Rodriguez Announces Canadian Tour

0

Rodriguez, the legendary singer-songwriter known only by his surname, is a self-taught guitarist. He began performing in bars and clubs around the city of Detroit in the 1960s, as the city suffered postindustrial urban decay. It was there that he recorded two studio albums, Cold Fact in 1969 and Coming from Reality in 1971 released on Sussex records. These recordings went unnoticed in the U.S. and Rodriguez eventually turned his efforts elsewhere, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Wayne State University, running for political office and working construction and factory jobs to support
his family.

In the mid-1970s, his music gained airplay in Australia and New Zealand. He has since toured there several times, to play festivals, arenas & theaters. He released “Rodriguez Rocks – Live In Australia “ in 2016 on Light in the Attic Records and has completed a multi-city tour of Australia in November/December of 2016.

In the late 1990s, South African fans finally sought him out, leading to the unanticipated renaissance of his music career. Their story is told in the 2012 Oscar award-winning documentary, Searching for Sugar Man, directed by Malik Bendjelloul, which has given Rodriguez a new measure of fame in the U.S. with his music and story now reaching audiences worldwide. The film has been aired multiple times on PBS and public TV worldwide and is available on DVD and streaming TV.

Rodriguez was unaware that he had reached legendary folk-rocksuper stardom status in South Africa, where mistaken rumors circulated that he had perished. As it turns out, South African anti-Apartheid activists and musicians alike were inspired by his counterculture lyrics. At the beginning of 2016 he went on a multi-city tour of South Africa, often playing multiple nights in arenas.

Rodriguez now tours extensively in South Africa, Australia, Europe, Canadaand the U.S., where he takes thoughtful appreciation in greeting longtime fans, and a new generation of listeners who find common ground in his music. His albums, Cold Fact and Coming from Reality have been re-released on Light in the Attic Records and the Searching for Sugar Man soundtrack is available on Sony Legacy. International media attention, awareness and accolades have since been bestowed upon both the documentary – Searching for Sugar Man and Rodriguez’s music.

He has perhaps one of the most unique true music business stories of fleeting fame finally realized.

Rodriguez is enjoying the collective heartfelt dream of a musician, beating the odds and finding a place in music history. With a music career that has withstood the test of time; the story of Rodriguez is one of sweet success.

ALG will work in tandem with entertainment estate attorney Ken Abdo of Fox Rothschild LLP to preserve Mr. Haley’s legacy and perpetuate awareness of his music catalog and life story.

ALG recently brokered a deal with producers Scott Mednick (U2 3D, Superman Returns, 300) and Skyler Mednick to develop a feature film surrounding the life and career of Mr. Haley, with an authorized biography about the late rocker being penned by published scholar David Deacon-Joyner.

Born William John Clifton Haley, Haley was a member of several groups including The Downhomers, Bill Haley and The Four Aces of Swing, and Bill Haley and the Saddlemen, but it was with Bill Haley and His Comets that Haley changed music history. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, and “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock” was inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2018.

CP Holiday Train completes 20th journey across North America, raises more than $1.3 million and collects 200,000 pounds of food

The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train has completed its 20th festive journey and has given communities across North America reason to celebrate in support of the important work of local food banks. While final numbers are still being calculated, the program is on track to raise more than C$1.3 million and collect over 200,000 pounds of food for local food banks and food shelves.

The Holiday Train has now raised more than C$15.8 million and collected 4.5 million pounds of food since its inaugural journey back in 1999.

The 2018 CP Holiday Train featured a highly acclaimed musical lineup. The U.S. train kicked off with the Juno Award winning Sam Roberts Band and JoJo Mason performing at stops in Quebec, New York and Ontario. Hit makers The Trews and Willy Porter hopped on board to complete the U.S.-bound train’s voyage. On board the Canadian train, recent Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Terri Clark was joined by Kelly Prescott and Sierra Noble as they entertained communities from Montreal to Calgary, where the Sam Roberts Band replaced Clark to finish the tour to the west coast.

In addition to the local food banks that benefit from the Holiday Train, CP has been an active partner of Food Banks Canada since 1997, before the CP Holiday Train began. Each year, CP provides Food Banks Canada $250,000 worth of in-kind transportation services to support its National Food Sharing Service program. This year, with the donation of a CP TempPro refrigerated storage and transport system, Food Banks Canada was able to move a million pounds of food that included fresh, frozen and perishable items by rail.

The Capture the Spirit photo contest received over a thousand great entries. It closed today and six winners will each be awarded a CP prize pack, including a ride on the 2019 CP Holiday Train and a $1,000 donation to a local food bank.
