Aerosmith and Universal Music Group Announce Historic Strategic Global Alliance

0

Aerosmith, the best-selling American hard rock band of all time, and Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, today announced a new expansive worldwide alliance spanning the iconic group’s entire discography, merchandise and audio-video projects, that marks the beginning of a new era in the band’s celebrated and illustrious career.

For the first time, in 2022 all of Aerosmith’s iconic recordings will be unified in one place ahead of the bands upcoming 50thĀ Anniversary, through a new multifaceted partnership with UMG. In addition to supporting the band’s consolidated catalog, this partnership will also make use of unprecedented access to the storied ‘Vindaloo Vaults’ and personal archives of band membersĀ Steven Tyler,Ā Joe Perry,Ā Tom Hamilton,Ā Joey KramerĀ andĀ Brad Whitford, who will actively help curate their collections of music, photos, video footage, artwork, journals, set lists and memorabilia. Future releases will offer fans access to never-before seen and heard gems, that will further cement the band’s position as one of rock’s most ground-breaking and reverential groups in history.

UMG will also be the home of future music projects, as well as work with the band to develop, produce and distribute new film, television and other audio-visual content projects celebrating Aerosmith’s history and significant cultural impact. The partnership expects to announce details of those new music and audio-visual projects shortly. UMG will work hand in hand with the band to continue to introduce Aerosmith and their rich musical legacy to new generations of fans around the world.

Since Aerosmith’s founding 50 years ago, the group has gone on to sell more than 150 million albums around the world; produced genre-defining music videos such as “Amazing,” “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got A Gun,” “Livin’ on the Edge,” and “Love in an Elevator;” launched extravagant record-shattering global tours, most recently with their ongoing smash hitĀ Las VegasĀ residency. The band has broken numerous boundaries, including becoming the first rock band with a massive commercially successful hip-hop collaboration with Run DMC on “Walk This Way” and the first hard rock band to appear during a Super Bowl Halftime Show with their 2001 performance, and in 1999, Aerosmith became the first band to have their own themed attraction at Disney World inĀ Florida, and laterĀ ParisĀ with the launch of theĀ Rock ‘N’ Roller coaster starring Aerosmith.

With broad cultural influence, Aerosmith has prominently appeared in films, television shows and video games, as well as influencing multiple generations of rock bands, both as style icons and acclaimed multi-instrumentalists. MusiCares honored the band in 2020 as Person of the Year for their many artistic achievements and dedication to philanthropy, includingĀ Steven Tyler’sĀ initiative Janie’s Fund initiative, which supports young women who’ve suffered the trauma of abuse and neglect.

Joe Perry, Aerosmith co-founder and lead guitarist, commented,Ā “It’s been a long road but I’m extremely happy and proud to say on behalf of Aerosmith we have been able to bring our 50 years of music under one roof by partnering with UMG. This will allow us to bring our music to our fans in ways we never were able to before. It’s something we’ve dreamed about happening for a long time. It’s a win for Aerosmith, UMG and ultimately our fans. Needless to say we are very excited. It’s an incredible way to celebrate 50 years and the many more years to come.”

SirĀ Lucian Grainge, Chairman & CEO of UMG, said,Ā “Aerosmith’s global success places them in rarefied air among the all-time greatest rock icons. On the band’s 50th anniversary, Aerosmith continues to influence the course of music not only through their iconic catalog but also through film, television and video games and theirĀ inimitable style. On a personal note, I couldn’t be prouder that they have chosen UMG as their global partner. We look forward to building upon their incredible legacy and ensuring their music continues to inspire fans around the world.”

Aerosmith managerĀ Larry RudolphĀ said,Ā “I couldn’t be happier for the band members and their families. Not only are we bringing together the band’s entire catalog in one place, but we’re entrusting these recordings to the very capable hands of Sir Lucian,Ā Bruce ResnikoffĀ and the incredible UMG system worldwide. I would like to thank Sir Lucian for tirelessly working together to craft perhaps the most unique and mutually beneficial catalog arrangement in history and providing a huge commitment to Aerosmith. The members of Aerosmith and I thank him and we all look forward to many years of successfully continuing to share the catalog of the greatest American rock band in history with the world.”Ā

The partnership significantly expands Aerosmith’s historic relationship with UMG. The band recorded some of its biggest-selling albums for Geffen Records, includingĀ Done with MirrorsĀ (1985),Ā Permanent VacationĀ (1987),Ā PumpĀ (1989) andĀ Get a GripĀ (1993). Aerosmith additionally works with Bravado’s Epic Rights for merchandise and has previously released concert films through Eagle Rock Entertainment. Additionally, Aerosmith is part of UMG’s partnership with YouTube bringing music videos into current video and audio standards, with recent releases including “Dude Looks Like a Lady” and “Dream On.”

