Barenaked Ladies to be inducted into Canadian Music Hall of Fame at 2018 JUNO Awards

0

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CBC are pleased to announce the 2018 inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame will be world-renowned rockers Barenaked Ladies – Ed Robertson, Jim Creeggan, Kevin Hearn and Tyler Stewart – alongside original member, co-founder and singer-songwriter Steven Page. The band celebrates their 30th anniversary this year, marking three decades as legendary performers and one of Canada’s most celebrated collectives, earning countless accolades including eight JUNO Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and multiple Grammy nominations.

The Canadian Music Hall of Fame was created by CARAS in 1978 to acknowledge artists who have made an outstanding contribution to the international recognition of Canadian music. Barenaked Ladies will come together for a one-time special appearance with Steven Page on Sunday, March 25 at The 47th Annual JUNO Awards Broadcast on CBC, to mark their induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

The band will join the ranks of Canadian music icons in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, including Alanis Morissette, Anne Murray, Blue Rodeo, Bruce Cockburn, Joni Mitchell, k.d. lang, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Oscar Peterson, RUSH, The Guess Who, The Tragically Hip, Shania Twain and 2017 inductee Sarah McLachlan. In 2016 the Canadian Music Hall of Fame found a permanent home with the opening of Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre.

“We are honoured to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame,” said Ed Robertson.“For almost 30 years we’ve worked hard to write the best songs we can, make the best records we can make, and do the best shows possible. We’ve travelled the world with our music, but Canada has always been home. This is very special for us.”

“I have so many great memories of my years with Barenaked Ladies, from our beginning in our parents’ basements to playing our songs for audiences all over the world,” said Steven Page.“I’m incredibly proud of all we achieved together, the greatest of all being the fact that our music continues to be a part of so many Canadians’ lives. Congratulations to the guys – I’m humbled by our induction into the Hall of Fame. Here’s hoping that next year we will be inducted into Hall and Oates.”

We are thrilled to be inducting the Barenaked Ladies, alongside Steven Page, into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. For nearly 30 years, their work has dominated charts both globally and domestically as they have grown to become one of the country’s most celebrated musical acts, ” said Allan Reid, President & CEO CARAS/The JUNO Awards and MusiCounts. “We look forward to celebrating all of their achievements and welcoming them into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2018 JUNO Awards in Vancouver.

Formed in 1988 in Scarborough, Ontario, the chart-topping Barenaked Ladies have been making music for three decades and have sold over 15 million albums worldwide. The band’s style has evolved significantly over the course of their career, favouring acoustic in the early days and growing to encompass a mixture of genres. The 1991 release of The Yellow Tape, initially meant as a demo cassette, would go on to become the first independent tape to ever achieve platinum status, with over 100,000 copies sold in Canada. Following multiple indie cassette releases, the band signed to Sire Records, with whom they released their first full album entitled Gordon. Gordon was a cultural phenomenon in Canada and was certified Diamond (selling over 1 million records). Stunt, released in 1998, would become the band’s most commercially successful record, climbing all the way to No.3 on the Billboard album chart, anchored by the smash hit “One Week,” which peaked at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The band has seen incredible success over their lengthy career with international tours including performances at Madison Square Garden, The Royal Albert Hall and Wembley. Known for such hits as “Pinch Me,” “It’s All Been Done,” “Brian Wilson,” “If I Had $1,000,000,” “Jane,” “Odds Are” and many more, the band also penned the theme song for the hit CBS series, The Big Bang Theory. In 2013 Barenaked Ladies collaborated with Commander Chris Hadfield on the song “I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing),” recorded while the Canadian astronaut was in orbit in the International Space Station. Later that year their 10th studio release, Grinning Streak, debuted at #10 on the Billboard Top 200 followed by 2015’s Silverball and most recently FAKE NUDES, lauded as one of their most dynamic albums to date.

Praised not only for their palpable on-stage chemistry, camaraderie and characteristic improv style, Barenaked Ladies have been recognized for their ongoing philanthropic initiatives. The band was a founding member of Barenaked Planet – Powered by Reverb in 2004 and have since “greened” every tour date, offsetting over 300 metric tonnes of carbon. Barenaked Ladies have also donated their time and effort to Free the Children/WEday, ABC Life Literacy Canada, David Suzuki Foundation – The Blue Dot Tour, and Camp Oochiegeas.

Tickets for The 2018 JUNO Awards are currently on sale through the Rogers Arena Box Office, by phone at 1-855-985-5000 and online at ticketmaster.ca.

What Would Happen If Bruce Lee Fought With Lightsabers? This.

Patrick Nan answered a question nobody asked, but I’m sure glad he did. He added lightsabers to Bruce Lee’s martial arts fight sequence from Fist of Fury and turned into a sci-fi kung-fu express.

Kenny Chesney Signs With Warner Music Nashville

0

Warner Music Group and Warner Music Nashville are honored to welcome eight-time ACM winner and CMA Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney to the Warner Music family. As part of WMN, the songwriter/superstar’s music will be released on the Blue Chair Records/Warner Bros. Records label.

