Garage Punk Rebels Soraia Return With Fierce New EP ‘Confessions From The Vena Cava’

0

Philly-based garage punk outfit Soraia unveils their new EP, entitled Confessions from the Vena Cava, a five-track collection of rough and tough songs.

The title of the EP was borrowed from angiology. The largest vein in your body is the vena cava, which has two parts, called the inferior vena cava and the superior vena cava. They bring oxygen-poor blood back from other parts of your body to your heart for oxygenation.

Allegorically, the title implies the band’s recent oxygen-poor status: they had parted ways with their label and their producer. In a sense, the band lacked direction. At the suggestion of Diamond Dogs’ Sören ‘Sulo’ Karlsson, Soraia travelled to Sweden to work with producer Thomas Skogsberg, who led them along the rejuvenating path of punk.

Soraia is made up of Mansour (vocals, songwriting), Travis Smith (bass, co-songwriter, vocals), Brianna Sig (drums, vocals), and Mike Jaffe (guitar, vocals).

Entry points on the Confessions from the Vena Cava include the opener, “So Holy,” rolling out on a barbed wire guitar onslaught topped by Mansour’s wonderfully potent voice, lambasting the use of religion to vilify others.

A personal favorite because of its grinding, gritty textures and Mansour’s snarling vocals. “Body In The Backyard” rides a driving rhythm that gives the melody pressurized oomph. Tight vocal harmonies add to the unyielding intensity of the harmonics.

On “Children Of Lesser Prayers,” Mansour’s voice depicts darker tones flavoured by portentous timbres. For some reason, the song summons memories of L7 with vague hints of The Donnas. According to Mansour, “This song asks the question whether where a person is born determines the value of their prayers.”

“Looks Are Deceiving” slows things down a bit. Heavy, growling guitars and light percussion support Mansour’s evocative voice, revealing a moving, irresistible power ballad that’s simultaneously raw and vulnerable.

Akin to being pushed down a rocky hill, Confessions from the Vena Cava hits hard with its sense of gravitational momentum.

Country Favorite Jake Owen Announces Soulful New Album ‘Dreams to Dream’ With Shooter Jennings, Jamey Johnson, and Savannah Conley

0

Jake Owen will release his new studio album Dreams to Dream, produced by Shooter Jennings and Jake Owen and recorded at Snake Mountain (Sunset Sound Studio 3) in Los Angeles. The new album also features Jamey Johnson on “The Jukebox Knows,” and Savannah Conley on “Them Old Love Songs,” with writing credits that include Owen’s longtime friends and acclaimed songwriters Ben Chapman and Kendell Marvel. Dreams to Dream is due out November 7th via Good Company Entertainment.

“Sometimes you need to get outside what’s comfortable, what people think you are, or think you should be, and take a risk,” Owen shares.

With the album announcement, Owen has also shared “Long Time Lovin’ You.” For him, “Long Time Lovin’ You” is simple, easy, and real.

“My mom loves those types of songs where my voice is very soft and kind of pleasant on the ear,” he adds.

When Owen was a boy down in Vero Beach, Florida, he used to pick out country tunes by the likes of Hank Williams Jr. and Merle Haggard on back porches for his parents. “Long Time Lovin’ You” follows the release of the title track, “Dreams to Dream,” as well as a stunning cover of the Waylon Jennings tune, “Them Old Love Songs,” reimagined in the studio with Jennings.

A trusted troubadour for hot summer nights and cold beers, Owen is now in his forties, tangling with separations from lost lovers, raising kids, and growing out of the fresh-faced kid who headed down to Nashville 20 years back with a six-string and a dream. Not that he doesn’t still have both — the latter has just matured. Dreams to Dream, Owen’s long-awaited foray into old-school country, shines a light on raw and authentic storytelling that dives into real-life experiences like heartbreak, struggle, and defiance.

Ahead of the album release, Owen will join Darius Rucker for five shows in the UK from September 29th through October 5th. Then, at the end of October, Jake will team up with Dirty Heads for a small run of shows in Florida, October 23-26, before wrapping up the year with the annual Flamingo Weekend, benefiting The Jake Owen Foundation.

