Bob Dylan – More Blood, More Tracks – The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 to Be Released November 2

0

Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Bob Dylan – More Blood, More Tracks – The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 on Friday, November 2.

The latest chapter in Columbia/Legacy’s highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg Series makes available the pivotal studio recordings made by Bob Dylan during six extraordinary sessions in 1974–four in New York (September 16, 17, 18, 19) and two in Minneapolis (December 27, 30)–that resulted in the artist’s 1975 masterpiece, Blood On The Tracks. One of the top-selling albums of Dylan’s career, Blood On The Tracks redefined the boundaries and structures of modern pop songwriting (a genre Dylan had virtually invented a decade prior), reached #1 on the Billboard 200, achieved RIAA 2x Platinum status and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2015.

Blood On The Tracks was originally recorded during four days in New York City in September, 1974. Soon thereafter, the album was mastered and review copies began to circulate. A few months later, Dylan felt the album needed a different approach and rerecorded five of the tracks at Minneapolis Sound 80 Studios beginning in late December of that year. While a few of the outtakes from the original New York sessions have been highly prized by bootleggers and collectors, most of these recordings have never been available in any format.

The single disc / 2LP configuration of More Blood, More Tracks assembles 10 of the most emotionally resonant alternate takes of each of the 10 songs appearing the original Blood On The Tracks plus a previously unreleased version of “Up to Me.”

The 6CD full-length deluxe version of Bob Dylan – More Blood, More Tracks – The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 includes the complete New York sessions in chronological order including outtakes, false starts and studio banter. The album’s producers have worked from best sources available, in most cases utilizing the original multi-track session tapes.

The only recordings remaining from the Minneapolis Sound 80 sessions are the multi-track masters of the five performances included on the finished Blood On The Tracks album. Each of these has been remixed and remastered for the deluxe edition of More Blood, More Tracks.

In his liner notes for More Blood, More Tracks, Jeff Slate observes that, “Dylan cut each of these amazing performances – some of the best he ever committed to tape – one after the other, live in the studio, without headphones, and without the types of overdubs that most performers rely on to make their records sound finished. Instead, on these tracks, we find Dylan – just a singer with a guitar and a harmonica and a batch of great songs – delivering performances that thrill you when they’re supposed to and break your heart when they need to…. The performances are also in the purest state we’ve ever experienced them. During the production of Blood On The Tracks, Dylan asked [producer Phil] Ramone to speed up many of the masters by 2-3%, a common practice in the 1960s and ’70s, especially for records sent to AM radio. It was thought that doing so would give the songs a little extra bounce to better engage listeners. Most of the songs from the New York sessions that previously circulated, officially and unofficially, are the sped-up versions that Dylan requested. On More Blood, More Tracks, for the first time, we’re hearing the songs exactly as Dylan recorded them.”

Bob Dylan – More Blood, More Tracks – The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 will be available in a single disc (or 2LP) configuration showcasing 11 essential tracks from the New York A&R Studio sessions.

Two previous volumes in Columbia/Legacy’s Bob Dylan Bootleg Series have taken home the Best Historical Album Grammy Award for its respective eligibility year: Bob Dylan – The Cutting Edge 1965-1966, The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 in 2017 and Bob Dylan – The Basement Tapes Complete, The Bootleg Series Vol. 11 in 2016.

The deluxe box set is a limited edition. After it sells out, no additional copies will be made. This set includes a hardcover photo book featuring liner notes by rock historian Jeff Slate and a complete reproduction of one of Dylan’s legendary handwritten 57 page notebooks, where you can follow the lyrical development of the songs that would eventually comprise Blood On The Tracks.

Andrea Bocelli Enlists Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, and Josh Groban For His New Album ‘Si’

0

Andrea Bocelli has teamed up with some of the hottest musical stars on the planet for his forthcoming album ‘Si’ – reuniting with his friend Ed Sheeran after their chart-topping ‘Perfect Symphony’ on a brand new song called ‘Amo Soltanto Te’ (written by Ed with lyrics by Tiziano Ferro) and joining with pop sensation Dua Lipa on the single ‘If Only’. Crossover superstar Josh Groban and classical soprano Aida Garifullina also duet with Bocelli on the record, which is released on Sugar/Decca on 26th October. It is his first album of new material in 14 years – 16 brand new songs which celebrate love, family, faith and hope.

At the centre of the new record is a spine-tingling duet between father-and-son, as 20 year-old Matteo Bocelli steps into the limelight to duet with Andrea on ‘Fall On Me’ – a beautifully poignant song which reflects the bond between parent and child. It will appear in the end credits of the hotly-anticipated new Disney film, The Nutcracker and The Four Realms, starring Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Foy, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman, to be released on November 2nd. The single, which will be available in 7 different languages, will be released on Friday 21st September, along with a stunning new music video which reveals never-before-seen photos of Andrea and Matteo from their family photo album.

