James Tonic Releases Bold and Soulful New Album ‘Safety’

0

James Tonic has released his new album, ‘Safety’, which marks his most personal and confident work to date. Available now, the record is a bold and soulful blending of gritty storytelling, coastal nostalgia, and a warm sense of intimacy that feels both raw and inviting. Following last year’s successful run with Stuck in LA and its West Coast tour, this project opens a broader series of music that will continue into early 2026.

‘Safety’ ventures into a compelling range of territories, blending shadowy tales and upbeat moments through live drums, analog synths, and unhurried performances. The result is a warm, organic human touch seldom found in today’s sound. James Tonic drew from R&B, hip-hop, and pop foundations before leaning into rock-tinged compositions with band instrumentation. His songs offer reflective entertainment laced with real life, ensuring the album holds a distinct and compelling place in the current musical landscape.

The album draws the listener close with tracks that drift, synths that fold in layers, and beats that simmer low. Each track meticulously adds a new shade to the record’s atmosphere, building toward a cohesive and emotionally layered whole. By its final song, ‘Safety’ stands as a fully realized chapter in James Tonic’s evolving sound, laying the groundwork for further music and narratives in the near future.

Peter Hook & The Light Announce 50th Anniversary Show Marking Sex Pistols’ Legendary Manchester Gig

0

On 4 June 1976 Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto brought the Sex Pistols to Manchester for the first time for a legendary performance at the Lesser Free Trade Hall. The gig attracted a modest crowd of around 40 people but amongst them were a disproportionate number of figures who would become legends of the Manchester music scene: future members of The Smiths and The Fall, Factory Records’ Tony Wilson, punk poet John Cooper Clarke, producer Martin Hannett and, somewhere amongst the crowd, a young Peter Hook with his friend and future Joy Division bandmate Bernard Sumner.

Energised by the ramshackle performance, Peter Hook bought a bass guitar the very next day and went on to play in some the most influential and iconic bands in British history, pioneering the dawn of post punk with Joy Division before moving onto the synth driven soundscapes of New Order. Five decades on, Hooky will celebrate the anniversary of that pivotal night with a show in the city that shaped him.

On 4 June 2026, fifty years to the day since the Sex Pistols changed the Manchester music scene forever, Peter Hook & The Light will perform a retrospective set at the Academy spanning his lengthy career. With songs from Warsaw, Joy Division, New Order, Revenge, Monaco and Freebass, it’s destined to be a night not to missed by fans of his widely influential career.

Peter Hook & The Light will be joined by very special guests Buzzcocks who, since that night fifty years ago, have carved out their own unique place in British music history with songs such as Harmony In My HeadWhat Do I Get? and Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve) and in the process will be celebrating their own 50th anniversary.

The Manchester date in June will be the only PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT headline UK date in 2026.

Pre-sale tickets will be available at 10:00am on WEDNESDAY 3 DECEMBER here

General sale tickets will be available at 10:00am on FRIDAY 5 DECEMBER here

The announcement follows the recent Get Ready UK tour, which saw Peter Hook & The Light perform the seventh New Order album in its entirety before a second set of seminal tracks from the catalogues of both Joy Division and New Order.

Peter Hook first revisited the seminal Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures back in May 2010 for a commemorative charity concert and has followed it each year by performing subsequent albums from the repertoires of Joy Division and New Order. His dedication to his back catalogue has now seen him move through Unknown Pleasures, CloserStillMovementPower Corruption & LiesLow LifeBrotherhoodTechnique, Republic and Substance to arrive at the Get Ready album this year. Having toured the albums extensively, the band have now amassed approaching 1000 concerts. Among the many highlights since Peter Hook reintroduced his early repertoire to a legion of audiences across the world, both new and old, have been appearances at Benicassim, Primavera Sound, Kendal Calling, Bestival, Victorious and Rebellion, alongside extensive touring in Europe, North and South America, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand to great acclaim from both fans and critics alike

Rafael Anton Irisarri Unveils New Album ‘Points of Inaccessibility’