Country Star Warren Zeiders Unveils Powerful New Single “Only Bible” With Warner Records

0

Warren Zeiders shares his newest single “Only Bible” via Warner Records. Co-written by Warren Zeiders, Ryan Hurd (Blake Shelton, Lady A, Luke Bryan), Daniel Ross (Morgan Wallen, Mitchell Tenpenny, Maddie & Tae), and Joe Clemmons (Hardy, Gabby Barrett), the song carries a deeply personal message that stuck with Zeiders: how many people may never step foot in a church, open a Bible, or hear God’s words directly; the way believers live may be the only Bible someone ever reads.

“Only Bible” is Zeiders’ first release since his album Relapse, Lies & Betrayal earlier this year. The 21-track double album is an exploration of personal transformation, heartbreak, and an unconditional fervor for love.

The new single adds to Zeiders’ growing success in country music throughout this year. At only 26, Zeiders has amassed 2.7 billion total US streams to date (plus 3.6 billion global streams). In 2024, he secured his first No. 1 single at country radio with his track “Pretty Little Poison” and won a CMT Awards for Breakthrough Male Video of the Year. Last week, he was presented with Pandora’s Billionaire Plaque, recognizing over one billion streams on the platform.

This week, he kicks off his Relapse, Lies, & Betrayal headlining tour. With support from Chayce Beckam and Dylan Marlowe, Zeiders will travel across North America this fall.

Atlus Announces Debut EP ‘Secondhand Smoke’ Out October 10 On BBR Music Group BMG Nashville

0

Platinum recording artist Atlus has announced the release of his debut EP, Secondhand Smoke, on BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, arriving October 10th. The six-song collection marks the next chapter for the viral hitmaker whose career has grown from underground phenom to a billion-plus on-demand streams, four independent studio albums, a platinum single, national touring, and millions of fans across social platforms.

“The songs on Secondhand Smoke are more than just individual tracks; they are chapters from my life,” says Atlus. ”Each one tells a story that I’ve lived through, and it’s my hope that they push somebody out there to keep fighting, dreaming, and that there is something in one of those chapters that helps them keep showing up.”

Pulling back the curtain on his past to forge a new path forward, Secondhand Smoke sees Atlus writing on each track, confronting deeply personal themes, from a turbulent home life and his mother’s resilience, to his sister’s battle with addiction and his own journey with mental health.

“IOD on You” is the second release from the project. The song transforms a family history of addiction into a striking love story. Over an ethereal, dream-like soundscape that builds toward an uplifting crescendo, Atlus revisits past vices of loved ones before revealing the twist: his newest and most consuming addiction is love itself.

“IOD on You” joins the previously released “Devil Ain’t Done” and its official video on the forthcoming project.

Atlus will mark the release of Secondhand Smoke with a special Nashville preview performance on October 9th at Cannery Hall.

Prince’s ‘Around The World In A Day’ To Be Reissued As Deluxe Edition For 40th Anniversary

0

Prince’s seventh album, Around The World In A Day, will be reissued as a deluxe edition for its 40th anniversary this fall. The new version will be available on 2 CDs, 3 LPs, a single CD, a single LP, a single LP blue marble 140-gram vinyl, and a single LP picture disc on November 21st via NPG Records and Paisley Park Enterprises, in partnership with Warner Records and Legacy Recordings.

The sets contain audio newly remastered by original mastering engineer Bernie Grundman, with additional mastering by Chris James. The Around The World In A Day Deluxe Edition includes the original album plus an entire bonus disc of extra material. The B-Sides & Bonus Tracks disc features the extended versions of the A & B sides, including the remix of “Paisley Park,” the extended version of “Girl and Hello (Fresh Dance Mix),” the nearly 22-minute 12-inch version of “America” (which makes its debut on CD), and two versions of the 1985 song, “4 The Tears In Your Eyes.”

Around the World In A Day was the second to be credited to Prince and the Revolution. It was released on April 22, 1985, and featured no fewer than four singles. The album saw Prince and the Revolution change musical direction again, experimenting with psychedelic textures, incorporating new instrumentation, and expanding the genres of songs within the album.

In July, the labels released the nearly 22-minute full version of “America” to digital outlets. Originally released in October 1985, “America,” which Prince described as “straightforwardly patriotic,” was the fourth and final single to be taken from Around The World In A Day, released five months earlier. The 12-inch version of the track weighs in at 21 minutes 41 seconds and has been newly remastered in stereo by Bernie Grundman for its first-ever streaming release. The single and album versions of the song were edited down from this epic performance, which was only cut short as the tape ran out.
