“There’s No Other Way To Say It” Is A Hilarious Spoof On The Voiceover World

0

Director Tim Mason pulls the curtain back on the glamorous world of advertising in this short comedy about a voiceover actor trying to nail the right tone for a pair of indecisive ad creatives selling a fictitious children’s ice cream brand. Or is it a short tragedy about a pair of ad creatives trying to coax the right tone out of a distracted voiceover actor? Either way, watch as the Hog Butcher team captures the gritty reality of advertising. A can’t miss for anyone thinking about going to portfolio school or applying for a bachelor’s in Radio and Television.

Grammy winner Chilly Gonzales To Release Solo Piano III On September 7

0

Grammy-winning Canadian pianist, entertainer and composer Chilly Gonzales will release the final album of his Solo Piano trilogy, Solo Piano III, on September 7th, 2018.

The album comes six years after Solo Piano II and, according to Gonzales, at “a more problematic inflection point”. “Like its predecessors, it’s a mostly happy ending in C major, but there is more dissonance, tension and ambiguity along the way… The musical purity of Solo Piano III is not an antidote for our times, it is a reflection of all the beauty and ugliness around us.”

Known as much for the intimate piano touch of best-selling albums Solo Piano I and Solo Piano II as for his showmanship and composition for award-winning stars, “Gonzo”, as he is known to close collaborators, aims to be a man of his time, approaching the piano with classical and jazz training but with the attitude of a rapper. He holds the Guinness world record for the longest solo concert at over 27 hours. He performs and writes songs with Jarvis Cocker, Feist and Drake, among others, with recent collaborators including the likes of Ibeyi and Toddla T. With Never Stop, Chilly Gonzales composed a global hit for the inaugural Apple iPad 2 campaign. In 2014 he won a Grammy for his collaboration on Daft Punk’s ‘Best Album of the Year’ and composed the best-selling book of easy piano pieces Re-Introduction Etudes. With his last album Chambers, Chilly Gonzales devoted himself to finding a modern take on chamber music.

Most recently, Chilly Gonzales ventured into a new form of entrepreneurship. A culmination of recent years’ explorations in teaching, Gonzo inaugurated his very own music school: The Gonzervatory. During this all-expenses-paid residential music performance workshop held in Paris, 7 selected students explored Musical Humanism, audience psychology and what it means to be a performing musician in 2018. After a week of intensive coaching, masterclasses and rehearsals, these young musicians performed a concert for an audience of 1500 fans with Chilly Gonzales himself as Master of Ceremony. The Gonzervatory Workshop and Concerts were livestreamed on pan-European TV station Arte Concert to record-breaking audiences (Arte’s 2nd most viewed concert ever). Plans are already being made for the 2019 edition.

Submissions Now Open for 2018 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class

0

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and Slaight Music announced today that submissions are now open for the fourth annual Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class. The ongoing initiative provides mentorship and industry insights to guide three winners through the development of their music careers, culminating with the opportunity to attend and perform at the 2019 JUNO Awards.

The annual program includes a week-long premier artist development program co-developed with Canada’s Music Incubator at Coalition Music from October 22 to 26. The program focuses on networking, collaboration opportunities, and hands-on mentorship from industry leaders. This year, winners will also be joined by the 2018 winner of CBC Music’s Searchlight competition, Aquakultre.

Interested artists can apply at junomasterclass.ca by June 25, 2018. There are no fees associated with submissions and applications require a CARAS Academy Delegate endorsement.

“We are thrilled to be able to continue our commitment to foster the growth of up-and-coming Canadian musicians with the Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class program,” said Gary Slaight, President and CEO, Slaight Communications. “Championing and supporting Canadian artists was a passion of my father’s, Allan Slaight. I am proud to be part of a platform for these talented artists to develop skills and connections to further their careers.”

“Our goal is to support artists on their musical journey and enhance their knowledge of the various aspects of the industry,” said Allan Reid, President and CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards and MusiCounts. “We ask CARAS Academy Delegates across the country to recommend talent in their communities who are ready for the next step in their careers.”Submissions are narrowed down to a group of 10 artists by Canadian music industry leaders, with 10 finalists being announced on August 14, 2018. Three winners will then be determined by the 2019 Super Jury, which includes JUNO Award winners who will be announced later this year.

Winners will be featured in a docu-series capturing their journey that will run on JUNOTV.ca, as well as receive studio time at Slaight Music Recording Studios and the incredible prizing of $5,000 advertising budget to use on Facebook.

The artists will also get to attend Canada’s biggest night in music with a trip to the 2019 JUNO Awards in London, ON, complete with access to JUNO Week events and a performance opportunity during JUNOfest. One artist will be selected to perform in front of over 1,200 music industry elite at the JUNO Gala Dinner and Awards.

The 2017/18 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class winners included Montreal alt-pop trio, Caveboy, London-bred rockers, Ivory Hours, and Halifax hip-hop artist Quake Matthews.