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, Aerosmith is tied for the most RIAA album certifications by an American group with 25 Gold, 18 Platinum, 12 multi-Platinum and one diamond. As the band was founded inĀ BostonĀ in 1970,Ā April 13Ā has been declared “Aerosmith Day” inĀ MassachusettsĀ by former GovernorĀ William Weld.

The Wiggles Announce Four New Members

0

In an era where diversity and inclusiveness are so vital,Ā The WigglesĀ have developed a new series dedicated to celebrating and embracing those concepts.Ā Fruit Salad TVĀ is set to premiere onĀ September 4, exclusively on The Wiggles’ YouTube channel and will see the popular children’s groupĀ expand their line up to include eight Wiggles.

Fruit Salad TVĀ will feature singing, dancing, storytelling and, of course, the catchiest music that immediately engages children to sing and play along. ButĀ Fruit Salad TVĀ will also seamlessly integrate the concept of embracing diversity in multiple forms, including culture, race, age and gender. The introduction of the new Wiggles’ cast aims to better represent the diversity of the world in which we actually live, whileĀ Fruit Salad TVĀ delivers content that will engage children of all cultures and make them feel recognized and special.

Joining the much-loved current Wiggles ofĀ Anthony, Emma, Lachy,Ā andĀ SimonĀ are a diverse and talented group of dancers and singers from acrossĀ AustraliaĀ who each bring something special to the group.Ā Ā Tsehay HawkinsĀ is an award-winning dancer of Ethiopian descent; Taribelang womanĀ Evie FerrisĀ who is an extremely talented ballet dancer – only the second First Nations woman to have joined The Australian Ballet;Ā John Pearce, of Filipino descent who is known as part of Australian music groupĀ Justice Crew; andĀ Kelly HamiltonĀ who is of Chinese/Australian background and was previously a dancer with The Wiggles as well as other children’s shows such as Sesame Street Live,Ā Justine Clarke, and Dora The Explorer.

Fruit Salad TVĀ was written by founding memberĀ Anthony Field AMĀ who is an accredited expert in Early Childhood Education and has been awarded an Order ofĀ AustraliaĀ in recognition of his service to the arts through children’s entertainment and the community through his charity work. Since Anthony began The Wiggles 30 years ago, the group has strived to entertain, educate and engage all children to promote a sense of understanding of the world around them andĀ Fruit Salad TVĀ is an important evolution for The Wiggles’ brand to reflect today’s pluralistic society.

“The Wiggles were created during a time when early childhood educational concepts were the focus,” saidĀ Anthony Field AM, Blue Wiggle. “As society has evolved, we have embraced the need for diversity and inclusiveness and want childrenĀ all over the world to see themselves reflected on the screen. It’s so important that The Wiggles continue to evolve along with our society. This is the first step towards shaping The Wiggles for the next 30 years, taking us in a direction that truly represents and serves our community more inclusively.

“We are excited for the next chapter in The Wiggles’ history which will start withĀ Fruit Salad TVĀ and continue on with our other content and our live shows. We can’t wait to introduce our amazing new line up of incredibly talented performers to children around the world.”

The Wiggles are also expanding their characters in theĀ Wiggle TownĀ community. Joining the much-lovedĀ Captain Feathersword, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the DogĀ andĀ Henry the OctopusĀ are three new non-binary characters: Ā Officer Beaples, a dancing police officer with a big smile and painted on moustache;Ā Shirley ShawnĀ the UnicornĀ who likes to eat apples and drive around Wiggle Town in a mini red car; andĀ Bok the hand puppet, a timid character who displays emotions for children to empathise with.

