Facebook has started to sell concert tickets

0

The company just announced that it is debuting a new “Buy Tickets” button on its event pages, allowing users to quickly snag tickets to events, which can be claimed at Will Call windows. Facebook launched the service today, but it is still in pilot mode. The social media giant is working with a small group of artists, promoters, and venues in the Bay Area in this early phase, but it has plans to expand.

According to BuzzFeed, Facebook will not be taking a slice of the ticket prices. In fact, the entire fulfillment process will be handed off to third parties. Facebook has simply created an interface for selling the tickets and will send a confirmation email to the address the user has registered with Facebook.

Here Are Your Grammy Award Nominations

0

The Recording Academy announced nominations for the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards in all 83 categories this morning. Reflecting a diverse blend of talented music makers, this year’s nominees were selected from more than 21,000 submissions entered. As the only peer-based music award, the GRAMMY Awards are voted on by The Academy’s membership body of creators across all disciplines of music, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, and engineers. Final-round GRAMMYballots will be mailed Dec. 16 and the preeminent award for excellence in music will be presented Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, live from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 8 – 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

This year, Kendrick Lamar leads nominations with 11, followed by Taylor Swift and The Weeknd, who each earn seven. Additionally, music producer/songwriter Max Martin receives six nominations and mastering engineer Tom Coyne, rapper Drake, and engineers/mixers Serban Ghenea and John Hanes each earn five nominations.

“The diversity in the creative community is what makes music a universal language, and it’s gratifying to see the vibrancy of today’s artistic landscape reflected in this year’s nominations — a testament to The Academy’s voting members,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. “Artists are pushing boundaries in exciting ways, making it an exceptionally strong year for music.”

The eclectic nature of this year’s nominations is perhaps best exemplified in the Album Of The Year category, where nominees range from the alternative and soulful rock of Alabama Shakes to Lamar’s thought-provoking jazz-infused rap, the classic country sounds of Chris Stapleton, the pop emergence of Swift, and the genre-bending R&B style of The Weeknd.

Following is a sampling of nominations from the GRAMMY Awards’ 30 Fields and 83 categories. For a complete nominations list, visit www.grammy.com. Congratulate nominees and catch exclusive videos and content on Facebook. Join @theGRAMMYs Twitter Moments conversation using #GRAMMYs.

Marshall McLuhan’s Distant Early Warning Card Deck Is Now Available

0

I keep a pack of Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt’s Oblique Strategies cards on my desk, and although I don’t use them enough, I actually might do a purchase of this: A deck of playing cards called Distant Early Warning is designed to be used as a problem-solving device as taught by Marshall McLuhan when you need that extra push. The deck was originally given to subscribers to the “DEW-Line Newsletter” but you can buy them at Marshall’s son Eric’s site here. They come in a choice of colours green, red, black, blue, or brown, and the package also includes inserted instruction sheet.

Tunecore Was Hacked 3 Weeks Ago. This Is What You Need To Know

0

In a security update post on their website, Tunecore’s initial investigation shows that the data that may have been accessed included names, email addresses, mailing addresses if provided to us, TuneCore account numbers, and TuneCore passwords. Although TuneCore passwords were stored in a protected form, it is possible for a determined hacker, with sufficient time, using advanced computing tools, to recover those passwords.

For those customers who provided us with billing information, the data that may have been accessed includes: billing addresses; the last 4 digits of credit card numbers, as well as their expiration dates; bank names, the last 4 digits of bank account numbers, and the last 4 digits of bank routing numbers, and the name and address associated with the bank account on file. Full financial account information is never stored with TuneCore.

TuneCore is working closely with federal law enforcement investigators. At this time, no individual person or entity has been identified as the attacker. TuneCore says they never keeps full credit card or banking account information. Only the last four digits of financial account numbers for those customers who made transactions through TuneCore was stored on the compromised servers.

TuneCore has already invalidated all its users’ passwords, and are asking users to log into their account as soon as possible and select anothernew password. If you used the same password for TuneCore as for any other accounts or websites, you should also change the passwords for those accounts.

Although TuneCore did not store any complete financial information, it is always a good idea to review your payment and bank account statements carefully and call your bank or card issuer if you see any suspicious transactions. The major credit card companies have a policy providing that you will not be liable for unauthorized charges if you report them in a timely manner.

Go On. Guess Where Bud Weisser Tried To Break Into.

0

In a struggle between Bud Weisser and Budweiser, the beer company seems to have won.

Bud A. Weisser, 19, received summonses from police Thursday accusing him of first-degree trespassing and resisting arrest after he allegedly entered the Anheuser-Busch brewery property at 9th and Arsenal Streets, where the “King of Beers” is produced.

Police said Weisser abandoned his car after a crash about 6:48 p.m. and hopped the fence into a secure area of the brewery, where he struggled with security officers who had asked him to leave.

Fan Changes His Fave Band’s Wiki Page To Get Backstage…And It Works

0

David Spargo loves the Australian band Peking Duk. I mean, really, really like them. He came up a brilliant way, and one I’ve never ever heard of in all my years of working in the music industry. On Wednesday night in Melbourne, he went to the backstage area of a concert, where he was stopped by a security guard. David told him he was band member Reuben Styles’ stepbrother, and for proof, he pulled up Peking Duk’s Wikipedia page on his phone and pointed out his name. The name he added only a few minutes before. Guess what happened?

That’s right. He got in.

“It was probably the most genius, mastermind move that I’ve ever witnessed,” said Adam Hyde, Styles’ bandmate. “It’s crazy. He just did it on the spot, in a second on his phone.

“He told the security guard he was our stepbrother or something, and showed them the Wikipedia page and his ID.”

It goes to show, said Hyde, “never trust Wikipedia”.

Spargo introduced himself to the band, who were more impressed by his ingenuity than concerned by the security breach.

Let’s hope the terrorists don’t clue into this one.