ANN WILSON Details New Album ‘Immortal’ Due Out September 14

0

ANN WILSON of HEART, one of rock’s most distinctive and powerful vocalists, will release her new solo album September 14 on BMG, marking her debut for the label. Fittingly titled IMMORTAL, the album features 10 musically diverse tracks that pay homage to some of the singer’s favorite songs and artists, all of whom have passed away in recent years and whose music poignantly lives on (the full track listing is below).

For the new release, ANN has teamed with original Heart producer Mike Flicker (Dreamboat Annie, Magazine, Little Queen, Dog and Butterfly and Bebe Le Strange, among others). Look for the iconic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee to perform some of the album’s songs when she tours North America this summer with Jeff Beck and Paul Rodgers for the “Stars Align Tour” (see below for full upcoming tour itinerary). The songs will also be featured in ANN’s first-ever solo television special (details TBA), taped this past April at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, IL, to coincide with the album’s release.

ANN chose the album title IMMORTAL after revealing some working titles early on in the project. “The original working titles evolved as the concept for the album evolved; a little bit at a time,” explains ANN. “As my understanding of what I had undertaken grew and clarified, I realized a larger truth; that the souls may have departed but the songs will forever be their resonances. These are the poets of our time and their expressions must be handed down. Poetry is lasting and elemental like carvings in rock.”

The finely etched tracks that comprise IMMORTAL cover a lot of musical ground, with many highlights including songs by Leonard Cohen (“A Thousand Kisses Deep”), Amy Winehouse (“Back to Black”), David Bowie (“I’m Afraid of Americans”), Lesley Gore (“You Don’t Own Me”) and Tom Petty (“Luna”). ANN says the criteria for choosing this collection of songs was easy. “First of all, I had to LOVE them! They had to be songs I could get inside of authentically as a singer. Lyrics are important to me but the most important thing is always the marriage of words and melody that makes the song magic!”

With sexism at the forefront of the national conversation, ANN says this did factor into the inclusion of “You Don’t Own Me.” “‘You Don’t Own Me’ was originally an early feminist anthem in the 1960’s and ’70’s. Since then the idea of self possession has grown to be more universal…This song is about refusing to be objectified and owned. By anyone.”

IMMORTAL includes some very special guests as well. “Warren Haynes plays on Tom Petty’s ‘Luna’ and ‘You Don’t Own Me,'” ANN reveals. “Ben Mink is featured on Leonard Cohen’s ‘A Thousand Kisses Deep’ and Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black.’ They are both musicians and great people whom I admire. It’s always a pleasure and an honor to work with them. Their souls shine through on these songs!”

Producer Mike Flicker brings an important element to IMMORTAL. “Mike was the first producer to believe in me,” ANN says. “He was my first teacher in the studio and knows how to provide that special support needed to bring out my soul in the recording process. It is exciting to work with him for the first time since 1980. I have traveled many, many miles since then but the old feeling is still there and fresh on Immortal. He has fearlessly helped me bring my ideas to life once again and it’s been a great collaboration.”

The IMMORTAL track listing:
“A Different Corner” (George Michael)
“A Thousand Kisses Deep” (Leonard Cohen)
“Back to Black” (Amy Winehouse)
“Baker Street” (Gerry Rafferty)
“I Am the Highway” (Chris Cornell, Audioslave)
“I’m Afraid of Americans” (David Bowie)
“Life in the Fast Lane” (Joe Walsh, The Eagles) in honor of Glenn Frey
“Luna” (Tom Petty)
“Politician” (Cream) in honor of Jack Bruce
“You Don’t Own Me” (Lesley Gore)

The “Stars Align Tour” with Jeff Beck and Paul Rodgers kicks off July 18 in West Valley City, Utah, and makes stops in over 20 cities across the U.S. and Canada including Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Toronto and Nashville, before wrapping August 26 in Tampa. That Time Cartoon Network Aired “The Scooby Doo Project”, A Blair Witch Project Parody Back In 1999

0

The Scooby Doo Project was a live action animated comedy film that aired during and after Cartoon Network’s Halloween Scooby Doo marathon in 1999. It was a spoof on the still scary Blair Witch Project.

The Scooby gang get lost in the woods while trying the solve the mystery of a mysterious creature lurking within the forest.

Alexis Salgado is set to drive you “Crazy” this summer!

0

With music as her passion and Miami as her playground, Cuban-American singer/songwriter Alexis Salgado is quickly rising among the ranks as ‘one to watch.’

“Being an artist in Miami is very different,” shares Salgado on her hometown. “It’s not easy. There’s a lot of competition, a lot of people vying for their shot.

“You always have to work that extra bit harder to succeed.”

Thankfully, working that extra bit harder comes naturally to Salgado. It was during an intense recording session for a different set that the makings of “Crazy” came to be, and she happily added more to her musical plate to do.

“I was actually in the studio recording a different song,” Salgado recalls, describing how “Crazy” came to be. “My producer Shorne showed me this new beat he was working on.

“I could help it. I fell in love with it instantly, and had to start writing to it.”

One listen and it’s easy to hear why. Relatable and infectious, “Crazy” is set to be a summer hit.

