Genre-Blurring Alt-Pop Artist Maisi Explores Self-Sabotage On Vulnerable New Single “try” From ‘u Could Be Something’ EP

0

Maisi delivers her latest single “try,” a slower and vulnerable track about self-sabotage, untapped potential and the quiet wish for someone you love to finally believe in themselves. The genre-blurring alt-pop artist, producer and DJ fuses electro-pop, indie-pop and hyperpop while taking cues from the likes of Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, MARINA and The 1975, pairing glossy, forward-thinking production with raw, introspective lyricism. Describing her sound as “existential angst pop,” Maisi captures the chaos, humour and anxiety of being in your twenties with music that is as self-aware and emotionally charged as it is danceable. The song connects with a generation more open about mental health than ever before, where phrases like “bed rotting” appear across social media and the struggle to keep moving feels deeply personal but universally shared. Inspired by people in her life who could be brilliant but hold themselves back, “try” serves as both an ode to lost potential and a plea to keep trying.

Maisi has had an exciting year on the live circuit, having already supported artists including Chinchilla, Michael Aldag, piri & tommy, and joining Mae Muller and Sophie and the Giants for upcoming dates. Quickly establishing herself as a standout presence on the London and UK live scene through dynamic performances at showcase nights like Abbie McCarthy’s Good Karma Club and Honour Morrison’s Good Vibes Only, she’s also the creator of The Cxnty School Disco, a chaotic, nostalgia-fuelled club night celebrating 2000s bangers, hyperpop and indie sleaze that has sold out every time and even took over a stage at Truck Festival. She’s throwing a Cxnty School Disco party on October 10th to celebrate the release of “try” and the ‘u could be something’ EP. Maisi’s music has helped her find an audience of 160,000 on TikTok with over 9 million likes and a combined following of over 180,000 across all social media platforms, with her collaboration with piri on “Head” taking over the internet last year, seeing over 40,000 TikTok creations and reaching number 1 in the TikTok charts.

Sugar Returns With First New Music In Over Three Decades “House Of Dead Memories” And Announce Live Shows

0

Sugar, the iconic alternative rock trio led by Bob Mould alongside bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis, has returned with their first new music together in over three decades, “House of Dead Memories.” Recorded at Tiny Telephone Oakland in June 2025, the song arrives via Granary Music and BMG as the band prepares to celebrate with their first live performances together since January 1995. Shows are set for New York City’s Webster Hall on Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd, and London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on Saturday, May 23rd and Sunday, May 24th. Next month, Sugar’s essential 1992 debut album ‘Copper Blue’ will be commemorated with ‘Copper Blue – The Singles Collection,’ a limited edition 4 LP box set releasing via BMG on November 28th as part of Record Store Day Black Friday. The collection gathers anthemic favorites like “Changes,” “A Good Idea” and “If I Can’t Change Your Mind,” all originally released on 12-inch vinyl in the UK via Creation Records backed with beloved B-sides like “Needle Hits E” and “Clownmaster,” plus live recordings from Sugar’s 1992 performance at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro, with “Helpless” presented on 12-inch vinyl for the first time.

Having already placed his indelible mark on rock’s future direction with Hüsker Dü, Mould teamed with Barbe and Travis to found Sugar in late 1991, making their live debut at Athens, GA’s famed 40 Watt Club. ‘Copper Blue’ immediately proved a sensation, earning worldwide acclaim for the melodic strength and intensely cathartic popcraft of songs like “A Good Idea,” “Helpless” and the alternative rock radio hit “If I Can’t Change Your Mind.” Sugar unleashed ‘Beaster’ in 1993, debuting at No. 3 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart and No. 4 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart with a more visceral energy and dark melancholy than its predecessor. 1994’s ‘File Under: Easy Listening’ landed in the top 10 on the UK Official Albums Chart and upper reaches of the overall Billboard 200, pushing boundaries on songs like the country-flavored “Believe What You’re Saying” and incendiary “Gee Angel” without sacrificing their signature intensity. Despite their successes, Sugar called it a day following a Japanese tour in early 1995, with the original members reconvening three decades later to record “House Of Dead Memories.”

Critically acclaimed guitarist and singer Orianthi has released “Dark Days Are Gone,” the fifth single from her studio album ‘Some Kind Of Feeling’ via Woodward Avenue Records. Produced by Kevin “The Caveman” Shirley, who handled seven of the album’s tracks alongside Orianthi’s production on three songs including “First Time Blues,” “Ghost” and “Bad For Each Other,” the new single continues her prolific streak of stylistically diverse releases that have launched a fresh, adventurous phase of her solo career. The Australian native has collaborated with Alice Cooper, Dave Stewart and Richie Sambora over the years, and was hired by Michael Jackson for his London performances the year of his untimely death, while her success as an artist in her own right started with her Top 20 Billboard pop hit “According to You” and gold-selling 2009 Geffen album ‘Believe.’ With every new single, Orianthi demonstrates she’s at the top of her game in every way, finding fresh, vulnerable yet attitude-filled musical stories while showcasing the guitar chops that have made her a modern-day rock icon.

