Known to the world as one of the heaviest songs of all time, Black Sabbath’s War Pigs has reached a level of popular acclaim that would even surprise the band members. Take this video of Aaron Gage performing the song with his loop station and electric cello/voice at Fishhead Cantina. It’s still not for the weak-hearted, with a new level of verve.

Three-time Juno award winner Ron Sexsmith has today revealed details about his new album, The Last Rider. Scheduled for release on Friday, April 21, this, Ron’s thirteenth studio recording was co-produced at The Bathouse Studios in Kingston, Ontario by longtime drummer and collaborator Don Kerr and Sexsmith. The album is his first album to include Ron’s touring band.
“At this point, it’s just second nature for me to write short, melodic songs that say everything I want to say,” says Sexsmith. “But having my band totally involved on this album maybe brought out more in the songs than on other recent albums. It felt special, anyway.”
In addition to album release details, Ron has also today announced the dates for his upcoming Canadian tour. Every concert ticket purchased for Ron Sexsmith’s The Last Rider tour will include a digital copy of his new album The Last Rider. Beginning today, fans who purchase concert tickets or pre-order The Last Rider from iTunes or on CD/LP from Ron’s Official Store prior to the album’s April 21 release, will receive five new songs instantly including the single “Radio”. Philips, the global leaders in health technology – although mostly known for their production of electronics – has launched its latest campaign in Australia which is aimed at healthcare professionals and wants to show the world how Philips sees healthcare differently.
The campaign was created by creative agency Ogilvy & Mather London and its story-line is inspired by true events and actions of Roger Corcoran, who has been cleaning windows the at Children’s Center of Mayo Clinic in Minnesota dressed as Spiderman to see a “smile on the little guys faces”. And that exactly corresponds with the goal of the campaign which suggests that: “There’s always a way to make life better.”

On the 25th anniversary of her platinum selling Ingénue album and the huge hit “Constant Craving,” which launched her into stardom around the world, k.d. lang is about to hit the road solo across Canada. Fans in 17 cities coast to coast, from Victoria, B.C. to St. John’s, NL, will have the pleasure of experiencing lang live as she brings her singular singing style to classics from her 30 year repertoire. These memorable evenings take place over 23 shows from August 12 to September 19, 2017, in a tour presented by AEG Live.
After exploring different creative platforms in recent years, this unique and multi-talented performer is returning to the stage in celebration of her first love, promising to take her music to new heights on this brand new cross-Canada tour. Fans of the chanteuse won’t want to miss this opportunity to catch lang live, in a rare treat that seldom comes along.
Tickets go on sale Friday, March 3 at 10am local time. Fan club members can purchase tickets during the presale beginning Thursday, March 2 at 10 am local time. Tickets are available at AEGLive.com. NAC subscribers and donors can purchase tickets to the NAC Gala during the NAC presale starting today (Thursday, February 23) at 3pm EST.
2017 is a landmark year for lang, as it represents the 25th anniversary of the release of her groundbreaking Ingénue album and the 150th anniversary of Canada. The convergence of these two anniversaries is momentous for the singer. Lang is an important part of the fabric of music in Canada, thanks to her original music, the music that’s inspired her and the other artists that she has covered in her own unique renditions. As a result of her deep connection to Canadian music, she’s been invited to be one of Canada’s 150th Ambassadors.
Fans excited for the tour know she is renowned for her live shows, prompting the New York Times’ Stephen Holden to observe: “Few singers command such perfection of pitch. Her voice, at once beautiful and unadorned and softened with a veil of smoke, invariably hits the middle of a note and remains there.”
As part of this new tour lang will perform songs from Ingénue along with hits from her 2004 album Hymns of the 49th Parallel, which featured lang singing the songs that define her country by fellow Canadians, including: Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Jane Siberry, Ron Sexsmith, and Bruce Cockburn.
After first appearing on stage as the cowgirl with the golden voice, she went on to become the crooner who sang “Constant Craving” and also achieved much success interpreting other artists’ songs. Pervading all her interpretations is a sense of melancholy that lang manages to render with nuance and grace. Some of her most memorable recordings are the (now-iconic) rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” Roy Orbison’s “Crying,” and her collaboration with Tony Bennett on their 2002 Wonderful World duets album. She later joined Bennett for a successful co-headlining concert tour. He says of lang: “She’s the best singer of her generation.”
Branching out into uncharted territory isn’t foreign to lang. In 2014, she guest-starred in the hit TV show Portlandia, playing an exaggerated version of herself. In 2015, the Alberta Ballet staged an original performance piece called Balletlujah!, based on the life and music of lang. The creative process and dance numbers were also turned into a film of the same name, featuring lang’s participation, which aired on the CBC.
lang has recently been working with new collaborators: indie icon Neko Case and respected singer/songwriter Laura Veirs. The three joined forces to write and record the album case/lang/veirs, which was released in June, 2016.

ABBA – Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music, topping the charts worldwide from 1974 to 1982. With all of their success, you would think we’d all know a lot about them, but when you think about it, they’re really one of the most secretive, kept to themselves, and quiet bands of all time.
Even when a decade after their breakup, very little was really known about them. Which is likely by the BBC cast John Peel in this 1993 retrospective documentary called A Is For Abba and added Ray Davies, Elvis Costello, Roy Wood, and Ian McCulloch for good measure. Add parody skits from Not the Nine O’Clock News and French and Saunders, and you’ve got this documentary as close to what we may know for a while.
King Crimson have officially announced a previously mentioned summer U.S. tour, as well as plans for a new 12-inch single. Set for April release, King Crimson’s as-yet-untitled single marks their first new music since 2003’s The Power to Believe. Band founder Robert Fripp is joined by returning long-time Crimson members Tony Levin, Jakko Jakszyk and Mel Collins. They’re also bringing four drummers: Bill Rieflin, Gavin Harrison, Pat Mastelotto and Jeremy Stacey. Which is one more than…well…anyone else, really.
