San Francisco Engineer Was Dosed by LSD While Repairing a Vintage 1960s Buchla Synthesizer

0

For years, an urban legend circulated online and in documentaries purporting how part of a groundbreaking musical instrument — versions which are stored at a Bay Area university and other institutions — was dipped in LSD.

Online chatter detailed how musicians who used the instrument would wet their finger, touch the device, and then lick their finger to get a little bit of mind-expanding inspiration.

Now this supposed myth may turn out to be a reality.

“There was like a residue … a crust or a crystalline residue on it,” …About 45 minutes later, Curtis began to feel a little strange. He described it as a weird, tingling sensation. He discovered this was the feeling of the beginnings of an LSD experience or trip. The sensation lasted roughly nine hours.

JAGGED LITTLE PILL Broadway Cast Announced

0

Producers Vivek J. Tiwary, Arvind Ethan David, and Eva Price are pleased to announce the original Broadway cast of JAGGED LITTLE PILL, a new musical inspired by the groundbreaking Grammy-winning album by Alanis Morissette, beginning preview performances November 3, 2019 at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 W 44th St., NYC). The Broadway production will star Kathryn Gallagher (Spring Awakening), newcomer Celia Rose Gooding, Derek Klena (Anastasia), Sean Allan Krill (Honeymoon in Vegas), Lauren Patten (Fun Home) and Drama Desk Award Nominee Elizabeth Stanley (On the Town) all of whom reprise their roles from the musical’s record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at American Repertory Theater (A.R.T) last summer. Tickets for the musical are on sale to the general public today, at Telecharge.com.

Completing the Broadway company are Yeman Brown, Jane Bruce, John Cardoza, Antonio Cipriano, Ken Clark, Laurel Harris, Logan Hart, Max Kumangai, Heather Lang, Ezra Menas, Kelsey Orem, Nora Schell, Kei Tsuruharatani and Ebony Williams.

Featuring lyrics by seven-time Grammy Award winner Alanis Morissette and music by Morissette and six-time Grammy winner Glen Ballard, JAGGED LITTLE PILL is directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Waitress, Pippin) and features an original story by Academy Award-winning writer Diablo Cody (Juno, Tully). Movement Direction & Choreography is by Olivier Award winner and frequent Beyoncé collaborator Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Musical Supervision, Orchestrations and Arrangements are by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal, American Idiot). The musical will celebrate its official opening night on Thursday, December 5, 2019.

JAGGED LITTLE PILL is an exhilarating new musical inspired by the themes and raw emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette’s seminal album of the same name. The Healys appear to be a picture-perfect suburban family — but looks can be deceiving. When the cracks beneath the surface begin to show, they must choose between maintaining the status quo or facing harsh truths about themselves, their community, and the world around them. “Urgent, wildly entertaining, and wickedly funny in all the right places” (The Boston Globe), this original story is ignited by Morissette’s groundbreaking music – including such hits as “You Oughta Know,” “Head Over Feet,” “Hand In My Pocket,” and “Ironic” – plus brand-new songs written for the show. Hailed by The New York Times as “a big-hearted musical that breaks the mold,” JAGGED LITTLE PILL “takes on the good work we are always asking new musicals to do: the work of singing about real things.”

Atlantic Records has partnered with JAGGED LITTLE PILL for the release of the Original Broadway Cast Recording, adding the production to the label’s elite roster of Grammy Award-winning artists and cast albums.

The world premiere production of JAGGED LITTLE PILL ran for 79 sold-out performances, from May 5 – July 15, 2018, at American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA. The 10-week engagement marked the longest-running and highest-grossing production in the theater’s history. Variety declared the musical “Triumphant! Not since Rent has a musical invested so many bravura roles with so much individual life.” BuzzFeed described the show as “stirring, breathtaking and exceptionally relevant…work this ambitious broadens our perspective of what theater can do.” NPR declared, “Morissette’s anthems are now for the ages. Visually interpreted in Jagged Little Pill with an absorbing intimacy and ingenuity, they reach down to our deepest raw selves, regardless of who we are.”

Released on June 13, 1995, the tremendous success of Alanis Morissette’s album Jagged Little Pill skyrocketed her to become the bestselling international debut artist in history; a title she still holds, with the record’s sales reaching 33 million copies worldwide. Nearly 25 years after its release, Jagged Little Pill continues to be one of the Top 20 Best-Selling Albums of All Time. With nine eclectic and acclaimed albums released over the subsequent twenty years, Morissette’s music has garnered 7 Grammy Awards (with 14 nominations), a Golden Globe nomination, and total sales of over 60 million albums.