Joe Bonamassa Announces Genre Bending New Studio Album ‘Time Clocks’ To Be Released October 29

0

Joe BonamassaĀ has announced the upcoming release of his brand-new studio albumĀ ‘Time Clocks’, due out onĀ October 29. ‘Time Clocks’Ā is a testament to his credentials and a toast to his longtime fans.Ā His new sound has a raw and vital flavor, combined with a resolute skill that can only be gained through years of perseverance and unyielding dedication. It’sĀ Joe BonamassaĀ at his finest, ready to rock. “What started out with the intentions of being a trio record turned into probably my most adventurous and involved record to date,” explainsĀ Bonamassa.Ā His longtime producerĀ Kevin ShirleyĀ adds, “I thinkĀ Joe BonamassaĀ has made an album that is truly transitional. From a blues musician to a superstar artist, [and] I’m so thrilled to be along for the ride.” Joe and Kevin brought on the legendaryĀ Bob Clearmountain to mix the epic tracks, and Bob declares that “This is one of the best albums I’ve mixed in years. Joe is not only one of the finest blues & rock guitarists of our time, he’s also a brilliant songwriter, [which is] impressively apparent on this record.”

Recorded inĀ New York City, the album rediscovers Bonamassa at a newfound peak with heartfelt songwriting and an unparalleled Blues Rock prowess.Ā ‘Time Clocks’Ā follows Joe’s constant evolution as he continues to forge ahead, bending genres, breaking down walls and defying the odds of the music industry. He’s known as “the man in the suit”, loved by many as the ultimate guitar hero, cited by critics as “the world’s biggest blues guitarist” (Guitar World), and now the music mastermind has found yet another layer of immense new artistry to share with his fans. As one of today’s most in-demand touring acts the road has been long and winding, but the rough journey has molded his craft into gold.

For the album, Bonamassa hit the studio with longtime collaboratorsĀ Kevin ShirleyĀ as producer and manager/business partnerĀ Roy WeismanĀ as executive producer. The album was recorded inĀ New York CityĀ at Germano Studios/The Hit FactoryĀ and mixed byĀ Bob ClearmountainĀ (Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Toto, Bon Jovi). The band members includeĀ Steve MackeyĀ (bass),Ā Lachy DoleyĀ (piano),Ā Bunna LawrieĀ (didgeridoo),Ā Bobby SummerfieldĀ (percussion), andĀ Late Night withĀ David Letterman‘sĀ Anton FigĀ (drums and percussion), along withĀ Mahalia Barnes,Ā Juanita Tippins,Ā andĀ Prinnie StevensĀ on backing vocals. The fantastic artwork on the album was created by famous graphic artistĀ Hugh SymeĀ (Rush, Aerosmith, Whitesnake).Ā ‘Time Clocks’Ā will be available on CD, VINYL and Digital and released on Bonamassa’s own record label, J&R Adventures.

Recently Bonamassa dropped hints of the new album with his reeling anthemĀ Notches“,Ā and with today’s exciting news he’s revealed the next Blues-heavy singleĀ “The Heart That Never Waits,”Ā another instant classic that takes a tale of heartbreak and turns it around into an undeniable showstopper meant for the stadiums. Joe sings compassionately with an air of independence, in a voice that’s only gotten better with time – a rarity for an artist with such longevity in their career. These songs are a collection of stories that shed new light on Joe’s life as a journeyman, constantly creating and always on the run.

Looking back on recording during COVID-19 and the original intention behind the album, Bonamassa reflects, “Twenty years ago, I recorded a record of covers that eventually was called ‘Blues Deluxe.’Ā It was recorded at Bobby Nathan’s studio in Manhattan.Ā It captured an energy and purpose that always stuck with me as an artist.Ā I lived inĀ New York CityĀ at the time and times were pretty tough.Ā My weekly routine was a combination of hustling sessions, gigs, and opportunities that seemed few and far between.Ā I was hungry.Ā Literally and figuratively.Ā The music business is tough, very tough. Especially back in those days when major labels pulled all the strings and, in my case, all the punches. I subsisted on a basic diet of peanut butter and jelly and ramen noodles, purchased at the bodega on the corner of 83rd and Columbus Avenue.

