Carlos Santana Will Bring Transmogrify Tour to the U.S. This Spring

0

en time GRAMMY-Award, three time Latin GRAMMY®-Award winning rock icon and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana and his band SANTANA will bring The Transmogrify Tour to the U.S. this spring, performing passion-filled songs from their forty years of career, including fan favorites from Woodstock to Supernatural and beyond. More tour dates will be announced soon.

Delivered with a level of passion and soul equal to the legendary sonic charge of his guitar, the sound of Carlos Santana is one of the world’s best-known musical signatures. For more than four decades—from Santana’s earliest days as a groundbreaking Afro-Latin-blues-rock fusion outfit in San Francisco—Carlos has been the visionary force behind artistry that transcends musical genres and generational, cultural and geographical boundaries.

For 40 years and as many albums later, Santana has sold more than 100 million records and reached more than 100 million fans at concerts worldwide. To date, Santana has won ten GRAMMY Awards and three Latin GRAMMY Awards. He won a record-tying nine GRAMMYs for a single project for 1999’s Supernatural (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Smooth”) as well as three Latin GRAMMY’s. He has also received the Billboard Century Award (1996), was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1998), received the Billboard Latin Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honor (2009), and was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors Award (2013). Among many other honors, Carlos Santana has been cited by Rolling Stone as #15 on their list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” And, with the 2014 release of Corazón, Santana surpassed the Rolling Stones and is one of only two music acts in Billboard history to score at least one Top Ten album for six consecutive decades from the 1960s on. April 15, 2016 marked the release date of Santana IV, which debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart and marks Santana’s fourteenth Top 10 album. Santana is currently headlining a multi-year residency at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. In the fall of 2014, Carlos Santana released his memoir “The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light.”

Muse is Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme. Their last album, Drones, was released in June of 2015 and debuted at No. 1 in 21 countries around the world including their first No. 1 album in the United States. The album spawned the number one hit “Dead Inside,” and the band went on to win the Grammy Award, their second, for Best Rock Album in February of 2016. Since forming in 1994, Muse have released seven studio albums selling upwards of 18 million albums worldwide and won numerous awards around the world including: two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album; an American Music Award; and the O2 Silver Clef presented by Queen’s Roger Taylor and Brian May. They have won press awards for Best Live Act, Best Album and Best British Band, and they have received an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement.

Thirty Seconds to Mars – comprised of Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic – has sold over five million albums and millions of concert tickets worldwide. The group has received numerous awards, including a dozen MTV awards worldwide, a Billboard Music award, and a Guinness World Record for the Longest Running Tour in history. The band released their critically acclaimed music documentary ARTIFACT on iTunes worldwide where it has been a regular at the top of the charts. It chronicles the band’s legal battles with record label EMI/Capitol/Virgin. They also recently announced their 3rd Annual Camp Mars Festival that takes place every summer in Malibu, CA. Thirty Seconds to Mars are currently working on their highly anticipated 5th studio album to be released later this year.

“Get acquainted with the mysteriously awesome PVRIS before they become the biggest thing in rock. For fans of The Neighbourhood, CHVRCHES, and Paramore, PVRIS are the best thing since sliced bread.” That’s what MTV said about the Boston-based trio of vocalist Lynn Gunn, guitarist Alex Babinski and bassist Brian MacDonald and the band is certainly living up to the hype: over the past few months, they performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” were spotlighted on “Last Call with Carson Daly,” hit the road with Fall Out Boy and Awolnation for a North American arena tour and were featured on the cover of Alternative Press. That followed a year in which they hit No. 1 on Billboard’s “Emerging Artists” and “Trending 140” charts, played to packed-house crowds around the world and racked up over 12 million total YouTube views and 15 million total streams in the US alone (the latest being more than 14.7 million Spotify streams and 3.4 million views for their “You And I” video). The band is led by 21-year-old vocalist Lynn Gunn, who the Huffington Post described as “a force that cannot be denied.” They’re currently putting the touches on a much-anticipated new album, due out later this year.

From busking to selling out concert venues worldwide. Here’s Tash Sultana on World Cafe Next

0

In a very short amount of time, 21-year-old singer-songwriter Tash Sultana has gone from busking in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia, to selling out concert venues worldwide. But the bigger challenge has been extracting herself from addiction and drug-induced psychosis, which threatened her mental well-being and her life. She credits doing only what made her happy for her recovery. That meant it was out of school and onto Melbourne’s sidewalks, where she used a looping pedal to construct her own backing for her powerful songs.

Hear two songs from Sultana’s new EP, Notion.

Hercules & Love Affair Announce New Album And Return With “Controller” Single

0

Hercules & Love Affair return to the fray with “Controller”, a pulsing, propulsive new song that signals the first salvo from their long-awaited new album. Featuring The Horrors’ Faris Badwan on vocals, it takes the Hercules’ disco-house heritage and fuses it with starker post-punk stylings.

“Recently I’ve been aesthetically interested in the raw experimentation of early 80s electronic dance outside the glossier new wave pop music we know from the time,” admits head honcho Andy Butler, “Cabaret Voltaire, lots of noisier older music. It’s funny that I ended up in Belgium, considering all of the music that came from here – Front 242, Telex, and so on.”

“When I became aware of music, aged around 12, I was listening to the Jesus & Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, Ministry, “ he recalls, “That was my formative music, the college album charts, what became alt-rock. I found I could relate to this outsider music, stuff that wasn’t pop- I already had a love for Yazoo and Depeche Mode which got me into synthesizers. It was a rebellious, angst-ridden period and I was an industrial goth kid, stockings and make-up, which then dovetailed into the whole grindcore extreme stuff. But at 15 I heard LFO’s ‘Frequencies’ and was like whoa– I walked away from vocal music initially, walked away from that aggression towards psychedelic utopia and acid house…”

With ‘Controller’ he’s reconnected. He knew he wanted a male voice for the song “a vocalist who flirted with the darkness, someone who had a touch of an Ian Astbury or Andrew Eldritch about them, or even of Ian Curtis.”

In London, working with fashion designer James Long, Andy came across The Horrors’ live version of Frankie Knuckles & Jamie Principle’s seminal Chicago house cut ‘Your Love’. He realized he’d found his voice, a rock artist willing to engage with dance culture’s history.

“Controller” is the result, a contagious song containing a hint of seamy ‘80s electro-pop underbelly, but also recalling edgy early house records by the likes of Lil Louis and Bam Bam. And then there’s the whole sub-dom, master-and-servant thing going on in the lyrics…

“That’s a fair assessment,” Andy laughs, “but actually the new album is a lot about spirituality. Faris was happy to engage with that. He went into the recording booth, would come out with something, and I’d say, “Did you just sing, ‘I love what you’re making me do’?” He’d say, “No, but that sounds cool.” That’s how the song was made, it unfolded out of an unconscious process. It’s about being used by a higher entity but there’s this second layer which is a play on intense sub-dom sexual roleplay!”

As raunchy and contentious as it is catchy, ‘Controller’ is the first single from Hercules’s fourth album on which they consolidate this sonic palette yet further, while never losing sight of their following on the dance floor. Details to be announced soon…..