The highest selling albums in history

0

With the proliferation of digital technologies that allow people to create music, it’s easy for anyone to claim that they are a musician. While creating music may be easier today than it was a few decades ago, getting an album to succeed is still just as difficult. This is the reason why many new artists have failed to beat the sales records set by the albums of the 1970s. If you have tried your hand in singing with no success, why not find a music artist website builder and try your luck with creating an audience around your music first?

Below is a list of the highest selling albums since the beginning of the modern history of music. Here, we are mentioning only the western music that covers the US selling. This list is provided by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which is a trade organization whose core business is to represent the recording industry in the United States of America.

1.      Eagles – Their Greatest Hits 1971 – 1975

While many would have thought this place would be taken by Michael Jackson, the truth is that this achievement belongs to the album with the Eagle’s greatest hits between 1971 and 1978. The album sold more than 38 million copies. It made it into the number one slot in 2018.

2.      Michael Jackson – Thriller

This would not have been a list of some of the highest selling albums if it did not feature Michael Jackson in one form or another. With 33 million copies sold, the album Thriller takes the second place in the list. The king of pop’s Thriller occupied the number one sport a year after its release in 1983; staying there for almost 30 years before it was dislodged by the Eagles’ Greatest Hits.

3.      Eagles – Hotel California

Hotel California is one of the greatest albums produced ever. The testimony to this statement is that the album went on to sell 26 million copies. This album was the fifth by the American rock band. Each of the three singles in this collection would reach number one in the Billboard 100.  The specific song Hotel California bagged the Record of the year accolade at the 20th Grammy Awards which took place in 1978.

4.      Billy Joel – Greatest Hits Volume I and II

Anyone who is able to sell 23 million copies of their album is truly a legend. That is what Billy Joel did with his Greatest Hits Volume I and II. This collection was released in 1985. In the album, there are hits from between 1973 and 1985.

5.      Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin IV

With 23 million copies sold, Led Zeppelin made it into the list of the highest selling albums ever. Even though this collection is commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV, it does not have an official title. It’s the fourth album by Led Zeppelin, an English rock band. The album was realized by Atlantic records in November 1971. The recording took place at a number of locations including the Headley Grange, the Rolling Stones Mobile.

10 Best Free Music Apps to Listen to All Your Favorite Music

0

When it comes to free music apps there’s no lack of choice.

But what it comes down to is your personal choice and what you’re willing to put up with for the free version. So let’s check out 10 of the most widely used free music apps and see which one is right for you.

Music Apps

Whether you want to listen while traveling or hanging around the house, it’s a good idea to have more than one way to access your music. Consider your data plan and how much storage you have on your phone when looking at these apps.

  1. Spotify

A no-brainer for this list, you’ve probably tried it out already. Spotify’s free service doesn’t hold many options back from its free users. You have access to playlists, stations, podcasts, and auto-generated lists that can help find music similar to what you listen to.

  1. Soundcloud

Soundcloud has many of the same features as Spotify like weekly generated playlists, customs playlists, and themed lists. What it does better than Spotify is its user participation. Users can record their own songs and upload them to Soundcloud through the app.

  1. Pandora

Definitely one of the most popular music apps, Pandora fills a special niche for free apps. You create stations and let it run, sometimes it brings you good stuff similar to what you wanted, sometimes the like system brings weird songs to you. Most of the time it works and works well thanks to the Music Genome Project.

  1. iHeartRadio

One of the few free music apps that don’t have ads in the free version, iHeartRadio focuses on stations. You can make stations or use the app to listen to local radio stations.

  1. YouTube Music

YouTube has access to more music than most of the other apps but falls short in two vital areas. You have to keep the app open in the foreground for it to play in the free version. It’s good if you want to connect it to a speaker but not for casual listening.

  1. LiveXLive

Another station-centric app, LiveXLive (formerly Slacker) operates much like Pandora. What LiveXLive has special, however, is a much cheaper way to get rid of ads. A $3.99 a month plan removes ads and gives unlimited skips.

  1. Musi

This is for the iPhone users only but has some great features. Musi allows you to create playlists out of YouTube videos and Soundcloud songs. The best part is that your YouTube music will play when minimized, the worst part is that it is supported by ads.

  1. TuneIn

TuneIn takes radio very seriously. You can’t play specific songs but you can find radio stations all over the nation that do. And if you’re interested in other on-demand entertainment, check out what you can watch on IPTV channels.

  1. Google Play Music

If you keep your own music on your phone and want a purely offline app, this is one of the best. There’s no ads or interruptions since it’s all your music anyway.

  1. Deezer

Deezer takes a little work up front to get going but is worth it. After choosing genres you pick the artists you like. There’s also the option to listen to editor-chosen playlists.