Cut to 2019 and I find myself back inĀ New YorkĀ and inspired by the city again. My living conditions had changed dramatically in the subsequent 20 years, but the energy that makesĀ New York CityĀ great still remained.Ā Ā

InĀ February 2021, we found ourselves at Germano Studios, cutting music as a trio (but not trio music) and having to invent ways of making records when your lifelong producer is stuck inĀ AustraliaĀ due to travel restrictions.Ā Kevin Shirley came up with a way of linking continents and consoles to where we had literally zero latency.Ā Add Steve Mackey and Anton Fig to the mix, a few masks and curse words and we have the ‘New York Record’ aka ‘Time Clocks’.”

Now, with an even bolder energy than ever before, Bonamassa holds the power of controlling both his artistry and his business in both hands. With 24 #1 albums, yearly sold-out tours worldwide and custom annual cruises, he’s a hard act to beat. Joe knows his worth, and albeit humble, he plans to continue to beat the odds and exceed the expectations of naysayers.Ā ‘Time Clocks’Ā will also be Bonamassa’s first album mixed to utilize spatial audio with Dolby Atmos and available for fans on Apple Music. Bob Clearmountain adds, “the Atmos version is simply breathtaking.”

In releasing new music that’s destined for the loudspeakers, Joe is elated to get back to the stage. Recently completing a short summer tour in the US, he’ll be back on tour for the fall season with shows across the country before taking the stage at sea for his sold out Keeping The Blues Alive At Sea VII cruise, sailing fromĀ Miami, FLĀ toĀ Ocho Rios, JamaicaĀ onĀ February 21-25, 2022, by way of the Norwegian Pearl. For tickets and full tour dates, visitĀ https://jbonamassa.com/tour-dates/.

As a professional musician for over 30 years,Ā Joe BonamassaĀ continues to blaze a remarkably versatile artistic trail, and amass an authentic, innovative, and soulful body of work. Bonamassa’s career began onstage opening for B.B. King in 1989 when he was only 12 years old. Today, he is hailed worldwide as one of the greatest guitar players of his generation and is an ever-evolving singer-songwriter with over 40 albums to date all under his own label, J&R Adventures.

Joe’s most recent live album, “Now Serving: Royal Tea Live From The Ryman” is available now for streaming, CD, DVD and Blu-Ray. The DVD includes a film introduction narrated by actorĀ Jeff Daniels. To order, visitĀ shop.jbonamassa.com. The stellar performance from one of the world’s most legendary venues includes 12 incredible live tracks, featuring the best from his latest studio releaseĀ Royal Tea,Ā Joe’s 24thĀ #1 record on the Billboard Blues chart, which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios inĀ London.

In addition to his music and shows, Joe continues to crank out weekly programming for his radio show “Different Shades Of Blue” for Sirius XM’s Bluesville channel. Last year, he kicked off a new at-home weekly video interview series “Live From Nerdville” which currently has over 60 episodes aired on his Facebook, YouTube, and podcast outlets. With a new episode each week, Joe has featured conversations withĀ Neal SchonĀ of Journey,Ā John OatesĀ of Hall & Oates,Ā Glenn Hughes,Ā Paul StanleyĀ of Kiss,Ā Warren Haynes, Keb’ Mo’,Ā Walter Trout,Ā Steve LukatherĀ of Toto,Ā Todd Rundgren, comedianĀ Jeff Garlin, esteemed singer-songwriter Dion,Ā Peter Frampton, Fantastic Negrito, and is currently booking new guests for his 3rdĀ season.

Last summer, Bonamassa and his managerĀ Roy WeismanĀ debuted their new record labelĀ Keeping The Blues Alive RecordsĀ by releasing music iconĀ Dion’sĀ critically acclaimed latest albumĀ Blues With Friends.Ā InĀ February 2021, KTBA Records releasedĀ Chicago’sĀ reigning Queen of Blues Guitar,Ā Joanna Connor’sĀ new albumĀ 4801 South Indiana Avenue, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues chart. Earlier this month KTBA Records released the new single “If That Ain’t A Reason” fromĀ Joanne Shaw Taylor’sĀ upcoming new studio album. Dion has just announced a new single with teasing his new album out for late 2021. Stay tuned for future releases atĀ ktbarecords.com