0

Enigmatic musician Rafael Anton Irisarri has announced his compelling new album, ‘Points of Inaccessibility’, scheduled to land on February 6th via Black Knoll Editions on BioVinyl. The record was developed during an intense residency inside the former Pieter Baan Centre in Utrecht, a site once used as a psychiatric prison that still carries heavy acoustic traces of its past. Irisarri worked in this unique, stark space while Dutch artist Jaco Schilp developed accompanying point cloud visuals for an audio visual performance, with the music later meticulously reconstructed and produced in Irisarri’s New York studio.

Irisarri spoke thoughtfully about the project’s central theme, stating: “’Points of Inaccessibility’ came from thinking about how disconnection feels in an age obsessed with connection. We are constantly online, constantly visible, yet we drift further apart. The real distance isn’t geographic anymore, it’s emotional.” He also reflected on the profound effect of the building itself, noting: “Inside that old psychiatric prison in Utrecht, the air felt heavy with the residue of other lives. The sound carried traces of silence, as if the walls remembered things that had been forgotten. It made me aware that every frequency holds a ghost.”

The record promises a deeply introspective journey, leveraging the unusual acoustic character of the former prison to explore themes of emotional isolation in the hyper-connected world. ‘Points of Inaccessibility’ arrives just ahead of several major 2026 live dates across Europe, including shows in Spain, Greece, and the UK, with two performances featuring Abul Mogard.

Peaches Announces New Album ‘No Lube So Rude’ and Unleashes Single “F**k Your Face”

0

Iconic musician, producer, director, and performance artist, Peaches has announced her first album in 10+ years, No Lube So Rude, will be released on February 20, 2026. The album marks her signing and first release on the storied independent label Kill Rock Stars. Alongside the announcement, she also releases the album’s titillating second single ‘Fuck Your Face’ and announces 2026 UK/EU tour dates to join the previously announced 27-date North American No Lube So Rude Tour run.

A brash, unapologetic blend of electronic, dance, punk, industrial, and pop music, the 11 new songs on No Lube So Rude exist at the intersection of the personal and the political, where the body serves not only as a sexual and spiritual vessel, but also as the front line in a battle for basic human rights. Peaches’ lyrics are bawdy and explicit here, laced with biting sarcasm and clever wordplay, but they’re also surprisingly vulnerable, offering up a candid look in the mirror from a post-menopausal queer icon reckoning with a society that’s come to expect silence, if not outright erasure. The result, recorded with producer The Squirt Deluxe in Berlin, is a deliberately provocative exploration of identity, sexuality, and bodily autonomy from a feminist trailblazer, a singular work of emotional and sonic alchemy that balances the poetic and the profane in equal measure as it transforms all the friction and frustration of modern life into joy and transcendence.

New single ‘Fuck Your Face’ is a chanting, pulsating banger of pleasure seeking. The song follows the recent release of ‘Not In Your Mouth None of Your Business’- an “energizing rallying chant for bodily autonomy in the form of a pounding punk dance anthem” (Stereogum), which received a floor-burner remix from Boys Noize.

Peaches has expanded her 2026 headlining tour dates to include the UK and Europe in April. These will follow the February/March North American dates from the artist whom The Guardian praises for her “bravura” live performances, calling them “a masterclass in gleeful subversion.”UK/EU tickets on sale Friday, December 5 at 10AM (local); check local venue for pre-sale information.

Spotify Wrapped 2025: Canadian Listening Habits and Global Trends Revealed

0

Spotify has released Canada’s most-played artists, songs, and albums for 2025 as part of its annual Wrapped campaign, offering a comprehensive look at the audio that defined the year. Toronto’s own Drake once again topped the list of the most-streamed artists in Canada, followed by Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd, and Kendrick Lamar. This Canadian dominance extends globally, where The Weeknd and Drake took the third and fourth spots, respectively, behind the number-one ranked Global Top Artist, Bad Bunny, who held the title for the fourth time.

