U2 Surprise-Release ‘Days of Ash’ EP

U2 have surprise-released a new six-song EP, ‘Days of Ash,’ arriving in conjunction with Ash Wednesday. The project features five new band compositions and a poem by Yehuda Amichai, alongside a collaboration with Ed Sheeran and Ukrainian singer Taras Topolia, who previously joined the band for a 2022 performance in Kyiv.

Recorded over the past year, the EP centers on real lives cut short, including Minneapolis mother Renée Good, Iranian schoolgirl Sarina Esmailzadeh and Palestinian father Awdah Hathaleen. The track “Yours Eternally” will also receive a short documentary directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Ilya Mikhaylus, set for release next week on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“The songs on Days of Ash are very different in mood and theme to the ones we’re going to put on our album later in the year,” Bono said in a press release. “These EP tracks couldn’t wait; these songs were impatient to be out in the world. They are songs of defiance and dismay, of lamentation. Songs of celebration will follow, we’re working on those now.”

Alongside the EP, U2 are reviving their long-running Propaganda zine with a 52-page issue titled ‘U2 – Days of Ash: Six Postcards From The Present… Wish We Weren’t Here.’ The publication includes lyrics, notes from each band member, a Bono Q&A and interviews tied to the “Yours Eternally” film. A new full-length album is slated for late 2026, following 2023’s ‘Songs of Surrender.’

A Place To Bury Strangers Unearth ‘Rare And Deadly’

New York noise-rock force A Place To Bury Strangers announce their rarities collection ‘Rare And Deadly,’ out April 3 via Dedstrange, alongside the release of lead single “Everyone’s The Same.” Arriving on the heels of 2024’s ‘Synthesizer,’ the new album pulls from a decade of demos, B-sides and unreleased experiments spanning 2015 to 2025.

Drawn from Oliver Ackermann’s personal archive of late-night recordings and abandoned sessions, the material captures the band in raw form. These tracks sit somewhere between breakthrough and collapse, with blown-out textures, fractured melodies and pedals pushed beyond their limits. “Everyone’s The Same” channels that tension, layering beauty and distortion until the edges blur.

Reflecting on the track, Ackermann shares: “I had a dream where a man led me to a brook, peaceful and calm. When he turned his head slightly, I saw the most evil smile imaginable. But when I looked directly at him, it was just the back of his head again. Beauty and horror coexisting in the same space. It felt like hell leaking into something serene. Maybe that’s reality sometimes. And maybe pretending otherwise is a kind of survival.”

‘Rare And Deadly’ also arrives with an unusual release concept. The CD, cassette, vinyl and digital editions each feature entirely different tracklists, meaning no single format contains the same version of the album. Every edition opens a separate window into the band’s archive, creating a shifting document that mirrors the instability and electricity at its core.

Toadies Return With ‘The Charmer’ Produced By Steve Albini And New Tour Dates

Texas alt-rock veterans Toadies return with a new studio album, ‘The Charmer,’ out May 1 on Spaceflight Records. Recorded with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago, the album stands among the final projects he completed before his passing. The sessions were tracked and mixed fully analog, capturing the band live with no computers involved.

“Working with Steve was, quite literally, a dream come true,” says bassist Doni Blair. “In my opinion it was the best recording session I’ve had in 35 years of making albums.” Frontman Vaden Lewis adds, “This album has been a long time in the works, and it’s such a joy to see it come together, we went back to basics for this session: all analogue, live takes, high energy.” Drummer Mark Reznicek calls the collaboration a decades-long wish fulfilled.

The album marks another first with the band signing to Austin-based Spaceflight Records, a nonprofit label founded by Brett Orrison, Sam Douglas and Eric Bice. Guitarist Clark Vogeler points to a new classic rock thread woven into the material, citing touches of ZZ Top, Boston, Bob Seger and the Rolling Stones, while keeping the band’s core intensity intact.

Earlier this month, The Rooks announced their debut EP ‘Noise & Confusion’ will receive its first physical pressing on vinyl. LCD Soundsystem Add Boston Residency And Reno Date

CD Soundsystem have expanded their spring 2026 touring schedule with five newly announced shows. The New York City dance-rock mainstays will return to Boston for a four-night run at Roadrunner from April 30 through May 3, followed by a May 24 stop at the Grand Theatre at The Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.

Tickets for the Reno show go on sale Friday, February 20 at 10am local time. The Boston residency goes on sale Friday, February 27 at 10am local time. An artist presale for Boston runs from Tuesday, February 24 at 10am through Thursday, February 26 at 10pm local time. All ticketing details are available via the band’s official site.

The newly announced dates join an already stacked run that includes four nights at Chicago’s Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom from March 5 through March 8, plus a May 23 appearance at Bottlerock Napa Valley. Exek will open the Boston shows, with Reno support to be announced.

Formed in mid-1970s San Francisco around founder Damon Edge, alongside John Cyborg, Mike Low and Gary Spain, Chrome built a sound that rejected convention. Electric violin, Moog, guitars, bass, tape machines and a refusal to play by the rules fueled a record that tore into psychedelic punk and rebuilt it in harsher, stranger form. The influence of Can, Jimi Hendrix, Captain Beefheart and The Residents runs deep, but the result feels singular.

Industrial music’s roots echo throughout ‘The Visitation,’ and its strain of space rock carries a jagged edge that still feels volatile.