Roger Taylor Featuring KT Tunstall “We’re All Just Trying To Get By” First Single From His ‘Outsider’ Solo Album

0

A hymn to simple pleasures and universal emotions,Ā Roger Taylor’sĀ new singleĀ “We’re All Just Trying to Get ByĀ isĀ available now. Building on more than half a century in music, both inside and outside Queen, this achingly beautiful ballad is a classy curtain-raiser for Roger’s first solo album in eight years,Ā Outsider, due for releaseĀ October 1. The song was conceived in the dark depths of lockdown but taps into brighter feelings, musing on the communal bonds and survival instincts that unite all creatures great and small, even in times of division and isolation.

We’re All Just Trying to Get ByĀ is a gorgeous piece of dreamy pop with a sweeping widescreen melody, a radiant glow and a quietly profound, ultimately uplifting message. Couched in luxuriant liquid guitar and ambient seagull effects, Roger’s wry lyric marvels at how every living thing on Planet Earth, from mighty mammals to tiny insects, from humans to microbes, ultimately has the same aim: to survive, to thrive, and to co-exist as harmoniously as possible.

Like a David Attenborough TV series condensed into three transcendent minutes,Ā “We’re All Just Trying to Get By”Ā feels like a healing balm for the senses after more than a year of pandemic anxiety and socially distanced separation. The song’s underlying philosophy is inclusive, humane and quietly optimistic.

“I tried to highlight the great things in life,” Roger explains. “It’s the simplest statement really. It’s what every life force on Earth is doing: just trying to get by and proliferate and exist. That’s all we are trying to do, from plants to animals to humans, trying to survive. For all our troubles and everything, every sort of life is all just trying to get by. Also, of course, we are in the middle of a bloody pandemic.”

Roger’s inspired choice of vocal guest onĀ “We’re All Just Trying to Get By”Ā is KT Tunstall, the much-feted Scottish singer-songwriter whose prize-winning career includes multiple Brits and anĀ Ivor NovelloĀ award. A late addition to the song’s recording process, KT adds bluesy, grainy counterpoint to Roger’s soulfully husky sighs, a delicious blend of voices that bridges musical genres and generations.

“The track was all finished and it was suggested it might be nice if we got KT involved,” Roger recalls. “I love what she did, I think it really adds to the track. And she’s very clever. I think people forget that she was really the pioneer as far as I know of looping, the looping technique which obviouslyĀ Ed SheeranĀ is brilliant at and has made very popular. But I remember her doing it, what, 15 years ago? Fantastic. She’s a very talented singer and musician and it’s lovely to have her on the track. It’s a very nice partnership.”

For her part, Tunstall was thrilled at the invitation to collaborate with a songwriting legend and inspirational icon. “It was the coolest surprise Roger getting in touch during lockdown and asking me to lend my vocals to this great and meaningful song,” she says. “What a pleasure to work with such a brilliant writer and musical hero.”

Following the single’s release, Roger and his band plan to launch theĀ OutsiderĀ album in grand style with a 14-date UK tour in October. Promising a set list of solo career tracks old and new, plus some crowd-pleasing Queen classics, this is great news for the music-starved masses as we finally emerge from enforced hibernation. Nature is healing, the seasons are changing, soon we can come together again in shared celebration. We are all just trying to get by.

“We’re All Just Trying To Get By” – Roger TaylorĀ featuring KT Tunstall is available now on Streaming Services and as a Digital Download.

The Beatles Get Back To ‘Let It Be’ With Special Edition Releases

0

This fall, The Beatles invite everyone everywhere to get back to the chart-topping 1970 album,Ā Let It Be,Ā with a range of beautifully presented Special Edition packages to be released worldwide onĀ October 15Ā by Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe. Three tracks from the newly remixed and expanded edition make their digital release debuts with today’s preorder launch: “Let It Be” (2021 Stereo Mix), “Don’t Let Me Down” (first rooftop performance), and “For You Blue” (Get Back LP Mix).