The Best Songs and Music Genres to Listen to While Gaming

0

By Mitch Rice

There’s something special about pairing the right music with gaming sessions. Grinding through a tough level or exploring a new world is transformed by the right soundtrack. Many gamers find that music helps keep them focused and also helps them enjoy long gaming sessions without burning out. The trick is to find the right playlist. Different games call for different vibes, and what works for a puzzle game definitely won’t work for a fast-paced shooter.

Fast-Paced Games Need High-Energy Music

Shooters and fighting games are heavy on the action, so they need a music style that pumps up your energy. Rock, metal, or electronic music are great choices, especially if they have a driving beat. They naturally keep your energy up and even sharpen your reflexes.

The music’s rhythm is important. The consistent beat can improve your reaction time in competitive shooters, helping you keep up with the game’s pace.

Music also helps you keep focused during online gaming sessions. People who enjoy online casino games often use music to stay relaxed and block outside noises. This is particularly helpful during fast-paced games, live table games, and instant play slots like those listed in our complete UK crypto casino selection. These platforms support digital coins and quick payments, keeping everything moving. Music amps up the pace and makes these gaming sessions more enjoyable.

However, songs with long intros or sudden tempo changes can throw off your concentration right when it matters most. Tracks with a steady energy throughout work best.

Strategy Games Call For Calmer Sounds

You need clear thinking and calm focus when playing strategy games like Civilization. Loud, aggressive music will just distract you.

A better choice for these game types is instrumental music. Ambient electronic music, classical piano pieces, or even nature sounds can create the right atmosphere. The key is to find a playlist that creates a calm environment and that doesn’t demand attention.

It’s also best to avoid songs with lyrics, as they can be distracting when you’re trying to read tooltips or plan your resources. Purely instrumental tracks work better during strategy sessions, leaving the mind free to focus on gameplay.

RPGs Deserve Immersive Soundtracks

Music choice really gets fun when it comes to RPGs. These games already come with incredible soundtracks, but during those long grinding sessions or fetch quests, adding personal music selections can enhance the experience.

For fantasy RPGs, orchestral music feels just right. Strings, horns, and timpani drums match that sense of adventure perfectly. Sci-fi games like Cyberpunk or Mass Effect go better with synth-heavy electronic music.

It can also be fun to create different playlists for different in-game activities. Try calm, atmospheric tracks for exploration and town visits, then switch to more energetic music when combat starts. It can make the whole experience feel more dynamic.

Racing Games and Driving Beats Go Together

Racing games practically demand high-tempo music, like electronic dance music, hip-hop, and drum-heavy tracks. The consistent beats can help you nail those tight corners and get the perfect timing on boosts.

Bass-heavy tracks are a good choice as they create a sense of momentum and speed that enhances racing games. Just make sure the music isn’t so loud that important audio cues like engine sounds or collision warnings get drowned out.

Casual Games Pair Well With Relaxed Listening

Not all gaming sessions need to be intense. Some people enjoy unwinding with puzzle games or casual mobile games, and music should help with unwinding. Lo-fi hip hop, acoustic tracks, and soft indie music are popular choices here.

These relaxed gaming sessions are actually perfect for discovering new music. Since the game doesn’t demand your full attention, the songs can be properly appreciated. A lot of gamers have discovered new artists this way.

Competitive Play Requires Personal Preference

Music is a personal choice when it comes to competitive gaming. Some players need complete silence for ranked matches, while others can’t focus without their pump-up playlist

You should test different approaches during your practice sessions. Familiar songs can help you focus since your brain doesn’t need to process anything new. Instead, a familiar playlist is comforting and can help keep you calm.

Whatever the choice, experimenting with new music during important matches should be avoided. Rather, save music exploration for casual sessions.

Don’t Forget About Volume and Breaks

If the volume balance is off, even the perfect playlist can interfere with a gaming session. The game’s audio should still be clear enough for you to hear cues that guide play. Your playlist should just be background filler.

It’s also important to take regular breaks from constant audio. After a few hours of gaming with music, the ears need to rest. Taking a ten-minute break from the music every couple of hours can actually help keep your focus strong while also protecting your hearing.

Finding the Perfect Gaming Soundtrack

Honestly, there’s no one music style that’s the “best” for gaming. Something that works for you may not work for your friend, and that’s fine. It should be a personal choice. Start by creating simple playlists for your favorite game genres, and then adjust based on what feels natural. Also, pay attention to how the music affects your performance and mood. Music should keep your gaming sessions comfortable and focused.
