Japanese Hip-Hop Duo Creepy Nuts Score Historic Dual RIAA Gold Milestone

0

Japanese hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts have made history in the United States, becoming the first Japanese artists to earn RIAA Gold certification for two Japanese-language songs. “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” and “Otonoke” have each surpassed 500,000 units in the U.S., marking a rare milestone for non-English-language hip-hop in the American market.

“Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” has surpassed 900 million global streams and reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Global 200, while “Otonoke” was named the most-streamed Japanese song overseas in 2025 according to Billboard Japan and Spotify year-end data. The sustained performance of both tracks underscores the duo’s growing international reach rather than a single viral moment.

In tandem with the achievement, vinyl pre-orders for their latest album ‘LEGION’ have launched in the U.S. and Japan. Designed for analog playback, the release features mixing and mastering from Alex Tumay and Mike Bozzi, emphasizing low-end depth and dynamic range for collectors and audiophiles.

Creepy Nuts will support the milestone with their North America Tour 2026, including two Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival appearances and headline dates in New York, Chicago and Mexico City.

U2 Surprise-Release ‘Days of Ash’ EP

0

U2 have surprise-released a new six-song EP, ‘Days of Ash,’ arriving in conjunction with Ash Wednesday. The project features five new band compositions and a poem by Yehuda Amichai, alongside a collaboration with Ed Sheeran and Ukrainian singer Taras Topolia, who previously joined the band for a 2022 performance in Kyiv.

Recorded over the past year, the EP centers on real lives cut short, including Minneapolis mother Renée Good, Iranian schoolgirl Sarina Esmailzadeh and Palestinian father Awdah Hathaleen. The track “Yours Eternally” will also receive a short documentary directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Ilya Mikhaylus, set for release next week on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“The songs on Days of Ash are very different in mood and theme to the ones we’re going to put on our album later in the year,” Bono said in a press release. “These EP tracks couldn’t wait; these songs were impatient to be out in the world. They are songs of defiance and dismay, of lamentation. Songs of celebration will follow, we’re working on those now.”

Alongside the EP, U2 are reviving their long-running Propaganda zine with a 52-page issue titled ‘U2 – Days of Ash: Six Postcards From The Present… Wish We Weren’t Here.’ The publication includes lyrics, notes from each band member, a Bono Q&A and interviews tied to the “Yours Eternally” film. A new full-length album is slated for late 2026, following 2023’s ‘Songs of Surrender.’

A Place To Bury Strangers Unearth ‘Rare And Deadly’

0

New York noise-rock force A Place To Bury Strangers announce their rarities collection ‘Rare And Deadly,’ out April 3 via Dedstrange, alongside the release of lead single “Everyone’s The Same.” Arriving on the heels of 2024’s ‘Synthesizer,’ the new album pulls from a decade of demos, B-sides and unreleased experiments spanning 2015 to 2025.

Drawn from Oliver Ackermann’s personal archive of late-night recordings and abandoned sessions, the material captures the band in raw form. These tracks sit somewhere between breakthrough and collapse, with blown-out textures, fractured melodies and pedals pushed beyond their limits. “Everyone’s The Same” channels that tension, layering beauty and distortion until the edges blur.

Reflecting on the track, Ackermann shares: “I had a dream where a man led me to a brook, peaceful and calm. When he turned his head slightly, I saw the most evil smile imaginable. But when I looked directly at him, it was just the back of his head again. Beauty and horror coexisting in the same space. It felt like hell leaking into something serene. Maybe that’s reality sometimes. And maybe pretending otherwise is a kind of survival.”

‘Rare And Deadly’ also arrives with an unusual release concept. The CD, cassette, vinyl and digital editions each feature entirely different tracklists, meaning no single format contains the same version of the album. Every edition opens a separate window into the band’s archive, creating a shifting document that mirrors the instability and electricity at its core.

Texas alt-rock veterans Toadies return with a new studio album, ‘The Charmer,’ out May 1 on Spaceflight Records. Recorded with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago, the album stands among the final projects he completed before his passing. The sessions were tracked and mixed fully analog, capturing the band live with no computers involved.

“Working with Steve was, quite literally, a dream come true,” says bassist Doni Blair. “In my opinion it was the best recording session I’ve had in 35 years of making albums.” Frontman Vaden Lewis adds, “This album has been a long time in the works, and it’s such a joy to see it come together, we went back to basics for this session: all analogue, live takes, high energy.” Drummer Mark Reznicek calls the collaboration a decades-long wish fulfilled.

The album marks another first with the band signing to Austin-based Spaceflight Records, a nonprofit label founded by Brett Orrison, Sam Douglas and Eric Bice. Guitarist Clark Vogeler points to a new classic rock thread woven into the material, citing touches of ZZ Top, Boston, Bob Seger and the Rolling Stones, while keeping the band’s core intensity intact.

