The Ottawa 2017 Bureau, the National Hockey League, Live Nation Canada and the Ottawa Senators are pleased to announce that the Stanley Cup 125th Anniversary Tribute Concert will feature musical performances by Metric, The Sheepdogs and bilingual artists Bobby Bazini and Kevin Bazinet, who will showcase their talent in both French and English. Liam Maguire, NHL historian, author and radio personality will host the event.

This original concept show, an Ottawa 2017 Signature Event, will take place at Canadian Tire Centre on Friday, March 17, as part of the celebrations in the nation’s capital surrounding the anniversary of hockey’s most treasured trophy: the Stanley Cup.

The show will include tales of Stanley Cup glory by living hockey legends, in addition to rare archival footage of some of hockey’s most historic moments. The Stanley Cup itself will be the guest of honour at this memorable multimedia experience for all ages.

The Most Travelled Musicians Of All Time

Package holiday specialists TravelBird have released the Most Travelled Musicians Ranking, presenting a comprehensive insight into the travel miles of the world’s most admired artists. Aiming to always find new ways to inspire travellers, TravelBird combined music, travel and curiosity within the study of 36 of the world’s favourite artists. The ranking reveals which bands and musicians have the greatest number of travel miles under their belt and who holds the title of the world’s most travelled. In addition to presenting the most travelled artists, TravelBird also calculated how much it would cost an ultimate superfan to have followed each musician throughout their career.

To create the Ranking, TravelBird began with 36 most popular performers, selected from the results of a poll on popular musicians created by TravelBird, both legends and new sensations, from a range of genres. Their total travel distance of their public engagements was then calculated, taking all national, continental and world tours in account, from the beginning of their career. This includes arena shows, festival appearances, and road trips but excludes private engagements. Using this information, TravelBird calculated exactly how many times around the world each artist could have travelled, as well as how many times they could have flown to the moon. When possible, ground miles were used, and the figures reflect city-to-city rather than venue-to-venue distances. Interestingly, TravelBird found that the years an artist has performed does not always mean they have travelled further, with the top two farthest-travelling performers having been active since the 90s, beating the likes of those who have been performing since the 60s, 70s or 80s.

True North Records Welcomes Leeroy Stagger To Roster, Announces “Love Verses” Album Out April 7

It’s been said before that love is a battlefield, and on his latest album Love Versus (out April 7, 2017 through True North Records), Leeroy Stagger comes well armed. The eleventh studio release by the Western Canadian native is also a milestone, marking the first recording made at Stagger’s home studio in southern Alberta. But more significantly, his ever-evolving fusion of roots, rock and pop reaches new heights on Love Versus, resulting in 10 tracks that confirm his status as one of Canada’s best contemporary singer/songwriters.

“Leeroy is one of the most insightful songwriters I have ever come across. He has a gift for distilling complex images, commentary and concepts into brilliantly succinct lyrical one liners,” says Geoff Kulawick, President, True North Records.

It’s not that Stagger needed much more validation; after working with acclaimed producers Russell Broom (Sam Roberts) and Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) on his previous two albums, Stagger teamed up with Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Black Mountain, Yukon Blonde) to produce Love Versus, and put together a dream band for the project. Longtime friend and collaborator Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat, The Mounties) remixed and ‘reimagined’, as Stagger would say, the title song and single in Vancouver.

The cornerstone was Pete Thomas, longtime drummer for Elvis Costello, who came up from L.A. for the sessions, joining guitarist Paul Rigby (Neko Case), keyboardist Geoff Hilhorst (The Deep Dark Woods), and Stagger’s longtime bassist Tyson Maiko. Over the course of three weeks, they christened Stagger’s new studio, and in the process changed his perspective on his art.

What is most striking about Love Versus overall is the wisdom at the foundation of each track, and indeed, for anyone who has followed Stagger’s career to this point, it should be apparent that this is the album he’s been destined to make. Since first making his mark on the Canadian independent music scene at the turn of this century, Leeroy Stagger has toured the world, both on his own and with the likes of Steve Earle, Pixies, Modest Mouse and Evan Dando. After almost two decades of consistent output, Stagger certainly does have the respect of both his peers and Canada’s music industry tastemakers. However, the addition of Love Versus to his (ahem) staggering body of work opens a new chapter, promising to reach many more ears.

Stagger has also announced a 10-date Western Canadian tour, kicking off March 17 at Panorama, BC and ending in Vancouver on April 22. Dates are below.