The most-streamed song in Canada for 2025 was “Ordinary” by American singer-songwriter Alex Warren, while the top-streamed album was I’m The Problem by American country music star Morgan Wallen. Significantly, Spotify observed a major surge of interest in Francophone music, noting a twenty percent listening increase in Quebec and an eleven percent jump across Canada. Pop songstress Charlotte Cardin’s “Feel Good” was the top French-Canadian song, and rock band Les Cowboys Fringants claimed the top Francophone artist spot, solidifying a powerful regional audio movement

  1. The continued dominance of Toronto artists Drake and The Weeknd, who rank in the top five both in Canada and globally, demonstrates that Canadian talent remains an unparalleled cultural export. This indicates a consistent local pride and global appeal that anchors Canada’s pop and rap consumption, even amid a surge of international competition.
  2. The top lists show a high degree of genre mixing, particularly the simultaneous popularity of American Country (Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem as the top album), mainstream Pop (Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga), and the increasing influence of screen-based media (the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack). This suggests the Canadian audience is highly eclectic, with its tastes increasingly driven by viral moments and international media rather than rigid genre loyalty.
  3. The dramatic surge in Francophone music consumption—a twenty percent increase in Quebec and eleven percent nationally—signals a significant cultural revitalization and growing digital presence for French-Canadian artists. This trend highlights the successful integration of regional language music onto the global streaming platform and reinforces the strong cultural identity and growing market share of Quebecois music within the Canadian landscape.

Liverpool’s Sound City 2026 Drops First Wave Lineup Featuring Westside Cowboy, Brooke Combe, and Teenage Joans

0

Liverpool’s multi-venue festival of talent discovery, Sound City 2026, has announced its first wave of artists, bringing together indie’s rising stars, punk upstarts, and new pop sensations. Following the rapid sell-out of early bird tickets for the three-day event, Sound City, which opens with the Sound City+ Conference on Friday, May 1, and continues with two days of live music, is demonstrating that its keen talent scouting is sharper than ever. The festival is already welcoming back two previous small-stage artists as headliners this year: Keo and Jalen Ngonda will both perform at the ornate, 3,500-capacity St George’s Hall, setting a high standard for the emerging acts on the bill. This first wave announcement is packed with genre-defying prospects and future figureheads. Bouncing into national recognition after their debut ‘This Better Be Something Great EP’, Manchester four-piece Westside Cowboy leads the charge, heading into 2026 as folkish, infectious indie figureheads. They are joined by Australian powerhouse duo Teenage Joans—Tahlia Borg and Cahli Blakers—who make a stop in Liverpool for the first time during their debut UK tour, promising songs from their album ‘The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest’. Adding fuel to the rock and roll fire, sibling mod duo The Molotovs will arrive for the weekend following the release of their debut album, ‘Wasted On Youth’, in January. The lineup also features buzzed-about London acts Saint Clair and ashnymph, along with Brighton’s complex math-rock risers, SLAG, making for a truly intriguing alternative music compendium.

Sophisticated nu-soul stalwart Brooke Combe returns to Sound City 2026 having previously taken her songbook to overlooked UK towns on the Sound City Tour. She will be joined by similarly exciting and emotive solo artists like Liverpool’s soul-inspired MT Jones and prodigious multi-instrumentalist songwriter Blossom Caldarone. Tik-Tok-borne sensations are also highly represented, with Lincolnshire’s Cherryholt making their debut and guaranteed to draw a huge crowd after their song “Irresistible” caught fire online. The festival also welcomes back hometown heroes Keyside, along with Wigan’s The Lilacs, who bring loud, sing-along crowd-favorites. Sound City’s Managing Director, Becky Ayres, is thrilled, saying: “Sound City has always been about discovering tomorrow’s superstars today: giving artists the platform to grow, connect with audiences, and take their first steps toward global success. This first wave gives a glimpse of the unforgettable experiences waiting for audiences in the world capital of music, Liverpool, in 2026.”
