The Artist Entrepreneur Program is specifically designed to help emerging artists and bands from all genres build their businesses, careers, and brands. Canada’s Music Incubator’s main focus during the program includes mentoring, networking, and collaboration.

In addition to working hands-on with the Canada’s Music Incubator’s and Coalition Music’s team of social media, marketing, management, promotion, publicity, funding, touring, producing, sound and songwriting experts, artists will get a chance to meet active industry professionals in music law, accounting, publishing, booking, talent buying, music supervision, radio, performing rights organizations, funding bodies, and technical production, among others. Artists will also have ongoing access to Canada’s Music Incubator and Coalition Music’s resources and expertise after the program ends.

Heavy music has been on the radars of millions of musicians and fans alike for decades, and despite its massive international commercial reach, this cluster of diverse genres doesn’t always get its proper slice of resources and representation.

This session will provide you with an informative panel by industry pros, an opportunity to network with engaged players in the hard rock/metal scenes, live music and snacks/refreshments to keep you going!

Drowning Pool Announce Tour Dates Supporting “Hellelujah”
DROWNING POOL have announced a string of headlining tour dates serving as the first wave of support for their forthcoming LP. Audiotopsy and Violent New Breed will serve as support. “We’re beyond excited to finally get out on the road in support of our new LP,” says guitarist CJ Pierce. “We know Drowning Pool fans are eager to hear new music live, they’ll definitely get that and more at these live shows!” 

The band recently debuted a third new song titled “Hell To Pay,” exclusively via Revolver Magazine. “It’s about the futility of regret,” says vocalist Jasen Moreno. “It’s about the danger in second guessing yourself. It’s about battling depression. It’s about closure.”

The band released their hit single “By The Blood” last month and it continues to rise up the Active Rock Radio chart as well as SiriusXM’s Octane channel. A lyric video can be seen below.

Drowning Pool will release Hellelujah on February 5, 2016 via Entertainment One Music (eOne).

The band tapped renowned artist Brian Mercer (CHRIS CORNELL, LAMB OF GOD, HIGH ON FIRE) to design the cover art. Hellelujah will be the follow up to Resilience, released in 2013. This time the band worked with producer Jason Suecof (AUGUST BURNS RED, DEICIDE, DEATH ANGEL) at the helm.
DROWNING POOL will also be performing at the 2016 NAIRMA AWARDS taking place January 22nd at The Yost Theater in Anaheim, CA. The award show is just one of many events surrounding the annual NAMM Convention. Click here for tickets and more info.

David Bowie on the first time he got stoned

The first time I got stoned on grass was with John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin many, many years ago, when he was still a bass player on Herman’s Hermits records. We’d been talking to Ramblin’ Jack Elliott somewhere and Jonesy said to me, “Come over and I’ll turn you on to grass.” I thought about it and said, “Sure, I’ll give it a whirl.”

We went over to his flat–he had a huge room, with nothing in it except this huge vast Hammond organ, right next door to the police department. I had done cocaine before but never grass. I don’t know why it should have happened in that order, probably because I knew a couple of merchant seamen who used to bring it back from the docks. I had been doing it with them. And they loathed grass.

So I watched in wonder while Jonesy rolled these three fat joints. And we got stoned on all of them. I became incredibly high and it turned into an in-fucking-credible hunger. I ate two loaves of bread. Then the telephone rang. Jonesy said, “Go and answer that for me, will you?” So I went downstairs to answer the phone and kept on walking right out into the street. I never went back. I just got intensely fascinated with the cracks in the pavement.

MusiCounts Announces Benefit Concert in Toronto
In working in the music industry for over 20 years, I can’t tell you how many artists I’ve met who were consumed by music as children, or during their teenage years. They could have only dream of playing music in a band. It helps if you have access to an instrument, but sometimes it’s an emotional fact that some schools and community groups don’t have money to buy them. In Canada, we’re all lucky to have MusiCounts, the music education charity associated with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) is helping to keep music alive across Canada. MusiCounts’ mission is to ensure that children in Canada, regardless of socio-economic circumstances or cultural background, have access to music programs through their schools and communities. This is achieved through the Band Aid Program, the TD Community Music Program, the MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award, Scholarships and other music education initiatives. Since MusiCounts’ establishment in 1997, nearly $8,000,000 will have been awarded to help support music education in Canada. These funds have benefited over 700 schools and communities from coast to coast, supported over 330 post-secondary music program graduates and honoured 10 extraordinary music teachers through the MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award.
On January 28, Canada’s music and education charity MusiCounts will provide Toronto with a funk, rock and pop spectacular at The Phoenix Concert Theatre. Sponsored by TD, the benefit concert will feature performances by God Made Me Funky, Bucket List, Joey Landreth of The Bros. Landreth, Simone Denny, Lee Aaron and indie pop outfit The Elwins. All proceeds raised will help fund various MusiCounts programs such as MusiCounts Band Aid Grants, a musical instrument grant program, and the MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award which recognizes music teachers with outstanding dedication to inspiring and nurturing the musical growth of Canadian youth.

The always great Canadian DJ and producer Skratch Bastid created an awesome remix of David Bowie‘s hit song “Let’s Dance” as a brilliant tribute to the music legend.

Late night in the studio… took a break from working on a new mix to check my feeds… only to find it flooded with news that the legendary David Bowie has passed. Lots can be said & written to eulogize prolific artists like him, but I think the most appropriate way for a DJ to celebrate my favourite artists is by sharing their music. So how about a little routine?

David Bowie Dies After 18-Month Battle With Cancer

David Bowie has died at the age of 69, 18 months after being diagnosed with cancer.

The singer’s death was confirmed in a post via his Facebook page this morning: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, also confirmed the news via a Tweet, writing: “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while.” Bowie released his latest album, Black Star, just last week on his 69th birthday.

Except for Paul McCartney, there might not be another musician as influential as Bowie. Even if you never got into his music, your favourite artist certainly has.

Rest in peace.
