Hot on the heels of the release of his self-penned R&B-inspired power pop ballad, “Maybe,” Broadway/TV star Brandon Victor Dixon is now set for his next single. Due out on August 22nd via BVD Records, Dixon will be unleashing his elegant, soulful, powerful rendition of one of the best-loved classic rock songs of all time, The Eagles’ “Hotel California”. The track features Dixon’s mellifluous lead vocals, a lush orchestral string arrangement, a gospel choir as well as piano, guitar, drums and bass.
“Hotel California” is taken from Brandon Victor Dixon’s forthcoming as-of-yet-untitled solo album, which is now slated for an early 2026 release. The first single, the self-penned “Maybe,” was released in May and received glowing praise from the media. Soul Tracks declared it to be “a lush tapestry,” stating, “Dixon uses his smooth vocals to distribute layers of inspiration and healing to the weary soul…”
Brandon Victor Dixon is a Grammy Award winner and Emmy and Tony (3x) Award nominated actor, singer and producer. Jesse Harris has released his new single “Dolores” thate features him with a full orchestra, accompanying himself on guitar. Inspired by classic albums such as Frank Sinatra’s Where Are You and Harry Nilsson’s A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night, Harris continues the tradition with a modern twist, assisted by Brazilian arranger and conductor, Maycon Ananias.
Harris is best known as the Grammy Award winning songwriter of “Don’t Know Why,” which has been recorded by Norah Jones, Smokey Robinson, Pat Metheny and many others. “Dolores” is the first single from his forthcoming album with Ananias, If You Believed In Me, out this fall.
Jesse says of the new single: “One evening at home in the fall of 2024, I wrote and recorded a song about a black cat with yellow eyes named Dolores. It was meant to be nothing more than a gift to its owner, but about a week later my old friend Maycon Ananias, a composer and arranger from Brazil, sent me a text saying he had something to propose: record his symphonic arrangements with an orchestra in Estonia, where he was writing a commission for the 95th birthday celebration of Arvo Pärt. The session was already scheduled and would also include other pieces of Maycon’s. Never had I recorded any of my music with an orchestra, and, serendipitously, this new song, with its spaciousness and fluid chord harmony, seemed ideal.”

Organizers of Farm Aid have announced that Kenny Chesney, Wynonna Judd, and Steve Earle will join the Farm Aid 40 lineup at Huntington Rock Stadium in Minneapolis on September 20th.
“We’re excited to have Kenny Chesney back on the Farm Aid stage this year,” states Jennifer Fahy, co-executive director of Farm Aid. “He’s one of many artists who have returned to Farm Aid, generously donating their travel and performances to raise awareness about the family farmers who grow good food for all of us. Kenny’s appearance, along with the addition of music legends Wynonna Judd and Steve Earle, will make this an unforgettable anniversary event.”
Chesney, an eight-time Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year award winner, is one of America’s biggest concert draws. Farm Aid will mark his only 2025 concert performance outside his recently wrapped Sphere residency. It also marks his fourth Farm Aid appearance. Judd is one of the most decorated female artists in country music history, with 19 No. 1 singles and an induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Earle, who became a member of the Grand Ole Opry this year, is no stranger to the Farm Aid stage. This year will be his ninth appearance since joining the inaugural event in 1985.
Together, they join the star-studded Farm Aid 40 lineup, which features Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young (and the Chrome Hearts), John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds, and Margo Price, as well as Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Trampled by Turtles, Waxahatchee, Eric Burton of Black Pumas, Jesse Welles, Madeline Edwards, and Wisdom Indian Dancers.
Tickets for Farm Aid’s 40th anniversary music and food festival range from $101 to $390 (fees included, not sales tax).
Farm Aid’s mission is to build a vibrant, family farm-centered system of agriculture in America. Farm Aid artists and board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and Margo Price host an annual festival to raise funds to support Farm Aid’s work with family farmers and to inspire people to choose family farm food. Since 1985, Farm Aid, with the support of the artists who contribute their performances each year, has raised more than $85 million to support programs that help farmers thrive, expand the reach of the Good Food Movement, take action to change the dominant system of industrial agriculture, and promote food from family farms.
The forthcoming David Gilmour live album and film entitled THE LUCK AND STRANGE CONCERTS and LIVE AT THE CIRCUS MAXIMUS, ROME, beautifully capture the 2024 Luck and Strange tour.

Country star John Michael Montgomery will bring The Road Home Tour to Kentucky for his farewell performance. It will be a night to remember as Montgomery takes one final ride through his storied career on December 12th at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY.
Brought to Rupp Arena by Outback Presents, this special concert will be a historical moment capping off the superstar’s illustrious run, but to make it even more special, it will be a complete family affair, as he shares the stage with his brother Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry, his son Walker Montgomery, and his son-in-law Travis Denning. The star-studded concert promises to be the event of the year.
