Paul McCartney Releases Deluxe Editions Of Wild Life, Red Rose Speedway, And Paul McCartney And Wings 1971-73 Available December 7
Paul McCartney proudly announces the 11th and 12th classic works from his revered catalogue to be remastered, reissued and expanded across multi-format installments of his GRAMMY-winning Archive Collection, to be released December 7, 2018 via MPL/Capitol/Ume/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.
First up is the four-disc (3CD, 1DVD) limited deluxe edition of Wild Life, the debut album from Wings, originally released in December of 1971. Written by Paul and Linda McCartney (with the exception of a cover of Mickey & Sylvia’s “Love Is Strange”), Wild Life is beloved by fans for its raw and direct vibe – having been recorded in just over a week with the majority of tracks laid down in a single take. Wild Life’s limited deluxe edition treatment features the full album remastered at Abbey Road plus 25 bonus audio tracks including rough mixes of the album, original single edits, B-sides, home recordings and other previously unreleased material across three CDs. The set’s DVD features rare footage of acoustic home videos, rehearsals and more. The Wild Life deluxe package includes a 128-page book written by David Fricke telling the story behind the album – including track-by-track information and new interviews with McCartney and key album personnel, a 48-page scrapbook of tour diaries, lyrics and set lists, unpublished Polaroids, lyrics, notes and memorabilia from the MPL archives. Wild Life’s download redemption card will provide access to all audio in HD 24/96kHz unlimited high-resolution versions. Pre-order the deluxe edition of Wild Life HERE.
Next up is a six-disc (3CD, 2DVD + 1Blu-ray) numbered limited deluxe edition of the second Wings album and first credited to Paul McCartney and Wings, Red Rose Speedway. Released in April 1973 and featuring the #1 single “My Love”, Red Rose Speedway was the first Wings album to hit #1 on the U.S. chart. The Red Rose Speedway limited deluxe edition features three discs of audio including the original album remastered at Abbey Road, no less than 35 bonus audio tracks, including a reconstruction of the originally conceived double album version of Red Rose Speedway, singles, B-sides, alternate mixes and previously unreleased tracks. The 2DVD + Blu-ray portions of the deluxe are packed with rare and previously unseen footage, including the James Paul McCartney TV Special, interviews and music videos, as well as the never before seen film The Bruce McMouse Show—fully restored and remixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound. The package includes a folio containing 14 replica hand drawn original character sketches by McCartney and facsimile dialogue sheets for the film, a 128-page book containing many previously unpublished images by Linda McCartney, expanded album and single artwork from the archives and story behind the album — including new interviews with Paul McCartney, and key album personnel — and track-by-track information, written by Amanda Petrusich, five replica handwritten lyric sheets and photo print, a 64-page Wings In Morocco photo book, all housed in a numbered outer slipcase. The Red Rose Speedway download redemption card will provide access to all audio in HD 24/96kHz unlimited high-resolution versions. Pre-order the deluxe edition of Red Rose Speedway HERE.
Finally, the 11-disc Paul McCartney and Wings 1971–73 numbered limited edition super deluxe compilation features not only the entire contents of the Wild Life four-disc numbered limited deluxe edition and all of the Red Rose Speedway 6-disc numbered limited deluxe edition—but also the exclusive live album, Wings Over Europe. This exclusive collection features 20 previously unreleased, newly mixed live tracks recorded over the course of five shows, an introduction featuring McCartney recounting memories of the 1972 tour, a 96-page photo book including previously unreleased images by Linda McCartney and Captain Snap, a replica of the 1972 Wings Over Europe tour program, and access to downloadable 24/96kHz unlimited high-resolution audio versions. Pre-order Paul McCartney and Wings 1971–73 HERE.
The Paul McCartney Archive Collection debuted with the November 2, 2010 re-release of Paul McCartney and Wings’ 1973 milestone Band on the Run, which won the 2010 GRAMMY Award for Best Historical Album, while the Archive Collection’s Deluxe Edition Box Set of the 1976 classic Wings Over America took the 2013 GRAMMY for Best Boxed or Special Limited-Edition Package. The most recent previous installment was 2017’s reissue of McCartney’s eighth studio album Flowers In The Dirt, which Rolling Stone called “spectacular… an extraordinary document,” and the Observer hailed as “perhaps the greatest record to emerge from the world of AOR in 1989… an absolute pleasure to rediscover today.”
