On Wednesday, September 14, Jimmy Page will host an exclusive Led Zeppelin listening event at Olympic Studios in London featuring the worldwide debut of several previously unreleased tracks from THE COMPLETE BBC SESSIONS, just days prior to the set’s official release on September 16. The listening event, moderated by legendary BBC DJ Johnnie Walker, will be held before an intimate audience and streamed on Facebook Live starting at 7:30PM GMT (2:30pm ET), followed by a with conversation with Page and Walker. The evening will conclude with the world premiere of a new video of “What Is And What Should Never Be” from THE COMPLETE BBC SESSIONS. Directed by Ariel Costa, the monochromatic video features a melding of classic Led Zeppelin live performance video with innovative animation.

Nearly 20 years ago, Led Zeppelin introduced BBC Sessions, an acclaimed two-disc set of live recordings selected from the band’s appearances on BBC radio between 1969 and 1971. The band will now unveil THE COMPLETE BBC SESSIONS, an updated version of the collection which has been newly remastered with supervision by Jimmy Page and expanded with eight unreleased BBC recordings, including three rescued from a previously “lost” session from 1969.

Music streaming now included in Canada’s historic Gold/Platinum certification program

0

With the introduction of a new Single Award, Music Canada’s Gold/Platinum certification and awards program will now include streams towards digital track certifications. Over 50 new Single certifications were revealed today, with 10 artists receiving their first Canadian certifications.

“Today’s announcement signifies a pivotal moment in Canada’s evolving digital music marketplace,” says Graham Henderson, President & CEO of Music Canada. “By accepting on-demand streams for track certifications, Music Canada can continue to acknowledge the success of Canadian and international artists, as well as the subscription-based streaming platforms currently thriving in our market. The new Single Award helps maintain the integrity of our Gold/Platinum program, which has historically recognized the active choice consumers make when building their personal music libraries.”

The new Single Award will combine on-demand audio streams from subscription services with digital download and CD single sales. Streams can be used toward certification using a conversion formula of 150 streams equaling 1 unit towards certification. This 150:1 ratio is consistent with other major global counterparts. Streaming data from YouTube/VEVO videos will not be accepted towards certification upon launch.

0

The 30th Anniversary LP edition of Beastie Boys’ debut album Licensed To Ill will be released on October 14, 2016. This special reissue was cut from the original production masters and is presented on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl.

Produced by Rick Rubin and Beastie Boys, Licensed To Ill was originally released November 15, 1986–making the B Boys the fifth artist to release a full length album on the original Def Jam label after LL Cool J, Slayer, Tashan and Oran “Juice” Jones.

“The Breakthrough of License To Ill in 1986 paved the road legitimizing Rap to its USA masses, and set the barometer worldwide on the genre album format. This record also expanded HipHop diversity allowing Public Enemy’s ‘Takes A Nation’ to be its antithesis.” — Chuck D, Public Enemy

Licensed To Ill continues to loom large on the all-time greatest albums lists of Rolling Stone, Q, Pitchfork, NME and various other forums for people to argue in comments sections. Virtually every track on the album was a hit single or fan favorite, including “Hold It Now, Hit It,” “The New Style,” “Paul Revere,” “Brass Monkey,” “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party),” “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” and more.

Licensed To Ill was the first hip hop album ever to top the Billboard 200 and has been certified RIAA Diamond in the U.S. in 2015 for more than 10 million album sales.