Fans of retro pop sounds with a cheeky modern twist are in for the experience of a lifetime this summer as Postmodern Jukebox and Straight No Chaser join forces for a co-headlining tour of the United States. Guns N’ Roses has been heralded as the greatest rock n roll band on the planet. During the late 80’s and 90’s the hedonistic rock gods Axl, Slash, Izzy, Steven and Duff scored sold out stadium concerts on the way to multi-platinum success. During it all, original drummer Steven Adler stole hearts and headlines with his insane antics. But Steven was soon crippled by a tragic heroin addiction that led to him to being kicked out of the band he helped found. At the center of this maelstrom stood Steven’s mother, Deanna Adler, the GNR-proclaimed “first fan” of the group. Deanna was there at the beginning in 1983, when school chums Steven and Slash were building their street cred on the Sunset Strip. In honest, direct prose, Deanna gives an unflinching account of her son Steven’s drug fueled ascent to becoming the co-founder of Guns N’ Roses, and his subsequent fall to drugs and alcohol in the book “Sweet Child of Mine: How I Lost My Son to Guns N’ Roses.” In one of the most brutally raw, revealing books written on substance abuse, Deanna delivers a powerful, inspirational message of hope to anyone dealing with opioid addition.

In addition to Deanna’s incredible story of a mother’s devotion to her infamously self-destructive son, “Sweet Child of Mine” exposes the growing widespread abuse of prescription drugs, a dangerous national epidemic. Readers will discover that Dr. Howard Kornfeld, Steven’s Opioid Rehab doctor in 1995, prescribed dozens of drugs, including anti-anxiety, and sleeping and pain pills that totaled over $2,000.00 a month. Deanna confronts Dr. Kornfeld, the pharmacist, and Big Pharma but is politely stonewalled. She shows us the doctor’s prescription print-out as evidence of the staggering number of drugs prescribed to Steven. The final shock is when we discover that Dr. Kornfeld is the same doctor who is brought in, over 20 years later, by music legend Prince at the time of his passing.

Through over 25 failed rehab attempts, multiple suicide attempts, two heart attacks, and a debilitating stroke, Deanna refused to give up on Steven. Today Steven is clean and sober, back on the road and triumphantly touring with Slash, Duff, and Axl on the newly reunited Guns N’ Roses tour. “Sweet Child of Mine’s” message is simple and clear: one can despair but never lose hope, and never quit. Deanna believes the best is always yet to come and for readers, the inspirational rewards are immediate, and real.

Pink Floyd will release a series of book-bound individual collections of the band’s seminal music from 1965-1972 on March, 24, 2017. The 6 individual collections were first released as part of ‘The Early Years 1965-1972’ box set.

Whether a fan of the early Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, or to the final moments before ‘The Dark Side of The Moon’, there is something for everyone in these volumes for fans and newcomers alike. The stand-alone packages were originally released exclusively as the full ‘Early Years: 1965-1972′ box set that was reviewed as one of the best box sets of 2016 but are now available as separate volumes broken down by years 1965-1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and finally 1972. Outtakes and demos from the band’s early albums including ‘The Piper at the Gates of Dawn’, ‘A Saucerful Of Secrets’, ‘Meddle’ and  ‘Atom Heart Mother’ are included in these packages.

In 1969 Pink Floyd unveiled their 2-part conceptual live production of ‘The Man’ and ‘The Journey’, covering a 24-hour period of dreaming, waking and other activities. Never released in that form, however some of the songs were used on the ‘More’ soundtrack and the ‘Ummagumma’ album. This volume refers back to ‘The Man’ and ‘The Journey’ tour with live performances in Amsterdam and for the BBC in London, but also includes the bonus tracks from the ‘More’ soundtrack that were used in the film but not on record, plus non-album tracks like the early version of Embryo from the Harvest sampler ‘Picnic’.

At the end of 1969 and in the early part of 1970, Pink Floyd recorded and mixed their contribution to Michelangelo Antonioni’s alternative view of US society, ‘Zabriskie Point’. 3 songs were released on the soundtrack album, and a further 4 in the expanded CD edition in 1997. Never released on one Pink Floyd disc, this volume compiles remixed and updated versions of the ‘Zabriskie Point’ audio material.

In the same year, Pink Floyd scored their first UK Number One album with ‘Atom Heart Mother’, a collaboration with Ron Geesin, and the audio includes the first performance for the BBC, featuring an orchestra and choir, as well as, on DVD, the original Quad mix.