Every release in the ongoing Paul McCartney Archive Collection is supervised by McCartney himself, who oversees all aspects of each and every title from remastering to the curation of lost tracks, outtakes, artwork, photographs and video from his personal vaults, and much more. The result is one of the most ambitious and personal undertakings of its kind, one that encompasses more than 40 years of cherished, classic material from the most successful songwriter and recording artist in music history.

Dan Mangan Is Celebrating His New CD With A Variety Show On Instagram Featuring His Mom…Wait…What?
On Sunday October 28th, a few days before the release of his upcoming LP, More or Less, Dan Mangan will launch a live, split-screen, multi-stage variety show hosted by comedian Charlie Demers. The show will take place on Mangan’s Instagram Live account and will include live performances, interviews, game show quizzes, and prizes. Fans and viewers can control the entertainment by demanding ‘MORE’ or ‘LESS’ of what they are watching.
Dan will also be joined by a packed roster of special guests including comedians Nima Gholamipour, Carla Mah, Ronald Dario, and Colin Cowan. Other guests will include everyone from CBC’s Grant Lawrence to Dan’s own mother, Louise Mangan.
“It’s like an album release party online,” says Mangan. “It also might be a trainwreck, in which case there’s even more incentive to scope it out.” Watch Mangan and friends experiment with the highs and lows of live television on his Instagram Live at 3:00pmET on Sunday, October 28th.
Set for release on November 2 via Arts & Crafts, More or Less is an album that Mangan claims “feels more like ‘me’ than ever. More sparse. Less meticulous. More kids. Less time. More direct. Less metaphor. More discovery. Less youth. More warmth. Less chaos.”
More or Less is about “witnessing birth, and in some ways rebirth,” says Mangan. “It’s about feeling disconnected from a popular identity and becoming acclimated to a new one. It’s about raising kids in a turbulent world. It’s about unanswerable questions and kindness and friendship and fear.”
This January, Mangan will take to the road throughout Canada for a nation-wide tour, starting in Newfoundland making his way back home to BC. Full tour dates can be found below, with more dates to be added in the near future. Mangan has already been on tour with Stars and Kaleo earlier this year and will continue on with Snow Patrol in North America and Laura Gibson in Europe this fall.
Recently, Mangan shared the first two episodes of his More or Less Songwriting Series. Released over the next twelve months, Mangan and Stuart Gillies take you behind the scenes of his craft to discuss the songs and events that have had the biggest impact on him as a songwriter. The playlist of songs will also be featured on Spotify and Apple Music. In the first two episodes, Mangan discusses the process behind “So Much For Everyone”, a track from his first LP, Postcards And Daydreaming, and “Just Fear”, his most recent single from the upcoming More or Less.

More or Less follows up 2016’s EP Unmake and 2015’s collaborative art-rock album Club Meds. In 2012 Mangan won two JUNO Awards for his sophomore LP, Oh Fortune, and his 2010 album, Nice, Nice, Very Nice, was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize.

Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Rush, Alanis Morissette, Broken Social Scene Win Polaris Heritage Prize
Polaris Music Prize announced the winning albums for the 2018 Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize today.
The winners were chosen from four short lists, each representing a different musical era, and were curated by a Heritage Prize jury of music historians and music media. Two winners for each era were chosen — one by public vote and one by the jury. Voting opened at the Polaris Music Prize Gala on September 17, 2018 and ended on October 18.
The winners of the 2018 Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize, supported Re:Sound, are:
1960-1975
Public: Neil Young – Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Jury: Jean-Pierre Ferland – Jaune
1976 – 1985
Public: Rush – 2112
Jury: Bruce Cockburn – Stealing Fire
1986-1995
Public: Alanis Morissette – Jagged Little Pill
Jury: Dream Warriors – And Now the Legacy Begins
1996-2005
Public: Broken Social Scene – You Forgot It In People
Jury: Kid Koala – Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
These will be the second albums from Neil Young and Rush to receive Heritage Prize designation. All other acts are receiving their first such recognition.
“Congratulations to all the winning artists. You’ve created important memorable recordings that have had a lasting impact on the musical landscape. I have tremendous appreciation for the work that has gone into creating these timeless albums,” said Gary Slaight, President and CEO of Slaight Communications.
