Gord Downie announced as the 2019 Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award Recipient

0

Canadian Music Week is pleased to announce Gord Downie as the 2019 recipient of the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award. Outside of his career as a musician, poet and front-man for The Tragically Hip, Gord committed his time to causes close to his heart. He dedicated the last few years of his life educating the country on its past, moving toward reconciliation, and also spent many years working with the Lake Ontario Waterkeepers among other organizations. Alongside his brothers in The Hip, Gord and the band supported their hometown community of Kingston during their career, giving back to local organizations with proceeds from their Kingston shows.

“Gord Downie was an inspiration to all Canadians, and his life’s work represented the embodiment of all that the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award celebrates. His legacy continues to resonate through his music and lyrics and, most importantly, through the growth and enterprise of The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund,” said Gary Slaight, CEO and President of Slaight Communications/Slaight Family Foundation.

Gord was inspired by Chanie Wenjack’s story, and with his brothers started the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund. With Gord’s call to action to build a better Canada, DWF has worked to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians. Representatives from the Downie family will receive the award at the annual Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards Gala Dinner at Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

The Wenjack and Downie families officially founded The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund in 2016 to support reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. DWF operated as a fund through the Toronto Foundation and Tides Canada until receiving charitable status in March 2018.

Since it’s inception DWF has developed programs and initiatives based on their three guiding pillars of awareness, education and action which contribute to a national movement where all Canadians are participating in reconciliation. They achieve this through their Legacy Schools program, Legacy Spaces program and Secret Path Week.

The DWF Legacy Schools Program launched September 2018 with a tremendous response from schools, educators, and students across Canada. The DWF Legacy Schools has 477 Legacy Schools registered, 880 Legacy School toolkits distributed to every Provinces & Territory, and 1,977 participating classrooms reaching over 59,000 students nation-wide.

Gord also spent time on the board for Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, an organization that is working to restore our waterways to ensure they are Swimmable, Drinkable and Fishable today and for future generations.

Having an early connection to water, Gord was a passionate ambassador for Waterkeeper. He worked closely with LOW to stop Lafarge from burning tires and waste materials near the town of Bath, and created the Heart Of A Lake events to bring environmental awareness to local communities through art.

Gord and The Hip worked with many charitable organizations throughout their career. Giving back to their local community of Kingston was always a top priority for the band, organizing events for local causes like Almost Home, Camp Trillium, The Community Foundation of Greater Kingston, and the benefit for their friend and radio host Glenn Williams. The band were always willing to provide their time to meaningful causes. They headlined the first War Child event in Winnipeg, which was the largest outdoor benefit concert in Canada at the time, raising national awareness and funds for the charity.

The Black Keys Return With 9th Studio Album, “let’s Rock,” On June 28

0

The Black Keys’ ninth studio album, “Let’s Rock,” will be released June 28, 2019 via Easy Eye Sound/Nonesuch Records. The long-awaited album, their first in five years, is a return to the straightforward rock of the singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney’s early days as a band. Auerbach says, “When we’re together we are The Black Keys, that’s where that real magic is, and always has been since we were sixteen.” The second song from the record, “Eagle Birds,” debuts today; it follows the previously released single “Lo/Hi.” The Black Keys’ thirty-one city North American tour begins September 23.

“Let’s Rock” was written, tracked live, and produced by Auerbach and Carney at Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville and features backing vocals from Leisa Hans and Ashley Wilcoxson. “The record is like a homage to electric guitar,” says Carney. “We took a simple approach and trimmed all the fat like we used to.”

The “Let’s Rock” Tour will hit cities including Chicago, Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, and Austin (full dates below). Special guests Modest Mouse will provide support on all dates, and Shannon & The Clams, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, *repeat repeat, and Jessy Wilson will each open select shows on the tour. The band also headlines 2019’s Life Is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas on Saturday, September 21. Tickets for all dates are on sale here.

Rolling Stone named “Lo/Hi” a “Song You Need to Know” and said, “the Keys have officially returned, louder than ever” and the New York Times calls the song “the kind of garage-boogie stomp that the band never left behind.”

Formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001, The Black Keys have released eight studio albums: their debut The Big Come Up (2002), followed by Thickfreakness (2003) and Rubber Factory (2004), along with their releases on Nonesuch Records, Magic Potion (2006), Attack & Release (2008), Brothers (2010), El Camino (2011), and, most recently, Turn Blue (2014). The band has won six Grammy Awards and headlined festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Governors Ball.

Since their last album together, both Auerbach and Carney have been creative forces behind a number of wide-ranging artists.