TheĀ Let It BeĀ album has been newly mixed by producerĀ Giles MartinĀ and engineer Sam OkellĀ in stereo, 5.1 surround DTS, and Dolby Atmos. The album’s sweeping new Special Edition follows the universally acclaimed remixed and expanded anniversary editions ofĀ Sgt. Pepper‘s Lonely Hearts Club BandĀ (2017),Ā The BEATLESĀ (‘White Album’) (2018), andĀ Abbey RoadĀ (2019). All the newĀ Let It BeĀ releases feature the new stereo mix of the album as guided by the original “reproduced for disc” version byĀ Phil SpectorĀ and sourced directly from the original session and rooftop performance eight-track tapes. The physical and digital Super Deluxe collections also feature 27 previously unreleased session recordings, a four-trackĀ Let It Be EP, and the never before released 14-trackĀ Get BackĀ stereo LP mix compiled by engineer Glyn Johns inĀ May 1969.

OnĀ January 2, 1969,Ā John Lennon,Ā Paul McCartney,Ā George Harrison, andĀ Ringo StarrĀ kickstarted the new year together on a cavernous soundstage at Twickenham Film Studios inĀ London. The Beatles jumped into rehearsals for a project envisioned to get them back to where they once belonged: onstage. For 21 days, cameras and tape recorders documented almost every moment: first atĀ TwickenhamĀ and then at The Beatles’ own Apple Studio, whereĀ Billy PrestonĀ joined them on keyboards. Together they rehearsed brand new originals and jammed on older songs, all captured live and unvarnished.

OnĀ January 30, the cameras and recorders were rolling as The Beatles, with Preston, staged what was to be their final concert on the chilly rooftop of their Savile Row Apple Corps headquarters before a small assembly of family and friends, and any others who were within wind-carried range of their amps. The midday performance broughtĀ London’sĀ West End to a halt as necks craned skyward from the streets and the windows of neighboring buildings were flung open for better vantage. A flurry of noise complaints drew police officers to the rooftop, shutting the concert down after 42 minutes.

Work to compile an album to be called “Get Back” was carried out in April and May by Glyn Johns, who, for his version, included false starts, banter between songs, early takes rather than later, more polished performances, and even “I’ve Got A Feeling” falling apart with John explaining, “I cocked it up trying to get loud.” The Beatles, however, decided to shelve the project’s copious tapes, film reels, and photos, in order to record and release their LP masterpiece,Ā Abbey Road. Drawn from the tapes made inĀ January 1969, plus some sessions which preceded and followed those recordings, The Beatles’ final album,Ā Let It Be, was eventually issued onĀ May 8, 1970Ā (May 18Ā in the U.S.) to accompany the release of theĀ Let It BeĀ film.

The sessions that brought about theĀ Let It BeĀ album and film represent the only time in The Beatles’ career that they were documented at such great length while creating music in the studio. More than 60 hours of unreleased film footage, more than 150 hours of unreleased audio recordings, and hundreds of unpublished photographs have been newly explored and meticulously restored for three complementary and definitive Beatles releases this fall: a feast for the senses spanning the entire archival treasure. The newĀ Let It BeĀ Special Edition is joined by “The Beatles: Get Back”, the hotly-anticipated documentary series directed by three-time OscarĀ®-winning filmmakerĀ Peter Jackson, and a beautiful new hardcover book also titledĀ The Beatles: Get Back. The raw sources explored for the new projects have revealed that a more joyous, benevolent spirit imbued the sessions than was conveyed in the 1970Ā Let It BeĀ film’s 80 minutes.

“I had always thought the original filmĀ Let It BeĀ was pretty sad as it dealt with the break-up of our band, but the new film shows the camaraderie and love the four of us had between us,” writesĀ Paul McCartneyĀ in his foreword for theĀ Let It BeĀ Special Edition book. “It also shows the wonderful times we had together, and combined with the newly remasteredĀ Let It BeĀ album, stands as a powerful reminder of this time. It’s how I want to remember The Beatles.”