There’s Even More

These are just some of the music apps out there so what you need may not even be on this list. And if you decide to spring for the premium version there are so many more features. Between custom playlists, auto-generated playlists, and local radio stations, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

We know music. So if you’re looking for more music news check out our other music articles and get the latest info.

Ghost Adds More Dates To Its 2019 “Ultimate Tour Named Death”

0

Seven new dates for the “Ultimate Tour Named Death,” Ghost’s six-week North American headline arena tour are announced, adding shows in Edmonton, Toledo, Moline, Youngstown, Huntington, Hamilton, and Ottawa. A series of ticket pre-sales begins today at 12NOON local, and the public on-sale starts at 10 AM local this Friday, May 24. With Nothing More providing support for the tour and Twin Temple supporting on the 9/28 SLC date, the Frank Productions Concerts-Fall dates kick off on September 13 in Bakersfield, CA and run through to October 26 in Glens Falls, NY.

In support of this tour, “Faith,” the third single from Ghost’s GRAMMY-nominated album Prequelle, went to Rock Radio just last week and is the #1 most added track there this week with a total of 36 adds. “Faith” follows Prequelle’s two previous singles, “Rats” and “Dance Macabre,” both of which held the #1 spot on the Active and Mainstream Rock Radio charts for multiple weeks. An eminently tight track with its relentless and melodic guitar solos and dark, torturous lyrics, “Faith” manifests Ghost creative force Tobias Forge’s flair for soaring stadium-size anthems.

A live performance of “Faith” was shot last November at Ghost’s sold-out Los Angeles Forum show, the band’s first-ever North American headline arena concert. The clip showcases this tour’s expanded theatrical production, a striking stage set resembling a medieval cathedral with a backdrop of illuminated stained-glass windows. In addition to rich costumes, special effects, and a spectacular light show tailored-made for arenas, the Cardinal, the Ghouls, and the Ghoulettes will take advantage of a series of multi-level platforms and walkways to prowl around on while performing some of Ghost’s fan-favorite songs from the band’s albums and EPs catalogs. The set list will include favorites “Square Hammer,” “Cirice,” “Ashes,” “He Is,” “Year Zero,” “Rats,” “Mummy Dust,” “Life Eternal,” “Dance Macabre,” and many more. The next year our list grew to include International bands like the Foo Fighters, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle, The Catherine Wheel, and Sum41. Summersault quickly grew to a cross Canada Festival. It was the first time many of these bands had ever visited or played cities like Edmonton, Winnipeg & Halifax. We are proud to have exposed them to these and other incredible Canadian cities back in 2000 and this year feels like the right time to relaunch Summersault. We couldn’t be more excited to bring it to Canada again,” said Raine Maida, Our Lady Peace.

The Waterboys Release Video For New Single “Ladbroke Grove Symphony”, Announce Tour Dates

0

Ahead of the release of The Waterboys’ acclaimed new album Where The Action, the band have shared the music video for the third single off the record, “Ladbroke Grove Symphony”. Where The Action is out this Friday, May 24 via Cooking Vinyl.

“Ladbroke Grove Symphony” is a tribute to the former bohemian heart of West London, in which Mike Scott invokes his time living and writing among the crumbling, seaside-esque streets of Notting Hill during the 80s.

The accompanying montage video captures the magic of the Grove in all its weird and wonderful counterculture, and features new film and vintage photography of Scott as he tells the story of the song.

“Ladbroke Grove Symphony” is from Where The Action Is, a 10-song genre-defying album that is testament to Scott’s enduring talents. One of the finest British songwriters of the past four decades, his songs have been covered and/or recorded by artists including Prince, who crafted two different arrangements of Scott’s classic “The Whole Of The Moon”, Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, Steve Earle, and Ellie Goulding, who had a top three hit in 2013 with How Long Will I Love You.

Diverse in breadth, Where The Action Is is an album of incredible songwriting, experimentation and musical brilliance. It will excite Waterboys fans and new converts alike.

The Waterboys are Brother Paul (keys), Ralph (drums), Aongus (bass), Jess and Zeenie (vocals), Steve Wickham (electric fiddle and guitar) and Mike Scott (vocals, guitar and piano).

The band will tour the UK throughout the spring and summer with a US tour to look forward to in the fall. See full list of tour dates below. For more information visit The Waterboys website.

Rest In Peace, Dave “Bookie” Bookman

0

There are people who were put on this earth to love music, to help artists, to share their experience and knowledge. Dave “Bookie” Bookman was one of them. The city of Toronto – and Canada’s – music scene wouldn’t be the same without him, and he will be missed.