Dan Auerbach formed the Easy Eye Sound record label, named after his Nashville studio, in 2017, with the release of his second solo album, Waiting on a Song. Since its launch, Easy Eye Sound has become home to a wide range of artists including Yola, Shannon & The Clams, Dee White, Shannon Shaw, Sonny Smith, Robert Finley, and The Gibson Brothers; it also has released the posthumous album by Leo Bud Welch as well as previously unreleased material by Link Wray.

Patrick Carney has produced and recorded new music with artists such as Calvin Johnson, Michelle Branch, Damns of the West, Tobias Jesso, Jr., Jessy Wilson, Tennis, Repeat Repeat, Wild Belle, Sad Planets, Turbo Fruits, and more. He also created the theme music for the Netflix TV show BoJack Horseman with his late uncle, Ralph Carney.

David Bowie ‘MERCURY DEMOS’ Collection Announced Featuring Nine Unreleased Songs

0

As part of the ongoing celebrations marking 50 years since David Bowie’s first hit, Space Oddity, and following the recent Spying Through A Keyhole and Clareville Grove Demos collections, Parlophone is releasing a further set of recordings known as The ‘Mercury’ Demos.

The ‘Mercury’ Demos are 10 early Bowie recordings captured live in one take to a Revox reel to reel tape machine in David’s flat in spring 1969, with accompaniment from John ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson on guitar and vocals.

The version of ‘Space Oddity’ from the Demos, originally released with edits on the Sound & Vision boxset, is presented here in its true context for the first time. The other nine recordings on the album are all previously unreleased. In addition to Bowie originals, the session also includes the Roger Bunn composition Life Is A Circus (which features as an earlier demo version on the Clareville Grove Demos set) and the Lesley Duncan composition, Love Song, later recorded by Elton John for his Tumbleweed Connection album. David’s own Conversation Piece is announced as ‘a new song’ and Janine features a short nineteen second section sung to the melody of The Beatles’ Hey Jude.

The session was a basic recording of the ‘Bowie & Hutch’ duo’s set list at the time and was committed to tape at the request of Mercury Records A&R man Calvin Mark Lee who wanted the tracks to send them to his boss Bob Reno. Both Calvin and Bob are referenced during the 41-minute recording, and the demos were key in securing David his recording deal with Mercury Records.

The ‘Mercury’ Demos set will come in a replica of the original tape box and will feature 1 vinyl LP, a print, two photo contact sheets and sleeve notes by Mark Adams. The labels of the LP feature the same EMIDISC acetate styling as Spying Through A Keyhole and Clareville Grove Demos with the song titles in David’s own handwriting.

What must be done to improve writing skills

0

Found some difficulties in improving your writing? Improving writing is a time-consuming process and there are no shortcuts. The most practical method is to survive in practice and repeat revisions, while taking the experience of others. Here are some useful tips. Happy reading!

First, insist on writing and writing every day.

Spend a fixed time every day to practice writing. Initially it may feel uncomfortable, but after a month or two it will slowly become a habit. After you develop this good habit, look back a few months later and you will find that your writing level has changed significantly. You may not have natural writing skills but if you practice constantly, your abilities will increase gradually. Just try and you’ll find your way.

Second, complete the paragraph and then modify it.

Some people don’t believe in writing, and they always feel that their words aren’t good enough or that the grammar isn’t perfect. Every time you write a few words or one or two sentences, you can delete the rewrite. In this way, you will not only feel tired but also interfere with the original writing idea. Therefore, once you have an idea, record it in one step, at least after completing a related paragraph or paragraph, and then modify it. You don’t have to pursue perfection from the start.

Third, read and modify.

Sometimes it’s hard to find errors after reading the first draft for one or two times. At this time, you might want to read the changes aloud, which might make it easier to hear a few questions. For example: choice of several words, syntax, tone and so on. Don’t hesitate if you have found an idea to improve the quality of your writing. Remember, fear often blocks your creativity or your talent. Just do it!

Fourth, focus.

After you start writing today, please focus on your writing during this time and try not to be bothered by other people or other things. By focusing your attention, you can get rid of external disturbances that can pay for everything you have planned. If noise is what you experience, a quality headset can help you find focus.

Fifth, get help.

Sometimes when you find that you can’t write, you can tell your friends or colleagues about it. Sometimes one or two other people’s words can get you out of the forest. If you can’t find a friend who is skilled enough to help you, the online help option should not be ignored. You can ask for help from professionals by accessing https://writingcheap.com/paper-writing.html. Online help is a present option that greatly helps students when they have great difficulties while they do not have enough time to deal with it.

Sixth, pay attention to the break on time.

In the process of practicing writing, if you feel your brain is jammed, it’s better not to force yourself to keep writing. Fatigue with the brain will definitely not have a good effect. Getting the right rest or doing aerobic exercise will help the brain to recover.