Psychedelic Trio The Stingrays Drift And Detonate On ‘Summer of You’

0

London psychedelic trio The Stingrays return with new single ‘Summer of You,’ a track that captures their offbeat charm and tight musical chemistry. Made up of Hector Delicious, George van den Broek and Milo Goldsmith, the band lean into humor, British eccentricity and years of shared history to build a sound that feels both playful and deeply seasoned.

‘Summer of You’ begins as a relaxed groove, laid-back and warm, before erupting into a sharp, breakneck guitar solo in its closing stretch. The shift feels earned, a release that highlights their control as players. It is a song that moves through light and shadow without losing its sense of character.

“Summer Of You is a song about melancholy around heartbreak and new beginnings. The need to move on from a person or a ‘summer’ despite its warmth and light. Saying that although the summer is a lovely time, it has to come to an end and give way to the next season, as is only natural. That all good things must come to an end no matter how much you don’t want them to,” the band explain.

The trio have been playing together for nearly a decade, first touring globally from the age of 16 under George van den Broek’s Yellow Days project. A sold-out summer residency on Brick Lane in East London sharpened their live dynamic, and a recent praised performance at Live At Leeds reinforced their growing reputation. With ‘Summer of You,’ The Stingrays continue shaping their own colorful corner of modern psychedelia.

Glasgow Indie-Rock Risers The Rooks Unveil “Found My Reason Why” Video

0

Glasgow indie-rock five-piece The Rooks have revealed the official video for “Found My Reason Why.” Shot by longtime collaborator Daniel Blake, the grainy clip captures the band performing against the stark tower blocks of their hometown. The setting grounds the track in something raw and local, matching the urgency in the song.

Earlier this month, The Rooks announced their debut EP ‘Noise & Confusion’ will receive its first physical pressing on vinyl. They sold 100 personalized copies to fans in just 30 minutes, a clear sign of the connection they have built in a short time. Released last November as a love letter to their supporters, the EP continues to gain momentum.

“We’re looking to give back to the fans that were here at the very start. This is going to be a very big year,” the band shared. That energy is already visible on stage. The Rooks recently made their London debut at The Victoria in Dalston for The Money Trench Podcast and have supported Miles Kane, Brògeal, Overpass and The Academic across January and February.

They closed out last year with a sold-out headline show at Glasgow Art School, filling the 500-capacity room in the final week of December. The combination of packed hometown shows, growing festival buzz and new visuals signals a band moving quickly and bringing their audience along for the ride.

Irish Neo-Soul Standout Carrie Baxter Opens Up On “Change”

0

Rising Irish neo-soul artist Carrie Baxter returns with “Change,” out now, a deeply personal preview of her forthcoming album ‘Seven,’ arriving March 11. Known for blending neo-soul, R&B and jazz with confessional songwriting, Baxter continues to build a sound rooted in vulnerability and emotional precision.

“Change” unfolds with dreamlike verses and spoken-word passages before rising into a gospel-tinged chorus that lingers long after it lands. The arrangement feels spacious yet intimate, giving her voice room to carry the weight of the story. It is a striking showcase of restraint and release, anchored by a chorus that resonates with conviction.

Speaking on the track, Carrie shares, “This song didn’t come easily to me. It forced me to sit with the parts of myself I’d avoided for years, the patterns I carried from childhood that I knew I had to face”. That honesty runs through the song, reinforcing her reputation for emotionally driven storytelling.

With more than 80 million Spotify streams, Baxter’s ascent has drawn attention from outlets including COLORS, Wonderland and The Irish Independent, alongside radio support from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Jazz FM. Following earlier singles “Under My Skin,” “Loved You Before” and “Open Up Your Arms,” “Change” marks another confident step toward ‘Seven.’

San Francisco Proto-Industrial Legends Chrome Resurface With ‘The Visitation’ 50th Anniversary Reissue

0

Cleopatra Records have unveiled “Return To Zanzibar” ahead of their 50th anniversary reissue of Chrome’s 1976 debut album ‘The Visitation,’ arriving April 17. Long out of reach for most collectors, original pressings have commanded steep resale prices, making this edition a welcome return for one of underground rock’s most uncompromising statements.

Formed in mid-1970s San Francisco around founder Damon Edge, alongside John Cyborg, Mike Low and Gary Spain, Chrome built a sound that rejected convention. Electric violin, Moog, guitars, bass, tape machines and a refusal to play by the rules fueled a record that tore into psychedelic punk and rebuilt it in harsher, stranger form. The influence of Can, Jimi Hendrix, Captain Beefheart and The Residents runs deep, but the result feels singular.

Industrial music’s roots echo throughout ‘The Visitation,’ and its strain of space rock carries a jagged edge that still feels volatile. A startling new video for “Return To Zanzibar” underscores that volatility, pairing the track’s restless energy with vivid visuals. The reissue also features liner notes by Chrome historian Neil Martinson, offering deeper context into the album’s creation and legacy.

The CD edition expands the story with a bonus disc collecting two Damon Edge solo albums, 1986’s ‘Grand Visions’ and 1987’s ‘Surreal Rock.’ Together, they showcase the restless imagination that powered Chrome from the beginning.
