French Singer-Songwriter Aurel Shares Intimate New Single “Almasty” From Debut Album ‘Tant Qu’on Aura Pied’

Aurel has released “Almasty,” a deeply intimate reflection on friendship, loss, and the invisible threads connecting us to those who have departed, out now via Vérité, the new Capitane Coop label dedicated to contemporary pop and chanson. The single offers the first glimpse into his highly anticipated debut album ‘Tant Qu’on Aura Pied,’ arriving spring 2026. Born from profound grief in winter 2024, “Almasty” finds Aurel alone at his piano transforming pain into luminous melody, taking its name from the Almasty, a mythical Caucasian recluse serving as a metaphor for isolation and the sustaining power of human connection.

Following the loss of a close friend, Aurel crafted “Almasty” as a fragile yet hopeful meditation on memory and renewal, evoking the quiet resilience that accompanies grief as he wonders what kind of man he would have been without his friends and loved ones keeping him from becoming a recluse hidden away from the world. Produced and mixed by Nicolas Michaux, “Almasty” signals a creative rebirth for Aurel after two acclaimed EPs, ‘Ah ouais’ and ‘Saison Mandarines,’ and live performances alongside Pomme, Voyou, Feu! Chatterton, and Zaho de Sagazan. Post-Hardcore Outfit Excide Unleashes “Call Box” From New Album ‘Bastard Hymns’

Excide has released “Call Box,” the latest single from their second album ‘Bastard Hymns,’ out now via SharpTone Records. Tyler Washington, Gill Gonzalez, Gage Lanza, Caleb Hogue, and Jacob Paris crafted the track as the “click” moment for the record, with Washington explaining it most coherently synthesized every component of their desired outcome and became the stencil they worked backwards from during pre-production. The song features Cast Iron Hike grooves in the verses, a fuzzy Queens of the Stone Age bridge, and a massive ending nodding to Failure, representing Excide at its purest and best form to date as Washington’s personal declaration of gratitude and defiance to his influences.

‘Bastard Hymns’ marks the logical next step from the band’s debut ‘Deliberate Revolver,’ created without guidelines or barriers after accomplishing what they set out to do on the first record. Sonically inspired by late ’90s post-hardcore bands like Cast Iron Hike and Snapcase while siphoning melody and textural elements from Quicksand and Cave In, the band shifted gears to take influence from Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, and Failure, pushing the sonic needle into uncharted territory with Austin Coupe’s co-writing and production. The result is a fuzzy, rocky, groovy, angry record seeped in the woes of growing up in a hillbilly hellscape and living to tell the tale. Since their 2020 debut and 2022’s ‘Deliberate Revolver,’ which caught the attention of Brooklyn Vegan and Revolver, Excide signed with SharpTone Records and released the 2024 two-pack Humdinger, with Stereogum raving both tracks “go hard” and NO ECHO marveling at the band’s dynamic blend of ’90s-flavored hardcore and propulsive post-hardcore rhythms.

Peaches returns with the electrifying protest anthem “Not In Your Mouth None Of Your Business,” a pulsing punk dance anthem recorded with producer The Squirt Deluxe in Berlin that serves as an energizing rallying chant for bodily autonomy. The iconic musician, producer, director, and performance artist has announced her No Lube So Rude 2026 tour, kicking off February 20 in Miami for 27 North American dates with support from Model/Actriz, Cortisa Star, and more to be announced. The Guardian has praised her “bravura” live performances as “a masterclass in gleeful subversion,” and this tour promises to deliver exactly that intensity and fearless artistic vision.

Peaches has partnered with PLUS1 so that one dollar from every ticket sold supports the Trans Justice Funding Project and their work funding trans-led grassroots organizations in the US and US Territories. VIP presale begins October 15 with general on-sale October 17. The single marks the first taste of her first album in over 10 years, ‘No Lube So Rude,’ set for release in 2026. Peaches explains that when the world is friction, lube becomes a necessity, turning that friction into pleasure, power, and pride, and she wants people to understand they can still have a voice no matter who they are or what the world says about them.

Scholar Emília Barna Examines Music Labor And Global Capitalism In ‘Working In Music On The Semiperiphery’

Emília Barna’s ‘Working in Music on the Semiperiphery: Local Cultural Production and Global Capitalism’ explores how informality permeates power relations and resource allocation in the music sector, proving that creative labor operates far differently than traditional capitalist models suggest. Drawing from field data collected in Hungary between 2018 and 2021, Barna examines the significant level of informal household involvement in creative and reproductive processes, revealing how home-based work and paid work remain unbalanced in semiperipheral contexts. The study covers the widest possible range of music workers across all genres from high art to commercial, observing various workers in the production chain beyond musicians and giving special treatment to niche segments like YouTube-based commercial hip hop.

Barna’s research employs multiple empirical methods to examine trends pushing workers toward digital entrepreneurship and platform work on one side and live performance on the other, while the semiperipheral context reveals considerable state involvement through subsidies and the crucial role of gatekeepers’ political capital. The focus on domestic work and informality provides a feminist analysis that illuminates gendered divisions of labor and forms of self-exploitation that typically remain invisible in discussions of creative work. The book proposes a new model of cultural autonomy accounting for the semiperipheral relationship between music industry workers, institutions, the market, and the state, offering essential insights into how global capitalism shapes local cultural production.