Writing may be really difficult, and there are different ways for everyone. Some people carry a lot of vocabulary and essays, but when they mention the pen, they are in vain. Some people have done a lot of artificial writing, but it doesn’t have much effect. So, you can only find the most suitable for you in continuous training. Hopefully this article can help you to write better. Hopefully this article is useful. Thank you for reading!

How do you score high in an American university paper?

0

Writing thesis and academic writing is homework that cannot be avoided at North American universities. Here we introduce, to write a US university paper, what are the precautions and papers to get high score skills. In this article, we focus on the following points, how to write a high-score American university paper:

Rhetorical strategy (also known as logic or persuasion)

“Rhetoric” has a lot of meaning, but it’s all about successfully connecting and persuading the audience. For students, the audience is usually a professor or other teacher. In terms of rhetorical strategies, we must pay attention to:

– Summarize everything

After the topic is taken, you will summarize all the things you will discuss in the following paragraph in the first paragraph. At the beginning of each of the following paragraphs, the first sentence is used to summarize what is discussed in this paragraph. This is the topic sentence or center of each paragraph.

– Enrich your vocabulary

Use more complex words to improve your writing. You can use a dictionary to find synonyms or synonyms for vocabulary known to enrich your vocabulary. When you find a new word, you should look for a few examples to understand how the word is used in different contexts and whether it is appropriate to use it in the context of your writing. If you have difficulty doing the above, then you can search for words on Google and learn about the use of common words. If you encounter difficulties in this section, accessing https://writemyessayonline.com/do-my-assignment.html is an option that should be considered.

– Keep your language neutral

During the learning process, you usually find topics that motivate you or make you irritated. But keep in mind here, no matter how enthusiastic you are about this topic, readers of academic writing prefer clear, accurate, and neutral descriptions of emotional, or pedagogical, language. The following two examples are compared:

Not recommended: Education is the single most important factor in career success.

Recommendation: Education is one of the important factors in career success.

Not recommended: New Horizons is the fastest spacecraft ever made.

Recommended: In 2007, New Horizons was the fastest spacecraft ever made.

Recommended: New Horizons travels at 16.21 kilometers per second.

Find opportunities to be critical

Usually the teacher wants to see their students able to think and write critically. Criticism here does not mean criticism, but questions and questions. In other words, don’t understand and accept things with what you see on the surface. Critical writing means you have to carefully examine a topic and ask questions about its various aspects and listen to various perspectives. In addition, criticality also means that you can’t believe anything because of someone’s status. Even if the achievements of an author that you find during the research process are extraordinary, that does not mean that he is right. The best way to treat them like some unnamed writers.

Personal expression

The first year of assignment in college is about personal expression, that is, writing in accordance with your own memories, impressions, or emotions. And when you move to a higher class, the writing assignments you meet often require research based information.

Writing based on research has many advantages. Academic writing readers are more confident in research-based writing because the information used will likely be validated before the article is published, and if readers have questions about that information, they can find the original source of information and confirm it themselves. Likewise, readers are more likely to believe in opinions supported by research information, not just the author’s own feelings. In advanced academic writing, if your writing is only based on things that are not clear, it is considered unreliable and tends to receive a low score.

Bob Dylan – The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings is available for pre-order now in digital, and CD formats: https://bobdylan.lnk.to/rollthunder-boxsetPR

Launched in the fall of 1975, Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue flouted the touring conventions of the time by featuring an eclectic cast of characters and playing small and unusual venues with little advance notice. The shows would often stretch to more than four hours long, generating some of the artist’s most dramatic and dynamic on-stage performances ever. Dylan debuted the new songs he’d written for his forthcoming Desire album (which became one of the most acclaimed and popular in his canon) with a fire and intensity that Dylan had reached ten years earlier with his incendiary tours with musicians who became The Band. He also took wild, interpretative rides through his back catalog and broke out some unexpected covers.

Dylan gathered amazing friends and collaborators for his ensemble – dubbed Guam for the tour – that included T Bone Burnett, Mick RonsonJoan Baez,  Ramblin’ Jack ElliottBobby NeuwirthScarlett RiveraRonee BlakleySteven SolesDavid MansfieldRob StonerHowie Wyeth and Luther Rix. Poet Allen Ginsberg and Joni Mitchell also brought their talents to the show’s encores. Dylan, the consummate band leader, managed to take these musicians from various backgrounds and sensibilities and mold them into a tight musical unit on stage.

Bob Dylan – The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings serves as a companion piece to the new film, “Rolling Thunder Revue – A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese,” premiering on Netflix on June 12. Every one of Bob Dylan’s performances in the movie can be found in this boxed set.