“I stepped on a tour bus for the first time in 1992 and haven’t looked back since, but now it’s time to bring it all back home for my last concert and I can’t think of a better place than Rupp Arena. I wanted to celebrate this occasion with my family, so I invited some of them to perform with me. We are going to have a lot of fun and end this ride in a big way,” says Montgomery.
Presales start tomorrow (Wed, July 30th) ahead of the general sale on Friday, August 1st at 10 am local time.
A fixture on the charts in the 1990s with hits like “Life’s A Dance,” “I Love The Way You Love Me,” “Sold,” “Be My Baby Tonight,” “I Swear,” and others, Montgomery charted a whopping 36 singles throughout his decades-long career, including seven that reached No. 1, and released 11 studio albums amassing millions in sales, and receiving numerous multi-platinum and gold RIAA plaques, as well as countless music industry awards and nominations.
The country music icon announced in 2024 that he would officially retire from full-time touring at the end of 2025 with his The Road Home Tour.
Gibson has shaped the sound of music since 1894, when Orville Gibson first designed and built mandolins in his workshop. 130 years on, the groundbreaking and forward-thinking carved top design that revolutionized the mandolin and guitar world, delivering a louder, more durable, more playable instrument, remains the DNA of every Gibson.
To honor this journey, Gibson is proud to celebrate the groundbreaking two-time GRAMMY-nominated mandolin virtuoso, singer, guitarist, and songwriter, Sierra Hull, who is now the first-ever female artist to have a signature Gibson mandolin. On October 7, Gibson will debut the Sierra Hull F-5 Master Model and the Sierra Hull F-5G mandolins worldwide. Both mandolins will arrive in a Sierra Burst VOS Varnish finish and come with unique case candy in a package worthy of this trailblazing artist who has taken the mandolin and bluegrass communities by storm.
“We spent about two years talking and dreaming about what this mandolin would become,” says Hull. “The exciting thing for me is that the mandolin that I have played exclusively since 2009 was signed by Master Luthier David Harvey. It’s become my voice after so many years of playing it. Being able to work on this project with David personally gave me the confidence that we’d be able to achieve something unique, while still honoring the legacy and history of those beloved Master Model mandolins. It’s exciting and full circle to see these new mandolins with my name on them and his signature inside.
“When I finally played the prototype for the first time, I knew these instruments would be something that I could be proud of. They are hand-built with the highest level of quality by the team at Gibson—many folks who have worked there for years. Mandolins can also be very expensive. They take a lot of time and care to build right. If I’m going to put my name on something with that kind of price tag, it needs to be a great instrument and something long-lasting. I truly believe these mandolins are, and I’m really proud of that.”
“Sierra Hull is one of the most gifted mandolin players and singer-songwriters of our time,” says Mat Koehler, Vice President of Product at Gibson. “She has redefined what’s possible on the mandolin and across the many genres she explores. Her signature models reflect her passion for the instrument and her uncompromising approach to tone and feel. Each one is built with pride, authenticity, and soul at the Gibson Custom Shop, and we’re honored to have worked with Sierra to bring them to life.”
A first look at the Gibson Sierra Hull F-5 Master Model mandolin, set for release worldwide on October 7.
“Sierra’s music transcends traditional bluegrass – she strikes a beautiful balance between old-time sounds and contemporary Americana, pioneering and shaping the sound of modern acoustic music and inspiring a whole new generation of music lovers,” adds Codey Allen, Gibson Cultural Influence-North America. “Sierra has inspired all of us at Gibson, and it has been a joy to share the creative process with her. She has poured so much time, love, and attention into every detail of her signature mandolins, and we are grateful to share in this celebration of her art.”
“This was the first time I’ve gotten to see the process of building mandolins up close and personal, which has been such a beautiful and fun thing to witness,” continues Hull. “To see a mandolin go from simply a piece of wood to the final product of an amazing instrument is kind of mind-blowing. I’ve never been one to know a lot about the ins and outs of wood types, or real specs of instruments, but I am really connected to what I feel and hear from an instrument—even if I don’t always have the language to discuss it. I’ve learned, and continue to learn, a lot about this tiny instrument I love so much through this process. It’s been so fun.”
Currently nominated for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s “Female Vocalist of the Year” and “Mandolin Player of the Year,” Sierra is also the only woman to have been nominated for, let alone win, six International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) “Mandolin Player of the Year” awards, Sierra Hull is world-renowned for her exceptional technical proficiency and genre-bending musical style. Sierra started playing mandolin at age eight, and by age 10, made her Grand Ole Opry debut. Her fusion of bluegrass, Americana, folk, jazz, and modern progressive acoustic music attracted the attention of other highly skilled bluegrass musicians, and she has collaborated with and received accolades from Eric Clapton, Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile, Cory Wong, Billy Strings, Dave Matthews, Bill Kreutzmann, Sturgill, Simpson Gillian Welch, Béla Fleck, and Alison Krauss. Hailing from Byrdstown, Tennessee, Hull’s innovative sound is deeply rooted in bluegrass yet continually pushes boundaries.
