The Hubert Humphrey presidential campaign of 1968 began when Vice President of the United States Hubert Humphrey of Minnesota decided to seek the Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States following the announcement by President Lyndon B. Johnson that he would not seek the party’s nomination.
On the eve of the election, Humphrey and his rival Richard Nixon each held four-hour televised forums from Los Angeles on rival television networks. Humphrey’s on ABC-TV at 8:30pm EST, Nixon’s on NBC-TV at 9pm EST. Humphrey fielded questions from a live studio audience and a phone bank of celebrities including Frank Sinatra. The Nixon telecast featured no interaction with anyone other than sports personally Bud Wilkinson who read queries from index cards beside rows of volunteers taking calls.
Humphrey was defeated by Nixon 301 to 191 in the electoral college. Although he lost, he would forever know that Frank stood by him.

That Time Johnny Cash Did A TV Commercial For Lionel Trains In The 1970s
One of the highly desirable memorabilia from Johnny Cash is the “Ridin’ The Rails” toy train box car (Model number 6-9780) produced by Lionel Trains in 1976 to commemorate the TV special starring Johnny Cash. A limited number of these 11″ long cars were produced and the car was fully functional and could be used with any Lionel electric train set of the same scale. It was selling for $225 at the Johnny Cash General Store, but don’t want one that badly – it was sold out years ago. John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd And Brian Wilson Go Surfing In 1976
From the NBC television special It’s OK, produced by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels during the break between SNL‘s first and second seasons. The one-hour special aired to promote the Beach Boys’ 15th anniversary and their latest release, 15 Big Ones. Wilson had just rejoined the group, and the special was part of the “Brian’s Back” publicity campaign.
In this sketch, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd play a pair of California Highway Patrol officers who burst into the bedroom of Wilson’s home and force the musician who was likely in a sandbox earlier to get up and go surfing. “Brian,” says Aykroyd, “we have a citation here for you sir under Section 936A of the California Catch a Wave Statute. Brian, you’re in violation of Paragraph 12: failing to surf, neglecting to use a state beach for surfing purposes, and otherwise avoiding surfboards, surfing and surf.”

Facebook: more monthly users are becoming daily users
We’ve been hearing variations of the same story for years: “Facebook is no longer cool”, “people are leaving Facebook behind”, “teenagers are over Facebook” etc.
And yet, the world’s largest social network continues to grow. According to its latest earnings release, Facebook currently has 1.71 billion monthly active users. That is nearly one quarter of the world population and roughly 50 percent of all internet users across the globe.
And even the argument that people are using Facebook less frequently than they used to, doesn’t hold up. In fact, the proportion of Facebook’s users who log on every single day has risen from 55 percent in 2011 to 66 percent in the latest quarter. This probably has to do with Facebook’s transition to become a mobile-first platform. Having a smartphone makes it a lot more convenient to check Facebook every once in a while. As of last quarter, nearly a billion of Facebook’s users were active exclusively on mobile devices.
