Steve Earle To Release New Album “So You Wannabe An Outlaw” On June 16

0

Musician, songwriter, actor and author Steve Earle and his country rock band The Dukes will release So You Wannabe an Outlaw on June 16 on Warner Bros. Records. The album is available for pre-order today via all digital retailers. Those who pre-order will receive an instant download of the album track “Lookin’ For A Woman.”

So You Wannabe an Outlaw, Earle’s first album for Warner Bros. Records since 1997’s El Corazón, explores his country songwriting roots and features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Johnny Bush, and Miranda Lambert.

“There’s nothing ‘retro’ about this record,” Earle says. “I’m just acknowledging where I’m coming from.” So You Wannabe an Outlaw is the first recording he has made in Austin, TX. Earle has lived in New York City for the past decade. “Look, I’m always gonna be a Texan, no matter what I do,” he says. “And I’m always going to be somebody who learned their craft in Nashville. It’s who I am.”

So You Wannabe an Outlaw is an homage to outlaw music and is dedicated to the late Waylon Jennings. “I was out to unapologetically ‘channel’ Waylon as best as I could.” Earle says. “This record was all about me playing’ on the back pick-up of a ’66 Fender Telecaster on an entire record for the first time in my life. The vocal part of it is a little different. I certainly don’t sound like Waylon Jennings. I moved to Nashville in November of 1974, and right after that Willie Nelson’s Red Headed Stranger came out. I was around when Waylon was recording Dreaming My Dreams. Guitar Town (Earle’s 1986 chart-topping, Grammy Award-winning debut album) wound up being kind of my version of those types of songs,” Earle recalls.

Earle is backed on So You Wannabe an Outlaw by his long-time band The Dukes — guitarist Chris Masterson, fiddle player Eleanor Whitmore, bassist Kelly Looney, and new members drummer Brad Pemberton and pedal steel player Ricky Ray Jackson. The album was produced by Richard Bennett and recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin.

A true Renaissance man, Earle has also become a novelist, a film, TV, and stage actor, playwright, author, record producer, and radio host over the course of his 30+ year career. He is currently appearing in the off-Broadway play Samara, for which Earle also wrote the score, that The New York Times called “exquisitely subliminal.” He is also in the process of writing his memoirs for future publication. Tune in to Steve Earle’s weekly radio show Hardcore Troubadour on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country Channel.

This summer, Earle will lead his fourth annual songwriting intensive, Camp Copperhead, in upstate New York from June 26-30, 2017. The all-inclusive, four-day music vacation and fully immersive learning experience will take place at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY, about half an hour west of Woodstock. Primary instructor Earle will be joined this year by special guest instructors Jackie Greene and Dar Williams. Details can be found at http://camp-copperhead.com/.

Canadian Two Time Olympian and 4 Time Pan AM Medalist Inspires New Song, RISE

0

Elyse Saunders’ RISE is inspired by two-time Canadian Olympian, four-time Pan AM Medalist and Canadian leading eventer Jessica Phoenix, from Uxbridge ON. After suffering a heavy fall with her horse while competing cross-country at the Jersey Fresh International Three Day Event in 2015, Jessica underwent emergency surgery and was told that she would not recover in time to defend her Pan AM Gold medal on home ground. Jessica’s spirit and love of the equine sport would be put to the ultimate test!

Unwavering grit was all that Jessica needed to see her through to a full recovery. Returning to the sport she loved in record time, Jessica Phoenix led the Canadian Eventing Team at the Toronto Pan AM Games, winning an Individual Silver, and a Bronze for Team Canada on her mount Pavarotti, an outstanding achievement, given the gravity of her injuries. RISE was born!

“RISE”the debut single from Canadian country artist, Elyse Saunders, is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, and radio stations everywhere here.

Music Streaming is “absolutely vital for indie artists” says leading Canadian manager

0

The global music market achieved a key milestone in 2015 when digital became the primary revenue stream for recorded music, overtaking sales of physical formats for the first time.

Digital revenues now account for 45 per cent of total revenues, compared to 39 per cent for physical sales.

IFPI’s Global Music Report 2016 also reported a 10.2 per cent rise in digital revenues to US$ 6.7 billion, with a 45.2 per cent increase in streaming revenue more than offsetting the decline in downloads and physical formats.

Total industry revenues grew 3.2 per cent to US$ 15.0 billion, leading to the industry’s first significant year-on-year growth in nearly two decades. Digital revenues now account for more than half the recorded music market in 19 markets.

The major labels alone reported revenues of $3.9 billion, it’s still important for the independent labels and artists to fight for their space online, says one leading Canadian music manager. Amir Epstein, LLB, who works with Edwin (I Mother Earth, Crash Karma), Tyler Shaw, The Standstills, Bed Of Stars, and Dylyn, sees a different experience, despite these record-breaking numbers.

“Streaming is not only the future, it’s the present.  As Lyor once said to me, ‘an artist without social media, is an artist that’s dead in the water’.  Well today, an artist that isn’t focusing much of their attention on Spotify, Apple, Google and all the other streaming companies, are as good as dead in the water.  Streaming is everything.  It’s only a matter of time before these companies start releasing music that they themselves are licensing.  This would be the big move.

“Although the biggest artists in music are making the big bucks with streaming royalties, this doesn’t mean smaller bands and independent artists can’t kick butt as well.

“Yes, customers are buying and streaming Drake, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber’s albums, but the other 99.99999% of artists aren’t selling anything.

Epstein does offer hope for independent artists, however. “The reality is that streaming dominates, and so can an independent band from Halifax or Utah.  And just because the biggest names in music are all sitting on top of the castle, while the rest of us are dirty rascals, it doesn’t mean you can’t win as well.  Get involved, post new music, create playlists and work, work, work, work, work.  This is the best time to be a starving artist.  The world is your oyster and you can make success happen without a label, manager, or an agent.  Streaming is more than a listening tool.  It’s a business tool.”
