voice singing the Palestinian poem “The Passport” about being required to carry a passport in your native land.  Country Joe McDonald’s acerbic Vietnam anti-war song “I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ To Die”.  Hymns of the Old Regular Baptists of Kentucky, the rhythmic call-and-response from African-American railroad worker songs, the blend of high-pitched charango and vocals from Latin American protest singer Suni Paz.

The Social Power of Music is set to remind us of the universality of these moments, showing that through music we are united.

Cardi B Releases Video For New Single “Please Me” With Bruno Mars

0

Cardi B has released her new video for her latest single, “Please Me” with Bruno Mars. The Bruno Mars and Florent Dechard directed “Please Me” video is streaming now on Cardi B’s official YouTube channel and is available at all DSPs and streaming services. Additionally, “Please Me” debuted at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

“Please Me,” produced by Bruno Mars and The Stereotypes arrives mere days after Cardi B received the “Best Rap Album” GRAMMY for her chart-topping, RIAA 2x platinum certified “INVASION OF PRIVACY,” making history as the first solo female artist to win that prestigious category. “Please Me” marks the second collaboration between the GRAMMY winning artists. The first of course being the 3x platinum certified smash hit “Finesse (Remix),” the video for which has amassed over 551 million views since it’s January 2018 release.

The 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards was highlighted by Cardi’s show-stopping performance of her RIAA platinum certified hit single, “Money,” available now for individual streaming and download HERE. The single’s spectacular companion video now boasts over 52 million views via YouTube HERE.

Currently starring on the cover of Harper’s BAZAAR‘s Spring Fashion Issue after recently being named one of Entertainment Weekly‘s “Entertainers of the Year,” Cardi has fast become one of the most high profile stars of the current era. She is currently featured alongside Steve Carrell and Lil Jon in Pepsi’s acclaimed “More Than OK” Super Bowl commercial (streaming HERE).

An array of high profile TV appearances followed last year’s arrival of “INVASION OF PRIVACY,” including a hilarious installment of Carpool Karaoke on CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden and an in-depth special interview on CBS Sunday Morning. Other recent appearances include sitting down on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! during their popular Brooklyn Week, a stellar performance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, and an historic installment of NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she served as both musical guest and the first-ever co-host in show history. What’s more, Cardi tore the house down at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards, performing “Get Up 10” and “Backin’ It Up” with Pardison Fontaine having only just lit up the 2018 American Music Awards with a spectacular rendition of “I Like It” joined by Bad Bunny and J Balvin.

Along with her “Best Rap Album” triumph, Cardi received a number of other nominations from the 61st Annual GRAMMY AWARDS, including “Record of the Year” (for “I Like It”), “Album of the Year” (for “INVASION OF PRIVACY”), and “Best Rap Performance” (for “Be Careful”). Cardi received an additional nod in the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” category, honoring her role on Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You (Feat. Cardi B).” Additionally, Cardi received three 2018 AMA wins including “Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop,” “Favorite Song – Soul/R&B” (for “Finesse” with Bruno Mars), and “Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop” (for “Bodak Yellow”). Cardi is among the most honored artists of the year having recently received a stunning 14 nominations for the upcoming iHeartRadio Music Awards, set to take place March 14th in Los Angeles. For her full list of nominations and for social voting, fans can visit iHeartRadio.com/awards.

The award winning “INVASION OF PRIVACY“ has seen all 13 tracks go on to become RIAA Gold certified or higher. The album is of course highlighted by a truly remarkable string of chart-busting singles, including two #1 classics in the 7x RIAA platinum certified “Bodak Yellow” and the 5x platinum certified smash, “I Like It,” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin, as well the 2x platinum certified “Bartier Cardi,” and platinum certified “Be Careful,” “Ring (Feat. Kehlani),” and “Drip (Feat. Migos).” Furthermore, all of the LP’s remaining tracks have proved gold certified favorites, among them “Get Up 10,” “Bickenhead,” “Best Life (Feat. Chance the Rapper),” “She Bad,” “Thru Your Phone,” and “I Do (Feat. SZA).”

The Smashing Pumpkins And Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds Announce North American Summer Tour

0

Today The Smashing Pumpkins and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds announced they will be hitting the road together for an incredible, can’t miss summer tour. AFI will join as special guest on all dates. The special run of dates will see both artists performing outdoor shows at amphitheaters across North America throughout the month of August. The outing will also include an epic stop at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, CA, more information on that show to be announced soon.

Produced by Live Nation, the 16-city trek will kick off August 8th in Camden, NJ at BB&T Pavilion and make stops in Toronto, Chicago, Dallas, and more before wrapping August 31st in Mountain View, CA at Shoreline Amphitheatre.

Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, March 8th at 10am local time at LiveNation.com.

Formed in Chicago, IL in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins released their heralded debut album Gish in 1991 and found mainstream success with 1993’s 4x multi-platinum Siamese Dream and 1995’s 10x multi-platinum Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. With over 30 million albums sold to date, the two-time GRAMMY®, MTV VMA, and American Music Award winning band remains one of the most influential alternative rock bands in the world.

The seminal group toured their monumental Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour in 2018, which sold over 300,000 tickets across North America and saw them playing sold-out arena shows at venues including The Forum, United Center and Madison Square Garden. The tour was the band’s first in nearly two decades to feature Corgan, Chamberlin and Iha, alongside Schroeder, bassist Jack Bates and keyboardist Katie Cole. Critics were quick to praise the tour as “a massive gift to their fans” (Uproxx), “a welcome reminder of why those early albums resonated in the first place” (SPIN), and “an unforgettably rewarding and often spectacular odyssey” (Forbes).

Noel Gallagher has been one of the UK’s most loved and successful songwriters for over a quarter of a century. His latest album, Who Built the Moon? debuted at #1 in the UK and was certified gold in less than two weeks of it’s release and marked his 10th consecutive chart-topping studio album in the UK — a feat no other artist has ever achieved. After leaving Oasis, Noel successfully launched his solo career as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds with a self-titled album in 2011 which sold 2.5 million albums worldwide. Noel is the former lead guitarist and principal songwriter of Oasis, the 3X GRAMMY nominated UK rock band. Oasis quickly became one of the biggest bands in the world in the 90s, selling over 70 million albums worldwide to date, but, more than that, their music became the soundtrack of a generation.