After releasing her debut album, Secrets (2008), Sierra followed with other critically acclaimed albums, Daybreak (2011), Weighted Mind (2016), and 25 Trips (2020), which cemented her place as one of the most innovative musicians in contemporary bluegrass and acoustic music today. Marking her first album in five years, the new A Tip Toe High Wire is a nod to her modern musical juggling act, delving into new, progressive territory without wandering too far from her roots. Self-produced with longtime friend and engineer Shani Gandhi, A Tip Toe High Wire features her skilled and seasoned touring band—Shaun Richardson (guitar), Avery Merritt (fiddle), Erik Coveney (bass), and Mark Raudabaugh (drums)but it’s also her first album to be released independently.
Hull has performed on iconic stages like Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry, and the White House, and she continues to delight and inspire audiences worldwide with her innovative artistry. Hull recently wrapped a run of Outlaw dates performing alongside Billy Strings, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson. Catch Sierra on tour throughout 2025 both in major cities including Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, New York City, Nashville, and Portland, as well as the Earl Scruggs Festival, IBMA Bluegrass Live 2025, and the Bender Jamboree; see all Sierra Hull tour dates: https://www.sierrahull.com/tour.

CBC presents the 2025 Polaris Music Prize has revealed the five-nominee Short List for its first-ever SOCAN Polaris Song Prize.
Polaris, celebrating its 20th anniversary, and SOCAN, celebrating its 100th anniversary, recently announced the new Song Prize where the winning song takes home $10,000 split between the song’s Canadian performers and the song’s credited Canadian songwriter(s). Similar to the Polaris Album Prize, the SOCAN Polaris Song Prize will honour the Canadian song of the year, based on artistic merit, without regard to musical genre or commercial popularity.
The 2025 SOCAN Polaris Song Prize Short List is:
Lou-Adriane Cassidy — “Dis-moi dis-moi dis-moi,” written by Lou-Adriane Cassidy and Alexandre Martel
Saya Gray — “SHELL (OF A MAN),” written by Saya Gray and John Mavro
Yves Jarvis — “Gold Filagree,” written by Yves Jarvis
Mustafa — “Gaza is Calling,” written by Mustafa Ahmed, Emmanuel Hailemariam, Simon Hessman, Nicolas Jaar
Ribbon Skirt — “Wrong Planet,” written by Tashiina Buswa and Billy Riley
“Sometimes, a song is so powerful it stands on its own and demands to be heard, and the SOCAN Polaris Song Prize Short List honours five such unforgettable Canadian songs,” said Jennifer Brown, SOCAN CEO. “SOCAN is proud to have a partner in Polaris that understands that to truly honour a song, you must celebrate its full story — the songwriters and the craft — in addition to the voices who bring it to life.”
The SOCAN Polaris Song Prize category is Polaris’ first new award since it introduced the hall of fame Heritage Prize in 2015. An initial 20-nominee Song Long List was released on June 24 before the Polaris jury narrowed the list down to its finalists.
The winning Polaris song will be revealed during the Polaris Concert & Award Ceremony, powered by FACTOR, taking place at Toronto’s Massey Hall on Tuesday, September 16. Tickets to the Polaris Concert & Award Ceremony are on sale now via the Massey Hall website. To celebrate the Song Prize Short List, Polaris is offering 15% off tickets with the code POLARIS15.
With Canadian musicians releasing an increasing number of singles annually, an award in this segment provides more artists and songwriters with opportunities to be acknowledged and supported by Polaris, its partners, and the industry. Polaris aims to ensure these outstanding works receive the recognition they deserve. By expanding our awards, we strengthen our mission to celebrate and elevate the diversity and creativity of Canadian music.
The launch of the Song Prize is part of an extensive suite of exciting programming changes announced for the organization’s 20th season. Keeping with tradition, Polaris will award $30,000 courtesy of the Slaight Family Foundation to the artist who creates the Canadian Album of the Year, judged solely on artistic merit, without consideration for genre or record sales. In September, Polaris will debut its first month-long Polaris Festival presented by SiriusXM Canada, featuring new programming like Salons, Listening Parties, Poster Exhibits, and Concerts, all culminating in the annual Concert & Award Ceremony. The aim is to spotlight as many of our 600+ past nominees as possible while reaching new audiences through expanded programming and diverse venues. More details on these events will be shared in the coming weeks.
Additionally, the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize, the organization’s hall of fame for Canadian albums of distinction from the past, will be launched on August 5 and run throughout August. The hybrid critics prize/public vote campaign will feature 12 exceptional nominees in contention for Heritage designation.