In 1971 Pink Floyd recorded the ‘Meddle’ album, containing the LP side-long ‘Echoes’, regarded by many as laying the groundwork for ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’, and, as such, is an important part of the Pink Floyd canon.

This package includes part of the original demos, when the project gestated from ‘Nothing’ to ‘Return Of The Son Of Nothing’, as well as a contemporary BBC session recording.

In 1972 Pink Floyd travelled to Hérouville, north of Paris, to record at Strawberry Studios there, based in the town’s Chateau. In a remarkable two weeks, they wrote and recorded one of their most cohesive albums, ‘Obscured By Clouds’, the soundtrack to Barbet Schroeder’s ‘La Vallée’.

Additionally, 1972 saw the release of ‘Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii’, a film of the band performing without an audience in the historic Roman amphitheatre of Pompeii, directed by Adrian Maben. Belle and Sebastian are coming back to North America

Since being launched on the River Clyde in Glasgow in 1996 the good ship Belle And Sebastian has sailed far and wide on the oceans of international indie‐pop, stockpiling a treasure trove of gold and silver records, a loyal legion of fans and critical kudos by the barrel‐load.

The current line‐up has been in place for more than 10 years, selling over 3 million albums, releasing a dozen singles and playing countless sold‐out concerts around the world. During this period the band also moved from their original label for the UK and Europe, Jeepster ‐ through which they released five studio albums ‐ to Rough Trade.

Belle and Sebastian are coming back to North America. Today, they revealed a brief trek that will be taking place over the summer. They announced it on their website, saying that they’re “bringing our Scottish selves and songs across the pond.”

The tour announcement’s press release notes that they’re at work on new music, which is due sometime this year via Matador.

The band wanted to give their biggest fans the first glimpse into the new songs and creative vision from their highly-anticipated third studio album due for release later this year. It will also feature a pop-up shop containing exclusive collectors-edition pieces of merchandise designed by the band.

“My Bad Imagination is an album with a ton of layers and surprises for our fans,” said Kimberly Perry. “Our fans have stuck by us over the past year while we’ve been quietly creating our new music, and now we want to get close to them as as we can to start listening and moving to these new sounds together.”

“We want our fans to see and feel as much as they hear My Bad Imagination, so we’ve created this series of pop up shows in some of our favorite small rooms around the country to give them the first look at the designs and music that have led us to this moment of growth for our band,” adds Reid Perry

“We’ll show it to the rest of the world next,” said Neil Perry. “But this moment is about the Family coming together to celebrate a birthday, a new day, the future.”

A presale for tickets for My Bad Imagination Pop Up Shows will launch this Thursday, February 16th at 10AM local time for 24 hours. Presale information can be found by visiting here. The public ticket on sale will begin Friday, February 17th at 10AM local time.

The Band Perry recently released “Stay In The Dark,” the first single from My Bad Imagination. They performed it for the first time live on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with special guest Questlove of The Roots on drums. The trio performed in almost complete darkness with dancers lighting them up with handheld spotlights. The remarkable performance can be viewed HERE.

CMW Announces Keynote Interview with John Giddings

John Giddings took the classic route into live music and along the way became one of the biggest and best known agents and promoters in the world. Responsible for many of the most high profile tours of recent years including The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Genesis, Celine Dion, Iggy Pop and David Bowie, John also revived the Isle of Wight Festival, the Woodstock of Europe.

John graduated from Exeter Uni in the 70s, having learned the basics of booking bands as a social secretary, before becoming an agent at MAM. He was in the right place at exactly the right time, as a new wave of fantastic live bands appeared in the form of punk rock.

In no time, Giddings was representing The Adverts and X-Ray Spex before moving onto The Boomtown Rats, The Ramones and Iggy Pop. In the early 80s he formed TBA International and worked with Paul Young, Alison Moyet, Big Country, Howard Jones, Tears for Fears and Duran Duran. In 1987, Giddings literally went solo – forming the Solo Agency Group. His ascent from massively respected British music agent to global touring legend was meteoric. Soon, he was a key player in the world of global stadium tours. The Isle of Wight Festival however is something else, a personal crusade.

Leave it to Marvel to not only make you want to wait until the very end for a teaser clip of the next chapter to be released, but now the company released a clip from part two of their funny “Team Thor” series that takes a look at how Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his roommate Darryl’s rent situation is currently going. The full short film is available to check out on the Digital HD release of Doctor Strange, which came out today. The first “Team Thor” short was featured as part of the Digital HD, DVD, and Blu-ray release of Captain America: Civil War.