Andrea explains how his voice compares with Matteo’s: “Technically they are very different, but there is one thing that makes them most similar: the attitude. That characteristic way of expressing yourself through your voice. This makes Matteo and I very similar. But that is something that you cannot learn, that cannot be taught. That is something you are born with.”

Andrea Bocelli, who turns 60 this Saturday (22nd September), has brought together family and friends for his new album. It was recorded at his home in Italy and produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Thirty Seconds To Mars, etc) and includes a song produced by Mauro Malavasi and another one by Andrea’s oldest friend, Pierpaolo Guerrini. As well as a duet with Matteo, Andrea’s other son, Amos Bocelli, performs piano on the acoustic version of the track ‘Sono Qui’ (I Am Here) and Ali di Libertà. There is also a song called ‘Vivo’, which is an emotional homage to his wife Veronica. ‘If Only’ (his duet with Dua Lipa) was co-written by Francesco Sartori and the late Lucio Quarantotto – who helped pen one of Bocelli’s biggest hits, ‘Con Te Partirò’ (Time To Say Goodbye), which was released over 20 years ago and has become of the classical best-selling singles of all time.

Andrea Bocelli says of the album: “I wanted to go back to my memories of being a young man, playing at a piano bar. Obviously since then, I’ve produced lots of albums, sung lots of covers, performed many other things. But at a certain point I said to myself: ‘Maybe the time has come to put my effort into finding new songs.’ Like starting all over again, as it were, in my career.”

Bocelli’s humble manner belies his international status as one of the world’s biggest classical stars – he’s sung for Popes, Presidents and royalty, performed in all the greatest concert halls and opera houses around the world, and sold 85 million records. He has performed at major international events including the Olympic Games and the World Cup, as well as his own sell-out arena shows. He has a Golden Globe, 7 Classical BRITs and 7 World Music Awards under his belt, plus a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Drawing millions in with his popular crossover appeal, Bocelli has collaborated with a host of A-list pop stars including Céline Dion, Tony Bennett, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Scherzinger, and many more. He also wowed UK football fans with a performance for Claudio Ranieri’s Premier League-winning Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in 2016. Bocelli continues to tour the world with major shows in the US, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Canada, Ireland and the UK where fans will have the opportunity to hear his new music. More information on his tour dates here.

Sì is an album about heart and soul, positivity and family, melody and magic. And for that reason, Bocelli chose the strong, simple title. “In this historical period we are going through right now, we too often say no. But yes is the word you say when you have your first kiss, when you agree with somebody, when want to make someone feel good. Sì is the word you say every time things will end well. For a thousand and one reasons, sì is the expression of a positive, powerful, human word and feeling and emotion.”

And so, in his 60th birthday year, Andrea Bocelli is proud to return to where it all began. His uplifting new album Sì gives us a window into the world of this extraordinary singer and global icon.

Elton John And Universal Music Group Strike Global Partnership Across Recorded Music, Music Publishing, Merchandise, Brand Management And Licensing Rights

0

Rocket Entertainment and Universal Music Group, today announced a significant new agreement to provide Elton John, one of music’s most iconic artists and the most successful male solo artist in US Billboard chart history, the industry’s best resources and expertise across recorded music, music publishing and licensing rights. This partnership not only means that UMG represents the entirety of Elton John’s legendary creative output throughout his extraordinary five-decade career, but also will see UMG’s labels globally release all of Elton John’s new music for the rest of his career going forward.

The multi-faceted agreement marks the beginning of a new era of expanded collaboration between Elton John and UMG and significantly expands their global business partnership. The long-term commitment also includes the publishing rights to his iconic song writing catalogue to be administrated by Universal Music Publishing Group long into the future. Bravado, UMG’s brand-management and merchandise company, will work closely with Rocket to expand and develop global merchandising, branding and retail licensing opportunities around Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour and catalogue.

Since becoming CEO of Rocket Entertainment in 2015, David Furnish has fostered an ever-closer working partnership with UMG. Together, they have focused on growing Elton John’s presence on streaming services and social media platforms to support a broader strategy in touring, branding and licensing. A strategically planned series of initiatives across the fields of recorded and live music, fashion, film and video have ensured that not only does Elton’s oeuvre continue to find new fans, but his continuous creative output has remained exciting and relevant across the generations.