“Re:Sound is honoured to be part of the Polaris Heritage Prize for a second straight year,” said Ian MacKay, Re:Sound’s president. “Each of these albums speaks to the strong and long lasting effect of music. Spanning over four distinct eras and across all genres, the Heritage Prize is a testament to Canada’s best and reminds us why we passionately do the work we do to help ensure a thriving and sustainable music industry in Canada. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners!”
“Our Heritage Prize jurors listened to dozens of classic Canadian albums and tried to imagine which ones would have made it onto a short list in the four pre-Polaris eras,” said Mary Dickie, the Heritage Prize jury foreperson. “They weighed innovation, musicianship, lasting influence and general brilliance and came up with this list of outstanding albums that reflect the remarkable diversity and genius of Canadian musicians. Thanks to all the winners for your timeless work.”
The Office of Gilbert Li, who curated the 2018 Polaris Music Prize posters and the posters for the 2017 Heritage Prize, will return to curate eight new artists to pay tribute to the winning records.
Four upcoming episodes of the Polaris Podcast will be dedicated to exploring the significance of these eight Heritage Prize albums.
The records that did not get selected as winners will remain on the short lists for the 2019 Heritage Prize. The Heritage jury will add two additional records for each era.
Records are selected for the Heritage Prize in accordance with existing Polaris criteria; to honour and reward artists who produce Canadian music albums of distinction without regard to musical genre or commercial popularity.
Elvis ‘68 Comeback Special 50th Anniversary Edition Gets 7-CD Release And First Time On Blu-Ray
This 7-Disc definitive box set Contains all known recordings/rehearsals from the RCA vaults and from original NBC-TV videotapes available November 30
’68 Comeback Special (50th Anniversary Edition) is the definitive chronicle of the now legendary NBC-TV show, Elvis. After years of making formulaic movies, Elvis was finally unleashed to perform live again on an intimate stage with his original sidemen, Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana. Playing “That’s All Right”, “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” and many of his great hits, the sheer rawness and excitement of the performances attracted unanimous critical acclaim. Greil Marcus in his book Mystery Train said, “If ever there was music that could bleed, this was it”. 1968 was a profound year for America. Martin Luther King had been assassinated, and while Elvis was making the special, Bobby Kennedy was shot. The closing song “If I Can Dream” encapsulates every emotion that Elvis and the entire production crew felt during the making of the special. NBC-TV’s Elvis is as raw and inspirational today as it was in 1968.
This 50th Anniversary Edition includes all the known audio recordings from RCA’s vault and all the videotaped performances are here for the first time on Blu-ray.
For millions of fans, including a young Bruce Springsteen, the Elvis ‘68 Comeback Special was a life-changing event. “I remember I waited for weeks for the ’68 Special,” Springsteen recollected recently. “I knew it was coming. I can remember exactly where our TV was set up in the dining room, the exact place I was sitting. I mean, it’s one of those things that’s imprinted on my memory forever.”
CAREER-DEFINING ’68 COMEBACK
• 7-Disc definitive box set chronicles the pivotal NBC-TV ’68 special called Elvis and takes you behind the scenes in audio and remastered 4:3 Blu-ray video
• Contains ALL KNOWN recordings/rehearsals from the RCA vaults and from original NBC-TV videotapes
• 80-page book includes a new, oral history on the special, crafted from interviews with producer Steve Binder, recording engineer Bones Howe, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Priscilla Presley, Emmylou Harris, Scotty Moore conducted for Thom Zimny’s 2018 documentary, “Elvis Presley: The Searcher.”
• The book also features rare photos and memorabilia and full recording data
• Over 7.5 hours of footage across 2 newly mastered Blu-ray discs, overseen by Thom Zimny.
Elvis Presley re-established himself as The King of Rock and Roll with Elvis, the widely-seen “comeback special” broadcast on NBC at the end of 1968. The show’s many highlights included laid-back live performances recorded in the round before a small audience and featuring a powerful ensemble—including guitarist Scotty Moore and drummer D.J. Fontana, both part of Elvis’ original, classic backing band. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Elvis, both electrifying, intimate “sit-down” sets will be released widely on vinyl for the first time in a 2LP package with a newly created gatefold sleeve.