“It’s is just one of those songs that sticks with you the way a person sticks with you,” muses Salgado on her feelings behind the song. “It’s about the way someone can make you feel both physically and emotionally when it comes to love.”

Born in San Gabriel, California Salgado moved to Miami by way of San Marino, instilling in her a diverse, bi-coastal perspective. Falling in love with singing at the age of three, she counted herself a veritable songwriter by age eight. Her parents, seeing her talent and keen to support, quickly signed her up for professional singing lessons to finesse her capabilities further.

County fair, city concert and local club appearances soon began to tally on Salgado’s resume and, in 2011, she was approached and signed to her first label deal via Carrillo Music.

From there, she was off to the races… Her first release, “Never Knew” with Liam Keegan, reached #1 in the UK and #35 on the US Billboard Dance charts, and her latest — ”Ride or Die” with Izaar James — hit #32 on the Billboard Mediabase Indicator Charts.

While she counts vocal powerhouses Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton — not to mention the late greats Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston — among her many influences, Alexis Salgado’s talents mean she doesn’t have to work hard to stand in a spotlight all her own.

GORILLAZ Announce North American Tour

0

A brand new studio album from Gorillaz titled The Now Now will be released by Warner Bros. Records on June 29, and they just announced a North American tour.

The Now Now is 11 all-new songs from the World’s Most Successful Virtual Act, produced by Gorillaz, with James Ford and Remi Kabaka, and recorded entirely at Studio 13, London in February this year.

In contrast to the cast of characters that joined the apocalyptic party thrown by Damon Albarn and his cartoon crew on last year’s multiple-GRAMMY-nominated HUMANZ , The Now Now sees the band largely eschewing guest stars, taking it back to the core Gorillaz crew: blue-haired, sweet-natured dreamer 2D on vocals; whip-smart Japanese badass Noodle on guitar; Brooklyn-born philosopher and the meat–behind-the-beat Russel Hobbs on drums. And with Murdoc Niccals temporarily indisposed, bass duties on the new album have been taken up by erstwhile Gangreen Gang member Ace (explaining the “FREE MURDOC” signage that’s been popping up everywhere from Coachella to the Kentucky Derby to Change.org and Reddit).

A sun-drenched new video for “Humility”—the single premiered today on Zane Lowe’s WORLD RECORD on Beats 1 on Apple Music–starring a roller-skating 2D and a busking Jack Black, was directed by Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett and filmed entirely in Venice Beach, California last month – watch it below.

Gorillaz also announced they will bring The Now Now Tour to North America this fall, produced by Live Nation, and culminating in the U.S. debut of Gorillaz’ own acclaimed Demon Dayz Festival. The “joyful apocalypse… and carnivalesque festival of great performances” (The Guardian)” curated by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, promoted and produced by Live Nation – will make its exclusive appearance for this year at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena & Grounds in Los Angeles on October 20th, just 10 minutes from downtown L.A..

The Demon Dayz L.A. lineup will be comprised of special guests and collaborators from within and beyond the Gorillaz extended family. Information on ticket sales and additional attractions will be announced shortly.

See below for The Now Now Tour itinerary which will kick off October 8 in Toronto, ON and make stops in Montreal, Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Chicago. The Internet will support on all headline dates, with Little Dragon joining as special guest for the Boston show. Tickets for all dates will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, June 8th at 10am PST at Ticketmaster.com. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public in the U.S., beginning Friday, June 1 at 10am local through Thursday, June 7 at 10pm local and in Canada, beginning Monday, June 4 at 12pm local through Thursday, June 7 at 12pm local.

The Now Now is available as a single CD, vinyl, at all global digital partners, and as a collector’s edition Deluxe Vinyl LP Box Set.

The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess Reveals Video for “Clutching Insignificance”

0

Tim Burgess has revealed a brand-new video for As I Was Now’s “Clutching Insignificance”. Watch the Chris Walker and Darren Groucutt-directed video below:

Tim Burgess released his new solo album As I Was Now on limited blue vinyl as part of Record Store Day 2018 (April 21st). The album will receive a wide release on all formats including black vinyl tomorrow. Order As I Was Now here. As I Was Now was recorded recorded in Cheshire between December 28th and December 31st 2008.

On November 16th, 2017 Tim Burgess tweeted, asking his followers who they would recruit if they were putting together a band: “Who would you have in your supergroup? Excluding The Charlatans, mine would be: Vocals: Me & Ladyhawke, Guitar: Josh Hayward (The Horrors) Keys: Martin Duffy (Felt/ Primal Scream) Bass: Debbie Googe (My Bloody Valentine) Drums: Steffan Halperin (The Chavs/Klaxons).” The difference was that Tim’s band was not only a real band but they had also recorded As I Was Now.

“It was snowing, Josh had to get back (to London) for New Years Eve,” recalls Burgess. “We were complaining about how boring things were between Christmas and New Year, so we got together to record some songs. It was back then. Not now. Some songs were more complete than others, others appear on this record more finished than others.”

Tracklisting:
Clutching Insignificance
Just One Kiss (One Last Kiss)
Many Clouds

Inspired Again
Another Version Of The Truth
Not Buying