Some of the world’s biggest and most exciting artists from a wide-range of genres joined together to pay homage to cover versions of songs written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, resulting in two albums released in April: Revamp (Virgin EMI/Island Records) and the country music companion Restoration (MCA Nashville). Miley Cyrus to The Killers, Little Big Town to Maren Morris, Q-Tip to Lady Gaga, Chris Stapleton to Kacey Musgraves, Ed Sheeran to Queens Of The Stone Age contributed recordings to the albums. Revamp reached No. 2 in the U.K. Compilation Charts, educating a new generation of fans to the influence and inspiration that Elton has had on various genres leading lights.

Also, in April, CBS aired the concert special “Elton John: I’m Still Standing — A GRAMMY Salute,” featuring performances from Elton John and artists including Alessia Cara, Lady Gaga, Shawn Mendes and Sam Smith covering some of his most-loved hit songs. Elton John was named the top-performing solo male artist in the 60-year history of the Billboard Hot 100, with 67 chart entries between 1970 and 2000, including nine No. 1 songs and 27 than landed in the top 10.

November 2017 saw the release of Diamonds, a career-spanning Greatest Hits set. Timed to coincide with Elton’s 70th birthday, as well as the anniversary of his 50th year working with his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, a sustained period of celebratory activity surrounded the release, including an ITV1 90-minute prime-time special and a Radio 2 special in the U.K., where the album was certified twice Gold and reached the Top 5 of the U.K. Album Charts upon release.

This year has seen the live side of Elton John’s business pushed to ever greater heights. The announcement of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour was a VR extravaganza that transported attending media- and fans around the world watching on YouTube – through the defining moments of Elton’s illustrious performance career. The tour, which kicked off earlier this month in Allentown, Pennsylvania marks the Elton John’s goodbye to the road, drawing the curtain on a career that has broken records and redefined the parameters of live music. The U.S. dates became the fast selling American Express presale of all time, selling 450,000 tickets on first day, and 76 of the dates sold out instantly. The tour will take in over 300 shows over three years, and it’s projected to see Elton perform in front of 6 million to 7 million people.

Elton continues to impact the world of fashion and will work with Bravado to create an inspired line of merchandise for his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. Bravado will oversee worldwide tour and retail merchandise, brand partnerships, licensing and direct-to-consumer sales along with activations planned in cities throughout the tour. Elton’s iconic presence in fashion and design was felt last year as Gucci unveiled their Spring Summer 2018 collection. Designed by Alessandro Michele and inspired by Elton’s inimitable style, the collection referenced original items taken from his archives. Gucci has also designed Elton’s wardrobe for the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, threading the various style elements that make up the superstar’s DNA.

Elton also appeared as himself in a critically lauded, hilariously tongue-in-cheek role in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and his songs soundtrack Sherlock Gnomes. Staying within the visual medium, last year also saw Elton and Bernie launch The Cut, a project allowing undiscovered creative talent from all over the world the chance to create the official music videos for some of their most iconic songs: “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Bennie And The Jets,” each winning video attracting millions upon millions of views. The Cut, which was supported by YouTube, helped build a dialogue with Elton’s younger fanbase and exposed Elton’s catalogue to a creative, youth-orientated audience, allowing new and emerging talent to produce the first-ever official videos for some of Elton’s classic tracks from before the commercial music video-era.

Elton’s regular Beats 1 Rocket Hour show on Apple Music also reinforces his unsurpassed reputation as a connoisseur of pop and a supporter of new and emerging talent. Having recently transmitted it’s 150th episode, Elton has now presented more shows for Beats 1 than any of the other regular presenters.

As Elton’s globally anticipated Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour gets underway in the U.S., the next phase of the icon’s unparalleled career will continue to push the boundaries and define the meaning of the term global Superstar. With the path of his future recording career now set in stone with UMG, and under Rocket Entertainment’s stewardship, Elton John defines pop culture in the 21st Century.

Chris Cornell Gets 64-Track Limited-Edition Deluxe Box Set To Be Released November 16

0

On November 16, fans can celebrate the recorded legacy of musical icon and singer/songwriter Chris Cornell, with the 17-track self-titled album, Chris Cornell and a 64-track limited-edition deluxe box set (11 of them unreleased). The first release since his passing in 2017, the album will be released by Cornell’s wife, Vicky Cornell on behalf of The Chris Cornell Estate through UMe.

Chris Cornell commemorates his life and legacy not only as a singer, but as a poet and one of the most prolific writers and greatest voices of the modern rock era. Vicky, worked extensively with Chris’ bandmates and friends to compile a collection of material from the late artist’s expansive career, showcasing his contribution to music history with selections culled from the deep catalogs of his three influential bands— Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave— as well as songs from his solo career. She turned to producer Brendan O’Brien, who was a trusted partner to Cornell over the years and Jeff Ament who created the packaging for Chris Cornell.

The first unreleased track, “When Bad Does Good,” was produced, recorded, and mixed by Cornell and was found in his personal recordings archive. The track was a favorite of his and it wasn’t until friend Josh Brolin, reminded Vicky of the unreleased song, that she decided to share it with his fans.

