Ah, the problems we blab on about. Nothing’s really changed.
In 1966, Bob Dylan employed an electric band backing him, following his “going electric” at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. The musicians Dylan employed as his backing band were known as The Hawks; they subsequently became famous as The Band. He was being constantly heckled by folkniks or angry fans throughout the second, electric half of a concert. Even the press began to go along with the dissent of his fans. A review in the magazine Melody Maker of the May 5, 1966 concert in Dublin, Ireland stated that “It was unbelievable to see a hip-swinging [sic] Dylan trying to look and sound like Mick Jagger. For most it was the night of the big let-down.”
Well, this is cool. Childish Gambino is heading out on the road with Vince Staples for his This Is America tour starting in October, and fans who purchase tickets to a show are receiving two songs from him, “Algorhythm” and “All Night.”

It began with a handful of East Berlin teens who heard the Sex Pistols on a British military radio broadcast to troops in West Berlin, and it ended with the collapse of the East German dictatorship. Punk rock was a life-changing discovery. The buzz-saw guitars, the messed-up clothing and hair, the rejection of society and the DIY approach to building a new one: in their gray surroundings, where everyone’s future was preordained by some communist apparatchik, punk represented a revolutionary philosophy—quite literally, as it turned out.
But as these young kids tried to form bands and became more visible, security forces—including the dreaded secret police, the Stasi—targeted them. They were spied on by friends and even members of their own families; they were expelled from schools and fired from jobs; they were beaten by police and imprisoned. Instead of conforming, the punks fought back, playing an indispensable role in the underground movements that helped bring down the Berlin Wall.
This secret history of East German punk rock is not just about the music; it is a story of extraordinary bravery in the face of one of the most oppressive regimes in history. Rollicking, cinematic, deeply researched, highly readable, and thrillingly topical, Tim Mohr’s Burning Down the Haus brings to life the young men and women who successfully fought authoritarianism three chords at a time—and is a fiery testament to the irrepressible spirit of revolution.

At halftime during the first Ohio State game of the season on Saturday, the school’s marching band performed an amazing tribute to Queen. The video of the medley certainly got the attention of Queen’s Brian May, who tweeted, “This is truly amazing! What an incredible amount of work went into this performance.”
As part of a YouTube Original special, Paul McCartney will perform a concert live on Paul’s YouTube channel to celebrate the release of his highly anticipated new album Egypt Station. Paul will perform songs from the new album alongside classics from his Beatles, Wings and solo catalogues. The live stream will begin at 8:00PM (ET) on Friday, September 7, 2018.
Following the fleeting reveal of instrumental passages in two trailers and today’s release of the track “Suspirium,” it can be confirmed: Thom Yorke’s Suspiria (Music for the Luca Guadagnino Film) will be released October 26 on XL Recordings.
Suspiria consists of 25 original compositions written by Thom specifically for Luca Guadagnino’s reimagining of the 1977 Dario Argento horror classic. The album is a mix of instrumental score work, interstitial pieces and interludes, and more traditional song structures featuring Thom’s vocals such as “Unmade,” “Has Ended” and “Suspirium,” the album’s first single featuring the melodic theme that recurs throughout the film and its score.
As scoring a horror film presented Thom with altogether new challenges and opportunities, Suspiria stands apart from any of his other work. Piano/vocal ballads, Krautrock-esque modular synth work inspired by the film’s Berlin 1977 setting, multilayered vocals, and melodies that convey terror, longing and melancholy combine to create a chaotic yet cohesive musical spell.
Suspiria was written and arranged by Thom Yorke, recorded and produced by Thom and Sam Petts-Davies. The album also features the London Contemporary Orchestra and Choir, Noah Yorke on drums on “Has Ended” and “Volk,” and Pasha Mansurov on solo flute on “Suspirium.”
Suspiria (Music for the Luca Guadagnino Film) will be available across digital platforms, as well as 2-LP gatefold package pink vinyl and 2-CD physical versions.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Headstones’ critically-acclaimed debut album Picture of Health and to celebrate, they will be re-issuing the album on October 26 via Cadence Recordings. Today, they’ve released a re-recorded, re-imagined version of their 1991 demo “Skin Me Alive,” which originally appeared on their Demo Gods cassette.
Headstones will also be heading on the road this fall for the official Picture of Health Tour, playing this seminal album from front to back live, as well as your favourite hits! See below for all tour dates.
Picture of Health was Headstones breakthrough debut album that went Certified Platinum in Canada. Originally released on June 1, 1993, the re-issue package will include remastered versions of the 13 original tracks plus four bonus tracks – demos of “Sweet Pea”,“When Something Stands For Nothing,” “Cemetery” and the newly re-recorded “Skin Me Alive,” all originally featured on their Demo Gods cassette, which ignited their career. Leading up to the release on October 26th, follow the band on their social channels to see some rare footage and photos from the Picture of Health era, including this video of the band performing “Judy” on MuchMusic in 1993.
Picture of Health follows the Headstones release of their critically-acclaimed album Little Army (2017 Cadence Recordings). The album was their highest debuting full-length in over a decade, hitting #3 on the Alternative Album Chart and #13 on the Current Album Chart. The lead single “Devil’s on Fire” was the #6 most played track at Active Rock radio in 2017, spending 20 weeks on the chart and reaching #1 for three weeks.