Since leaving East Tennessee with a handful of songs and a dream bigger than he understood, Kenny Chesney has developed into the man The Wall Street Journal deemed “The King of the Road” and the Los Angeles Times proclaimed “The People’s Superstar.” With over 30 million albums sold, 30 No. 1s, and countless sold-out stadium tours that sell in excess of a million tickets every time he takes to the road, the 2018 Country Album of the Year Grammy nominee is on the verge of yet another creative renaissance.

“It is a big deal to change labels,” said Chesney. “But when you hear Max, Espo, and Cris Lacy talk about music, about what it means and does, when you hear that passion, you can’t help but get fired up. To me, music is only complete when it gets to the fans and becomes part of their lives. The people at Warner understand my commitment to that idea, and they’re just as committed to those ideals as I am.”

“Kenny Chesney embodies the relentless pursuit of artistic freedom and expression,” said WMN Chairman & CEO John Esposito. “An unapologetic free spirit, he has built a career on perseverance, drive, innovation, and most especially, great songs. Everything he does is inspired. It is with deep respect and honor that we welcome Kenny to Warner Music Nashville. We couldn’t be more excited to work with him and his team.”

“Kenny’s not only a country music icon, but an American superstar, who’s still hungry to write, record, and perform amazing music that moves millions of people,” said Warner Music Group CEO, Recorded Music Max Lousada. “The fact that he has chosen Warner Music as his new label home is a huge testament to the culture created by Espo and his team, who have made our Nashville operation a magnet for both emerging talent and established artists. I join Espo in welcoming Kenny into the Warner family, and we’re all looking forward to amplifying his success and taking his music to fans across the globe.”

Legendary Manager Bruce Allen’s Advice To Younger Managers

0

What’s the one piece of advice you would give to a young manager today?

Listen.

When someone who’s been in the game a while takes time to talk to you, just listen.

Also, you gotta trust each other. I have never, never, never had an act under contract. When I left Martina McBride, there were no lawsuits, no nothing, I was gone. I’ve had acts, like Tom Cochrane, where I just couldn’t work with this person anymore. No contract is gonna hold that together. I don’t need to sign a contract with anyone.

I don’t have side deals, I look after my people and I’ve never had any complaints. Listen, if I wasn’t able to do the job, I’m sure I’d be fired. But I don’t care what anybody says, my track record speaks for itself.

I’ve been here a long time, I’ve broken five acts, I don’t need to sign a contract, I shake your hand and that’s good enough for me.

Jack White Announces World Tour In Support Of “Boarding House Reach”

0

Hot on the heels of announcing his new album BOARDING HOUSE REACH out March 23 and releasing the first single, “Connected by Love,” Jack White has unveiled an extensive run of North American headline tour dates, along with shows in London, Paris, and Amsterdam. These dates, spanning from April to August, also include stops at the previously announced festivals — Governors Ball, Shaky Knees, and Boston Calling. The full list of tour dates can be found below.

Tickets for the just-announced headline dates will go on sale to the general public on January 26 at 10am local time. Third Man Records Vault members will have access to the very first pre-sale starting on January 22 at 10am local time. Sign up for Vault Package #35 featuring the ONLY limited edition version of the album + to gain ticket pre-sale access FIRST here.

Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets in advance of the public on sale during the Ticketmaster Verified Fan pre-sale to ensure tickets get directly into the hands of the fans. Registration for Ticketmaster Verified Fan is currently open and continues until January 19 at 11:59 PM ET. Verified Fan registration is available here.

Additionally, every online ticket purchased in North America for the new headline shows will include a physical copy of BOARDING HOUSE REACH on CD. Fans will also have the option to upgrade their CD to the standard black vinyl LP.

BOARDING HOUSE REACH sees Jack White expanding his musical palate with perhaps his most ambitious work thus far, a collection of songs that are simultaneously timeless and modern. Written and conceived while holed up in a spartan apartment with no outside distractions, White replicated the identical environment and used the same gear as when he was a 15 year old (a quarter-inch four-track tape recorder, a simple mixer, and the most basic of instrumentation) to pen sketches of the album’s songs. The album explores a remarkable range of sonic terrain — crunching rock ‘n’ roll, electro and hard funk, proto punk, hip hop, gospel blues, and even country — all remapped and born anew to fit White’s matchless vision and sense of restless experimentation. BOARDING HOUSE REACH is a testament to the breadth of Jack White’s creative power and his bold artistic ambition.

BOARDING HOUSE REACH is heralded by the rapidly acclaimed new single, “Connected By Love” b/w “Respect Commander,” which is available now digitally worldwide and as a physical 7-inch vinyl single pressed at Third Man Pressing in Detroit, MI.

“Connected By Love” is accompanied by a brand-new music video from director Pasqual Gutierrez — watch it now HERE. The single was greeted with rapturous global applause upon its arrival, with Billboard declaring the song “a classic White confessional blues burner,” and Entertainment Weekly calling it “a searing, organ-lined plea to a former flame.” NPR’s Bob Boilen wrote, “it’s a blend of old guitar blues that is simultaneously on the edge of rock’s horizon.” “The four-year wait is over,” says Rolling Stone — Jack is back with the “blistering first single” from BOARDING HOUSE REACH.