“Since Chris’ sudden passing I have put all my efforts and energy into sharing his music and legacy with his fans from all over the world,” says Vicky. “I felt we needed to create a special collection to represent all of him – the friend, husband and father, the risk taker and innovator, the poet and artist. His soaring vocals found their way into the hearts and souls of so many. His voice was his vision and his words were his peace. This album is for his fans.”

The breadth of all 17 selections on Chris Cornell display the full span of his artistic achievements, from the full-on kick of Soundgarden’s seminal “Black Hole Sun” to the mournful yearning of Temple of the Dog’s “Hunger Strike” to the sensitive depth of Audioslave’s “Like A Stone” to his spot-on solo theme to the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, “You Know My Name.” This collection also contains a pair of unreleased recordings: a touching cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” that was cut live at Sirius XM, and “When Bad Does Good.”

The November 16 release will also include a limited-edition 4CD Deluxe box set of the same name, consisting of 64 tracks total (11 of them unreleased.)

Chris Cornell comes housed in a jewel case with a limited-edition custom die-cut slipcase that showcases Seattle with tree-line graphics on the front and other various cities he lived in throughout his life on the back, a 32-page booklet with many unreleased photos, and liner notes from bandmates and colleagues Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Tom Morello, Mike McCready, and Brendan O’Brien. The 180g 2LP edition comes in a gatefold jacket with similar limited-edition slipcase graphics, a 12-page booklet, and the aforementioned liner notes, while the 4CD limited-edition box boasts a further expanded 54-page booklet.

Additionally, a limited-edition Super Deluxe 4CD, 1DVD, and 180-gram 7LP box set is set for release on November 16. The Super Deluxe edition holds 88 tracks — 64 songs plus 24 videos, with 13 entries (11 audio + 2 video) previously unreleased overall. Also included in the Super Deluxe box are a 66-page hardcover photo book wrapped in linen with a red foil signature cover, three artist lithos, three photochromatic lithos inspired by Cornell’s lyrical fascination about the sun (images are brought to life by holding under direct sunlight), a turntable mat, a microfiber vinyl cleaning cloth, and a 36×48-inch wall poster.

The box set’s ten unreleased live performances include Cornell’s duet with Yusuf/Cat Stevens on “Wild World” and another duet with his daughter, Toni Cornell, on Bob Marley’s indelible classic, “Redemption Song.” Temple of the Dog’s 25th anniversary reunion/first-ever-official tour in 2016 is highlighted with hometown performances of “Reach Down” and the Andy Wood/Mother Love Bone favorite “Stargazer,” Chris’ personal arrangement of “One” featuring the lyrics to Metallica’s song set to the music of U2’s song of same name, and a first ever album release of Audioslave’s 2005 ground-breaking performance on Cuban soil of “Show Me How To Live.” Also in 2016, one of Chris’ personal career-topping moments was performing at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London where he covered The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life.” Three additional live selections from Sweden in 2006 include “Wide Awake,” “All Night Thing” Fgorand Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You” are from the very first show ever where Chris performed by himself with an acoustic guitar in front of an audience which became the creative spark for his future, highly successful Songbook tours. Two unreleased music videos spotlight a solo acoustic performance of “Scream” and the newly edited Soundgarden video “Live To Rise,” showcasing the band only without The Avengers movie footage included.

CPLG to represent Archie Comics across EMEA

0

Archie Comic Publications has appointed CPLG as licensing agent in Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Latin America for the iconic Archie Comics Universe.

Archie Comics is home to some of the most popular comic characters, including Archie Andrews, Jughead, Betty and Veronica, Josie and the Pussycats and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, in addition to the Riverdale comic book collection.

CPLG will develop a licensing programme targeting teens and adults, with an initial focus on apparel and accessories, utilising artwork from the Riverdale, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Josie & the Pussy Cats comic books.

The Riverdale comics offer a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, Josie & the Pussycats and their friends, exploring small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.

The Archie Comics line is one of the most successful, longest running brands in the history of the comic industry, having sold over two-billion comics worldwide and published in 12 languages. The popularity of the Archie Comics characters has spilled over into other media, including animation, television, film and music.

Music Community Comes Together on Music Modernization Act

0

SiriusXM joined with Azoff Music Management, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA), to announce an agreement on the Music Modernization Act. The changes build upon existing language to confirm in law that artists will receive 50% of performance royalties from SiriusXM for pre-1972 sound recordings, and confirm that the existing sound recording royalty rate for satellite radio will remain in place unchanged until 2027, an additional five year period.

The Music Modernization Act, S. 2823, including the CLASSICS Act, updates music licensing laws for the streaming era.