When The Beatles arrived atĀ TwickenhamĀ inĀ January 1969, their self-titled albumĀ (AKA ‘The White Album’) was still topping charts around the world following itsĀ November 1968Ā release. They had an ambitious plan in mind for a project that would include a stage performance for a “TV spectacular” and a live album.Ā Michael Lindsay-HoggĀ was hired to direct the concert and document the rehearsals with unfettered “fly-on-the-wall” filming and mono audio recording on two camera-linked Nagra reel-to-reel tape machines.Ā Ethan A. RussellĀ was brought in for exclusive all-access photography. Beatles producerĀ George MartinĀ and engineer Glyn Johns supervised the sound. Johns remembers, “Paul told me he had this idea to do a live concert and he wanted me to engineer it, because I had a reasonably good track record of making live albums.” Impressed by the band’s day-to-day progress with their slate of new songs, Martin later recalled, “It was a great idea, which I thought was well worth working on. A live album of new material. Most people who did a live album would be rehashing old stuff.” After 10 days on the soundstage, The Beatles and the film crew later moved to the band’s more intimate and cozy Apple Studio. There, Johns manned the controls of borrowed equipment from The Beatles’ old stomping ground, Abbey Road Studios, to record on eight-track tape.Ā Billy PrestonĀ was invited to play keyboards with the band at Apple, lifting the sessions with his boundless talent and buoyant bonhomie.

InĀ April 1969, The Beatles rush-released their worldwide number one single “Get Back”/”Don’t Let Me Down”. Promoted as “The Beatles as nature intended” and “as live as can be, in this electronic age,” both sides of the disc were credited to “The Beatles withĀ Billy Preston“. “The greatest surprise was when the record came out,” Preston remembered in 2002. “They didn’t tell me they were going to put my name on it! The guys were really kind to me.” The “Let It Be” single produced byĀ George Martin, releasedĀ March 6, 1970, is different from the album version “reproduced” byĀ Phil Spector. ExemplifyingĀ Spector’s signature Wall of Sound production style on theĀ Let It BeĀ album is his orchestral overdub on “The Long and Winding Road”, which became The Beatles’ 20thĀ U.S. number one single.

Directed byĀ Peter JacksonĀ (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “They Shall Not Grow Old”), “The Beatles: Get Back” takes audiences back in time to the band’s intimate recording sessions during a pivotal moment in music history. Because of the wealth of tremendous footage Jackson has reviewed, which he has spent the past three years restoring and editing, “The Beatles: Get Back” will be presented as three separate episodes. Each episode is approximately two hours in length, rolling out over three days,Ā November 25, 26 and 27, 2021, exclusively on Disney+.

The documentary series showcases the warmth, camaraderie and creative genius that defined the legacy of the iconic foursome, compiled from over 60 hours of unseen footage shot inĀ January 1969Ā (byĀ Michael Lindsay-Hogg)Ā and more than 150 hours of unheard audio, all of which has been brilliantly restored. Jackson is the only person in 50 years to have been given access to these private film archives. “The Beatles: Get Back” is the story ofĀ John Lennon,Ā Paul McCartney,Ā George HarrisonĀ andĀ Ringo StarrĀ as they plan their first live show in over two years, capturing the writing and rehearsing of 14 new songs, originally intended for release on an accompanying live album. The documentary features – for the first time in its entirety – The Beatles’ last live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert onĀ London’sĀ Savile Row,Ā as well as other songs andĀ classic compositions featured onĀ the band’s final two albums,Ā Abbey RoadĀ andĀ Let It Be. The music in the series is also newly mixed byĀ Giles MartinĀ (“Rocketman”) andĀ Sam OkellĀ (“Yesterday”).

Ahead of the series’ debut, Apple Corps Ltd./Callaway ArtsĀ & Entertainment will releaseĀ The Beatles: Get BackĀ book worldwide onĀ October 12. Available in English and nine international language editions,Ā The Beatles: Get BackĀ is the first official standalone book to be released by The Beatles since international bestsellerĀ The Beatles Anthology. Beautifully designed and produced, the 240-page hardcover complements the “Get Back” documentary series andĀ Let It BeĀ Special Edition with transcriptions of many of The Beatles’ recorded conversations from the three weeks of rehearsals and sessions and hundreds of exclusive, never-before-published images, including photos byĀ Ethan A. RussellĀ andĀ Linda McCartney.Ā The Beatles: Get BackĀ begins with a foreword written byĀ Peter JacksonĀ and an introduction byĀ Hanif Kureishi. The book’s texts are edited byĀ John Harris.
